Do you let people know?
Do you openly let people know about activities you do/things you like that are generally viewed as "Lame", "Embarrasing", or "Childish". Pokemon would be one example of this, in most cases but there are many others. So, do accept yourself enough to boldly declare what you like, although you may get ridiculed for it, or do you hide it, in an attempt to keep social status, etc.

I have no problem with people knowing about all the things that I do.
I have never been one to care what people think about me, all that matters to me is that I'm comfortable with myself. My close friends and girlfriend know me and whether they agree with what I do or not, they still love me regardless. So it doesn't matter in the end really. |
Yeah.. I let anyone know ._. It's not a big deal. They should be mature enough to accept it.. and if not then I really don't give a turd on what they think is "cool" or not.

I have a few friends that are really chill about stuff like pokemon. Whenever I'm hanging with them we'll either be chilling walking around the city or playing rock band talking about ds games and whatever, one of them has an acekart and her boyfriend is the other friend who's chill about this stuff and he hacked his wii so we play A LOT of games.
Apart from them I wouldn't tell anybody about the nerdy or geeky things I do. |
I have no problem whatsoever :).
People should respect you for what you are. In the past, I have tried to be different to impress people, but at the end a tiny mistake can ruin everything. So hide yourself? Love yourself the most and you wont regret :). |
When it comes up in conversation, yes. I don't go around screaming all of my weird obsessions to anyone who will listen, but I'm not afraid of telling people what I like when it's relevant. It's not that I'm afraid of getting outcast or anything; I just don't want to bring up my hobbies and interests when they're not terribly relevant.
I always seem to go "don't judge me" when I mention Pokemon, though... o__O |
Whenever I feel like it, I openly admit that I still like Pokemon. And there are people who still support my decision, like my mom.
|
i don't have a problem letting people know i partake in childish hobbies. if they accept that part of me, great. if they're uncomfortable with it, also great, because that's amusing to me.
|
Yeah, I don't hide anything. Most of the time the people I socialise with appreciate the same sort of things as me anyway, like nerding out over films, video games and music, watching anime, being a shut-in loser, etc.
I would never even speak to the sort of people that would seriously mock me for such things. I haven't been ridiculed for something silly like that since I was about 13. In fact most of my friends would probably only ridicule me if I was more "normal." They joke about me listening to hip-hop, but it's not serious. |
I do. I don't necessarily care if they don't like it or not. People think I'm crazy for being in band, but they don't realize how far it can go. I also get dogged for playing certain games, such as pokemon. I won $20 dollars at a local tournament recently for winning it, bam, how lame is it now?
|
I used to feel rather embarrassed about what the things I liked in the past, but being in college has done a lot to open me up about my interests. I guess it helps that my very first class was a computer science course and that was brimming with people that were open about their tastes...of course, even among them, I was still the oddball. But, hey, it's not detrimental to my life, makes me happy, so why shouldn't I openly enjoy this stuff? I don't exactly flaunt it (unless you count a Lucario keychain as flaunting), so people don't mind it and I feel totally comfortable with my nerdy interests.
|
I don't let anybody know of what I do... at all >__>
My parents are pretty frustrated wondering what the hell I do sitting in front of my computer the whole freaking day. Well, I don't think it's worth telling them 50% of my computer time goes to a Pokemon Forum. >__> |
When we're in a convo and it comes up, yes. But other than that not really, since I have no point in telling someone.
|
I tell people the stuff like that, I could really care less what they thought.
|
depends on the situation... There are things I wouldn't share here in pokecommunity, but there are things, like pokemon, that I wouldn't share elsewhere.
|
Of course. There's not much you can be into that's unheard of as long as you know where to find the right crowd. So yeah, I wear my interests on my sleeves and I never get flack for it.
As for Pokemon, it's actually not weird at all to be into around here (NY). Statistically it's more popular than it ever was, especially among college students. Seriously, have you been inside a Hot Topic recently? |
When it becomes a topic in the conversation, yes. Otherwise, no. I wouldn't talk about Pokémon if my co-leagues are talking about...pizza. xD
|
If they don't like what I do, then they can suck it. Not like I care what they think.

I'll mention it if it comes up in conversation, but I'm not going to bring it up randomly. It's not something I feel I need to hide; nor is it something I need to really brag about, either.
