(un)Official Steam Thread

I think we're a bit overdue for a Steam general thread.

PC Steam Members:
Spoiler:

What is Steam?:
Seriously dude, you don't know what Steam is? Steam has made a major impact in the gaming community today, providing a huge community of gamers with a client used to both connect and play together with other gamers. Created by Vault, the makers of games such as Portal.

The biggest perk to Steam is their huge store of instant game downloads, which is updated regularly with a lot of games. They receive a lot of praise for their good deals and weekly discounts.

Basically, lets discuss and share all things Steam in here!
  • Share id's
  • Talk about deals
  • Talk about wish lists
  • Achievements
  • Groups
  • What you hope they release
  • etc...

I HIGHLY recommended Steam to anyone who regularly plays PC games.

I've gotten BioShock for $5, Portal for free, and tons of underground games that cost around $5-20 but are better than most $60 games.

Steam ID is right under my user stats, top right hand corner of my post-box. Add me if you want, but know that I don't currently play any multiplayer games.

Purple Materia December 5th, 2010 6:54 AM

I only really use Steam for Valve games and games that support it. Otherwise I use Raptr. But I do like the Steam marketplace. The deals are incredible. I almost got The Orange Box for $7 buuuuuut I couldn't load money on my reloadable credit card in time. :P

My Steam username is SatsohiRaian.

We already have a Steam group in case you weren't aware of it.

Yes, and there are Ke$ha and Lady Gaga groups as well, but you don't see that stopping anybody from making threads related in the Entertainment section either. Nobody uses that dried up old feature anyhow, so playing moderator in my thread won't be necessary. Thanks.

Added you guys in the steam ID list. :D
I noticed that added Knights of the Old Republic to their game library, which sold me on Steam. I hope they add the second one soon.

I also hope they add the original Fable sometime soon. I would love to play that again.

Avatar December 6th, 2010 1:18 AM

Ke$ha and Lady GaGa have nothing to do with video games and Steam so your point is moot. Nowhere in my post did I 'play moderator', I simply pointed out that a Steam group for PC exists; please stop acting like a smartass.

Just because you don't use the group feature on the SteamCommunity site doesn't mean everyone else who has a Steam account don't either.
You've only been a Steam user for 4 days. I don't expect you to understand fully how the service works.

Hey, we all know you're all super excited that you finally discovered Steam (despite being a self-described "video game enthusiast"), but that gives you no excuse to be an ass. Heck, you even wrote

so this clearly demonstrates how much you know.

Avatar was just pointing out that PC users are quite aware of the service, having used it for quite some time, and was notifying you that we have an official PC group. The Steam groups feature is much more efficient at keeping us all together than some silly member list in a spoiler. It's a good idea to join the group and watch this forum for gaming event announcements.

No one uses the groups feature? Why then did you list in in your original post? Why is it that every event PC has we use the feature? Why are you yourself a member of at least one group if "no one uses that dried up old feature"?

I actually don't understand how you mistook the intention of his post so badly. Why are you so defensive?

Wait, did you not even click the link and mistake the group he was talking about for one of the PC groups? Oh boy!

Cello December 7th, 2010 6:27 AM

Wow, way to kill a perfectly fine thread you guys. Stupendous work, really.

@Amachi
Wow, I spelled Valve as Vault by mistake because I was playing Borderlands earlier and had Vault on the mind. I clearly don't know my video games.
I posted this thread because I wanted it to be openly discussed amongst the members of the video gaming section. Not everyone uses that little group section.

Of course, god forbid I piss off the forum mini-modders by posting a perfectly legal thread.

Now please, enough of your nonsense. Back to the thread.
Though I doubt anybodies really going to partake in this thread now. Guess we should start checking the group section before posting threads hurpaderp.

Yuoaman December 7th, 2010 2:27 PM

I think you misunderstood the meaning of 'group'. Avatar was not referring to a social group on PC, he was referring to an actual group on Steam, not one on the forum.

If you had clicked the link you would have seen that. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/pokecommunity.

Poeman December 7th, 2010 4:25 PM

Do you mean Fallout or Volt?

Go away troll!

Let's keep this respectful and on-topic, please.

A Steam thread is fine. Mini-moderating and disrespect isn't. In the future, if you feel moderation is necessary, use the report feature. If you want to discuss something off-topic with a user (respectfully), use the PM feature.

As for the topic itself...
My username is twocows, if you want to add me. It's linked in every post in the upper right. I play TF2, L4D1, and L4D2 mostly. KotOR is a great game, but I doubt they'll bring the second one since it's only really playable with TSLRCM.

TheAppleFreak December 10th, 2010 2:50 PM

Ohey it's a Steam thread. I'mma go post in it.

Well, I mainly play TF2 now, though if I just so happen to suck majorly in a game and can't get better (or my computer's abysmally low framerate drops to unplayable levels), I will play Portal: Prelude or Portal: the Flash Version mappack. They're fun.

Purple Materia December 10th, 2010 3:34 PM

Bought Source for $5. :D

Thank god for Steam.
