The Past, Time, And Perspective

"In any case, [it has] long ceased to be a painful memory and became merely a distasteful one." -1984 by George Orwell

How many of you feel like you can relate to this?

And IF you feel like sharing, in what way do you relate to this? (What experience has lead you to believe this/ How does this ring true to you? And did you overcome it?) I understand this can be a very personal question that might relate to death or hardships (like bullying,) but I feel that sharing might help give insight to others suffering with the same thing, and in turn, help them too.

Or do you not agree with this and think that some certain memories will always be painful?
Can time really heal everything?

Well...it depends.

Let's say that someone gets picked on. Years later, they might think it wasn't so bad...

But compare that to someone who was put in a mental hospital. They'll probably never forget their experience.

So, I believe time can heal some things, but not all. Not by the least.

I'm not so sure time can heal every wound. Over time, things do fade, but deep down the pain is still there, especially if you've experienced a great deal of pain or hardship in your life. The quote is pretty true.

Time "heals" all things in one way or another. We all die eventually, after all.

But yeah, I have a few things like that. Back in late 2008, my ex broke up with me the day after Christmas (and yes, I'd gotten her a gift). That was rough and it really hurt at the time, and it hurt all over again when my friend told me she was slandering me over a year after the fact (that was about six months ago that I learned that). Distasteful would certainly be the way I would describe it now.

My dog dying last week is starting to become like that. It's not painful anymore so much as just... upsetting.

I'm sure for a lot of people this rings true. Not so much for me.

I have this really bad habit of digging around my past. And most of the most prominent pieces of my past are... the bad things. (Like say, being pushed to the brink of suicide due to a combination of feelings of loneliness, and betrayal, not to mention mass ostracism after the fact of betrayal back in 7th grade... I could go into further detail if I must...)

Those things crippled me, and time, I will admit, did do a good job of healing them... But there's always some idiotic thought that returns these "wounds" on my psyche to bleeding...

So, maybe it is true. Time does heal. But some people (me especially) acquire a bad habit of being counter productive and bringing the pain back full force.

Also, and this is 99% just me I'm sure... but the quote seems more to me like becoming numb to the pain rather than healing from it.
