Toshiba laptop connection Troubles??

Ok I have a toshiba tecra laptop, I have used it my self for the last year and a half no troubles at all, I connect to the net with a cradlepoint router, I put it on stand by 3 days ago and gave it to my daughter when she got home that night as an early christmas gift, she took it to her room, she had it in there for about 15 minutes, the security was deleted, I had comodo on it, she could not connect at all, I went in to see what was wrong, I went into the control panel, network connections, there was nothing there, no idea why, there were at least 5 before, only 2 were used, but went into setup a new one, it told me to use the set up wizard, clicked on it and it would not come up, what has happened??
I did see a box at one time to enable the wireless, but since it was never unabled, I have no idea?? I have done the Fn + F8 and no help there either, thanks in advance!!

Ok, from what I gathered via google search, there is a little switch on the very front of the laptop, right below where the trackpad is. make sure that it is switched to the ON position and see if that helps.

So when you go to network connections, there's nothing at all? When my wireless internet goes out, I still have my connections showing, but just have little red X's underneath the name of the connections. If yours is just plain blank, you'll have to try setting up the network again. To do that, you'll need to enable the wireless on the laptop and the wizard *should* help you set a new one up. If your wizard will not work try restarting both the computer and your wireless router. If it still will not work, go to google and type in the name of your laptop and 'connection wizard error' or something along those lines.

Also, I'm using Windows XP, and I have a button in my network connections called the Network Troubleshooter, which will help you. (Apologies if you've already done this). If you've got Vista, I'm sure they have something similar somewhere.

I'm not 100% about this, but if you did a factory restore on the laptop before giving it to your daughter, I think that would have wiped any previous network connections that were stored on the machine, which means you'd have to go through setting up the connections all over again.

Yes it has that switch and it is on, I did not do a factory restore before I gave it to her because I still had programs on it that I needed to get off of it, there is nothing in the connections at all, that is what I found really weird myself because even if it's not connected there was always connections in there, and as for the wizard it will not even open for me to try to get a new connection in there?? I appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Plug the computer directly in to the router with an ethernet chord and check Windows Update for any pending downloads/installs. I'm not convinced this will actually fix anything, but it's worth trying...Windows is fairly good at sorting out driver issues (assuming you received a "bad" update).

I'll keep checking back to try something else if that doesn't work.

Never thought of trying that, I'll let you know!!
