Question in The Crucible
In The Crucible, Abagail Williams serves as a servant for John Proctor's family. Does she get paid for it? Was it a common thing for girls to do during those times?
|
OH I read this book last year, if my memory is correct it was common for 13+ year old girls to work as a servants doing household work. Yes, I believe she was paid. Also, her room and rent were paid for; but she gets fired for sleeping with john. :<

In the Puritan society, it was much less frequent, but still present. But, yeah, like Mary and Mercy, domestic servants were common. |
