MMOs feel more like work to me rather than a game. I tried WoW and it seemed like it was mostly "go kill 50 goblins" or "go collect 15 piles of bat dung", which I hate in games anyway...so why would I want to pay $15 a month to do that for hours a day?

Luck January 8th, 2011 12:43 AM

so if they werent guild quests(or whatever theyre called) and were actually part of the main storyline, would you not mind as much? jw

^ this.

A lot of my friends seem to be getting into MMOs, one or two of them seem to fall off the face of social earth because they seemed to get so hooked on them. I never really saw the appeal either, but I just worry about them letting the game get a hold of their lives.

But it's really their decision, and a habit they really ought to get out of if they are really just letting the game control their everyday life.

Margot January 8th, 2011 12:51 AM

See, I would never pay money to do it either, and my friends complain about it ALL the time because they have to budget for school and stuff. And I also don't like how it gets so prioritized over most things, it's always: school, work, and then MMO game, and maybe if i'm lucky I get to see them :/

like I get games are a ton of fun, but not when they're all you do.

Signomi January 8th, 2011 1:20 AM

It's especially bad when people like that want to fork over money for MMOs. I know a few people who practically live off their parents to pay for little trinkets they can get in the games and then they'd play them even longer.

Actually, it was only the other night that one of them told me they had stayed up about 4 nights in the row just playing their MMO...then went ahead and nagged about how their parents is getting on their case.

Any concerned parent would do that, I would as well if I saw my child spend long hours on a strenuous game...tiring their eyes, making themselves mentally tired, not getting the exercise that they need...

Even spending quite a bit of hard earned money fuelling their child's addiction needs.

@ kyoko: Starcraft isn't an mmo. It's just a really addicting RTS that's great to play with friends. Its one of the best social PC games of all time, in addition to being a good game on its own. But my firends are all gamers so playing games is our way of socializing. None of us play any mmos, though.

angel January 8th, 2011 1:52 AM

I've tried WoW before and I was bored after a couple minutes.. I don't get why people get addicted to them. And its not right for parents to have to pay the money for their kids to play MMOs. If they want to play them so bad they need to get off their butts and get jobs (Yes, I know its easier said then done but there is always mowing grass, triming bushes, racking leaves, ect.). So they can play for it themselves.

I play Farmville on rare occasions but I don't think that's a MMO.

Hassan_Abdillah January 8th, 2011 2:05 AM

Negative ppl :/ There are MMOs out there which are entertaining and free of cost.

While I do grant theres this addictive trait to MMO's, you can keep it from becoming that way provided you are mature enough.

Shiny January 8th, 2011 2:38 AM

I've been playing WoW for 4 years now, and at the moment, I'm not playing it but I can say it's really fun. Like I get that you have to pay for it and such, but in my opinion, it's worth it.

Ninja Caterpie January 8th, 2011 2:46 AM

If you're getting addicted to an MMO (or any game for that matter) to the point that your social life goes into decline, well, to put it bluntly, you're doing it wrong.

Happy Azumarill January 8th, 2011 3:40 AM

i played WOW for about 3 hours and i got hooked, i don't have it on my computer witch sucks :( but i'll get it in a coupla of weeks

Captain Fabio January 8th, 2011 7:26 AM

I can't stand WoW.
I never got hooked on it even though I played it to see what all the fuss was about but no joy.

I guess it is like marmite for people, you either love it or hate it.

インフェルノの津波 January 8th, 2011 7:42 AM

I must say, D. Gray-man sure is interesting.

Captain Fabio January 8th, 2011 7:45 AM

Why is D. Gray-Man interesting?

A Pixy January 8th, 2011 8:01 AM

I would also like to know of D.Grey-man's interestingness.

Captain Fabio January 8th, 2011 8:21 AM

Isn't it horrible how we are left with a cliff hanger, this could make or break my day!

Cosign on this. The only MMO I'm "playing", and rather sporadically at that, is Lord of the Rings Online. It's F2P. The graphics are gorgeous and the story is really interesting. I love the world of LOTR so that is an added bonus to me over these sort of heartless F2Ps that flood the market.

For me an MMO has to engage me and let me "escape" into it for it to be worthwhile. With the lore and playerbase of LOTRO I'm OK grinding out the "Please snag ten of these" and "Kill twelve of those" quests. It's a chore, sure, but being in that world makes it alright for me. I'd rather drudge away in Middle Earth than be bored in our world :P.

インフェルノの津波 January 8th, 2011 9:21 AM

D.Grey-man resembles one of my most beloved manga: Fullmetal Alchemist. The main characters are almost identical (except Ed is shorter, Walker is more light-hearted and not as dark as Ed). The Homunculus and Noah's family are identical as well, except Noah's family is more prideful and stuff.

But really D.Grey-man is just really cool on how it deals with fights, it's much like...One Piece in a way, both try not to make all of their characters not to overpowered. But D.Grey-man makes Exorcists have a hard time all the time, like they got their asses kicked in like the 10th chapter.

Also the humor resembles FMA a lot.

So that's why I find it interesting.

I hate WoW for life. The reason why I broke up with my previous boyfriend was because he cares so much about WoW than myself. This proves that it can be so addictive.

Starcraft, however, is something I would love to try out... but I need a better computer though.

AshPikastar January 8th, 2011 10:06 AM

I never played WoW before but it we had to play it for a project but I never got the chance to do it. I don't usually play games for the PC like WoW.

Just be careful not to get addicted like they do over in South Korea. There are people who seriously make a living off of playing the original Starcraft over there.

You could probably easily find the original and play it, since the original doesn't need nearly as nice of a computer as Starcraft 2 does, as it was released in... 1997, I think.

otakulily January 8th, 2011 1:08 PM

I think they're both kind of blah. I'm more of a Civ person myself but I'm not really into PC games anyway.

A Pixy January 8th, 2011 1:11 PM

The only sim games I've played have been Sim City 4, Sim City 2000 and Roller Coaster Tycoon. :U

Captain Fabio January 8th, 2011 3:06 PM

I haven't gotten into minecraft at all.
I guess I don't have the time for things like that anymore.
