Can staff see 'invisible' members?

Title is the question.

Tyrantrum December 25th, 2010 12:40 PM

I'm pretty sure I've heard this before, but yes, I'm fairly sure staff can see members on invisible mode.

Captain Fabio December 25th, 2010 12:44 PM

Yes, thy can. Would be pretty silly if the mode made you invisible to the whole forum including staff members. =]

Nice formatting there Fabio lmao.

Anyway, yes, we as staff from moderators upwards, have the ability to see who is appearing offline, as I can see you now Cassino. We merely see you as "invisible", and this is exclusive to staff.

But what about privacy? If a user, for example, asks you to tell them if an invisibble member is online at that time or not, are you allowed to tell them?

The 100 Mega Shock December 25th, 2010 2:10 PM

I'd imagine the response would be that it's none of their business.

Well, I guess it would depend on the user who is invisible.
To begin with, if the user is invisible, he doesn't want to be seen as online by the other members, so then I guess that would answer your question.

We're allowed to tell them, but it doesn't mean we will. Most staff members respect the privacy of others. The only reason I would think a staff member tells someone if an invisible user is online is if the member is friends with the invisible user or something.

Cherrim December 30th, 2010 7:29 PM

There's no rule about telling people if someone's online or not but generally it's accepted that we don't because it's rude and it's a breech of privacy. :/

Operative word: most.

Do you have a sort of 'staff code of conduct'? I've long been left to wonder given how everyone apparently deals with things their own ways.

Staff do have the regular rules as well as their own rules to go by, don't they?

I mean, it would make sense.

Correct. And to state again:

We obviously respect member's wishes to remain invisible. It's not like we're running around the forums telling people who's online and who's not. That would just be silly.

This is a peculiar case, everyone. I think I'm satisfied by your answers so far, let's not penetrate it any more.
