Are you happy with the new battle styles/systems?

Just what the title says, are you a fan of the new triple battles, do you like being able to see a full few of your Pokemon, maybe you think the new attacks look cool and the moving camera is fresh? What do you like/dislike about the battles?

Personally I think triple battles will be interesting, I don't really like the fully animated backsprites though :/ Sure, its cool that the Pokemon moves, but I feel that it looks too pixelated. At least with the backsrpites of previous games your Pokemon didn't totally look like it was made from blocks, knowing me, I'll probably grow to love this though.

Just a note; Weekly Poll prefix is only for use by Kaori and myself.~

(I have nothing further to add to this thread at this point).

I just hate how pixelated the backsprites are. Hatehatehate.
It doesn't look spectacular like they intended it to be, it just looks like they didn't put enough work into it :/
I mean, I can see it would be hard to animate backsprites throughout the whole battle, but they could have made it flow better then it does now. But that's just my opinion xD
I like Triple Battles, however, it looks interesting =]

I Personally love the new animations.Maybe its just me but it looks a little fizzy or something around the edges of the game thou.

Me too! Hatehatehate the pixelization(is that even a word?). I love the backsprites, but the fact they look like someone magnified them on Paint bothers me.

If you dislike the new improved faster battle system, then you need slapping with a fish =/

By that post you can tell that I'm happy with the new system. Moving sprites and such is that a nice bonus (;

On the contrary, I love the new faster battle system, I just hate the backsprites when they get all pixely.

I may not be too happy about some of the new Pokemon designs, and triple battles have to be one of the most stupid ideas, the other new battle upgrades are something that I have always wanted. The animations and redesigns of the older Pokemon are great. I love the shadows and movements of the camera. These add ins themselves are worth the money.

Oh I am most definitely satisfied with B&W's changes to the battle scene ; minus the Triple Battles prolly.
The first moment I saw that full motion, it was between Zoroark and a Shiny Raikou. I will never forget the sheer excitement I felt upon seeing that. To see the Pokemon in full body motion like they would be in real-life battles and how the camera angle shifted to follow the attacks from each side as it went.. it was a side of Pokemon I had dreamed to see and never thought that chance would come. Now when I think back on the static sprites that Pokemon used to be, I squish my face in disgust. There is just no other way of imagining Pokemon now, and these changes have brought my satisfaction wayyyyy up~

But with every pro comes a con and this is where Triple Battles and Rotation Battles come in. It's a very crowded scene and at some points it can get really confusing and tricky, especially the HP bars if you're not used to all of the commotion. Double Battles were fun, but these are over doing that just a little too much for my tastes.

Tl;dr ; I love the new battle style. <3

The moving backsprites doesn't bother me at all, in fact I love that the sprites move constantly now. Makes it feel like there's actually a battle happening and not two statues occasionally hitting each other.

I don't see the fuzzy/pixelated problem people are talking about....

edit: Actually I lie, I remember thinking the sprites were very fuzzy and pixelated when I saw the first moving battle screens. I'm not bothered by them now though...maybe I just got used to them?

Tropical Sunlight January 5th, 2011 3:44 AM

I was used to Pokemon being static at battles, and that's why the moving sprites bothered me at first. But I've got used to it now and I like it. :)

PlatinumDude January 5th, 2011 4:56 PM

I haven't done any triple battles, but by looking at them, I can tell that they're fun to play because of the strategies you have to come up with. The static sprites were a bit boring in-battle, but this was greatly improved in B/W because they were always moving.

Fushigidane-Chan January 5th, 2011 5:09 PM

Not really reviewing triple battles since I haven't fully experienced them at this point...

The battles are an improvement. Fully animated sprites are, of course, the best thing about the game, although some are not as great as others. Battles seem to run somewhat faster, although the speed could definitely be increased (shorter attack animations, faster camera and text, etc.), and running away from wild Pokemon still takes way too long.

I'm not sure why this wasn't done in BW either, but weather effects should be ongoing, i.e. it should show rain in the battle screen until it actually stops raining. The little indicator on the bottom screen is nice, but I just can't stop wondering why GameFreak didn't implement weather effects this way (maybe lag?). And of course, pixelated backsprites need fixing. They're really not as bad as they seemed in the pre-release pics (probably because they're in motion in the game), but they're still pretty ugly.

shinyabsol1 January 5th, 2011 5:13 PM

All of the new battle style systems are fine with me, I really don't have any complaints about them. Triple battles/rotation battles provide opportunity for new strategies, which is always good. But it is a little irritating how the backsprites of your Pokemon are pixelated, yah.

Raichupacabra January 5th, 2011 11:44 PM

I like the new battle system. It's way faster than DPPtHGSS. It took like 3 second between each action on the field. Now unless the attack has secondary effects then it sould go really fast.

I like triple battles. They make battles more fun and more strategic. Same with rotation battles.

The only problem i actually have is backsprites. But i played RBYGSC (not comparing BW's graphics to RBYGSC) so I could get past that.

loliwin January 6th, 2011 4:57 AM

I like it. The new animations are great and they animate good. >:)

Musica January 6th, 2011 5:55 AM

The moving animations gave me lolcoolwthisthatmovingthingwhenfighting look. I like it a lot, except those fast-forwarded battles, lol.

I haven't seen a triple battle around, but I'm sure I'll like it!

Poster January 6th, 2011 10:45 AM

Everything that is new in the battle system is overly amazing, imo. It was about time we saw some additional stuff to it, anyway...

mikey January 6th, 2011 11:32 AM

The new battle styles are amazing. The fact that the pokemon moves is epic.

Triple battles I haven't made up my mind about, it seems like the battlefield is too cluttered. I will have to play the game first~

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire January 6th, 2011 7:18 PM

I loved the new Battle styles when they announced them, I can't wait to have my first Triple battle :D!

Drekin January 6th, 2011 7:32 PM

I loved Double Battles in the other games and I'm looking forward to Triple Battles. I'm uninterested in Rotation Battles and I won't go out of my way in the game to do them.

Sydian January 6th, 2011 11:20 PM

Sometimes the camera moving around in battle annoys me, but otherwise, I'm pretty content with it.

Lockmaster24 January 6th, 2011 11:30 PM

I like the animations and the backsprites don't really bother me too much. I have only done 1 triple battle playing black and i dunno just doesn't feel right. I rather like rotation battles on the other hand. it's a 3-on-3 without the need to waste a turn on the switch in but you lose intimadate and that so its a double-edge sword

King Gumball January 7th, 2011 12:48 AM

Seeing the full pokemon is way better, I was so sick of seeing only Wailord's forehead >:[ This new style is way better, and the pokemon moving with their attacks are really cool as well.

As for triple battles, I like them. I predicted that there would be triple battles since R/S/E after doubles rose to fame.

Le Creep! January 7th, 2011 1:42 AM

Well I've played a coughemulatorversioncough of it, but it crashed halfway through N's first battle.

It's good so far. The characters move faster when they're walking, which is good for me, because I am a bit impatient. A bit, I swear.

The battles are brilliant. It puts you more into the game, somehow. I love how it zooms up when you land a hit ^^
