People talking too much in pokemon
Don't you want the game play to run way more smoothly and frequently? Don't you reckon the trainers and stuff just talk way to much. Yet it seems that that the guy you play as, never ever gets to say one word. So do u think they should cut down on the words?

Sometime I get incredibly irritated if a trainer I've defeated or a person I decided to talk to rambles on for ages about useless things that I already know. But what I hate even more is that when I keep clicking B or A to make the text speed up, abd the person stops talking, I end up clicking them again and have to speed through the text over and over again. |

I don't think the NPCs talk too much. I think that the player character (in-game) doesn't get something to say other than "Yes," "No," or other options presented to them.
|
yes, that speed A pressing is irritating, but I think the whole Pokemon game would be better if you can control your character's words. When they ask you something you can choose to say no or yes, and the story goes differently either way
|
It's just a staple of the game. Personally, in the older games, I don't think the trainers talk as much as they do in the newer games, but they sure are memorable. "You insolent pup!" "Hey! I saw you in Viridian Forest!" AND THE SHORTS GUY. So yeah. In newer games, they talk a little more than needed, but in older games, I like how they kept it short and simple.

Talking and Plot stuff are good...... for the first playthough, then I want them to stuff a metophorical cork in there mouth.
They should have a built in feature to cut down sentences / words on your 2nd or more playthrough. Like have an option kind of like this in the beggining ofthe game; "Would you like the text normal or summary?" Kind of like the "Would you like the text in Kana or Kanji" feature in the Japanese Black and White. |
That wouldn't be good since some NPCs give a hint as to where to go/what to do next. Sometimes I forget what to do on my second playthrough. Hell, sometimes I forget the Trick House in RSE, and I've blazed through those games so many times that it's unnatural.
|
Well, theres a couple of good reasons why they talk alot.
1. They guide you through out the game and give you hints 2. If they didn't talk much, or at all, the game would be over much quicker and it would be much less fun. |

This is why it would be a prefrence of choice feature. And you would be able to change it in the options if you wanted your hints again. That could make a problem because lets say Cyrus from DPPt gives a bunch of hints and you can't retalk to him. So maybe they can change the Journal into a device that replays Conversations or something. |
I never minded how much they talked. You get used to it xD
|
I don't have a problem with them talking a lot. It would get pretty boring if everyone said "Hi" or "Battle now!" without any semblance of personality. It adds a bit to the game and I find that the text usually scrolls fast enough if you set it to "Fast" in the menu.
|
I dont mind the characters you dont need to talk to or those relevant to the story rambling, but god do Trainers ramble on. Gym Leaders, meh. They talk too much but there are only 8 of them. Any person you HAVE to talk to without being part of the story or plot should only have 1 or 2 whole text boxes EVER. In the entire game. Ever.
|
Ya,They talk way to much and no one really reads it all they just mash the button and skip it all.It be nice if they cut back on the chit chat.
|
It gets annoying sometimes, but over the years I got used to it. Well except for this one trainer, in Hoenn on the cycling road, theres this guy who says RYDGLE RYDGLE RYDGLE for like 20 seconds. That was annoying.
|
I get kind of annoyed later on in the games when it isn't just trainers saying a line, and now their saying full conversations after each battle, but overall, I don't mind how much talking there is, as I get used to it after a while.

@GlitchCity The Rydle guy was annoying |
I'm just happy that I can change the speed for the text to fast. lol
|
It's part of the game and you get accustomed to it, well, eventually you do. I know it can get irksome sometimes, specially when you're playing on your second playthrough because you know what to do. Since, most of the characters serve as a guide who gives you hints or tells you what to do next.
I don't mind the "talking" of the characters. Since I like to talk to everyone on whichever town I'm at, makes the whole playthrough a bit more fun, at least for me. |

I do that all the time |
When I play a game the first two or three times, I'll read the text to see if I missed anything the last time. After that, I just press B.
|
If you've been playing Pokemon as long as I have you get used to all the excessive talking but if it's one thing I can't stand it's those dang tutorials they give at the beginning like when dawn/lucas shows you around sandgem town and how to catch a Pokemon. There should really be an option to skip this.
|
I only find it annoying when they give you a chance to refuse an explanation...
...and then tell you anyway. |
Well, I used to just needlessly mash the A button needlessly with the text speed on fast. After a while, I started to read what people
sad, low and behold, some of them actually gave useful advice or a humorous phrase such as the "shorts kid". I don't find it as much of a nuisance anymore, although I remember Cheren and Bel unleashed some pseudo-endless lectures on me while I played White. It could be worse though, it's not like we have Kaepora Gaebora. |
While I love Cynthia to death, her long-winded speeches make me go UGH STFU. *presses A constantly* XD
