Do you ever keep your Pokemon from evolving till the end?
Anyone here NEVER evolve certain Pokemon even though it would be stronger? For me I do with Haunter. I just think Haunter looks cooler than Gengar.
I also prefer Magmar over Magmorter. |
I would if I used Pokemon like Magneton, Magmar, Rhydon, and Chansey... but I don't so no.
I always evolve Pokemon as soon as I can, or to make them learn a certain move, so I don't prevent my Pokemon from evolving. I just might do that to Meraruba when I get B/W seeing as it's physically-oriented and Ulgamoth is specially-oriented.
Stone evolutions I wait til the Pokemon has learned all I want it to learn from its learnset. And umm...I never evolve Aipom. Aipom is cute and Ambipom is scary. I have a problem with it.
I don't think I've ever kept a Pokemon from evolving all the way, but back in the good ol' days of R/S/E I'd always keep a Marill from evolving until level 30 for some reason. :/
I've always fully evoled my Pokemon but I won't be doing so with my future Snivy and Pururiru. Because 1) Snalorda doesn't phase me, also same typing >!< 2) There're too darn cute to evolve 3) Pururiru's evo is ugly.

I never evolve my Pikachu. Never. Other than the fact that Raichu is a hideous piece of garbage, I always will give my Pikachu a Light Ball. In other words, I'm sacrificing an item slot, but I end up getting a cute Pokemon in return with a stronger Attack and Special Attack stat than its evolution.
I also played to the end of HGSS with a Growlithe, and I mean the end. I was planning on evolving it, but I never found a Fire Stone during my playthrough. I had a level 70 something Growlithe when I went up against Red. After all that we went through, I decided to just never evolve him. |
I once didn't let my turtwig evolve because i liked the way he looked better then grotle but i did like torterra best.
I will admit I've often left my Pikachu unevolved. Only in LeafGreen though, as that's the only game that I ever use it in, but that probably seems odd to you lot as Light Ball wasn't introduced in those games. But I did evolve it once I was bored - I just like to see how far I can go with a pokémon with average attacking stats and pathetic defenses. The answer is: Defeat by rival's 2nd round team xD
I don't evolve Stone Evolution pokémon until I desperately need to to progress. To be honest, any pokémon that gets its' evolution cancelled stays unevolved until I need it. |
I only keep the Pokemon that are competitively viable unevolved. With that said, I also always train a separate one for the full evolution as well. The only exception is Wynaut. Training it to Lv. 100 was insanely annoying but I love have it for some reason.
I perfer Dragonair over Dragonite. Not because of strength or anything, just because I just adore Dragonair.
I never evolve Seedot unless I need Nuzleaf and Shiftry for my Pokedex. I love Seedot and I loathe Shiftry.
Oh, how could I forget! During my first play-through of Pokemon XD, I was very reluctant to evolve my Eevee. By the time I was at the Snagem Hideout, it was nigh impossible to use in battle, and I wanted to beat Gonzap (Is that his name?) quickly. I had no choice but to evolve it into Jolteon.
I've always kept certain starters from evolving until a certain time, like keeping Charmeleon from evolving until after the electric gyms of the generation I'm on, and keeping my Pikachu from evolving if it has a Light Ball.
Whenever a Pokemon requires a stone to evolve, and once they learn all the moves I wanted them to learn, that's when I usually wait until the end to evolve them.
i always stop vigoroth from evolving cuz i hate slakoth's ability

When it comes to certain Pokémon like Elekid, Squirtle, or even Combusken, I prefer not to evolve them until after defeating the Elite Four and sometimes not at all. I still have my Monferno in Diamond at over Level 60, and I've decided not to evolve it all the way. I guess it just depends on which Pokémon I'm training and whether I prefer it NFE, because I like it's pre-stages better. |
I've traded in a Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle into Pearl a few years ago and beat the game with them and a few other unevolved pokemon. I think the other three might have been Riolu, Gible and Pikachu but I can't remember.
I don't typically evolve cyndaquill. He's just too cute as a lil' wee tyke. That's not to say I don't like Typhlosion, which I do, but I just like Cyndaquill better. And seeing as I don't really mind much about wifi battles, he functions very well in game for battling in his devolved state.
I always try to not evolve Pikachu and I usually always get to the Elite 4 before finally giving in and evolving him just because his Defense stats are so terrible. In Yellow i tried, unsucessfully, to not evolve the 2 Kanto starters (Squirtle and Bulbasaur) just like the Anime but I eventually let Squirtle evolve into Wartortle.
I used to do this back in 1st gen (I seem to recall Lv100 Voltorb and Goldeen) but since then I've learned more about the game and I wouldn't dream of keeping a Pokemon from its final form except to pick up certain attacks. And they'd most certainly be evolved by level 100.
I only delay evolution if there's a move I really really want to learn sooner, or if it's not learnable by the evo. I don't use pokemon that evolve into something I don't like, because for me, the growing from a smaller cute badass into a bigger scary badass is one of the best parts.
Hehe, it's also the reason I almost never use non-evolving pokemon. I think the only exceptions are Snorlax and Sableye. |
No, I don't. :( Most of my favourites that aren't final evolutions are baby Pokémon so there is literally no benefit to not evolving them. ><;
I remember in Diamond I tried not to evolve Piplup for a long time because I disliked both its evolutions but around level 30 I gave in and evolved it to Prinplup. :/ I did the same with Houndour until level 40 or so, but it didn't really matter because I was training it up to the same level as me level 50 team anyway so all those levels since 24 seemed the same anyway. T_T; |
I have a Stage 1 addiction with starter pokemon. I beat the Pokemon League with a Quilava in Soul Silver recently and multiple times with Marshtomp in Emerald and Ruby.
Sometimes there are exceptions though, like when I'm trying to get through the game fast, so as to get certain Pokemon to migrate over (gotta have them dark types~!) or any other reason involving speed or strength. Lately though, I'm starting to get over this, but only for the Pokemon I've had multiple times in the past. ;p; |
I don't let some of my Pokemon evolve, due to the fact that I think it's cooler than it's next evolution. :3
