It's kind of ridiculous because the 6th is over for a good portion of the world. :\

bobandbill June 6th, 2011 7:05 PM

AFAIK it's 'in the evening' for Pacific time...so it can be whenever it wants really. Eh, when it comes it comes.

bobandbill June 6th, 2011 8:42 PM

Okay it's started now, the update.

It's just very slow or leastways thus far. =p

Gulpin June 6th, 2011 8:49 PM

Its online!! I think I'll update in the morning, or start it tonight. *yawns*

Yep, it looks like it'll take at least fifteen-twenty minutes. In any case, I have it updating now, good times.

Edited to add: Or maybe a lot less time.

Alternative June 6th, 2011 9:01 PM

I'm downloading it right now. It's taking roughly that amount of time. I thought it would've taken a lot quicker than 15 minutes to update with internet and eShop. But hey, free Pokedex 3D and Excitebike. 8D

Yuoaman June 6th, 2011 9:07 PM

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

The eShop isn't working properly because of maintenance or something, I blame the witches.

Alternative June 6th, 2011 9:17 PM

Kind of a disappointment if you as me. Why have this big massive update for everyone if you can't even access it after you've updated? I was looking forward to my free Excitebike and Pokedex 3D. D:

Alternative June 6th, 2011 9:22 PM

I still have Super Mario Land in the full glory of it's original cartridge, so I wonder if I can show that to the camera, if I could get that for free. :P Anyways, I'll still be getting that game for it, since I loved it as a kid. :3

Kenshin5 June 6th, 2011 9:39 PM

I am glad I got through in time to download Pokemon 3D Pokedex. I also got an update on my Spotpass yesterday for Samurai Warriors, two new stages woo! Albeit not very challenging ones.

Oh, you need to have 3DS games to get SpotPass stuff?

Kenshin5 June 6th, 2011 9:46 PM

Not completely sure, but I did have my game in at the time. I just went to system updates around midnight last night and went to update and it came up with the one for Samurai Warriors. I tried with my other games like Street Fighter and Lego Star Wars and got nothing.

Dark Trainer Piro June 6th, 2011 9:59 PM

3DS claims to be updated when it's still version 1.1

Clearly it has become self aware.

Yuoaman June 6th, 2011 10:09 PM

After about an hour I was finally able to get the Pokedex 3D and Excitebike 3D downloaded. The Pokedex 3D is exactly what I expected it to be - not much- and Excitebike is just as much fun as I remember.

bobandbill June 6th, 2011 10:27 PM

Tried the browser, downloaded the pokedex (at least they look decent lthough I wonder how accurate its moveset info is for past generation Pokemon given some learn specific moves via BF tutors etc when I actually get some) and now downloading excitebike, which I never played before. Looking forward to trying that out!

Captain Fabio June 7th, 2011 5:25 AM

Well, I am just downloading the update now, so it will be interesting to see what I think of it all. I haven't seen any of the content in this download, so I will let you know what I think. Haha.

Gulpin June 7th, 2011 6:04 AM

The Pokedex is pretty neat, imo. All I really like is being able to get a 3D view from every angle of a Pokemon, which would be pretty handy if I ever decide to pick up my tablet and draw something. I had a couple of errors at first in the eShop, but I havn't had many since.

Åzurε June 7th, 2011 7:02 AM

The freebies are pretty cool, and the browser's... there. :/ I'm glad they got it all up-and-running, though! Does everybody have the starters, Hydreigon, Emolga, Audino, Foongus and whoever else I'm forgetting? Do we all have the some Pokemon?

Eruption June 7th, 2011 7:28 AM

It's all too late for me, I actually have a decent phone now so I'd rather download better games for that from Android for less money.

£3.60 for an ancient mario game is pretty ridiculous comapared to nothing for angry birds.

That said I have downloaded excite bike and pokedex 3D.

Come on Nintendo do something with this console!

EDIT: Am I doing something wrong on excitebike? All it seems to be is ride, do jump, oh haha you crashed because you jump now you have to wait ten years to fix your bike at the side.

Kenshin5 June 7th, 2011 2:42 PM

Outside of the prices the only thing I have wrong with Eshop is they allow accept Master Card or Visa. Why can't they expect others like Discover and American Express -_-

Åzurε June 7th, 2011 3:12 PM

Currently downloading the E3 trailers they put up in the eShop. :3 All hyped for Kid Icarus again!

It'll be good to have an officially endorsed source for those GB/C games. I miss my Crystal version. T.T

I keep getting and error, and that itll restart the system.
COME ON ALREADY.

Excitebike is probably one of those games that hasn't aged well.

Copy the AR code for it onto a piece of paper/computer and print (it's displayed when you tap the button for it at the top of the info screen for each Pokemon) and aim the AR viewer at that, just like the AR cards for those 3DS AR games. More info basically saying that here.

Samorott has the best animation btw. =p

You were probably looking at it wrong because it willgive me a headache if I look at it wrong but wont if I look at it right.

Åzurε June 8th, 2011 1:49 PM

I'll admit it's given me headaches before, and if I use it for an hour plus with no breaks I still get them. However in moderation or without the 3D it's a non-issue. I guess it just varies person-to-person.

(=Nemesis=) June 9th, 2011 11:02 AM

Generally the 3D effect hasn't bothered me, but the Ocarina of Time trailer on it really hurt. Probably because of all the rapidly-changing scenes. My eyes didn't have time to adopt to the new focal points being forced on them...

Atomic Pirate June 10th, 2011 1:15 PM

3DS Virtual Console

I got a 3DS on launch day and have been waiting for Virtual Console. Now that it's out, I went down to the local Game Stop and bought a card. I got Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land, and Radar Mission. I didn't expect Radar Mission to be as much fun as it is. I also got the free Pokedex, and I am confused as to how I can view my collected Pokemon (in the Pokedex) with an AR card. Also, did anyone else buy 3DS virtual console games?

Kenshin5 June 10th, 2011 4:38 PM

It was alright nothing really wowed me with it though. If I did by it then it would be after games like Zelda Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Luigi Mansion, Kirby Mass Attack, Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Palkia June 16th, 2011 1:09 PM

I do believe that the update fixes a few issues with the charging indicator - It actually turns off when fully charged. Also, the eShop cards won't be available until July. I know it sucks but at least it doesn't force me to get them over other things.

countryemo June 17th, 2011 4:27 PM

Wait so what does the club nintendo points do for the 3DS shop? Cause I finally put my login in (hehe I forgot it). And my balence is still 0$ so idk if it adds money. What is it for?

Atomic Pirate June 20th, 2011 9:39 AM

My local GameStop sells 3DS cards. I bought one the other day.

darkpokeball June 20th, 2011 7:51 PM

I love my 3DS so far. I'm trying to get Excitebike. Oh, and I found an awesome Super Smash Bros. Styled game for it! Check it out:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R0JOL0/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d12_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=07S11WV85EY9QP73A4AN&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

:P it's pretty awesome.

P.S. I don't know if this is true, but on the e-shop, there's something called Link's Awakening, and in there, there's supposed to be a side-scrolling level where you smash goombas and koopas. Can anbody verify that?

Lady Gaga June 25th, 2011 1:12 PM

I love the Pokedex, because aside from the 3D videos, it is the best simple display of 3D and the graphics on the 3DS, and is a great way to introduce friends to the system.

Captain Fabio July 7th, 2011 3:09 PM

So, Nintendo have confirmed what a lot of us already knew.

"Nintendo Admits 3DS Didn't Launch With Enough Strong Games"
http://uk.ds.ign.com/articles/118/1181150p1.html

Kenshin5 July 7th, 2011 3:21 PM

They should if they haven't already owned up to their screw up with the updates as well. They pushed them back and then when the day when the updates were supposed to happen they didn't so then it went down the next day(which isn't that big of a deal). I'm just glad Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is now out. I did enjoy playing Samurai Warriors though, I thought it was just as good as any of the other launch titles.

Munch Dog July 8th, 2011 11:13 PM

I'll finally be getting one for my own! I already bought myself a copy of Ocarina of Time 3D. It was the last copy they had at the store I went. And considering how hard I've been hearing it is to find already I'm considering myself lucky I was able to get my hands on it a mere 2 days ago.

Mew~ July 9th, 2011 4:06 AM

Nintendo is being sued by an old sony employee... nothing suprising there.

Kenshin5 July 14th, 2011 11:33 AM

So apparently Netflix is available on eShop. Although it's probably not going to be too fulfilling of a watch on 3DS though. How long has it been available cause I haven't been to eShop in about a week? If I was a member I would try it out though. Seems like Nintendo is finally making use of the eShop, although a lot of the games don't appeal to me that much.

Mew~ July 14th, 2011 12:35 PM

Although I do agree with the games not being that great. I am glad with that they have done so far. There is a lot of content, maybe not amazing content, but much better than how the Dsi started. With 3D game trailers being available too. I hope they can expand even more with it, I'm looking forward to this so called television service, let's just hope they don't go overboard.

Hey, it's free isn't it?

Kenshin5 July 14th, 2011 12:43 PM

Free to download(more then you can say about some of that stuff). And free one month trial.

Åzurε July 14th, 2011 1:18 PM

Got the Netflix. :D It's not bad at all. Watched me some Fullmetal Alchemist, the resolution is decent enough to appreciate it. Live-action stuff is a little fuzzy, I guess.

I don't think having it on the 3DS adds to your bill. We're already paying for Netflix for the Wii, and it hasn't told me about adding any other fees yet.

Kenshin5 July 14th, 2011 1:27 PM

Is there any movies that are their to maximize the 3D functions with? If so that would be interesting to watch.

Link's Awakening has many enemies from other Nintendo games and also at least one side-scrolling part as I just went through it in the first dungeon. I saw Goombas but no sign of Koopa Troopas yet, there's also Chain-Chomps called Bow-Wows, I just saved one person's Bow-Wow and he asked me to take it to a walk, he can eat the enemies if he sees one :)
I can already say that it's pretty good game. If you like other Zelda games or even if you're new to them but like same kind of games, you should try it.

The Hatter July 18th, 2011 3:53 PM

I downloaded Netflix this week, it's pretty nifty. I love the resolution with anime and cartoons, Iron Man: Armored Adventures looks wonderful on it. And, like Åzurε said, live action stuff is a little blurry. But not enough to make me not watch it.

I want to download some other games, is Link's Awakening fun?

Take a look at my previous post :)

Waiting for Pokémon games to appear on eShop, I have still money on 3DS for one GB/C game and there's Mario's Picross and soon Game & Watch collection but I'm afraid that there will be even better VC game on next week if I go and buy Mario's Picross now.

Sorry for my mistake. The game I meant to mention is Game & Watch Gallery :)
Nintendo Video is nothing special at least for now. I hope it'll get better after some time.

bobandbill July 28th, 2011 12:22 AM

Yo: http://nintendo3dsblog.com/huge-price-drop-for-the-nintendo-3ds
Quote:

There is a huge price drop for the Nintendo 3DS that will soon sweep around the world. Starting from August 12th the Nintendo 3DS will cost only $169.99 in North America, $249.95 in Australia and 15,000 Yen in Japan
And for those who already bought it:
Quote:

…will enable those Nintendo 3DS owners to download 10 NES games and 10 Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for free from the Nintendo eShop.
So if you’ve already purchased the hardware, you’ll be receiving twenty free games as a result of doing that.
Sure, I like $100 cheaper prices myself but I won't complain about getting free games instead. =p (But... GBA games? That's something interesting in itself).

countryemo July 28th, 2011 1:20 AM

Nintendo Video will get better. E3 2010, they said stuff like Shawn the Sheep and other stuff will be coming. And Movie Trailers just look better in 3DS 3D. <3

Whaat. OH Pf. But free games dosent sound that bad. NES seems to quite the majority.. I dont like much of them, but get what you can.

Captain Fabio July 28th, 2011 2:51 AM

Wow, pretty interesting.
It seems like this console is flopping a little, so they are trying to give it a boost.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what those games are.

bobandbill July 28th, 2011 3:17 AM

Well the lack of big sellers atm probably isn't helping them, so I suppose this will help sales pick up before the next few come through (as good as OoT may be it is a remake and only one game), along with the fact that the Vita was priced similarly. (Although not that many consoles start off well anyway at lunch - I think the DS went worse itself and had less good titles in its first year compared to what can be expected of the 3DS). This seems to be a fix for that and the free games offer for those who have it already is pretty neat as it doesn't leave us out, so to speak. That and arguably the free games would be worth more than the price drop... but well, judge for youself - the names thrown about atm aren't obscure titles that didn't sell well after all.
Quote:

Since Nintendo 3DS launched in the United States on March 27, more than 830,000 people in the U.S. alone have purchased one to enjoy 3D visuals without the need for special glasses. These Nintendo 3DS owners represent some of Nintendo's most loyal customers, and Nintendo is rewarding them for getting in on the action early with 20 free downloadable games from the Nintendo eShop.

These free games are available to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program. The program contains two elements:

Starting Sept. 1, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in the Nintendo eShop to the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, are slated to become paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors get them early for free. Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.

By the end of 2011, Nintendo will provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. These include games like Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™. These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.

More details about this program will be announced in the future.

Captain Fabio July 28th, 2011 3:51 AM

Well, if I am honest, I am not really interested in any of those games that they have to offer. I only like LoZ and WarioWare. But you know, can't really complain because they are free.

bobandbill July 28th, 2011 3:56 AM

Myself, I wouldn't mind trying them and as I haven't played any of those (bar a couple of the nes as demos) before they are hence worth more to me as well!

Captain Fabio July 28th, 2011 4:02 AM

That is fair enough and I think they are being clever about it. I don't know how many people have played all those games, personally I have but only because I had those consoles when I was younger.

The chances are that most people haven't played them, so it will appeal to people. They did a better job than Sony's release as they were all recent games and most people had played them.

Legendary Silke July 28th, 2011 6:21 AM

I think I'm going to enjoy the fact that I'll be playing Yoshi's Island sooner or later on my 3DS! I played the heck out of that back when I was a kid on my GBA.

Munch Dog July 28th, 2011 8:55 AM

This is pretty awesome. Paying $250 was worth it imo.

Seconded! I'm really excited about the 3DS, I was when it was announced! When they announced the price, I heard my already empty wallet scream and have a heart attack. I'm glad, I'm finnaly going to get one!

Griffinbane July 29th, 2011 7:17 AM

I am VERY pissed to find out that Megaman Legends 3 got canceled. VERY.

Bluerang1 July 29th, 2011 8:57 AM

Hehe I'm glad I waited. But I'm still gonna wait. I don't need one unless BW's successor will be on 3DS. The price drop should get more sold though.

Kevin July 29th, 2011 9:05 AM

I'll probably get a 3DS because of the price drop, but sad I won't be able to get Ambassador-exclusive GBA games.

professor plum July 29th, 2011 10:19 AM

thank goodness the price is dropping
I don't even know what they were thinking releasing it at such a steep price.
I'm hesitant to buy it, though. I'm sure a 3DS Lite or something will be coming out sometime next year.

I'm all for the price drop, and WILL be buying it. It's not like the NES/GBA games are going to be in 3D, so I don't feel like paying $80 more games I already own/could download and emulate at anytime.

I'm so glad it went down to $169.99, haha. Now I'll for sure be buying one before I head back to school. XD

NatureKeeper July 29th, 2011 9:09 PM

What. What. What. What.

I spend $250 on a system that is $90 cheaper afterwards.

Well, at least I get exclusives.

2Cool4Mewtwo July 30th, 2011 8:28 AM

I bought this for $250 but it's my money and it was my decision to be so impatient... But 20 games are worth it IMO, especially if 10 of those games are exclusive to "ambassadors."

Bloo July 30th, 2011 7:47 PM

This seems pretty good. I feel as if this is a sort of replacement for having to pay $249.99 USD for a 3DS, and the extra $80 that we had to spend will be replaced by tese games. I just really hope that Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire will be available, but I really wouldn't mind trying a free game. Also, Super Mario Advance 3 is particularly exciting to me. When I first got my GBA, I got this game, so I would love to play it again, especially since it was one of my first video games.

2Cool4Mewtwo July 30th, 2011 7:57 PM

Uh oh.

Though if the prices drop to $170 then I don't see 3DS sales struggling.

Legendary Silke July 31st, 2011 3:50 AM

I'm pretty sure that there's a turnabout brewing for the 3DS. Especially when its price is now... well, lower than the cheapest PSP that you can get in Japan...

With the heavy hitters coming out, and Vita still not being out, I have a feeling that the 3DS, with the price drop, might finally reach its target.

Åzurε August 2nd, 2011 8:40 PM

I think that $170 may have been a mite too low, I'd personally say 180 is perfect even as a desperation maneuver. As for the Ambassador program, what do y'all think of that? 20 free eShop games, 10 NES and 10 apparently-exclusive GBA games. I think that it's suitable compensation (well, so long as you ignore caveat emptor).

Wild Mass Guessing time: They revealed 5 GBA games. They said we get 10.

There were how many Pokemon GBA games? 5.

I'm obviously probably dead wrong, but the thought makes me happy. Now give me my Boktai and GBA Earthbounds and I'll be on my way.

5 GBC / 5 GBA. I wish a pokemon game, though how to render those into 3D. Would still be cool though.

None of the twenty games for "Ambassadors" will be 3D-enhanced. They'll be direct ports and whatnot.

I didn't think for one second that Nintendo would have done anything except port the games since they are giving them away for free.
They should have done a bit of polishing on them though...

Right, they're only changing up the games marked as "3D Classics". Other than that, everything is a direct port.

Also, is it possible to stop upscaling of VC games?

Late August 4th, 2011 8:39 PM

I'm hoping for multiplayer as there's Mario Kart in the list too. NES games were already confirmed that they'll have multiplayer when they get available to everyone but what I've seen there's no mention o multiplayer GBA games.

TRIFORCE89 August 6th, 2011 12:11 PM

I'd rather have free 3DSware titles instead of NES and GBA games I already have, but whatever. I'll take what I can get. It's free.

countryemo August 6th, 2011 1:59 PM

Ok so I got something about Nintendo Video.

Why cant you view previous videos?
Do you think this is a bad idea?

Nintendo does not understand digital distribution. Plain and simple.

Everything they offer is in an RSS feed-like setup.

If it's old, good luck ever finding it in the case of WiiWare, etc. And with Nintendo Video, new videos replace the old ones completely.

Not that I have any desire to watch that one short of "Dinosaur Office" repeatedly and forever, but it just shows Nintendo's... attitude

Åzurε August 6th, 2011 3:21 PM

I think the mentality is that Nintendo Video is basically providing elongated 3D commercials. There may a few exceptions, but after the first pass, that's what it feels like (bar, perhaps, the OK GO video). I suppose you could conceivably store the files for the video on the computer or something, and the 4-at-a-time thing keeps your memory card reasonable. But so far it just feels like advertising. Maybe I won't mind that when they show trailers for a game I'm excited about.

They already do that in the eShop though, such as with OoT before it came out. Unless you just mean those games didn't excite you.

Hypno August 7th, 2011 6:38 AM

People who own a 3DS most likely own or have played the games that Nintendo is offering, hence why we got a 3DS, but oh well, hopefully there's at least 2 or 3 games that I haven't played.

Eruption August 10th, 2011 7:29 AM

I think I'm going to sell mine and then rebuy it when there is a suitable level of games available.

Chances are the price will drop a fair bit by then anyway. :D

Well, they have the one video. But lots of games have multiple trailers of varying lengths, and some of the eShop trailers weren't in 3D.

New theory: Nintendo should have "channels" for Nintendo Video. You select up to 4, like College Humor/Nintendo News/Music Videos/Whatever Else out of a longer list, and it downloads the current videos for the those channels, basically providing more variety and customization. People like variety and customization.

Quoth a little post on nintendo3dsblog, the Ambassadors are currently set to receive their complimentary games with an unfinished interface. No suspending the game with Home, no save states, no sleep mode, no multiplayer, wireless or otherwise (and this, unlike the others, says "not supported", giving the vibe that they aren't even gonna end up fixing this).

Oh, yup. L+R+sel+start as it boots. The GBC makes me happy.

Oh, whoops. I've been doing L+R too. The more you know, I guess.

I was under the impression that they would later update the games (the NES ones anyway) and could then update for free too when they do so, or so I recall from the initial announcements anyway. But what's the source on it being like that?

Pretty sure that stuff will get updated to take advantage of the 3DS features and proper emulation. No doubt about that - it's just that they had to do it quickly. At least the NES titles will get updated when they do go on sale. That's a will, not a may. Pretty sure the press release had that...

So is there anything too this? Cause if Emerald is really one of the titles I will **** bricks.

bobandbill August 14th, 2011 11:38 PM

No - it's just vague rumours with no evidence and Pokemon Emerald would be really darn unlikely. Consider false until proven otherwise.
