My problem: I got an Eeevee and I wanted an Umbreon (never used one before)... anyway, it is now 9:30 pm and I am training Eevee and he has enough happiness to evolve... the thing is Eevee keeps evolving into Espeon at night... I think this might be a glitch...

I'm not sure if this problem only happens in beta 3.2 (I have to get beta 3.1 again and check).

What emulator are you using? I've tested the evolution myself on VBA-M, VBA, VBA-L and No$GBA, and it worked on all 4 of them. It also worked on VBA-H if you manually set the time in memory (because VBA-H doesn't support the RTC).

We aren't planning any major memory overhaul, so yes, it should be perfectly fine. One thing, use the in game save, not savestates if possible. Savestates can (not will) cause bugs on their own, and if you then report a bug caused by a savestate, we will spend hours on hours trying to track down a non-existant bug.

I found an EXP Share in the Rocket Treasure Hunt minigame on the first orange island.

Also, I'm in the Cave of Wisdom minigame and I just found a Prinplup. I'd post a screenshot of it but I don't have 15 posts. It was just two big white question marks and it only used tackle. It also didn't seem to be weak to electric.

It's not a real Prinplup. It's a remnant from me copying the decapitalised Pokémon names over from the 649 Patch. That's all it is. Still technically a bug, though, since you obviously shouldn't be able to encounter it.

Not sure about Mr. Pokemon, but the Red Gyarados & Red Scale are in the game.

Thanks for the tip.

I encountered one of those in Dragons Den (different Pokemon name, same sprite), figured it was a glitch & killed it.

Also, does Move Relearner exist in this game? I caught Gengar from the Vermillion event & it's moveset is awful, it knows Dream Eater but doesn't know Hypnosis. I hope there's a third Moon Stone at some point so I can just evolve my Haunter.

Take the Red Scale to Mr. Pokémon on Route 30 and see if he exchanges it. If not, there may be some other use for it added to this game.

Check Blackthorne City. If you can't do it there, I have no idea. You may need Heart Scales.

In every Pokemon center, in the top left corner, there should be a computer. It will reteach your Pokemon moves for free.

Technically you must encounter Bill first in Ecruteak's PokeCenter for this to happen

Hound of Justice November 10th, 2012 4:41 AM

I got my EXP Share from Mr. Pokemon for giving him the Red Scale so yeah the event works fine

Will you make a version with easier difficulty the games very hard from the start, and its very hard to beat both axel and silver in azalea i mean cmon axel even got a dragon pokemon...
The hack feels to be like a X version now lol its challenging but it can be frustrating too so i guess a normal version would be cool :P

Yeah I agree with you the hacks remind us Shiny Gold X of Zel at that stage. But I think its not that hard too. You just need a strategy to beat Both of those guys and thats all

Uzigunner November 12th, 2012 4:37 AM

Love this game actually, secretly played all your betas and really am impressed with your work actually, but random question though, u plan on changing Silver's Battle sprite with his HG/SS Battle Sprite or r u just gonna stick with the current one?

Had no idea about this, great addition to the game & very useful.

What do I do after beating Misty? Nothing triggers when I go near Digglett's Cave from either side, I got all of the Cerulean Cave items (Mewtwo isn't at his normal spot) & nothing happens there either. I think I'm missing something from the Radio Tower that lets me wake up Snorlax.

You have to complete the Power Plant event as well as in Rock Tunnel in order for that Director of Radio Tower to give you PokeTar

Cyclone November 13th, 2012 8:16 AM

In the HG/SS remakes, you had to acquire the PokéFlute through an Extension Card for your PokéGear. That Extension Card came after a series of events - including the Power Plant - and came from the radio tower in Lavender City. I'd imagine you're trying to acquire a similar item to awaken Snorlax here, as well, so if you don't get it from anyone there see if there's a step you missed; the Copycat Doll (in Saffron) is part of it in HG/SS.

Cyclone

Reject217 November 13th, 2012 6:28 PM

You don't get PokeFlute in this game, instead, it is a PokeTar. I believe that they (the creators of this hack) did not have enough memory in the game to create extension cards or an actual PokeGear, so they used the sprites that were available in the game to create what they needed.

Yeah i agree with you. That costs a lot of memory to put so LaZ simply added PokeTar as well as VS Seeker separately

Hi, I'm in saffron trying to take on team static in silph co, I picked up the card key and then got lost in the warp maze and decided instead to just take on the elite four ( as I hadn't done it yet) and when I beat them I came back to saffron to find I didn't have the card key and that it was not behind the painting either, any help??

How the heck did you get to Kanto without beating the E4???

I echo this question. The only way through is via the Victory Road entrance gate that intersects Routes 22, 26, and 28. Access to Route 28 is blocked until you have 16 badges. Access to 22 is blocked until you walk in from the other side. On an actual SoulSilver game I turned on "Walk Through Walls" one day for fun on Route 26 and accidentally walked into Route 22 before finishing Johto. I did walk through the gateway and it DID open the path from Johto (though I did not save this entry being cheated in). Just getting to the point that unlocks passage requires the Power Plant mission and collecting of whatever wakes up Snorlax in this game by Diglett's Cave, after which going south into Viridian City and west onto Victory Road (and through the gate) is perfectly legit.

With that said, if you somehow activated the Magnet Train or the ship from Olivine without finishing the E4, then there's a scripting bug somewhere. Otherwise, if you were at Silph Co. before defeating the E4, you were cheating and deserve what you get. Jambo has not planned for anyone to use workarounds to cheat their way through the game or otherwise get through in a way that isn't planned.

rossi933 November 14th, 2012 9:52 AM

I did not use any cheats to get into kanto, I was defeated by elite four then sent back to johto, I then walked through new bark and got a call from elm saying about hoenn champion, when i beat him i got an ss ticket so I used it at alivine, in no way did I use any hacks or cheats!

Should I just start a new game, or is there a way around this??

Viktormizer November 14th, 2012 11:33 AM

Every time I buy a Larvitar from the Celadon Game Corner I get a Bad Egg. What am I supposed to do with this? I assume this is just an error & the Game Corner doesn't fully work yet.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out what was going on. I had just battled myself in Viridian & went straight to the Game Corner from there. Any wild grass I go into, the first Pokemon I encounter is the exact same one at the front of my party no matter what it is. If I catch it everything goes back to normal & I can buy a Larvitar with no problem.

If the original Crystal were to be a basis for comparison, it isn't supposed to be available. It only appeared in Silver in that generation and that is maintained in SoulSilver (I got one there) in Gen. IV.

I wonder whether one of the extra things added to the game gives you your chance to get one, however? After all, trading is - well - not possible. Normally.

I think you've identified a nasty bug. When defeated, you go back to the Pokémon Center. Here, you lost and were treated as a Champion.

Perhaps Jambo or someone can take a saved state and do something on his working copy to restore your ID card? i.e. create an "item" on the map that registers the ID card, save THAT state, and send it back? That way you have the ID card back and you carry right along where you left off.

I'd recommend saving the game immediately before the save state just to be safe if this turns out to be an option.

Hm... yeah, I can indeed imagine it taking up some space... though if you think about it... how much memory does the PokéNav take up in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald? 'Cause the ASM functions from there can be copy and pasted onto a FireRed ROM, as long as you have the header functions set on the main menu for it's position and data overlay location. Then it can be simply altered, I think I'd really try to research that if I was hacking generation 3 ROMs. ;)

Wow, you just horrendously oversimplified the process of porting something as complex as the Pokénav to FR. Do you think we would have declared it as unreasonable, and not worth the time if it was as easy as you're making it out to be?

By your logic, we could copy and paste the contests code and they would work? Of course not, the data and things like graphical data are absent from the target ROM. However, we are attempting to add some type of Pokégear through a different means, in a way similar to how the Ruins of Alph puzzles were added.

For the record, lack of memory has nothing to do with it.

Jambo51 November 15th, 2012 3:01 PM

Hey guys. Myself and Link are playing around with an idea, and we want your feedback, because, after all, you guys are the people who will benefit most out of the idea if we do implement it.

What would you guys think if we were to implement a GB Player (a la HGSS) but, unlike HGSS, it was to use the original songs taken straight from a Crystal ROM, played using the GBA's built in synthesiser?

Before you blindly answer, not knowing how accurate the music may potentially be, I will stick a youtube video showing a potential version of the music playing on LC (AND on a BIOS too, proving it would also work on real hardware).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgPaa8i4igM (Note, I tried to embed it, but I seem to be physically incapable of embedding videos onto forums. XD)

So... what are your guys thoughts? This could potentially be in the next release of LC, because it is a simple process to insert the songs, and add the little code necessary for the music switching.

Thoughts?

Hound of Justice November 15th, 2012 5:10 PM

The deleted post was my attempt to embed the video, but it seems the privilege is removed from everyone. I've asked for a moderator to help with it, but that's what the deleted post was. The "url" tag automatically goes in between the "youtube" tag.

And yes, the GB Player is a nice idea. Similar to HG/SS.

EDIT: I figured it out looking at embedded videos in the Dark Future thread. You don't paste the entire URL; just the part after the "v=" in the URL.

Jambo, here's your video:

Centralizer November 16th, 2012 7:48 AM

Definite yes to the GB player. I already like Liquid Crystal more than GSC and HGSS, so this would make it even better.

Reject217 November 17th, 2012 1:16 PM

I agree with the others as for the GB player, but I'm still a bit confused on what to do based on the comments on the Youtube page.

Quickster November 17th, 2012 3:52 PM

Hey Jambo, I love the GB Player! I definitely think you should insert it, and the tracks sound awesome! I also love the fact that it stays on even after the game is off, when I found myself turning the one on in Soul Silver everytime I started. Great job!

What do you mean by "what to do based on the comments"? This GBP hack isn't in LC yet, if that's what you mean. That song was a test of its viability in terms of accuracy compared to the original and a test to see if people would want it.

I've listened to HGSS' GBP tracks. I didn't really like their version of the tracks, so at first I didn't find GBP for LC worth it. However, as I watched your videos yesterday - they're way more accurate! Definitely would be awesome :)

(Also what about tracks that didn't exist in GSC? Like surf-night, orange island music, zelda credits, some RSE music which is used in this hack, etc)

With the mixes created by Magnius, we are asking him if he wants to do 8 bit mixes of them.
With the RSE music (and various other 16 bit music from other games), we probably won't create 8 bit versions of them, and will use the HGSS method of just using the 16 bit version.

The credits will (for the GBP version) be reverted to the ACTUAL GSC credits theme.

Yes :P

About forcing 16-bit soundtracks in RSE places, wouldn't that feel a bit off? It's not like I want you to do more work than needed, but I just feel that. Also, HGSS added in 8-bit versions of tracks not existing in GSC -- for example, route 47/48, global terminal, and some places in Kanto which got the "correct" music inserted (Ceruelan for example).

If the long term plan however is removing the music from RSE (and the occasional music from other games) in favour of own tracks, then I guess making 8-bit tracks of it wouldn't make sense though :p

The remixes made by Magnius definitely should be done from him, though.

On a bit related note, have you thought of using HGSS' route 47/48 music as the music in Route 100? I have a feeling this would actually feel just right, both are kind of a last route, game-exclusive (not in GSC), and special in general. I feel that the music (the melody itself, using HGSS soundbank would possibly feel a bit wrong) would fit.

Espeon wins I admit because I thought Gardevoir evolves by 2 stages it should win the contest

I just saw that I have two bad eggs in one of my pokemon storage boxes that I didn't see before. Here it is:
http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff496/dragonrider101/Pokemon-LiquidCrystal.png

Any Ideas how this happen and I didn't use cheats and should I do with them?

I recommend omelettes...oh, wait. Wrong kind of Egg. :D

The best I can suggest is try to import some kind of Action Replay code to delete all Pokémon in a box and stick them in that box. I've seen an unedited clip of that working in one official Pokémon game. Just make sure only the Bad Eggs are in there if you try it. You can't release an Egg, even if it's bad, so it might be the only choice unless you find a cloning code and can use it to copy another Pokémon over top of it.

Bad Eggs can be the result of bugs, so it might also help to know when they appeared and what you did between your last visit to the PC and your actually getting them.

The codes? No idea. I don't even recommend using codes, but in cases like this it seems feasible. I should research these for each official game in the 3rd gen.

EDIT: Here's another option. Mew in Box 1, Slot 1. If Mew is another Pokémon in this hack, it could be something else with the code, so I cannot guarantee results especially since this is a LeafGreen code (but hey, HG and SS share codes I've found, so maybe FR/LG do too). Video below shows a good demonstration.

Here's the Youtube link and it has a link to the code.

(MODS: If my posting this code is not within forum guidelines, please leave it temporarily to see if it works in the hack to allow Drakasshadow to remove his Bad Eggs. That's what I'm trying to do here, not promote cheating. I plan to remove the code later after Drakasshadow confirms he's tried it, and the rest of this post will remain.)

Wow Remake of Pokemon siver using firered Rom? Nice!

Satoshi Ookami November 28th, 2012 12:38 AM

@Drakasshadow+Cyclone: No, no, no. Don't ever think of removing Bad Eggs!
Bad Eggs are bad but as long as they are in box and you don't do something with them, they don't do harm (they did not hatch, so they cannot xD) so just leave them there and don't care ;)

Drakasshadow November 28th, 2012 12:56 AM

I did the suicune quest and capture her. While on the new island, I capture some 3 gen pokemon that were all female, every wild pokemon was female except for the genderless pokemon. Then I save it and quit. Then I load the save game up on another day. Want to evolve eevee into an espeon but she didn't evolve. So I went to the lady talking about evolve but she said about she only evolve though breeding. So I breed her but still got the same line and two male eevees. That when I discovered the bad eggs. I check again the bad eggs disappear after I load the game from when I save after my eggs hatch.

FIQ November 28th, 2012 1:31 AM

Don't talk with the evolution seer in Cianwood. The script doesn't work properly (tells that everything evolves just by breeding), and spawn 2 bad eggs in box 2, at the 28th and 29th place. If you had pokémon there before, the eggs will look just like normal eggs, but if you didn't have any pokémon in there, they will still be there, but invisible and even more unstable. Hopefully the pokémon you had there wasn't important for you, or essential for completing pokédex.

Bad Eggs can be removed this way assuming you haven't any backup (the best way of removing bad eggs is to just go back to an earlier save):
* Move the bad eggs to an empty box at the rightmost place in the box
* Press select to get the yellow hand
* From the right bad egg, hold, and go left until you get both the eggs and a empty spot in the hand
* Place the bad eggs
That should remove them.

Eevee evolves to espeon/umbreon on max happines. Getting max happines can be a bit tediious -- see http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Happiness#Generation_III for how it works exactly

Onmi November 28th, 2012 7:28 AM

Bug Report

Move Tutors can teach Pokemon moves they can't learn

E.G. the Overheat Tutor can teach Poliwag and Heracross Overheat, the Dragon Claw tutor can teach Heracross Dragon Claw.

Also the description for Dragon claw is the description for Headbutt

Drakasshadow asked how to get rid of them, and I'm assuming saving has already occurred. While you are correct, the question was how to get rid of them. This is one way to get rid of them. There are others.

Of course, if the in-game save has NOT been used, then go back to the prior save or an earlier savestate taken since that save where the Bad Eggs are not present.

I repeat that covering them with a working Pokémon via a code - thus removing them - allows the player to then get rid of the extra Pokémon and the Egg is removed from the box. I strongly advise backing up the saves and savestates when doing this in case something borks, though typically if a game freezes you can still load the prior savestate and carry on without repeating the action that froze it. Did this in Shining Opal in the kitchen area located in Vantrek City. However, another post above identifies the error, so if Drakasshadow reverts to the save before talking to that character the problem should resolve itself. I wonder if a version without the buggy NPC can be released?

hey, i have been playing lately, and for some reason i'm pretty low leveld, i'm at mahogany town trying to beat pryce, and i'm currently lvl 39 with typhlosion, espeon at lvl 35, scyther manectric pidgeotto and shelgon between level 30-32, and i need a exp grinding place ASAP, since i can't find any of them at this point, and resseting trainer battles at my house mess everything up, too well that i saved before doing that....by the way, is sneasel useful on this game, i mean, here a sneasel can't evolve into weavile, so i'm asking if sneasel is a good option, because it's like the only ice type i like along with weavile and lapras, and should i replace shelgon with extremespeed dratini which i should get at blackthorn city after defeating team saturn?

Why don't you use the Pokegear which functions like a Vs Seeker to re-fight trainers?

Cyclone November 28th, 2012 4:21 PM

@Gold011, you can't go to Route 44 until Team Rocket is defeated in the original Crystal and HG/SS. Unfortunately, except for the Lv.25 Tentacool around Cianwood, there isn't much at a similar level to grind on yet.

The seer really means they evolve through leveling up or through happiness when she tells you they evolve through breeding.

Onmi November 30th, 2012 2:48 AM

I don't know if this is a bug or on purpose but the Rocket Executives in the Radio Tower simply use

On the 4th Floor: A level 41 Golbat
On the 5th Floor Female: A level 41 Onix

I'm not sure if they're meant to have such a small party, and certainly not the party they had before. But I find it note worthy.

Also if I may make a suggestion, not knowing what you plan to do... Change up the Gym Leaders teams. I'm not sure why Falkner is still using Pidgey/otto while Pryce apparently did something right to get a Glaile. Johto has other birds

It only overwrites 2 specific slots in the box, as opposed to adding new ones. It'll overwrite whatever happens to be in that slot, potentially a valid Pokémon or another bad egg itself.

For the sake of readers of this bug, I pose this follow-up: if those two slots in the PC do not have anything in them, will she still create two Bad Eggs in them? i.e. overwrite the emptiness?

@CycloneGU Yes, it does.

As I say, it's a known bug, but neither myself or LaZ currently have time for bug fixing.

Also, bad eggs created from empty slots are even more glitchy than "normal" bad eggs. You don't want to mess with them, really.

hey, I'm unsure if this has been reported, but when you go to Bill's house to do the TM Dig-Up minigame, the screen shakes up and down and you get nothing. This is on the latest beta, but I've had this occur to me on my Android's emulator, so I'm unsure if it is affected anywhere else.

sigi456 December 7th, 2012 5:15 AM

hey, i'd like to report a bug: i was trying to get the zapdos and as always i saved my game in front of the zapdos sprite (before you talk to it to battle) however i still couldn't catch it after 7 or 8 battles so i decided to catch a scyter and teach it false swipe, i exited trough the side door at the powerplant and when i came back (after training the scyter in the pokemon league using exp. share) the zapdos was gone.
ALSO
this story is about my second time playing this version the first time i played it, i caught the zapdos but the sprite seen from behind in battle was a moltres...

As of latest beta, Axel show up outside Radio Tower no matter what. It worked perfectly for me doing the quest on desktop using vba-m, but I was on a slightly outdated beta then. Now that I have the latest, Axel began showing up outside radio tower, even though I did that event ages ago.

@alienhunterx: You can't go to ceruelan before lavender, if you try to, then you'll be stopped by LaZ that tells you something is up in lavender and that you should go check it out "NAO".

Good to see you. Your 533 is doing fine."

So... how can i fix this and put pokemon in. I've never put any in before, and I only just got togepi out of the egg. I don't think I have any bad eggs in my box... Help?

You must be playing an out of date version, because what you've got there is a bad egg. Reason I say you must be playing an old version is because that was all fixed in 3.2 with all the memory modifications we made.

Sadly, a 3.1 gamesave of any variety is incompatible with 3.2.

I've been playing this on my Android for a few months now, so I might know what to do. First, you must apply the IPS Patch you downloaded to a copy of Pokemon Fire Red (make sure they both have the same name, it's easier to patch it). After that is done, all you have to do is put it in your phone. The way that I did it was that I made a separate folder for Gameboid. In there, I made 2 extra folders, one for a BIOS file, and another folder for the games.

Hey I have some questions about the latest beta of Liquid Crystal that I've recently started playing through.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Amulet Coin and Macho Brace?
I'm also curious as to how Kadabra and Poliwhirl evolve now into their trade evolutions?
I'm liking the latest beta man, the new title screen is livee!

FIQ December 18th, 2012 1:23 PM

Read this to get answer

Spoiler:
Amulet coin - don't know/remember
Macho brace - You can buy those in Leaf Bay city. No idea if you can get hold of any earlier than that.
Poliwhirl evolution - Use water stone (Poliwrath) as usual, or Sun Stone (Politoed)
Kadabra evolution - Moon stone

And here are the rest "impossible" evolutions, might have forgotten any

Hunter ---Moon Stone---> Gengar
Graveler ---Lv42---> Golem
Machoke ---Lv42---> Machamp
Slowpoke ---Sun Stone--->Slowking
Porygon ---???---> Porygon2
