What part annoyed you the most in R/B/Y?
For me, I say Cycling Road, I hate it cause I get poisoned and almost die.
Rocket Hideout. :( Spinning torture gave me headaches. And you spin SO SLOWLY.
the missingno glitch, someone told me to do it, (i was small back then)
Quote:
As far as annoying goes, I'd say getting into Lt. Surge's gym. It always takes me a couple tries, and it's always one of the barrels across the gym from where I start searching... |
Silph Co. That place was confusing as hell.
The lavender town tune. My nose started bleeding and I never went back again.
I think it was cause: 1.) it was loud 2.) I heard it for like half an hour straight 3.) i kept hearing like a hidden noise kinda thing that other people said they couldn't hear |
Any part which involved Zubats or Tentacools attacking you every two steps.
Giovanni's Gym when you don't have Venusaur or Blastoise on your team in yellow. Also the Hyper Fang spamming Ratatta & Raticate.
Most of the caves (Zubat and Geodude every couple seconds. Uh, no.), Lavender Town's tune (it kind of creeped me out as a kid), Rocket areas with the spinning and annoying confusion of mazes, the step counter in Safari Zone (because it took me a few tries to find the Warden's Teeth), and of course the Cycling Road where you try every way to avoid people and still end up failing. >_>
Going through Mt. Moon or any other caves without a repel in your bag. I learned my lesson there.
Quote:
As a kid though, Rock Tunnel would annoy me, I'm the type that doesn't like using moves that don't cause damage and I didn't dedicate a pokemon to HMs as a kid. So I always go through that cave blind, course now its no problem. |
At Pokemon Yellow, it used to be the Rock Tunnel. You know, the tunnel that connects to Route 10 to Lavender Town. Because my Pikachu used to be like...really high leveled while my other pokemon were sitting in the 10s? And there were hikers EVERYWHERE and each of them had at least eaither a geodude or an onix. And those geodude ALWYAS used Selfdestruct; which always OHKO'd my Pikachu...so I had to come back and forth out of the Rock Tunnel, healing my pokemon. Also, I didn't like how it was dark and you needed flash; that part was also annoying. :l
the stupid zubats that like stalk and confuse you. And dont let you run
Silph Co, it was confusing which pisses me off. Places such as the sea, caves also annoys me. Everytime I take a step, a Pokemon appears. >.<
Gary Oak.
...Well seriously, can't think of anything else than Zubats inside the game. So I'll say getting the game stolen by your own step-dad. ;_; |
Any tunnel, because of Zubat and Geodude. But especially Rock Tunnel and having to use Flash...
Being destroyed by a level 31 Dugtrio in Diglett's Cave.
Having to fight Brock on Yellow. I had to train a frikin' caterpie for ages :/
Quote:
anyways mines how confusing silph co is it was a game designed for 10 year olds not ablert einstein -.- |
The league champ, not the rival though! I never had ice types when I needed them!
Rock Tunnel. No other part in the game comes close at all. For some reason I never bothered to use Flash, and even after going through it in dozens of play-throughs and memorizing every rock of it, it was still hell for me. Besides Lorelei (probably misspelled) of the elite four, it's the only part of the game that I actually disliked.
Rock Tunnel, I learned it the hard way, with a Pokemon coming at you with each step you take. I didn't use repels back then.
Rock Tunnel, I hate using HM's on Pokemon because they can't lose them. >_>
Rock Tunnel, trying to get past Vermillion City, couldn't figure out how to get out of that place.
Easily the worst thing is being in a cave/pokemon tower/where you get the secret key in Cinnabar or w/out any repels.
In Yellow, it was Giovanni. His freakin' Rhydon..... his Dugtrio.... Fissure.... BOOM MUDA****A VENASAUR IN THE HOUSE! Yea.I had to ask my friend for help so much times.
Training before the Pokemon League really annoys me. It is just so repetitive.
The teleporting in Sabrinas Gym, it took me forever to reach her, then even longer to get out D;
I just found my Blue :O I hate fighting my Rival on the SS Anne D:<
Please note that I'm writing from my six year old perspective. So if I say something is hard, it's not hard for me anymore. So don't think I still struggle with any of these hard parts, lol.
Mt. Moon and Rock Tunnel For some reason, I could never find my way through either caves. My heart would start racing whenever I saw the exit, too. Brock on Yellow I was six at the time and I haven't played Yellow since, and I didn't know that Mankey or Nidoran had a type advantage over rock. So I spent almost all of my time grinding south of Pewter until Pikachu knew Quick Attack. Once then, I'd pray for my battle against Brock. I don't remember ever getting past Lt. Surge, though. GARY MOTHER****ING OAK Although now it doesn't bother me, as I know when he appears at all times, but when I was younger, I wasn't entirely sure when or where. And usually my favourite thing to do was explore the area before doing what I was supposed to be doing. So naturally, Gary would come up when I least expected him, destroying my weakened team. The Silph Co. I've always hated the Team Rocket parts the most. It just drags on. Walk for a little bit, then fight a Rocket Grunt. And the puzzles were mindnumbingly difficult when I was six. Now they're easy, but repetitive. :/ Sabrina and Lt. Surge's Gym I'm sure a lot of other people hate these gyms too. Pretty much any gym with a random puzzle seems to get on my nerves, but these two take the cake. It took me at least an hour to figure out how to open Lt. Surge's door, and even longer to get to Sabrina and fight her, then to get out. Surfing anywhere I've always detested surfing. It's not that it's hard to do, but... Wild TENTACOOL appeared! Over and over and over again. The relentlessly long routes that are packed with trainers Usually it seems really long when my team is weakened, though. One hit KOs Especially when you're at full life your opponent gets a critical hit. Trainers who use recovery items I know it's a valid strategy, but it still sucks, bringing a Pokémon down to it's knee. The feeling of having victory taken away for a few turns is annoying. "You're just postponing the inevitable, Mr. Oak!" |
Besides all the things on this thread, the time it took to walk ANYWHERE. Especially now that I'm used to using the Running Shoes, playing R/B/Y is even harder...
Quote:
This is the only appropriate image I have with Gary >_> He always messed me up- JK. I beat his ass everytime. *trollface* |
For me, It would have to be the "Rock Tunnel" because it seemed more like a "Victory Road" type deal plus, right after I got out, I had to be greeted with creepy music.. Not the best experience.
The fact that you couldt run, and i also never read anything so id always be confused.
I'm going to have to go with the safari zone and Sliph Co.
Silph co hands down i quit for like 2 months cause of that place :P
In like 2001 when I started playing, I didn't know anything where to go or what to do.
So you can imagine me in Saffron Gym & Silph. Co D: It was a nightmare. My good Ol' brother helped me; basically, in Generation 1 it would have to be the Team Rocket in Saffron city that annoyed me, and in Generation 2 it has to be the Team Rocket in Goldenrod City v_v Although I do love TR :3 |
Another thing that annoyed me - I had no idea how to save for weeks. I had to restart the game so many times and I'd leave my gameboy on so I didn't have to restart. At some point I figured out trying to cut the bush in Viridian City would save the game once, so I got to save at that point.
Then I finally hit start and saw there was a save feature. After that everything was smooth sailing. |
Sabrina's gym. Hated it. I actually managed to do Surge first time =S.
Safari Zone. That place still annoys the crap out of me. I'd be fine just going in, getting Surf and the Gold Teeth and going back out; it's catching all the damn Safari Zone-only Pokemon (which is far too many) that really pisses me off.
Every laberinth they have, but now I figured out that I could just find videos about it so wil be easier do them. So yep. Used to hate them, now I just dislike them.
That rival battle in silph co.
I read a guide and memorized silph co's base, but the rival battle was just rediculous. Even today it takes me ten minutes to defeat him When superspeeding |
I never liked going through the Rock Tunnel. Back then, I never knew how to get Flash so I always ran around through that pitch-black tunnel and made it out 3 hours later.
At least, I now know the way by heart and don't need Flash anymore :D However, I also found the foes extremely hard. Especially with Charmander. But I even had problems witch Squirtle and Bulbasaur so I usually hated going through it. |
Rock Tunnel and Victory Road.
Victory Road before I found the magic of REPEL |
Nothing really~
Back in the day, I had a guide. A very odd guide, for how it was written (Not published by Nintendo), and that it had a cow-like Fakemon on the front with some strange girl.. I wonder if i could find that guide someone where on the internet. :/ But yeah, it taught me everything I need to know~ Wouldn't of gotten through Sliph Co. without it! XD But I guess if something did annoy me, it was Sabrina's Gym. Annoying puzzle, plus her Pokemon were insanely strong. |

All the caves, safari zone, but also going through the whole of the Pokemon Tower right up to the Marowak without a Silph Scope, especially with the freaky music. I hated it then, but I kinda like it now. The GS remix is awesome. Oh, and that last guy in Viridian Forest thats impossible to avoid, and when I played it back then I didn't know about Antidote so half my Pokes' would be dead!
When I first played through Red Version, I hated Mt. Moon. I don't know why I found it so difficult, but I lost against the Hiker standing in front of the correct ladder/staircase to move on, and then I was convinced there was no way through (it didn't occur to me to go back and try again). I actually restarted my initial save because of that, thinking that I was supposed to go to the Hall of Fame entrance and not wanting to backtrack.
I also have always found the Hall of Fame entrance annoying. Sticking a large building that you can't get through right at the beginning of the game isn't a nice thing to do to young kids. Additionally, the first guard's dialogue about needing a badge was misleading when I first played through, as I thought that the entire path would open up as soon as I got the BoulderBadge (only to discover that I needed yet another badge after getting past the first guard...). I also disliked the Seafoam Islands. I saved in the middle and got stuck in them the first time I tried to go through them (didn't bring the right HM users), and attempted to stumble around in circles using up all of my PP until I Struggled myself to death. I fortunately found the exit in the meantime, but the whole experience was not fun. I supposed I learned two things from it, though: (1) never enter a cave without an Escape Rope and (2) never save in the middle of a cave unless you know how to get to the exit. Fortunately, none of these things are particularly annoying anymore, but as an eight-year-old or so, I found them very frustrating. |
Simply the elite four pwning me on my first 6 trys I mean what the heck I'm being pwned by people like my grandmother no offense people.
Rocket Hideout, it was confusing which pissed me off.
Snorlax
Always ALWAYS in the way for our great adventure! Man, wasted a big part of my life until i found the Flute (was like 6-7, couldn't read and definitely couldn't english since i am a swede) so it took me weeks until i found Giovanni and the Silph Scope. SS Anne was hard, didn't knew that i could heal myself -.- Rock Tunnel cause i didn't use flash in it, even tough i had flash |
Probably the part in Mt. moon. Going through the caves while battling Team Rocket was boring.
The caves really annoyed me, especially Mt. Moon & the one on Victory Road.
Hate the part were you go to the cave that you have to use flash and victory road to elite four.
Quote:
I remember when I first had blue, I didn't even have to use flash... |
Rock Tunnel
I spent 2 weeks in that stupid cave on my acctual GBA, and a week with my VBA. I didnt have flash, and I always ran into stupid geodudes, and I got my Squirtle from level 12, to level 34 within the two weeks, fighting stupid geodudes. After a few days, I just gave up on running, and fought. The next gyms were easier :3 |
Long tunnels full of Zubats like alot of posters here, still, I miss R/B/Y now :(
Ok, Rock Tunnel. I hate it. Also, what's everyone so confuzzled about Rocket Hideout and Silph Co.? It was hella easy the 1s time running through. OK, I admit the elevator was a bit annoying to find out how to work the elevator in Rocket.
I don't remember ever having much trouble with Rock Tunnel, or Mount Moon, but my lord, did I hate Victory Road and the Seafoam Islands.
I love the Safari Zone, but to this day, I still hate just HOW difficult it is to get Chansey, Tauros, and your bug of choice... |
When I first played R/B/Y [it was Red, I think], I found Seafoam Islands incredibly difficult for some reason. I don't even recall why, but I just remember it being frustrating. Victory Road was annoying, too. :(

I think everyone can agree with me when I say that Rock tunnel was a pain to get through.
1. I didn't know how to get Flash, or what purpose it had. 2. I didn't know the way out, so if any of my teammates fainted, I would have to wait until I got out. There you go, Rock Tunnel drove me crazy. |
Silph Co. isn't hard at all. You just need patience. I beat LeafGreen when I was 8 years old.
I'm 12 now. The thing that annoyed me is everything with Zubats and Tentacools. I hate them. I just use repels when entering caves and surfing the sea. In yellow... Pikachu is weak against rock.... always training caterpie... |
The Part in the game that annoyed me the most in Pokemon RBYG was the fact that I really wanted to go into Saffron City but I couldn't because the guards was thirsty and I felt that wasn't my problem to give them water
:t354:TG |
I learned soo much form my first journey of Kanto on Blue
- I hate Zubats and tentacools that relentlessly jump out at you - If a tunnels pitch black then it means you should find and use flash, Took me forever to get through it not knowing Flash even existed.. o_O - Lt Surges Switches ¬_¬ - Wasting a master ball on Articuno thinking it was the dogs danglys - The strain of trying to catch a Mewtwo without said Master ball - Lorelei's Lapras on the first ever playthrough seemed invincible! |
Missingno Glitch when somebody told me to do it. Screw me up...
Also the Rocket Hideout and Cycling Road as previously stated. |
For me it was either getting owned by Brock like 40 times in yellow or the excessive amount of Zubat and Tentacool you run into throughout the games.
Rock Tunnel, Pokemon Tower, and Victory Road. encounters and trainer battles are all annoying.
Silph Co. without a doubt. Back when I didn't know how to get through the place, I'd just try every single warp panel hoping to get lucky.
I hate Rock Tunnel and Victory Road in R/B/Y. I used to dread going in there because it took like an hour to get out.

Quote:
It was so infuriating and I couldn't believe how slowly you moved around. -.- Other than that, I remember discovering that cheat about Missingno and exploiting it to the fullest. It was fun for a while, then I realised that cheating wasn't the way to go and it got boring. XD |
I hated the Rocket Hideout...
The spinning, the music, EVERYTHING. Also, trying to go through Mt. Moon/Rock Tunnel without repels... That was a pain in the butt. |
For me it'd probably be the tons of Zubat and Tentacool you run into. Either that or getting through the Rock Tunnel without the HM for Flash(because I never have room for an HM slave).
ELITE FOUR
..TOOK ME SIX YEARS TO BEAT! Darn, LANCE AND RIVAL |
Either the Safari Zone or Victory Road... it took me forever to figure out how to get out of Victory Road and the Safari Zone method of catching Pokemon is just infuriating.
For me it was the Missingno. glitch. When I found it the purpose to play the game instantly evaporated because training your Pokemon was pointless when you have infinite Rare Candies.
Surge and his fake difficulty nonsense trashcans. The battle is by far the easiest gym leader battle in the game, maybe even in the entire series, and how do they try to make up for that in "difficulty"? By putting him behind a door and making opening said door almost as tedious as playing Desert Bus.
I hate that part in the pokemon maison!
The Caves...I, still to this day, hate caves in any kind of Pokemon game. It seems like every two steps you take, some wild Pokemon attacks...:pokeball:
For me it was getting Surf for the first time. I eventually gave up and made my older brother do it.
Caves with Zubat/Golbat definitely!! every 5 steps it appears!!
I got lost in every cave but I didn't mind that.
I just minded when I'd bump into that damn Moltres in Victory Road all the time. EVERY TIME I SAW HIM I COULD SWEAR HE WAS TAUNTING ME FOR MY FAILURE. "Wha-? Moltres? Didn't I just see you?" "Phww, go back to ZUBATville or GEODUDEland, N00B! HAHAHAA!" |
The Pokemon with the move that can damage you over time without giving you a chance to attack, such as Wrap, Bind, and Fire Spin.
Example: Enemy Ekans used Wrap! Enemy Ekans's attack continues! Enemy Ekans's attack continues! and so on.... Seriously! Who ever uses those moves in Gen 1 are dirty fighters. |
Caves. Every goddamn cave or tunnel or what have you. Getting lost combined with a stupid zubat popping up every time, it was a nightmare.
-Having to train my pokes 15(minimum) levels since the Erika battle, to fight Koga (Yellow) -CAVES! (R/B/Y) -Those darn Tentacools/Zubats (R/B/Y)
The caves were extremely annoying to me. I still get lost in Gen IV caves, and this was Gen I, where the horribad graphics sort of overruled the HM Flash. Other than that, Koga was way overpowered for the Gym Leader and it required excess grinding, to gain a victory against him.
Well... tbh when I was four and playing these games, I kinda couldn't figure out that the carpets were how to leave your house. >:< So I guess that was annoying for the first week or so when I kept playing with things inside my house and I couldn't leave. :(
Also really annoying like other people said were Surfing (TENTACOOLS, TENTACOOLS EVERYWHERE) and Surge's Gym and Sabrina's Gym. I actually never ended up fighting Koga at the right time - I think I always ended up beating Sabrina first, so he was ridiculously easy. Either that or I was overtrained or something, idk lol. |
The caves. Every time I took a step, BAM, there was a Zubat. And they kept coming and coming, I couldn't escape, they just kept coming. ToT
And the truck along the SS Anne. It annoyed me not knowing why it was there or what was it hiding. =/ |
Annoy
Obviously the Game Corner and the Rocket Hideout, I was so glad when I had the intel that throwing a Poke Doll at Ghost did the same as having the Siplh Co. :D
Getting thru rock Tunnel WITH NO FLASH. Seriously bad move and filler for moveset. For only the few caves to use it, Flash was deemed useless and too out of the way to be worth my time.
Volume turned to ON, battleanimation ON, and Arbok used SCREECH. |
the fact that SS ANNE leaves right after you beat gary
i wasnt done exploring WTF!!! how was i supposed to know where gary ambushes me |
The lack of running shoes. I started playing in the beginning, but it became hard for me to play RBGYGSC after I played Emerald.
Getting that fat Snorlax outta the way -.- I hate that part. As well as getting the people to let you through the gates and you had to get them tea or whatever.
The most annoying things for me were trying to figure out Silph Co and the Zubat popping up every other step in a cave. So ANNOYING!!!

The hardest parts for me as a kid was
Cinabar Manshion: never used repels as a kid. Actually never bought ANYTHING. Getting that sercret key was a pain in the arse. Catching Ditto: Yes you read that correctly this little bugger wasted 24 of ULTRA BALLS AND MY 1 MASTER BALL!!! (I threw the master ball by accident when i was just pressing a to row ultra balls) Rock Tunnel: I remember getting trough it for the first time after 2 hrs. Didn't use Flash. When I got out my Gameboy ran out of battery. Hadn't saved since from the begining of Rock Tunnel. Victory Road: When I was a little kid I didn't know how to solve the first puzzle in victory road so I never made it to the Elite four. Even to this day... |
Rock tunnel. Rock tunnel. Rock tunnel. I hated that place, what with Flash taking up a space in my Pokémons move set and then the stupid Zubats.
The saffron guards. They are so thirsty that they won't let me go to Saffron City!
I hate you, Tentacool O_O
The Seafoam Islands have the most annoying riddles in every Pokémon game! :S
