I hated how slow the game was. :P
Took way to long to get anywhere, even with a bike. I also hated the Rocket Hideout. Too much spinning. :P And catching a Nidoran♂ and raising it up in that one little patch of grass just to fight Brock was SO annoying in Yellow. |

Yeah, I made it through the Rock Tunnel without Flash too. I was a stupid little kid who didn't talk to NPCs or read a lot of the text, so I had no idea that I needed to use Flash. I was on a plane for about 4 hours, and it actually took almost the whole flight to get through that place.
For me it was always Mount Moon (until I remembered Rocktunnel and getting through it w/out flash!) and definitely the super confusing Silph Co. Also, I hated how insanely hard it was to get through SEAFOAM ISLANDS.
Oh, and grinding a Caterpie to kill brock was a super annoying part! |
Hahhaa... well
When I got to the first town and couldn't figure out how to get to the gym leader or get to the next town. I don't know why that was so hard |
The part that most annoyed me is that I really wanted a Houndoom for the Elite Four, and then I realized that I couldn't get one until I beat the elite four. Also, none of my friends had gotten that far, so they couldn't trade me one. However, I ended up training an Arcanine that I really liked, and I ended up catching a Houndour and being very disappointed with my Houndoom's stats. :/
Battling a Bellsprout/Ekans with Wrap.... You can't land a freaking attack and it just does damage EVERY turn you try... only for them to let go and then have the first move to use Wrap AGAIN -_-
The two things that annoyed me were: Lt. Surge's Gym and the slowpoke/butterfree trainers.
Lt. Surge's gym was just stupidly long. I know I once spent a solid 5 minutes looking for that damned switch combo. The trainer above Nugget Bridge had a Slowpoke that was a lot stronger than it needed to be imo. Same goes for the Butterfree trainer in between Saffron and Vermillion. |
The fact that HM05 (Flash) wasn't where it should be, and thus I had to go through Rock Tunnel without any lighting. I'm actually still in there, trying to find a way out. -_-"
Lucky me. In my 100+ playthroughs of Red, Blue, and Yellow, I've memorized the path as well as every pokemon belonging to every trainer in the game, and every item
Cycling Road was quite annoying especially trying to track back up hill. Also if your Pokemon got a status effect such as poison or what not you would drain their health so fast. Another thing that was quite annoying was trying to catch legendary Pokemon with anything other then a master ball. This of course is the same in all Pokemon games but back then i remember stressing over which Pokemon to save the master ball on. Mewtwo, The legendary birds, or a few other harder to obtain Pokemon.
I absolutely couldn't stand the fact that you could only get Farfetch'd through trade. Because I like to level my Pokemon evenly and level them to the point where they destroy the gym leader I'm about to face and the stupid Farfetch'd would always start disobeying me. So annoying :I.
A few things bugged the hell outta me back in my Blue/Yellow days...
When you're in Victory Road, right? And you have to use strength to move the boulders into the correct spots..and every 2-3 steps a freaking Machop or Onix would appear...lawwwwwl and that was BEFORE N64 released Pokemon Stadium lmao! Go-go slow-mo gameboy, clunk..of..oldschool sweetness -.- Another thing was with the Missingno trick. My friend did the trick for me on my game, and almost half of my pokemon turned into Rhydon...like I needed another 50 of em in the game lmfao. |
Now take aaaaaaaaaall the s*** that everyone mentioned, and do it all...
With only. Magikarp. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ :t129: щ(゚Д゚щ) |
The caves. The damn caves. I hate you Zubat. I hate you so much.
The fact that 80% of time you ran out of item space and had to get rid of some, and some useless HMs and Key Items wouldn't go away, just lovely
Quote:
... and finding out about HM Flash AFTER going through rock tunnel :/ Oh yeah, and the fact that you couldn't forget TM's, so you're stuck with Cut and Flash for the entire game |
Hmmm let's see, changing boxes after they fill up, no running, no walking behind buildings. :3
Everything annoyed me in this game lol.
...
Trying to evolve a Magicarp or Abra... And caves. Caves sucked so much. |
wrap. or bind any of those attack that made you useless for 5 rounds...
in Yellow, having to defeat Brock.
serious pain in the ass. |
Quote:
I also don't like the limited number of items you can store in both your bag and PC. It's annoying that key items especially ones that you only use once can make your bag full. |
Not being able to press A on a bush, rock, or water and be asked if I want to cut/strength/surf, and instead having to go into the menu each time.
Not being able to run. When I first got pokemon Blue, I didn't think about it really, but after playing a lot of the newer games, especially HeartGold where you could just set it to always run. Now that I am replaying pokemon Blue through an emulator on my iPod, it really bugs me that I cant run at all.
Some of the broken moves (WRAP!) and Articuno. Thing was a bugger to reach and an even tougher bugger to catch. Took me a good number of attempts to get it caught.
Also, the small bag with everything in the one pocket. That thing got annoying to navigate very quickly! |
legendaries....
you missed the pokemon you missed the pokemon!!!
ITS SO ANNOYING CUZ I HAVE SPENT like 50 ULTRA 10 GREAT and 16 POKE BALLS JUST TO CATCH A LEVEL 7 MEW WITH A VERY LOW HP!!! |
The fact that there weren't any convenient fighting type moves in that game, (unless you had Hitmonlee), or bug type moves in those games always really annoyed me. Especially when they incorporated a bunch of cool moves of those types in newer games.
The cave to Lavender town. The first time I played through the game, I didn't get Flash, and I went through the cave without flash.
...that's pretty impressive, though, thinking about it... XD |
For me it was seafoam islands, i couldnt do them back them and i still to this day havent got from one island to the other.
I despise having to rescue Silph from Team Rocket in Saffron City. I always forget how to get the stupid Lift Key, and there are so many useful items. But my pack is usually filled up by the time I enter the building.
In Yellow, Brock annoyed me.
He annoyed me so much, that I traded my game for Mystery Dungeon. |
Kinda of topic but I forgot to say this a few days ago, Happy 1 year anniversary to the thread. xD
wat annoies me is that u dont get fly eairly thast a good thing i have the good old trading cord and still works =P
Catching a friggin' Chansey was always a pain in the butt.
Not only was it extremely rare, you couldn't battle it with pokemon, it would flee after one turn, and half the time the dang safari ball would miss it anyway. I never caught one in the original games, my first Chansey was in Silver I believe. Others: - beating Brock with Charmander/Pikachu - Rock Tunnel without Flash - trying to catch Mewtwo after using the Masterball on something inconsequential - Seafoam Islands puzzle - Not being able to fly straight to the entrance of Victory Road if you faint inside - S.S. Anne sailing away forever - 9999 coins for Porygon, I mean wtf |
I couldn't catch Misingno.
Not being able to surf directly to Cinnabar from Fucasia.
Mt. Moon. No questions asked. GO AWAY YOU STUPID ZUBATS. ;; I've always had a deep hatred for Mt. Moon as my beloved Pikachu was brutally killed there by a rouge Geodude on my first ever run through on Yellow. This actually made me cry. (I was like 6 btw xD) But yeah, I've always hated Mt. Moon because it's such a long drawn out place with nothing interesting inside of it bar a fossil and I think you have to waste a space on having Flash and you get constantly assaulted by Zubats and ugh! Not a happy place for me. x]
Not sure, its been a while since I last played them...
Although, after being harassed by warps for a while then being forced to fight my rival for no real reason was kinda annoying. |
Mt. Moon + Zubats = Annoyance
Digletts Cave + Digletts = Annoyance But if you add them with Repels, you're all set. |
On Pokemon Yellow I always struggled with the gym fight against Sabrina, if it wasn't getting to her it was always my poorly levelled team, so glad I have grown wiser since then! xD
Mt. Moon and endless Zubat hordes, Sabrina's Gym, as well as trying to navigate through Rock Tunnel without flash. -_-
Brock! Truly annoying Onix in yellow.
Also, the water route connecting Pallet- Cinnabar- Seafoam Islands- Fuchsia. I always hate water routes. |
1. Rock Tunnel. Oh my God, that thing sucks. I wish I could just through it without HAVING to worry about catching ten different Pokemon and then having to travel all the way through Diglett Cave just to get Flash, travel all the way back, and then have to find a Pokemon to learn Flash, teach it to it, and etc etc rant rant blah blah. It just sucks, period.
2. The route connecting Lavender Town to Fushia Cit. man that thing is annoying. Trainers every two and a half steps, and if you're using an emulator with hyper speed, it's even more annoying. 3. Victory Road. Stupid.strength. I hate moving those boulders onto those switches. it's ridiculous. Plus you get a wild Pokemon every step while pushing it that you can't run away from which makes it even MORE fun. |
Yellow...
was so... ssssslllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww.... Even after the bike. :P |
Silph Co and the Pokemon Mansion? (house on Cinnabar Island) Those seemed to take too long for me.
Quote:
For me originally was the difficulty of the game, especially Yellow. I was only around 7-8 playing this game. I found it to be hard, but I never gave up. I just tried again.
It would have to be:
3) The Pokemon Mansion 2) Silph Co. 1) Seafoam Islands I have terrible, terrible memories of trying to get to Articuno, even with a guide. (Fail) |
Honestly, the storage system and how it worked was very annoying to me. It's so much more convenient nowadays.
Getting into a fight with 1 pokemon left, winning that fight but your poisoned and your advancing to the next town, a pokemon center in sight and your last pokemon faints and you go all the way back to the last town.
Definitely Silph Co. I somehow felt obligated to fight every Team Rocket member there, so I would quite literally wander around for hours just to confirm that I did.

Mt. Moon, Seafoam Islands, The Safari Zone and The Unknown Dungeon. Seriously, I've played RBY dozens of times and I still manage to get lost. Naturally, I'm always all, "I've played through this game so many times, I won't get lost. I don't need to look at the guide", and then twenty minutes later, "I'm lost forever!"
The PC due to it being a pain to use. I wasn't use to it anymore after I played the newer games. Rock Tunnel comes second.
Rock Tunnel. Basically because the first time I played I didn't know about the flash HM and I had to go through it without seeing a thing lol
Rock Tunnel, the Storage System, and particularly Fuschia City's Gym for me. Particularly the Gym though due to how underleveled I was at the time not to mention I was going through Antidotes faster than a fat man goes through toilet paper after 10 bowls of chili.
The unstableness of the game. Shutting off while it's saving tends to lead to some really weird things. :| By accident, obviously. (Okay, the first time) It's annoying how it can be so unstable, but it's better than crashing.
Wait, I have to choose something from the game? Storage Boxes. Hate them. |
I think everyone agrees upon Rock Tunnel.Besides that, I'd say the only thing I think the game could have improved on was the general flow. There are many moments where the player has to guess where to go and what to do, and many times younger children get stuck (This is why I think most non-veterans refuse to play these games). A prime example would be the guards posted around Saffron City. The soda machines? Really? Come on, guys.
The part with Sliph. Co. The teleporting floor tiles was really annoying and all the battles were overwhelming.
Silph Co. is really annoying but eventually I got the hang of it and for the most part I know how to get to Gary after I battle Team Rocket; ALL OF THEM!
In Yellow particularly Pikachu not being able to evolve, that really annoyed me. Then legendaries were really annoying by destroying my team. |
Rock Tunnel because I was too lazy to get Flash, and Silph Co because who honestly enjoyed the Team Rocket interventions? :c
Pretty much any cave with Zubats (...all caves.).
Bind, wrap, they pissed me off. In pokemon stadium lance would honestly beat me just because his dragonite would spam wrap until I was done.
I remember being far too lazy to bother catching enough Pokemon to score that Flash TM, so every time I went through Rock Tunnel, I walked the entire thing in the pitch black, walking into walls and wild pokemon every step of the way. Didn't help that the first five or six runthroughs were done on a GBC.

The thing that really annoyed me in the first generation games was Mt. Moon and the part where you had to battle bunch of trainers to see Bill, and a Victory Road, always pain in a butt. /:
Pokemon Mansion because every single step has a chance of having wild Pokemon.
OMG I HATED WRAP AND BIND! I'd completely forgotten they'd existed until reading this thread and now I'm filled with rage at their mere mention. Rock Tunnel and Silph Co and all those tunnels were fine for me, because I had a strategy guide, but if some evil critter decides to Wrap your Pokemon, there's no way you're getting out of that mofo! Grr...
Quote:
So, to answer the original question: - Mt. Moon was horrible because the constant Zubats. - Rock Tunnel was horrible because I never got Flash. - Fuschia City gym was horrible because there's a very steep level curve between his gym and the rest of the world. None of my Pokemon had even hit 40 yet and he had a level 50 Venomoth. D: |
Anyone find how your bag worked annoying? :)
Silph Co. - And Sabrina's gym for that matter. The moving and teleporting titles got annoying and confusing.
Fuchsia Gym- The invisible walls always threw me making me spend a long time to get to Koga. And in Yellow where is Pokemon are overleveled compared to Erica's who had levle 30 Pokemon. Then Koga has Pokemon 48-50? Completely unfair. The music in Lavender Town in general annoyed me, I hated going through there. |
Quote:
I hate the bag so much, it's not even funny. Stupid item limit. |
Quote:
I agree with this. Many times I raged when I first played this game because I kept forgetting where I was going. |
Victory road. Because at that time i just wanted to fight the elite 4 without first getting lost a million times in a cave full of machokes and geodudes.
Quote:
This. Silph Co. was the BANE of my existence. I actually had a period where I quit playing because it was so difficult. |
silph co. and victory road were my most hated areas lol. and when the screen went funny when your Pokemon got poisoned, i thought it was because my batteries were dying ahahah :D
Playing it after a long break, the thing that annoys me is that it had no post-game. Once you beat the E4, that's it. I mean, it's not like that's a MAJOR complaint, seeing as it was, after all, the FIRST generation, but still, playing it after playing even Gen II leaves me feeling somewhat unsatisfied.
The whole part of going back and forth between Lavender Town, Celadon City and Saffron City (that includes Rocket Hideout, Silph and Co and the Pokémon Tower). I wanted to continue my journey and go explore the Pokémon world further. The dark cave before Lavender Town was just the introduction of a part in the game I didn't like that much. |D
Also Victory Road could be done a bit differently. |
I always hated the dark cave, mostly because I didn't want to have any of my Pokemon use flash.
For me the thing that bugged me the most was the lack of an EXP progress bar. i would always find myself groaning when i had to go to the stat screen to check the EXP to the next level.
For me, it was Seafoam Islands. All it was for me is go in menu, Strength, push boulder to hole, random encounter, go down hole, rinse, and repeat. It gets even more annoying when you accidentally fall down a hole and you have to find your way back to the place you were pushing the boulder. Worst. Dungeon. EVER.
"Wait, there is a shorter route to Cinnabar Island from Pallet Town? So that dungeon was pointless? FUUUUUUUUUUU |
The zubats in the cave. Hands down -o-
Quote:
For me it was always Snorlax. I am find with being halted due to not unlocking something, but missing entire regions of the game because of a sleeping Pokemon? I would have much father just had a dock that was missing, and I needed Surf to get over it, or Large rocks I had to push out of the way. Not a single large Pokemon stopping me from accessing an entire Gym, multiple side quests, the Safari Zone, and numerous other things.
I hated any point in the game where you had to use an HM, because you always had to go the menu screen to use it. Same thing with the bicycle. I had a guide, so the actual areas weren't difficult for me~ Just took a long time.
Having to open the menu screen for using HMs moves and other key items, as well as having limited storage in your PC for items. I liked to store all my TMs and more powerful healing items and such in my PC until I got to the elite four, when I would then use them, and often times I had to use them sooner because I never had enough space.
Everything, RBY all had incredibly broken combat system. From one Sand-Attack making you miss for the next twelve rounds (if you survived that long... >.>) to Slash and Razor Leaf being 100% chance critical ratio, it was all messed up.
Great to see I'm not the only one who hated going to the menu screen to use HMs x) & I really hated the dark cave between Cerulean City & Lavender Town.
For the longest time, I didn't know about the item storage feature at the PCs.
I threw away the majority of battle items and TMs because my bag was filled with Key Items. I felt dumb when I decided to explore the PC and saw "Item Storage System" there. -_-' |
Rock Tunnel by far...
Going through that thing, remembering you don't have flash, decide to not go back and get it and then go through the whole thing without it... Well that or Pokemon Mansion...that is just confusing, the first time through. |

Sabrina's gym! To this very day I don't know the exact way to get to her. I just go from teleporter to teleporter hoping I'll find her lol.
Waterfall only learned by Goldeen and Seaking without transfer between Johto games. Not that its better than Surf. Just unfortunate.
IN game users of Sand-Attack. |
The Silph Co. was a huge pain for me when I first played the games. I had no clue where to go and I was constantly getting sidetracked with all the extra training I had to go through with the Team Rocket grunts.
Wrap (And all similar moves), definitely Wrap. Though this was a greater issue in Stadium.
Quote:
I remember when my CHARMELEON was almost KO'd by a frikken VICTREEBEL... |
Rock Tunnel, making it nearly all the way to the end, then dying right before the exit.
i really hate the caves theres zubat everywhere and you cant move very well and some you need flash and i dont like wasting an attack spot on flash....
Same with the person above, I hated the caves. Especially the one you needed flash for, I never would get flash and I memorized that stupid cave so I wouldn't have to use flash lol
