GCSE/ HKCEE/ anything equivilant...
Have you done your GCSE/ HKCEE or any equivilent public exams yet? Or...are you having it soon? o_O|||
What subjects did/will you take? ---------------------------------------------- How many of you are actually taking these public exams at 2005 June? |
a levels a level crap its harder
|
I'm taking my GCSEs next year, and they consist of:
English Language | English Literature | Mathematics | Science (Double Award) | Religous Education | French | ICT | Music | Electronic Products... and I think that's it. ^_^ I have to do half my RE exam this year though... which seems a bit soon. On a happier note, I got A*s in my English Lit and Music coursework. ^_^ |
what catdog ur gonna do good anway im doing
graphics math mechanics physics computing all 4 a levels so i dont do retakes |

Mine's this June @@||| I'm doing: English language English Literature Mathermatics Science (Sep award) Art Design Technology Geography |
err jynx they used to make people do 13 lol anyway someone in my class did 14 and got all A* that smart ****
|
Yeah - my cousin had to do 10 last year... even though his highest mark was a C. I thought 8 was quite small to be honest. (Even though you get 10 grades out of it ith English + Science giving 2 each). I'm predicted all A*s, although I'll probably end up getting all Cs or something. *Sigh*
|
Oh no! That means that my school is a bad one then! THe most we can do is 10!! o_O|||
I'm not feeling that confident now... Worse still, I got my grade8 piano exam tomorrow... |
<Off topic> OMG I feel so sorry for you. I thought my Grade 5 was bad (I can't be bothered with Theory), but a Grade 8! Well, good luck on that one. ^_^</Off topic>
I don't think it matters how many GCSEs you do. If you go into further education, all you need is 3 A-Levels to get into University, and then a degree and so on and so forth... |
Quote:
For maths, are you doing General Tier or Higher Tier? I'm doing Higher Tier for all my stuff... |
You mean like exams to enter highschool? Well, at my state in america we didn't have any... Or am I mistaken? o.o;
|

Hong Kong and UK doesn't have that! I'm talking about the thingy you do about 5th year in your high school. I think the USA one is called ITCA? Can't remember... Anyway, you've heard of A-levels ya? GCSE/HKCEE is the big public exam before AS and A-level. Basically, in UK, you do GCSE at 5th form, AS level in 6th form, and A-levels in 7th form, then you go to university. |
All Higher Tier exams. You can't get those A*s without them XD *Watches head inflate massively*
|
In Victoria, Australia, we only have these public exams at the end of year 12 - they are called the VCE. I took them last month, in English, German, Specialist Maths (highest level), Physics and Chemistry, as well as university maths. Last year I took Maths Methods, which is regular-level maths. My results for the VCE subjects are out next week, but for my uni maths I got H1 (which is first-class honours).

If I don't count Cantonese, I do nine subject, because 3 of them are seperate science. I got A* for Cantonese by the way... |
yeah, I have to admit I have no idea what you guys are talking about ^^;;
erm... are you talking about standardized testing? it must be different for each state, because I've never even heard of those... here in Texas we take the TAKS test, which just has math, social studies, science, and english/writing... o_o except I'm not sure I'm even on the same wavelength as you guys cause I don't know what the GHSCYSAEROLFSADF-whatever is. XD |
I'm not going to do them for now.. I think in June 2006 :)

I think that could be a bit misleading Jynx. American High-Schools start at Year 10... I'll explain:
2nd year of US High School everyone in the UK sits their GCSEs. It's basically a public examination that will go on your Resume/C.V when you want to get a job. Everyone takes English, Maths and Science. The other subjects are decided by the School and the person taking them. It's a two year course on each of the courses with a final exam in 2nd year of High School, 5th form or Year 11. In the 3rd year of High School (Lower 6th/Year 12), this is optional, but you can take AS Levels, where you choose at least 4 sujects to specialise further in detail. This is a one year course with an exam at the end of 3rd year in High School/Lower 6th/Year 12. In the 4th year of High School (Upper 6th/you get the drift XD), again optional, you take your A2 (or just A-Levels). You choose at least 3 subjects to specialise in detail. This is another one year course with an exam at end of 4th High School year/Upper 6th/Year 13. It sounds like 'The 12 days of Christmas' XD "In the 5th year of High School my true love gave to me XD |
i'm taking mine next year (around May-ish 2005)
i still got alot of coursework (projects to be fair on people that don't do well on exams) to finish as i moved school after year 10 meaning i had to start some of them again as they're different exam boards :( . I'm taking : 1.Mathematics - 1 GCSE 2.English language - 1 GCSE 3.English literature - 1 GCSE 4.Science (double award) - 2 GCSEs 5.Religous education [R.E] (full course) - 1 GCSE 6.Drama - 1 GCSE 7.Art - 1 GCSE 8.Ict (applied option) - 2 GCSEs = 10 GCSEs i'm taking my mocks (pre-exams to show what grade your at) at the moment so i'm on study leave. I hate exams in the morning i'm never awake to think properly!!! HELP!!! :dead: america's 4th year in high school = college for UK people (taking AS or A2)... [UK] we take what ever subjects we want (depending what job you want to get into) spend around 2-4 years there and then university.... |

Sorry for misleading. |
Quote:
but yeah, thanks Mr Cat Dog, your explanation helped a lot. what do the letters themselves actually stand for...? |
Quote:
I think HKCEE stands for Hong Kong Certificate Educational Exam... I think. |
GCSE = General Certificate of Secondary Education
In UK, schools are mainly divided up into two tiers. Primary School goes from 4-11 and Secondary goes from 11-16. Some Secondary schools go to 18, but that's whn you do your A-Levels like I mentioned before. ^_^ |
Quote:
PS: 4-11 <--age? |
I have already done three of my G.C.S.E's and will be doing the rest in June 2005.
DONE! English Literature | Religous Education (first half of Course) | Mathematics DOING IN 2005 English Language | Science (Tripple Award) | I.C.T | Religous Education (second half of Course) | Geography | Graphics & Design | Welsh (Full Course) | P.E (short Course) |
I'm doing haf of my RE this year... but that's the only one that I'm doing. How did you do yours a year early?
And 4-11 is age, yes. ^_^ |
How come you can do halves?
My school does not have this service... |

Quote:
I did my English, R.E & Maths G.C.S.E's when I was in year 10. |
Did you do your RE on the Edexcel course? As that's what I'm doing mine on.
And you must be like mega smart to do Eng Lit and Maths in Year 10. Wow XD |

Quote:
The Literature exam was fairly easy, its the language which is the hard part. I had mock Language tests last Wednesday and Thursday and I found it hard to finish the paper in the time limit. |
Well...
my sciences are AQA, Geography, Maths, English are OCR Art is Edexcel Dont know about DT |
English, Science, French, Electronic Products - AQA
RE, Mathematics, Music - Edexcel ICT - OCR Those are my exam boards. ^_^ |
Quote:
They only have one board in Hong Kong... |
They all offer difference syllabusses. Take example Mathematics:
Edexcel courses may offer Simultaneous Equations, but not 3D Trigonometry, whilst the AQA may offer the opposite. The same goes for the other courses. Music is very diverse for example... and our class have had long lectures about how Edexcel is the right course and all that XD |
Aww GCSEs *sighs* i remember those ^^ feels like such a long time ago now
