Thanks for the help. Kind of sounds like cheating to me though.

It's considered legit in mostly every circle, but you're free not to use it if you don't feel right (: I don't personally RNG myself, I just know a lot about it.

Alred13 June 2nd, 2011 5:09 PM

So are all these things disputed as cheating; Soft Resetting, RNG, IV's, and EV's?

None of those are. I feel weird about RNGing myself, but it's considered a legitimate way to get good Pokemon. IVs, EVs, and soft resetting are most certainly not cheating.

Alred13 June 2nd, 2011 5:18 PM

How can it not be considered cheating if EV's and IV's are hidden, and with RNG you're doing the same thing an outside source could do, like action replay, just in a more time consuming and less expensive way?

EVs and IVs are considered a game mechanic, and you can calculate them without modifying any code whatsoever. I personally use a calculator online to find out what my IVs are, and EVs I do by hand. RNGing is also just abusing ingame mechanics. An AR actually changes the code within the game, which is why it's considered cheating. However, there are a few AR codes which people generally accept that don't change the code at all, like the IV/EV checker codes.

Well since we're on the subject. What are IV's and EV's and how how do I find out what my pokemon has?

I feel like that's something you randomly see on a TV, but I can't be positive.

so Is there no ways to find out Ivs from pokemon I just hatched? Sorry Metalkid's calculator is kind of confusing XD

You need to level it up substantially before the calculator is even nearly accurate. Make sure it doesn't get any EVs though (that is, use Rare Candies). You could also hack the game's coding to find out, but that's generally frowned upon for some reason.

Confirmed. However, the chances of getting that specific statistic is very inconsistent. I think the show is called "Your Pokemon," and all they do is tell you useless facts like how many trainers you've battled, how many times you've fled, etc.

Though, I do wonder how they know that information anyway.

If you don't mind having to save and perhaps losing Battle Subway progress, chuck them into a Subway line. (Use this on the regular lines after you unlock Super Trains for progress safety.)

It'll autolevel your Pokémon. After that, chuck in the numbers and let your IV calculator do its thing.

These days, IV calculators are relatively straightforward - in fact, a lot of stuff are entirely optional. With autolevelling to Level 50, you should be able to safely input stat values directly. You don't have to bother with anything else other than species.

The Dream World is found on the global link site from www.pokemon.com. Basically, it allows you to upload your save file into a "dream state" where your Pokemon can befriend other Pokemon to meet during actual gameplay. You can also get berries and play mini-games there. :3

So I got this Eevee from GTS and I didn't even know it's moves. Then today I noticed on one of the trading threads that one of the guys had Noted Specifically that he had eevee's with the move Wish, as if it was special or something, so curiously I went only and found out that several people are breeding eevees with the moves, Wish, Curse, and Yawn. and Mine has all 3 moves! How valuable is a Wish/Curse/Yawn Eevee tradewise?

Meh, they're pretty easy to come across, it mainly depends on their Iv's as well. It also depends on who wants it.

Eevee is part of the Ground Egg Group, which Smeargle is in. Therefore, it's beyond easy to get any combination of Egg Moves on Eevee, so long as you breed a female Eevee (or evolution) with a male Smeargle with those moves.

These Egg Moves, in Generation V, include Charm, Covet, Curse, Detect, Endure, Fake Tears, Flail, Natural Gift, Stored Power, Synchronoise, Tickle, Wish, and Yawn.

My current team is Krokorok, Boldore, Zebstrika, Axew, Samurott, and Simisear. My question regards Simisear. Should I keep him or box him? I evolved him really early. He is level 34 now and the only fire move he knows is incinerate. Does he learn any more fire moves?

Like most stone evolution Pokemon, Simisear ceases to learn moves after he evolves. He is allowed to learn Flame Burst (70 bP 100 ACC, recently updated Bulbapedia in regards to how the splash works in double / triple battles, if you're interested) in Mistralton City in exchange for a Heart Scale at the Move Family's House. He can also learn Flamethrower, Overheat, and Flame Charge through TM; the two former cannot be obtained before the Elite Four, while the latter is obtained pretty late in the game at the Tubeline Bridge.

This is okay because the only other worthwhile moves Pansear learned that Simisear are Yawn and Crunch.

Consider Grass Knot (TM in Pinwheel Forest), Focus Blast (TM in Wellspring Cave, after you get Surf), and Hidden Power (TM from Professor Juniper after seeing a lot of Pokemon).

Since Simisear's bATK and bSpATK are both equal, you can consider the physical moves as well. He learns Brick Break (TM in Icirrus City), Dig (TM before Nimbasa City, in the desert), Rock Tomb (TM in Resort Desert), Rock Slide (TM in Mistralton Cave), Acrobatics (TM from Skyla), and Shadow Claw (TM in Celestial Tower).

No one really knows, but let's do a little experiment. :3 A Rubik's Cube is 2.25 inches every direction. I took the cube and pasted it over and over again next to N, and it came out to around 16 of them. That means he's 36 inches tall! You're welcome.

But bad proportions aside, I would guess he's about 5'8-6'0 with a small frame, which would put him around 145-160. But then against, I could be way off.

PokéSwimmer June 4th, 2011 10:06 PM

If you defeat Reshiram/Zekrom instead of capturing it the first time, can you soft reset for a nature when you fight it again? Or is the nature set the first time you fight it?

Like every overworld Pokemon, I'm pretty sure you can.

You're using the wrong proportion. The cube is tilted in the picture, so you need to tilt it back sideways. Then, when you line them up, you get about 23 cubes worth, equal to 51.75 inches, or 4.31 feet. Since N is also extremely bent in this picture, that pushes him up to around 5 feet tall (I did calcs, but I lost them). N's angle relative to the viewer also makes the picture skewed (he's tilted away from the y-axis), bumping him a few inches, maybe 1 to 3, over 5 feet. This isn't so bad, seeing how the playable trainer doesn't fall too far from that either (based on Pokedex stats).

Everytime I try to trade with someone in wifi club, it freezes. It just says Communicating with (name)... and quits after a few minutes. I know the issue has been around for awhile, so does anyone know a quick solution? We've tried re-entering. Doesn't work. It has been working until I tried trading with this one person. I don't know if it is his connection or not, but it still doesn't seem right. Are the servers just full or what?

Erase and re-enter FCs, works sometimes.

hey i just played online in black. I had a fully trained Feraligatr with decent stats go up against a volcorona, it used overheat and OHKO'd my feraligatr as it went on to kill the rest of my team. Is this just good ev training or do you think it was a hacked pokemon?

Probably not, it was probably just EV'd/IV'd or your gator just didn't have enough ev's in special defense. Plus volcorona has really high spA STAB, and overheat has a very high base power to begin with.

If your Special Defense is at the highest possible while EV trained in defense with a helpful nature, it will do 56-65 damage to him (assuming a perfect Volcarona with a helpful nature to Sp. Atk and EV trained in it, which is reasonable). However, in the opposite case with Feraligator having lowest possible Special Defense, it would do 103-121 damage. This is assuming it doesn't have something that would raise its damage as a held item, which I don't know from what you said.

Source

I think you might have forgotten STAB.

Since this is Overheat, I'm assuming Choice Specs on Volcarona. This will do 228-269 damage with 252 EV, 31 IV, and +Nature on 0 EV, 31 IV, =Nature Feraligatr. Feraligatr with 0 EV, 31 IV, =Nature has 280 max HP. However, poor IVs can detract from this severely. If you have poor SpDEF IVs, then the damage is higher.

If the Volcarona does not have Choice Specs, it will do 153-180 damage to the same Feraligatr.

edit Sorry, I used bP 120 instead of bP 140. The damage will be higher than what I've listed.

Give us the exact stats (just HP and SpDEF) of your Feraligatr and this will be a lot clearer.

Brittani June 6th, 2011 8:12 PM

I'm a little bit confused about EV's. It says that for every 4 EV points you gain from battle, you gain one point in that stat at lvl 100. Does that mean if you earn 4 EV points (lets say defense) on a pokemon lvl below 100, no stat change will occur until your pokemon turns lvl 100? I remember EV training my other pokemon and when I got the fourth EV point, my stat would go up one point, even if the pokemon was below lvl 100. But now, I was trying to EV train my Vaporeon for someone, for defense. It's lvl 23 right now, facing lvl 10 roggenrola which gives one defense. I got 8 EV's in defense, yet it hasn't budged from it's original 37 from lvling last time(was a +1). It even has Pokerus. Does it have to lvl for changes to occur (although that wasn't the case for my other pokemon) or what? I'm really confused, as you can see. Will anyone help a poor soul out please?

Ev's will update at the end of each battle, or if the pokemon changes forms (like shaymin or giratina). When a pokemon levels, the EV's determine the +X stats they gain, so if you max out your vaporeon's def EV's (252) then every level or very close to that you'll gain +3 def, while you may or may not get +3 in def if its not maxed out.
When you have very low values of EV's the changes are quite minor, so its harder ot see the change. Plus at higher levels the changes become even more dramatic. I had a gardevoir with maxed EV's in SpA/SpD, and those stats on her were over quadruple all of her other stats at lvl 50-ish. So over time you'll see stronger values, while lower levels just don't have enough time to really show off the EV's.

Summary: lower levle pokemon only slightly show EV's in their stats, while higher levels change a ton. And ev's are calculated at the end of each battle, so you cna EV train lvl 100 pokemon.

Hmm I would recommend a fire type, perhaps litwik/lampent? That could replace your deerling is doubling up on both of his/her types.

Unless you plan on doing competitive battles, you don't really "need" to have a perfectly balanced team though. What you have is just fine for doing anything in game. :D

Why not a Herdier?

Nope, the Pokemon you send in doesn't make a difference at all, though the actions you take within the DW, aka, watering, etc, make the difference.

It...depends what you mean. This thread is where you ask questions, yes. By dream world neighbours you mean dream pals, yes? The best way to get dream pals is by (while you're in the DW) clicking "dream pal map" and clicking the name in the bottom right corner, it'll take you to their world, and then you just click dream pal request in the top corner of their world - and once they accept, they become your neighbour in a sense, easily accessible once you click on dream world map. The people you can visit are random, though.

You go to their islands and you press the chat button in the upper right. It opens up a menu that has a list of preset questions you pick from. You can't write anything, so it's kind of useless.

Of course, that's not what you meant, is it?

Sounds like it's a flash issue (or really bad Internet). Upgrade your flash player and try again, make sure you're using a browser like safari or chrome too, 'cause later firefox versions could also cause that issue.

On a fast Internet speed it goes through the numbers really quickly and on slow it doesn't, but when it loads, you'll be able to tell because it'll progress from zero. XD

Gymnotide June 8th, 2011 6:21 PM

I usually go from 0% straight to 53%, then 80-something and finally to 100%. Then it goes again for like three seconds and I'm in the Dream World.

Something I've been thinking about, is there a great desire for EV'd pokemon only because of the time it takes to grind it out? When I feel like it I can EV train any pokemon in an hour or so, which doesn't seem like that much time, though I guess I can't judge on that considering I live a very relaxed life style.

If EV training was desired because of the time investment, is there also a very high demand of EV trained pokemon? In that if I grinding out an EV trained haxorus, what would it be normal to trade it for something like a shiny furret? Would the haxorus also need to be lvl 100 to be considered EV trained?

Perhaps a simpler question is, what does it mean when someone wants an EV'd pokemon? Just maxed EV's? Or maxed EV's and maxed level? Does it depend on the person trading? And is an actual EV trained pokemon valuable in common trades? Or are they for specialty trades where you only trade EV'd pokemon for other EV'd pokemon?

And is an actual EV trained pokemon valuable in common trades? Or are they for specialty trades where you only trade EV'd pokemon for other EV'd pokemon?

When people ask for an Ev'd Pokemon, they usually expect the Ev's to be right, I.e not just any old junk and also a good movesets, most people use the competitive battling movesets from Smogon. They're not really in high demand but people just collect them. If the Pokemon is really wanted then I guess a shiny Furret could be traded for it.

So then its more of a convenience to have an EV'd pokemon that already has a moveset? Makes sense, but I was still curious to see if there was something more to it than just training them. XD Thanks.

I have recently been to the Dream World for the first time and met some older generation pokemon friends. But I only have 4 badges and I've heard that you don't get your national pokedex until you have beaten all 8 gym leaders. So what will happen if I try to import an old pokemon into the game when I don't have a pokedex that recognises it?

It shows up as a ??? number until you get the National Dex, that's all. You can still import them and use them in-game with no problems.

Is there a list of released berries in DW? Or do they all already exist but you have to collect more points?

Most have been released, including HP healing, status healing, super-effective damage reducing, EV berries, etc.

But stat up berries haven't been released yet. Nor Enigma Berries, I think.

The same way you RNG for IVs, but you switch your target to the PIDs that call for shininess.

Well, that's a problem then.
You need to install RNG Reporter on your computer.

I won't go into detail here.

RNG Reporter will tell you what seeds you need to make, so you just follow along with whatever it says. Here's the best beginner guide I've found to seeding so far: http://blazingblyde.tumblr.com/post/4545152323/blyde-rng-guide-3 This will run you through some of the basics to get IVs and Natures. Use this knowledge to alter shininess. You will get shinies by looking at the PIDRNG (not the MTIVRNG) and seeding the proper seeds.

You'll have to be more specific about what you're doing. Are the cartridges the same language? Are both of them legit, and in different DSes?

I believe Sky Drop is also banned, as well as Chatot with Chatter. If neither of those are the problem, try listing your team here and we can see where the problem is.

I'm using an emulator to play White, so I do not have access to wi-fi. However, I do have PokeSav. Does anybody know the Map ID for Liberty Garden so I can go there with PokeSav? The Map ID is the number that goes in the MAP box in the Location section of PokeSav.

I used Zebstrika and it worked out pretty well. The spider would be alright too though, ingame as long as you level it up it should work just fine.

Online rules being Nintendo rules, or Smogon rules? Either way, I know it's not considered Uber in Smogon and I'm nearly 100% certain it's not banned online by the legendary/event/hack clauses by Nintendo.

Pokemon Global Link Help?

I can't find anywhere else to put this:
I just went to the dream world today after a bit to get a guts Shinx. Then after my 6th trip to the IOD,I run around the forest and find No Pokemon(Shaking Trees)OR items(Sparkles).I've kept going and going and nothing comes.I've:
-Made a new tab
-The Traffic was Quiet.
-Kept exiting over and over(Dream World)
and still,the problem stays.Any help?

jigglyppuff8 June 12th, 2011 6:08 PM

That basically means that you are done for the day. I've heard that this is done so that people don't just spend their entire time in the dream world just entering and reentering the island of dreams. In any case, just wake up your Pokemon and wait until the next time you can enter DW. It should be fine then.

There's no finalized official ubers list in Comp-Battling as of yet, but also note that DrizzleSwim and Moody are also banned. Plus, using any Evasion+ moves or items and OHKO moves are in bad form.

No, not the hour is up. After so many sparkles and Pokemon encounters, you just don't see any more Pokemon. Usually this happens to me around 4-5 times through but it varies.

Moving this to quick questions so the actual thread isn't cluttered.

But yes - once you bypass 7500 points, a whole lot of new Pokemon and items start appearing in each area. :3 If you want to know the specifics, Bulbapedia and Serebii have it pretty well covered. Apparently the same occurs after 10,000.

Earthquake is TM26, found in Relic Castle. Flamethrower is TM35 and found in the Abundant Shrine. Both are post-game, so that could be why you haven't seen them yet. (:

I've got a few questions to ask: what place has the highest level wild pokemon? Is it better to fight the elite four to level up or should I go with hunting audino for exp. I am already done with the elite four and champion. Can you get a dream world litwick yet if not, why? Thanks.

Most places post-game cap at wild L60, I believe. Some places cap around 50 (like the Dreamyard) and 55 (I think Challenger's Cave). You can fight L70 Pokemon while surfing, but this is inconsistent because they cap on the lower end at L35. Audino is still good EXP, just because EXP yields grow with level. It's up to you. Where you get your EXP doesn't make a difference if you've EV trained, after all.

Dream World Litwick is not released yet.
Why? Because it hasn't.

Metagross can breed with Ditto, but you can also find it and its pre-evolutions in the wild. Metang and Metagross are wild in the Giant Chasm.

Okay, I have a question on the Global Link, and I don't know if it's been anwered before.

Whenever I try to go to the promotion page to get my eeveelution, it says that I have to be qualified. I have tried it with both of my accounts now, and I KNOW for a fact that I've beaten the game and got an Espeon for a reward on both accounts. At first I thought it might have been some sort of bug on the PGL, but if it was it would have been fixed by now... (right?)

Sawk is faster and hits harder than Throh does. Throh, on the other hand, is slow, but has good defenses.

IMO, I'd use Sawk because one of its abilities, Sturdy, ensures it gets an attack in before going down.

There's always a problem with my team on random wi-fi matchup?

Okay, So I've never done a random wi-fi matchup battle as it always tells me there was a problem with my pokemon and I couldn't participate. I'm not a hacker, but I am a trader. I've looked up banned moves or combinations and haven't found anything that applies to me. This is my team:

PALADIN/Lucario
Lv 100
HP 268
Atk 264
Def 158
SpAtk 361
SpDef 147
Spd 215

Steadfast
Fist Plate

Aura Sphere
Dragon Pulse
Psychic
Protect

Sinnoh
Apparently arrived at lv 100

Paladin is kinda like my mascot, I bred and raised him myself in diamond. Absolutely no idea why he wouldn't be allowed.

ARCANINE/Arcanine (shiny)
Lv 100
HP 309
Atk 288
Def 184
SpAtk 250
SpDef 199
Spd 252

Flash Fire
Sitrus Berry

Fire Blast
Thunder Fang
Extreme Speed
Iron Head

Kanto
Apparently Arrived at lv100 after a long travel through time.

He's not the strongest Pokemon but certainly one of my favourites. I got him at level 60 something I think from the Diamond GTS and I trained him up from there. Never had any problems using him on wifi, I've used him in Pokemon Battle Revolution wifi matchup with no problems at all.

LUXRAY/Luxray (shiny)

Apparently arrived at lv 100

I got luxray from the Diamond GTS as a low level shinx and then I trained him up from there. Just like Arcanine, used on wifi like PBR with no problems at all.

SWAMPERT/Swampert

SpAtk 269
SpDef 279
Spd 197

Torrent
Splash Plate

Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Avalanche
Muddy Water

Hoenn
Apparently arrived at lv 100 after a long travel through time.

I traded for swampert at lv 100 a few months ago on the serebii wifi chat and have been pleased with him ever since. He's the tank of my team backing everyone else up. He's never seen the light of wifi apart from when he was traded to me.

I traded for her at lv 100 with a random wifi trade partner on a Japanese copy of Pokemon white. I had my suspicions of whether she was hacked or not, but apparently she hatched at rt 3. She worked with a random wifi matchup on my Jap game but not my english one.

After battling so many annoying togekisses in my time, I thought if you can't beat them join them. Same situation with how I got my mienshao.

Are all of the Pokemon your's? Because some of them may have hacked EV's which my be your problem (if someone traded you a hacked Pokemon and you weren't aware, per say). I'm not familiar with what Pokemon are banned with random matchup, but if you say that they are all okay then that probably isn't your problem. I'd suggest hack checking them in the Trade Corner.

Also, just to help your team out so you can do better, I highly suggest going to the Competitive Battle Center, check out their guides (in the in-game team help subforum where it says 'A Whole New World'), and go from there to help build your team to be the best it can be. While you are at it, you should also sign up here.

Apparently arrived at lv 100 after a long travel through time.

After battling so many annoying togekisses in my time, I thought if you can't beat them join them. Same situation with how I got my mienshao.

So that's the team I'm trying to get through with on wifi. Why they no enter? Is there something I'm not seeing?

Iron Head, Iron Tail, Stealth Rock, and Avalanche are incompatible with Random WiFi Battle because they are moves exclusive to Generation IV; they can be used with Pal Pad battles only, but not Random WiFi.

A second problem might be that some of your Pokemon have invalid PIDs (but this is only the case if they were hacked incorrectly).

Is it possible to trade for pokemon from games previous to white and black before I have the National Pokedex? I know I've done it before in Diamond, or at least I think I did.

Basically, I want to get a female Piplup into my game so I can have the foundation for my team of all Steel types.

To kill two birds with one stone here, if anyone does have a female Piplup they would be willing to part with, please pm me. I don't have much to trade, but I will trade away my starter (Servine) or whatever you would want. I appreciate it, thanks!

You can't transfer until you have the National Dex. :/ It's the same in Diamond actually, as I'm currently going through my Pearl trying to get the national dex to transfer from other games. xD;

All you can do is trade on the GTS, but you have to have seen a Piplup first, or try the Quick Trade thread in the Trade Corner for one.

You should be able to. Just like how Dream World Pokemon work, it shouldn't appear numbered (or have any data except the picture) until you get the NatDex.

You've got it wrong. The idea is that you're supposed to transfer it to another Diamond / Pearl game with the NatDex already and then trade it into the Diamond game you're playing. Or, if you can capture it in-game after the NatDex, you can actually just skip to the trade (e.g. with Rotom, who you can only get post NatDex in DP).

I misread "trade for pokemon from games previous" as "trade pokemon from games previous" I guess. My bad.

A weird Bug during Training

So I am EV training a Combusken for Speed and Power and it went to Level 28 but the weirdest thing happened with it's stat growth. It went like this:

Max. HP +3
Attack +2
Defense +1
Special Attack +7
Special Defense +?2
Speed +2

Is there something wrong with my game or something?
