Is there something wrong with my game or something?

Are you playing a legimate copy of the game?

Yes, but it has taken a little abuse due to my niece.

Need a guide on how to Breed IV's. Not a guide on what IV's are...I know that much. But I figure I'll take a shot in the dark and try to breed a flawless Chimchar.

Gymnotide June 17th, 2011 9:16 AM

What are you training against, and was the ? there?

To IV breed, you pick parents with high IVs and they will likely pass on to the child. There is no way to control this otherwise

Senoue_111 June 17th, 2011 9:26 AM

I was battling wild Venipedes for my Speed EVs and the ? was in that stat growth. The game seems to be playing normal now though.

To expand on this, the baby Pokemon will inherit 3 IVs from the parents randomly. If you give one of the Pokemon a power item, the stat that it's used for will be passed down to the baby. But if you give both of them a power item, it will only inherit one of the stats that the power items are for, randomly. If you give one an Everstone, then it's more likely to inherit that Pokemon's nature.

Other than that information, the rest is just deciding what you want to breed and what items to give them, not stuff we can really help you too much with.

Empty White Forest

Hi everyone, I have a concern/question about my Empty White Forest.

Am I correct in assuming that if I don't live near someone who has the Black Version, my White Version will never migrate pokemon into the forest?

If I have friends that have the Black Version, but live nowhere near me, is it still possible to connect to each other's unique zone?

Thanks,

Jewnior

A Pokemon game will only give you the "?" if an Ar is used. It happened to me all the time on my Diamond. I'd used to many cheats throughout the game, not at once, just throughout. It's harmless. Also, Venipedes give Defense Ev's...

Yeah, unfortunately it's only a local wireless thing, not wi-fi, so you have to be near someone with the game. Probably not the answer you were hoping for. :/

I figured as much, just makes me wonder why they would butcher a perfectly awesome concept because of that. So the only way is to trade for them then, eh? I mean, outside of getting a second DS and second game...

Senoue_111 June 17th, 2011 10:17 AM

Venipede give Def? Then why does the the final stage give Speed? I just looked at Scolipede's page thing on Bulba and went for Venipede thinking it gave me 1 for Speed plus the Power Anklet. Guess laziness messed up my training... And I am not using an AR, can't afford one if I wanted one atm.

Nope, because Scolipede gives out Speed Ev's it doesn't mean that Venipede does. Well it must be damaged, I'd ask a professional, that's if you want to take it that far...

Senoue_111 June 17th, 2011 10:55 AM

Ehh...well I guess I can just buy a new one in a month or so, then transfer my useful Pokemon.

Yeah. Routes in Unova are a lot shorter and narrower and the trainers are a bit higher-leveled. It's to help you prepare for battle. Since there's less grass, there's more punishment for stepping into it.

With my dream World account based off of Black, am I able to register White as well?

What were to happen if a registered game gets restarted, then registered again?... however registering again works... are the points lost?

Just don't want to start a second Dream World account...

Not sure about game restarting tbh, but I'd hazard a guess that the points are lost. Don't quote me on that though.

As for the account, you can have one White and one Black on one account.

Hey guys due to exams for the last two months I haven't been able to play my copy of Pokemon White as I was prioritising my studies. However, now that I've almost finished my exams I can relax again and play the game. There's a catch, though. I'm coming to the part of the story where I have to battle the Elite Four for the second time (where their levels range from level 71 to 75) and my six Pokemon are still around level 57 mark. Am I going about things incorrectly? I would have thought that my Pokemon would be higher levels so I can compete against the Elite Four. Is there an area which I can train my Pokemon that I've missed? Or am I doing things as they should be and I'm the one over-reacting?

I'm currently at the Challengers Cave; in case you guys wanted a reference.

Battling wild Audino is the best thing (especially at Giant Chasm) or just defeating the other trainers if you haven't already done that. For my Hall of Fame Challenges I train all my team to lv60 but you might want to train yours higher if you feel that that is too low.

インフェルノの津波 June 19th, 2011 2:34 AM

Naw that's Trollfreak at it's finest, just Audino grind/Giant Chasm grind.

Amore June 19th, 2011 4:10 AM

Also, you could make sure that you've actually been around all of Unova. Check you've been to Undella Town, etc. and not just retraced your steps to end up at the Pokémon League without exploring the remaining areas.

Eggs and Natures

I'm just wondering, is there any way that can make a certain nature hatch more often? Sometimes it's really annoying when box after box fills up and you haven't gotten anywhere. :/

If you give one of the parents an Everstone, it gives that parent a 50% chance of passing on their nature instead of picking a random one. :B

It still won't help me though as neither of the parents are the nature I need. T-T

Could you breed the one you want until you get the nature you want, than breed that one?

Ho-Oh June 19th, 2011 9:23 PM

Or alternatively if it's found in the wild, catch Munna's with synchronise and it'll give it a 50% chance of syncronising its nature with the Pokemon you wanna breed. :x

(Elgyem has it too)

~Akiko June 19th, 2011 9:23 PM

Yeah, but I was just wondering if there was any way to get the nature of the first one easier.

Sometimes it just seems like it'll never happen. :/

Any chance of Munnas being caught with Timid nature often?

Catch a wild female Munna. Then, look for any Pokemon that you have that is on this page and is male: click here. Also check your Dittos.

If the Pokemon has the desired Nature, take it out; have that male (or Ditto) hold an Everstone and put it in the Daycare with the female Munna. Hatch the egg and hope it has both Synchronize and the desired Nature (you have about 25%). Keep the Munna for future use. This also works with other Pokemon with Synchronize, but you need to conform to their egg groups.

Pretty hardcore players have 1 Synchronizer and 1 Ditto for each desirable Nature.

- - - - -

Alternatively, you can breed the female you are trying to breed now with another Pokemon with desirable Nature of its same egg group and then rebreed using the child that comes out of the egg with the male you are trying to breed.

How can i get Milotic at Route 1?

It will appear 5% from a Phenomenal Encounter.

You have to look in the water for these semi-circular, dark blue ripples. If you walk into the ripple (or any Phenomenon), you'll encounter a Pokemon with 100% chance and the Pokemon will usually vary from what is normally found. Water ripples are different from other Phenomena (rustling grass / bird shadow / swirling dust) because they can also be fished in to encounter the Pokemon. On Route 1, fishing in Water Phenomena will 60% Feebas, 35% Basculin (opposite color from the ones normally found in the version being played), and 5% Milotic. You must fish or you will never encounter Milotic.

Given the rarity of Phenomena and the extremely low encounter rate of Milotic, you are better off hunting for Feebas and evolving it. It evolves very easily in this generation (you trade with a Prism Scale).

Fun fact: Tyranitar can also be found in rustling grass Phenomena in B/W.

How do I get back to N's Castle? I beat the Elite Four and then wandered around a bit of the castle. I encountered a guy who asked me if I wanted to go back to the Pokemon League, and I said yes for whatever reason (just curious exactly where it would take me I guess). So it took me back outside the Pokemon League, but now the guy outside won't let me back in, saying I can't enter at this time. And I can't find N's Castle anywhere in the map, so I don't know how to get back there.

I assume I'm missing something obvious, but I don't know what.

There's a Plasma member inside the Pokemon Center at the Pokemon League that will send you back inside. Don't be afraid to use those guys to go back and forth to heal as needed. (:

Does Expirience share also share EV points, and if it does, would making the battling pokemon hold a macho brace make any difference?

Nope, experience share only gives experience, no Ev's. It's better to make a Pokemon hold a Power item that the Macho Brace.

Power Anket; Adds +4 Ev's to Speed but lowers the speed
Power Belt; Adds +4 Ev's to Defense but lowers the speed
Power Bracer; Adds +4 Ev's to Attack but lowers the speed
Power Band; Adds +4 Ev's to Special Defense but lowers the speed
Power Weight; Adds +4 Ev's to Hp but lowers the speed
Power Lens; Adds +4 Ev's to Special attack but lowers speed

They all can be purchased at the Battle Subway for 48 Bp IIRC.

Actually, an Exp. Share does give EVs. If you get experience, you get EVs. If you kill a Patrat for one Attack EV with a Pokemon holding an Exp. Share, each one that received experience will get one EV in Attack. While it's still better to use the Power items or the Macho Brace, it can slowly be done if your Pokemon is level 1 with an Exp. Share.

And each power item is 16 BP, not 48. So one full run through the Single Subway line.

Have you been using the Dream World? If you got far enough into that you can get some EV reducing berries and start over so you can EV properly.

~Akiko June 20th, 2011 11:50 AM

I have another spare Pokemon with the correct nature luckily.

If I don't evolve the pokemon and train it, do I lose overall stats in the end?

That question confuses me a little, but I think I might understand it. xD If you EV train it before evolving it, it'll keep its EVs after evolution. But if you don't evolve it, the base stats are lower, so it's still not as strong as if you had. Is that your question?

~Akiko June 20th, 2011 11:54 AM

Do I lose stats for evolving later? o.o

Well, you should of went for a Bold nature tbh, but anyway.

Since Brave raises attack and lowers speed, Proteins are good, Calciums and Carbos aren't to be used. Zinc, Hp Ups and Iron should be used.

Stone Edge is alriiight, but its Special Attack is a bit higher than its Attack so if I were you I would EV it in at least Sp. Atk and give it a straight Special movepool. There's a Quick Questions thread in the Competitive Battling Center that could give you a good analysis on your Hydreigon if you want to submit it there.

Of course if this is just ingame, as long as you level it up it's fine. :3

~Akiko June 20th, 2011 1:33 PM

Hmm, I just finished EV'ing in special attack right now but I was thinking it may be useful in competitive fighting.

I was also thinking, surf,fire blast/flamethrower,dragon pulse

Any chance it can learn toxic?

Hydreigon can learn Toxic, but afaik that's not a favored moveset for him. The one I use competitively has 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, and 4 HP for its EVs, and this is its moveset:
-Surf
-Draco Meteor
-Dark Pulse
-Fire Blast

It's common to replace Draco Meteor with Dragon Pulse to avoid the stat reduction I think, and Fire Blast with Flamethrower for better accuracy. But like I said, your best bet is to try the CBC, they know everything about everything competitive and can help a lot xD;

~Akiko June 20th, 2011 1:43 PM

Ah, well it's fine.
I like making up my own stuff kinda.

I'll decide what I put on it when it's a Hydreigon. It's only still a Deino, I have time. :P

I also need a 6th Pokemon if you could recommend a type. I don't know what I really need.

Espeon,Hydreigon,Ninetales,Eelektross,Sawsbuck

I make fun teams and try and win so I'm sure it's missing some big things but I don't know what type my 6th should be.

3 of your current team take 200% damage from Bug type attacks, which can be fairly common. I suggest adding a flying or rock type to your team, just in case Ninetales is fainted by the time any bug types come in.

Gymnotide June 20th, 2011 2:10 PM

Toujours got Hydreigon's standard set above. However, Hydreigon is also a Pokemon that can make good use of Charge Beam due to its already monstrous SpA. Alternative options include a mixed set using Head Smash / Draco Meteor to annihilate nearly anything. Also note Earth Power as an alternative to Dark Pulse and U-Turn as an alternative to Surf (but only if you don't need extra STAB / a Water-type move); Dark Pulse is preferred, but Draco Meteor will be the move of choice nearly all the time anyway. Don't Charge Beam on a choice set.

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs / Choice Scarf / Expert Belt / Life Orb
~ Levitate
# Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
# Flamethrower / Fire Blast
# Surf / U-Turn / Head Smash / Dark Pulse
# Dark Pulse / Earth Power / Charge Beam

Espeon,Hydreigon,Ninetales,Eelektross,Sawsbuck

Mmm... Your team is pretty weak to Bug-type right now. Try something that's Ghost-type to soak up the hate. Jellicent is always good. Golurk likes to wreck things (and Sawsbuck + Sap Sipper can help its Grass-type weakness, but he's still weak to Ice-type and Water-type, which makes the switch hard [most Water-types / Ice-types learn the opposite type and they beat Sawsbuck / Ninetales, respectively]). Otherwise, you can try Ferrothorn for a second Grass-type.

Problem is that most Bug-type attack users are Psychic-type, Rapidash / Nidoking / Rhyperior / Samurott / Sawsbuck (a.k.a. not Bug-types) and Volcarona. The diversity is too much to predict. Rock-type would be good for most of them, but it would need to pack some Fighting-type too. Fighting-type Pokemon also learn Stone Edge (but Volcarona eats it with Psychic and most Signal Beam users are Psychic-type).

My game freezes every time I get to they back screen that says the seasons? Is there anything I can do? Or is the save file lost forever?

Gymnotide June 20th, 2011 6:05 PM

Are you playing emulated, off a flashcart, or off a legitimate DScard?

If you are playing emulated, you should try replacing your .nds file (the .sav or .dsv files contain only data and therefore are compatible with any iteration of the .nds file). It's highly unlikely that it's your save file that is corrupted.

If you are playing on a flashcart, try upgrading your firmware for the system, upgrading your software, and replacing the .nds file. If the .nds file doesn't load, it could be because the anti-piracy is acting up (you need a patch for this). If that doesn't work, try backing up the .sav file on your computer and rebooting a recovery save from the flashcart menu.

If you are playing legitimately, there's little you can do, to be honest. Have you done anything to the game (e.g. Action Replay, glitches, etc.)?

I wish it wasn't the legit copy. Never glitched it on intentionally, So I have no idea what's up. I googled it and saw most of the problems were related to walk through walls, which I know I never did, so the only thing I can think of is maybe I stumbled upon a glitched rock or fence or something and saved with I was stuck through it. That does seem very unlikely though.

That does seem very unlikely though.

Mm... No, I don't think that's the case. Have you tried shifting between Xtransceiver on / off? Can you still access the Game Sync and send a Pokemon to Dream World? Can you use the Battle Coliseum (or whatever it's called) feature and select Pokemon to battle with? I don't know. I'd probably just wait until the month is over and test it out on a new season.

Do you remember where you saved?

I'll have to try those things out. I saved right outside Dragonspiral tower.

I have a question about my team, I decided to put it here because I feel like putting it in the In-game team help section would be a waste of a thread. So here's my team.

Pignite
Ducklett
Lilligant
Duosion
Krokorok

I don't know what I should have as my sixth team member, I'm trying to decide between a Haxorus, Vanillite, Joltik or pulling my Blitzle out of the PC. I'm in the 5th Gym btw.

Pichu_fan June 21st, 2011 11:30 AM

Hi,guys.I have something.I have 2 Jp Axew. But I don't have the Jap.Pokedex entry for them.Does that mean they are "fake"?I want to use one for MM.

I WILL NOT USE CHEATS

smurf June 21st, 2011 2:21 PM

well if its your 1st time faceing them i suggest you level up your pokemon then i would go online and look at each elite four member figure out each of there pokemons weaknesses and make a plan for yourself

Gothitelle. June 21st, 2011 2:25 PM

I was like you, I didnt have patience to grind, but I then realized that it payed off. I would suggest that. Also you need to pay attention to types and the moves these pokemon have: http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/elitefour.shtml

For example: I would train Swoobat in defense because most of Marshall's pokemon have a rock move, which can KO it. :[

Dont restart your game. See if one or more of your pokemons knows dark/ghost/fire/water/dragon/ice/flying/fight/electric type moves. I dont say that u must learn all your pokemon moves with these types but it is going to help you during elite4 and champion battles.

You should pay attention to the other teams pokemon and what moves they have, cause some of the pokemons in elite4 may dafeat your pokemon that you're going to use. So it could defeat your pokemon if the move is super effective.

Timid for both, they need a load of speed, they're to frail to take hits so defensive natures aren't good. You could go for Modest, but Timid is better.

Unova Pokemon don't have foreign Pokedex entries because when Black / White came out in Japan, no other language had names for the Pokemon yet.

I go eletric type with the flying gym coming up.
Depends if you get trick room on you Duosion, if not Blitzle would be a nice choice Joltik has its advantages. I took blitzle in black joltik in white and I've gotta say I liked having a Galvantula better than Zebstrika. So if you want a speedy attacker Blitzle. If you want a power hitter Joltik.

Xander Olivieri June 21st, 2011 4:40 PM

You don't want to grind but want to start over? Starting over would take much longer than just grinding. And it isn't your team so much as your levels. You need to be around the 50s to take on the E4. I don't mean lvs 45. I mean 49-52 Minimum. There aren't many items that aren't part of the main story that would help you anyway unless you want to give Fraxure Eviolite.

Just go grind to 50+

I didn't plan on using Trick Room, but come to think of it, I didn't really plan out much of a moveset for my Pokemon. Mainly because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted on my team. Honestly though, I'm kinda preffering Joltik to Blitzle, mainly because I've never used a Joltik before.

Yeah, TMs are available forever no matter how much you use them.

Confused...

What game should I choose?? Black or White? I'm happy for answers!!:D

Caranciio June 23rd, 2011 7:48 AM

I picked Black because it's my favorite color, and I love Reshiram more than Zekrom. It also has Gothita, whom I love. I got my friend who has White to trade me over a Braviary though, because I love them as well.

The biggest difference between the two is Black City and White Forest. Would you rather find exclusive Pokemon in White Forest, or battle trainers in Black City?

What move is better, Spikes or Stealth Rocks?
I think they do the same thing right?

The idea is basically the same, but there are a few differences. Spikes don't hit Flying types, Levitating Pokemon, or Pokemon using Magnet Rise. It will always hit a certain percentage of HP no matter what type effectiveness it is. It can also be stacked up to 3 times.

Stealth Rock hits every type of Pokemon, as it's rocks floating in the air. It also hits a certain percentage of HP, but it changes depending on its weakness or resistance to rock (anywhere from 3% to 50% damage). It can't be stacked at all.

Personally, I like Stealth Rock better.

~Akiko June 23rd, 2011 9:31 AM

Yeah, stealth rocks sounds like a way better move. :D Is there a TM for either of them?

Stealth Rock was a TM in Gen 4, but not Gen 5. Spikes was never one. :x I guess you gotta work for the great moves.

What are some good sets/teams for double battles? I want to get through the Battle Subway as painlessly as possible.

My boyfriend uses Espeon and Umbreon as a team, and they're unstoppable. Umbreon has the moves Toxic, Confuse Ray, Faint Attack and Moonlight, whereas Espeon has all-offense moves (can't remember them). Either way, it's a great team.

Spikes is better for Generation V, however.

How exactly do you use pass powers? e__e

I remember buying a Bargain Power it said where Pokemarts were 50% off for 3 minutes. So I went to the spiral tree in the entralink, accepted the pass power, adn bought things. I don't think they were 50% off though -____-'

jigglyppuff8 June 23rd, 2011 7:24 PM

You turn on the C-Gear, press the bar on the bottom that would show the people nearby, and then hit the green triangle.

Zealot740 June 23rd, 2011 10:22 PM

I am currently working on my competitive team and I'm very serious about this. My physical sweeper is Braviary and I have a question about his Sheer Force, stat-reducing/recoil moves, and Life Orb.

If someone is familiar with what I'm going on about, you might know what I'll ask.

- Does my HP get deducted from Life Orb if I have Sheer Force?
- Will my stats be reduced from SOOPAR POWAH (Super Power)?
- Will I take recoil from Brave Bird?

A well knowledgeable answer would be nice :)

jigglyppuff8 June 23rd, 2011 10:56 PM

Depends. If it move that gets boosted by Sheer Force, then LO damage is negated.
Yes. Sheer Force does not apply to moves that have a negative effect on the user such as stat reduction or recoil.
Yes. See above.

If there is another effect aside from recoil or stat damage, such as Flare Blitz's Burn Chance, than Sheer Force will activate. Brave Bird and Superpower will not activate it however.

This can be further extrapolated.

Sheer Force only works on move that have a secondary effect, not a primary effect. Secondary effects are only effects that affect stats or inflict status conditions. Primary effects include stat penalty and recoil. Sheer Force will also negate any held-item that the user holds if it activates in response to a boosted attack--this means Life Orb, Shell Bell, and any similar item. However, since the damage bonus from Life Orb is a passive bonus, that effect is not activated.

I'm self-appointed leader of the Sheer Force page on Bulbapedia; there's a list of affected moves on that page: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Sheer_Force

After you defeat the 7th Gym Leader, go north to the Dragonspiral tower, once you've defeated Plasma in there, fly to Nimbasa and make your way to the Ancient Castle. Make your way down to the basement and watch the events un-fold. Once that's done go back to Icirrus City then go east until you see a black building, Bianca will battle you and you can progress to Opelucid city.

I don't know where better to put this question but here, so don't yell at me if it's in the wrong section ^^' Anyways, I really wanted to know how to record my pokemon black wifi battles with high quality. Many have suggested a flash card. I am basically wondering, does it have to be a DS specific flash card or just any other flash card from any other brand? Please, if someone could answer my question that would be wonderful!

I'm not sure if this helps a lot, but my sister has a specific DS cart with a spot for a microSD. That way you can use the SD for things other than the DS.

Doesn't really help in my case as the purpose is to exchange files from the ds to the computer, which apparently can only be done with a flash card. I don't want to go out and waste my money on an off-brand flash card if it wont work on my ds, you know? Thanks a lot for trying to help, I really appreciate your time and effort! :)

I'm pretty sure that you can plug a micro SD card into a computer to save what is on it, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not sure. There might be a feature ingame to save to the SD card or something. Try Googling it. It might not be possible. What DS system are you using?

DSi and I tried looking it up, I'm not finding anything.

Gymnotide June 24th, 2011 9:44 AM

You record the videos using the in-game recorder, then you save. You plug the MicroSD into your computer and play the ROM on an emulator, replay the save, and record it from there.
