And yeah, my SP.Attack and Defense is Extremely low, In fact I didn't care much since Garchomp always gives me a one hit win....Back then I didn't know what where IVs and EVs so, I didn't know I can make a change to his defense and SP.attack.

I don't think you can increase Garchomp's Defense and Special Attack at this point, since you may have maxed out Garchomp's EVs unwittingly when you trained it.

Also, what's your Garchomp's Speed at level 50 (since it's the level cap in the Battle Subway)? Its Speed at that level could be whether or not Choice Scarf let Torterra outspeed Garchomp.

Well, first, when I said increase his defense and such, I meant b4 maxing out his Speed. Second of all, as stated above, Garchomp's Speed at lvl50 in the subway was 149....So....Could it Outspeed??

Gymnotide did the math for you above, and yes, a Torterra with a Scarf can outspeed a Garchomp with that speed. It's not unliikely, especially considering the Subway players are so haxy, I could see them getting perfect IV Pokemon.

What was the streak number you were on? Just for the record?

AR RNGt

I was just wondering in which ways the Action Replay dsi can help me to RNG flawless IV'ed pokemon. At first I had hoped to purchase it just to just find my SID, but are there cool codes I can use to count seeds and find exact IV's as well?

Any other helpful information would be great :)
PM me please!
THANKS

Standard abuse is not compatible with DSi,3DS, or any form of action replay. If you'd like to RNG and have an AR assist you, you'd have to stick to C-Gear Abuse, which is much more difficult than Standard Abuse (honestly, I wouldn't even bother).
Also, you don't need an AR to find your SID, use something like Pokécheck.
Using an action replay kinda defeats the purpose of RNGing anyway...

how do you increase the occupant in the white forest? because at the moment i dont have any grass or water or anything...

also, ive been reading a bit about EV training (ive never done this before but it seems like the way forward). i think i understand it on the whole, however how do you decide which stat(s) is the best to train? also, as you can only get 510 altogether all the things ive read say to get 252 in 2 stats and just neglect the others...am i right in thinking that?

You need to use Entralink with someone near you who has Black and visit their Black City, talk to people, and some will come back with you. That's the only way to do it.

Generally, I look at the EV recommendations on Smogon, because I'm not great at figuring it out myself and even when I have an idea I don't want to mess it up, lol. However, usually at least one of the stats maxed is its best stat, while the other one can be another great stat you'd like to raise or a lower stat that you'd like to make not such a huge weakness. But I would still look up what EVs are best for individual Pokemon. And yeah, you have it right. With a few exceptions, builds are 252 in two stats, and then 4 of the remaining 6 points in a third stat.

So if i dont know anyone with black then i simply cant get the benefits of the white forest?

jtlyk, at streaks zero to forty-nine, all foe IVs are set at 0. Then when they hit forty-nine and up, they jump to 31 in each stat (or perfect). That's probably why it gave you trouble--since its IVs AND EVs were perfect, while yours are more likely not (because perfect Pokemon are extremely hard to come by).

Neltar August 6th, 2011 8:57 AM

When using vitamins on a Pokemon to increase EVs, when it says "Doesn't affect <Pokemon>" does this mean that particular stat is maxed out in EVs of that stat, or does it stop working at a lower amount to stop you from only using vitamins?

Nope, you can't unfortunately.

After the Pokemon has 100 EVs in one stat, vitamins no longer work, as well as if it's overall maxed out on its EVs. So it could be either of those situations.

Ive looked around at some other places to try and get an answer but none of them really have helped sufficiently.
what is the difference between attack and special attack (and def, SpD)? i do kind of know but i dont know where the line is drawn? like, i thought fire type moves would be special attack but then darumaka, a fire type pokemon, has high attack but very low special attack.....

In Gen 4 and 5 (diamond, pearl, platinum, heartgold, soulsilver, black and white) for every attack, there's a symbol on the top right that tells you if the attack uses SpA or regular Attack. The red and orange symbol is for attack power, and the grey circle symbol is special attack. So flame wheel, and fire punch are "physcial" fire attacks, and fire blast and flamethrower are "special" fire attacks.

In gen 1, 2, and 3 all fire attacks are special attack.

The Special symbol is purplish; not light grey like the Status moves (but none of those moves are attack moves anyway).

This has never happened to me before I think. I went on to the Dream World earlier today, and finished the session like I always do: I picked my Pokemon at the Dream Tree, and I closed my session by clicking the power button at the upper right of the screen and choosing the first option it gives, allowing me to awaken my Pokemon and get in my game what I acquired in the Dream World that day. However, tonight I went to the Game Sync in my game to awaken me Pokemon, and received a message saying how I haven't yet received all of the "dream shards" (or "pieces" I assume) from my previous time in the Dream World, and if I awaken my Pokemon now, I'll lose that stuff.

What's this about? How is it fixed?

That's not a problem at all. You transfered items from the dream world along with your Pokémon, correct? All you have to do is pick up your items. Just go to the Entralink (Hi-Link) and talk to the kid in front of the forest (the game does tell you this jsyk).

So, I decided I'd like to play some online battles. Random battles, trading and all of that.

I have a DS and I am about to complete the game (as in beat Ghetsis). I have a router with wifi and a functional DS etc etc well within reach of the router.

Is this all I need to be able to play? And is there anything I should know before I start battling? Thanks.

Bandito911 August 8th, 2011 2:24 AM

what does it mean when it says "there is a pokemon outbreak on route X"?

also, when you want to EV train your pokemon in just 2 stats do you avoid fighting other pokemon which wont benefit that stat? because if not i dont see how you can get to 252 in 2 stats...

As long as your internet security is compatible with your DS, you're good. WPA security is only usable with DSis and above.

That's right. Most of them you can find an area where most of the Pokemon benefit it (Celestial Tower for Sp. Atk., Rte 1 water for Speed), but there is one where at most 1/2 the Pokemon there are beneficial, I believe it's Defense but I could be wrong.

It means a Pokemon is swarming, in other words, there's a higher chance of finding a rarer or normally not exclusive Pokemon on that route it mentions. You can read more information here.

Tsundera August 8th, 2011 3:53 AM

This is a bit confusing but I'll try my best to delineate my question.

In Pokémon Black & White, right before you battle with N, you capture Zekrom or Reshiram depending on what version you're using right? Then it basically forces you to switch out a member of your party for the new legendary. My question is that if you use the legendary in battle against N and Ghetsis, will you get EVs from their Pokémon?

When I first caught Reshiram, it automatically placed him in the first slot of my party as I only had 5 Pokémon at the time. I was worried he would get EVs that I didn't want if I used him in battle against N & Ghetsis, so I switched him out for another Pokémon and played on from there, except Reshiram still got some EXP for having been in the fight at the start of the battle after the first opposing Pokémon was killed. Would Reshiram get EVs from that Pokémon even though it wasn't the one who killed it?

If so, it's basically impossible to keep your tao legendary untouched 8(

It asks you if you'd like to add the legendary to your party, and you don't have to, so it is possible to have it without EVs. But you did get EVs from that one Pokemon, sorry :(

What does it mean to have flawless IV's?

Ho-Oh August 8th, 2011 7:45 AM

It means that basically in each IV (which extends from 0 - 31) that your stats are 31 and therefore perfect, so if you were to ev train that Pokemon with a helpful nature, their stats would reach the maximum possible number, so for example if you ev trained a Herdier in attack w/Adamant or something with flawless IVs, it would have the maximum possible attack overall while every other stat has the maximum possible for non Ev'd stats if that makes sense.

You can also read more here.

I used the Metalkid IV calculator, but I have no idea how to read that thing. I put in the information and saw a bunch of numbers pop up at the bottom, which of course mean nothing to me. Any help Forever?

Thanks.

Nope. Your Pokemon won't get put to Level 100. If you go into battle with say a level 70 Pokemon, it will stay at level 70.

Those numbers are the Iv's your Pokemon can have. As you raise the Pokemon's level the numbers will start to round down to 1 number. That will be the Iv. The Metalkid calculator tells you what level to raise it to, to get the best and accurate results. :)

VGC Hack Check Help

Does anybody out there know anything of the hack checks at VGC? Do you think it would come up as hacked if I checked my excadrill's EV's using an AR code after I maxed them out the right legit way?
The problem is I just can't trust myself to do a perfect job with counting the EV's and I would really like the confirmation lmao

I'm pretty sure if you use Ev/Iv checking codes on Pokemon it doesn't make it "hacked" I'm not too familiar with the hack checking of the VGC. I'd either Google to find your answer or ask over in the CBC question thread. :)

Hi, when I EV train I start at training at level 1 and of course the Pokemon I'm training isn't strong enough to defeat the EV giving Pokemon and I heard that using Exp. Share gives the Pokemon that has the Exp. Share EVs wanted or not. What's a good way to EV train?

You could just use Rare Candies to level it up to a decent level. It doesn't gain Ev's that way. Or you could get a fully Ev'd Pokemon and do the switching method. Since the fully Ev'd Pokemon has maximum Ev's, it won't gain any unwanted Ev's, leaving your level 1 Pokemon to get the full Exp and the Ev's. :)

[Switching method = Sending out level 1 Pokemon. Instantly switching for level 100 Ev'd Pokemon]

You'll have to get a male Machop/Machoke/Machamp from Generation IV and teach it Ice Punch and Cross Chop. Breed it with a female Electabuzz or Electivire.

Then hatch the egg.

What pokemon would I have to defeat and how many to get this Ev spread; 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe. Thanks. :)

greg0915 August 9th, 2011 2:51 PM

for 252 HP you would have to kill 42 Stunfisk while holding the Power Weight
for 184 Def you would have to kill 39 Yamask while holding the Power Belt and 4 without.
for 72 Spd you would have to kill 12 Liepard while holding the Power Anklet

Or you could just bring it to me and i'll train it in 10 mins ;)

The Pokemon that give out the Ev's are;

HP - Audino and Palpitoad both give 2 points
Defense - Sewaddle and Venipede give 1 Point. Whirlipede gives 2 points
Speed - Basculin, Purloin, Blitzle and Woobat. They all give 1 point.

The above Pokemon aren't the only ones to give those Ev's, but they're the easiest to find.

With no items or PKRS helping you, you'd have to defeat 72 speed Ev giving Pokemon and so on. For Hp you'd have to defeat 126. :) With items and such, idk because I'm lazy. x-x

Dream World limit

I was reading up on the Dream World, and apparently there's a 50 pokemon limit. I'm confused about what this means. Can I only catch 50 pokemon per cartridge, and then no more? Or is it just that the Entree Forest can only HOLD 50 pokes at one time? I want to have every pokemon's DW ability so I need to know if I can do it without trading.

Also, does your Friend Board reset to zero when you restart the game?

I'm pretty sure it's 50 that the Entree Forest can have. :)

Um, I'm not too familiar with the DW but I'm pretty sure it won't. Since it'll still be the same Game ID and cartridge, right? \: But then again, I'm not certain. Best let someone else answer this part. I know for certain that it's 50 for the Forest though. :)

So the box system expands this time.

Is this from manually placing in PC, or will it expand even if my capturing fills up Box 8 with Sturdy Boldore?

For the boy system, once you have at least 1 Pokemon in all 8 boxes, it will expand to 16, iirc then place another Pokemon in each of those new boxes to expand it to 24.

Following what he said, the box will start to expand after you defeat Ghetsis at N's Castle.

I don't think this is necessarily true. I've heard of people trying to get Zekrom/Reshiram in the Dragonspiral tower, and you can only do that after every box is full, and they've had to fill up all 24 boxes.

That's because you can't get Zekrom/Reshiram from the tower until after you beat Ghetsis :P

But to get it to go there you have to fill all your boxes, so if it didn't expand before defeating Ghetsis then you wouldn't have to catch 24 boxes of Pokemon, which is what I've been hearing is happening for people.

slickmario August 10th, 2011 5:32 PM

How to get Zekrom/Reshiram from DS Tower.
1. Fill up your party and all 8 PC boxes.
2. Defeat dragon at N's Castle. It flies away.
3. Beat N.
4. Beat Ghetsis.
5. Catch at tower after credits roll.

I don't know about other people, but you only need to fill up 8 boxes for the dragon to go to the tower. And it's not really worth it. Contrary to popular belief, you cannot catch them shiny at the tower anyway.

When all 16 of those boxes have at least one Pokémon in them, the capacity will be increased again to a maximum of 24 boxes, or 720 Pokémon. This allows for quicker save times early on, as save data for non-"unlocked" boxes does not need to be calculated, solving a common complaint about Generation IV's long save times. Each box still holds 30 Pokémon. Also, only four numerical digits can be used when naming the boxes. The other boxes are also shown on the right, as opposed to the top as they were in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

This quote from Bulbapedia doesn't mention anything about you having to defeat Ghetsis before the others open up. Serebii also doesn't mention anything about a time when you can open all 24 boxes. Can you show some sources that show your side? Because you could be right but I can't find anything anywhere that backs you up and I'd like to know if my information is faulty, honestly.

slickmario August 10th, 2011 5:47 PM

Huh. Looking over my information, it seems that you are correct. I could have sworn Serebii said that after the Elite Four was defeated, the other boxes would become available to you...

Best way to know for sure is to test for yourself next time otherwise then you're just going to mislead members :(

Either way, backing up the fact that it is true you can get 24 boxes before Elite Four, since I've done it myself.

Musharna August 10th, 2011 11:07 PM

I have three questions.

What levels are the Elite four? (Just so I know if I have to level up more)
What about Zekrom when you have to fight him? (playing Black version)
On what level does Larvesta evolve?

The Elite 4 all have the same levels. They have 3 level 48 Pokemon and 1 level 50.

Zekrom is level 50 when you battle him. Larvesta evolves at level 59. :)

I'd advise you not to train it ;)
It's waste of effort since you can catch Volcarona on lv.70 after league.

Yes but clearly they already have the lv. 70 one as Larvesta can't be obtained except through breeding. They may want to EV it from scratch.

It evolves at level 59.

Befriend a Pokemon (aka the eeveelutions with a special ability, only on Dream World though), Axew/Pidove/Pansage which were in Toys R Us, and currently apparently Europe can get Karrablast, Shelmet and Zoroark as seen here. And as for Japan, they've had the shiny movie Pokemon, which are either Golurk or Hydreigon depending on the version owned.

There's also been about 5 or so different C-Gear skins which have been given out over the Dream World, but that's basically it.

ok thanks do we know when they will be having an event for the legendarys or TM Snarl

Ho-Oh August 11th, 2011 7:46 AM

Currently there is no known information, but judging from Japan's release pattern, I'm thinking we'll probably get a new event sometime soon since technically there hasn't been a wifi event for 5 months, and Japan had three wifi events within 2 months, so idk. Keep checking the Pokemon information sites is all I can really think of to know, tbh.

Yup, all passwords are listed right here.

Serebii and Smogon seem to have pretty complete lists. Strangely though, they seem to both be missing Pikachu.

A little help

So, I am trying to get some pokemon from the global trade system, but it only lets you search for pokemon that you have already seen. Is there a way to get a friends pokedex data or some way besides getting all of the pokemon I need by other means?

greg0915 August 11th, 2011 2:08 PM

I looked at Serebii but they don't have a list of Events.
I know of:
Kanto, Hoen and Sinnoh starters
Eevee Evolutions
Togekiss
Toxicroak
Pikachu
Smeargle, Eevee and Burmy

But are there anymore ?

By that list I take it you're on about the DW events?

Croagunk, not Toxicroak. :P Arceus, Mamoswine, Porygon, Poliwhirl, Smeargle, Eevee and Burmy. Those are the events you missed out from your list.

That should help you, it has them listed and has a bit of info about them.

Not that I know of, except for trading the Pokémon you want to search for, with a friend. There is another way of trading Pokémon on the GTS though, that doesn't require you to have seen them, GTS Negotiations. I think it's a lot of fun, you'll get a random trade partner, and just like a regular trade, both of you can put up three offers and negotiate. I got a lot of Pokémon that I didn't have before, and most of them will be from other gens as well. You can't search for anything specific though, except for level, and what kind of Pokémon it is (cool, cute, strange, and so on). You probably won't have success with the regular GTS anyway, unless you have a lvl 9 and under Zekrom/Reshiram >__>".

Hope this helps!

I have a question myself - at lvl. 55, Shuckle learns Power Split (or Power Share, as it's sometimes called). It adds up the offensive stats of the user and the opponent, and divides it in half. If you switch out, does the effect wear off, or does the opponent still have the affected offensive stats (and the user)? If so, for how many turns does it remain that way?

wirbinspastic August 14th, 2011 9:08 PM

I finally bred a jolly gible but then I found out its IVs were all terrible (as in 0-6) except for its speed which was 31. So my question is should I try for another one and hope for better evs or does it not really matter. Also if I use a garchomp will no one want to battle me or should I just go for a salamence or hydreigon. Thanks

I'd try for another. Perhaps look into Iv Breeding.

It depends who you're battling. If it's just friends it may not matter. Random battle have a specific banlist which doesn't include Garchomp. If you battle say someone in the Quick Battle Thread on here then it may matter. Since Chomp is banned. \; I'd still breed one if you want to, but if you want a good Dragon type to use. Breed a Salamence/Hydreigon/Dragonite.

Shiny Breeding!

Hey Everyone, I am breeding for my favorite Shiny Pokemon, I just got a shiny charmander with Docile Nature which is my FAVORITE nature. I use a japanese version charmander and my own charizard to get him to be shiny. I have a Japanese version DOCILE natured DITTO, if I give that DITTO an EVERSTONE so DOCILE is passed on to my egg pokemon, will this affect/effect the possibilities of the pokemon being shiny? I just want all my shiny pokemon to have Docile Natures. Please advise! :) thanks!

Nope. The only thing that the Everstone will affect is the passed down nature. :) Why Docile? :x It does nothing

How do you recognize a shiny Pokemon?

I haven't ever seen one (I guess) but I've been wondering if I actually have, and just didn't know it was. I mean, the image I get is a sparkling blingbling filled pink thingy but... yeah. It probably isn't like that. I think I've seen pictures of a shiny Purrloin which looked awesome but I'm not sure.

Actually, it's pretty close to that. You'll know when you see a shiny (if you ever do). The encounter is pretty much the same as any normal encounter except the Pokémon will be a different color and there will be some sparkles (accompanied with a sound effect). There are loads of shiny videos on youtube if you want to see for yourself what they look like or learn to do RNG abuse.

Can I get patches of grass to appear in my White Forest by syncing with another player of White? I know it works by syncing with someone playing Black and visiting their Black City via Hi-Link, but will it work if I sync with another player of White? I know one person who plays White but no one who plays Black, and I want to be able to catch the Pokemon exclusive to White Forest. The writers of the games made this so inconvenient.

Nope, you can only gain more people in your White Forest by linking up with Pokemon Black and visiting their Black City and inviting people to join you.

Don't know what tier either are considered competitively, but Victini is a legendary and Zoroark is not.

In-game Victini is considered Uber, which means you can't use it in the Battle Subway, random Wi-FI matches. Zoroark is definitely not legendary/uber.

As for (Smogon's) competitive tiers, they are both not considered to be in the Uber tier. In fact, they are both in the "Underused" tier if I recall correctly.

After you've beaten the main game you can catch Pokemon from the older gens, is there a full list of all the Pokemon that you can catch in BW? I mean, I doubt there's all Pokemon from every previous gen?

Yes, you can catch previous generation Pokemon after the main story has been completed, in the east side of Unova. I don't think there's really a list of them. I guess your best bet is to use the Pokearth on Serebii to check the routes and such that you're on.

Gender Dilemma

Is there a better competitive gender for your pokemon? I was once told that females were preferable since most attract users were also female, therefore displaying an immunity. Is choosing boy or girl for your team members a whole lot more than just preference?

Well you said it yourself. Most Attract users are female... so if you want counter against them just make your team females.
If you don't care about them just go with anything you catch =D

VGC Hack Check Question

At a VGC, if you have legit pokemon that are cloned, will you get DQ'd?

Kenshin5 August 16th, 2011 5:41 PM

No because cloning is just duplicating the data, it is not editing or varying it any way to make it hacked and or edited.

PokéSwimmer August 16th, 2011 5:43 PM

As long as your cloning method does not alter the data of the Pokémon, they will pass hack checks.

123wert50 August 16th, 2011 5:46 PM

Oh, OK cool. I mean via AR clone, cuz I've heard it's illegal.

Just to play it safe, I wouldn't use AR on your game at all if you're going to be entering a competition.

Breeding mechanics are slightly different than in Gen IV, so yeah, you can. I don't see why you'd want to though, since it's faster to just to bike around and continuously get new eggs.

PradaSon August 17th, 2011 10:20 AM

I was wondering how one would accurately calculate a lvl.1 pokemon's IVs without using an AR.
