You can't, really. \; You could try asking someone who has an AR.

Nothing. They are both the same abilities. So before you say, yes, Delibird got trolled badly. :P

Vital Spirit prevents a pokemon from sleeping in battle and outside of battle it increases your chances of meeting higher lvled pokemon.

Insomnia prevents sleep for both pokemon in battle (I think), but has no effects outside of battle.

The effect is pretty much the same, but Vital Spirit is mostly for Fighting types (and a few others, but mostly pretty tough Pokémon, exterior wise), and Insomnia is more seen with nocturnal Pokémon (mostly dark, psychic, and so on).

Also, it decreases the chance of encountering high lvl Pokémon by 50%, instead of increasing.

What I've just tried doing is going to that battle challenge place near the stadium town which would bring the lvl.1 pokemon to lvl.50 and then recording their stats and inputting it into the Serebii Calculator, would this provide accurate enough calculation?

I don't think they would be 100% accurate, but surely more accurate then when you calculate it on a lvl. 1 Pokémon.

Pokécheck is a useful service that can be used to check a Pokémon's IVs.

That looks extremely useful, but it appears its only for DSi and such, I am using my 3DS now because for some reason my DSi will no longer connect to the internet.

It is for any DS system. I have an original Ds and I can connect fine. Try editing the wifi settings from the c gear menu.

Oryx August 17th, 2011 3:04 PM

What I do to check IVs is to save the game and use my 10 Rare Candies, then check the IVs, then reset the game without saving. That way I don't lose my candies and still have a more accurate IV check.

Granted, it's not even close to perfect but it's better than checking a level 1 Pokemon.

Can anyone here help me find my Secret ID for the RNG (5th Generation)?

Thanks.

You probably can't transfer a Pokemon from Black to HG, can you?

Could someone please help me find my SID?

I really need to find my secret ID, can someone help?

It means that they're untouched, as in haven't been EV'd, etc.

Thanks! Forgot to ask this as well so here comes... What does 'flawless' mean then?

Flawless means that it has perfect ivs, 31 in each stat. And if you're unsure about IVs, check here :3

I have a question. In my HeartGold game I was planning on changing the time on the clock so I can challenge the gym leaders as fast and as much as possible. Right before I was going to start my brother warned me that if I change the times like that in my White game the White Forest won't have anything there. Is this true? One note though, I haven't gotten to the White Forest yet, so I was wondering if it'll be blank when I get there.

If you keep changing the clock, yes, you have the potential to lose everyone originally in your White Forest. You'll have to connect with a black then.

If you change it a lot there's a chance it will, ESPECIALLY if you change it forwards instead of backwards. White Forest is based on play time mostly, as far as I know, but changing the clock will risk it so I would get to the forest, catch all the Pokemon you can, and then bother with changing the clock.

funrush August 19th, 2011 3:00 PM

Would it matter if I did the clock-changing stuff before I got to that point in the game? Like I said I've only just recently beaten the 5th gym leader. Also, What would cause it to erase like that?

Nimbasa Sport Domes. You'll get to battle around 20 people between the two domes per day, all their Pokemon are around 65 and most people have more than one Pokemon. If not, Audino is always good for exp, especially around Giant Chasm where they're at the highest level. Just attach Lucky Egg and boom, instant level gain.

You need to get through in less than a certain amount of steps so you need to know directly where to go in order to limit your steps.

Try following this map: http://pokemondb.net/maps/abyssal-ruins
It's pretty good and basically outlines where to go if you match it up to the games.

So yeah just dive back down like you did before, hopefully going by the main entrance and you should be at the end of the ruins in no time.

If you want liiinks:

Also, our FAQ has a guide to how to EV train well in B/W, so you could read that too :)

Breeding for shinies

So I have a question about breeding for shinies , let me explain .
I've heard that 2 shinies never breed a shiny .
But if I use 1 shiny and 1 normal i can improve the chances of getting a shiny pokemon .

My question is : is the second statement true ?

ps. i think this is the right place to do this sort of things xD

Cheers :D

The second statement is false, to improve your odds on hatching a shiny Pokemon, you'll need a foreign Pokemon, a Pokemon from a game that isn't your language, so if your game is in english, you'll need a Pokemon from Japan, Korea, Germany, France, etc... You'll need to breed this Pokemon with a Pokemon from your game, or at least the same language as your game.

This is called the 'Masuda Method'
More info here http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Masuda_method
Hope I helped :)

Nothing is changed, though you can no longer use it while under the effects of Leaf Guard. It might be that Rest counters are preserved while switched out, but I was 40% sure that was a feature of 4th gen.

Oh yeah lol. I could have told you that, but I skimmed the thread and I thought you got an answer already haha.

You can also rearrange the colors / buttons using one of the buttons on the bottom of the C-Gear too.

But I believe it's someone upstairs in the lobby of the Musical Hall.

I read in an answer above that the best way to level up your Pokemon post-E4 and post-exploringtheEastsideofUnova is to use the two sport domes in that city that has the Battle Subway.

My question is - can I manlipulate the 3DS clock so that I don't have to wait for the next day to fight them?

If not, where's the best place to find Audino? Finally, is there a way of increasing the chances of shaking grass appearing, so that I can encounter them most often?

Thanks in advance.

RiceMenPT August 24th, 2011 7:26 AM

yes u can change BUT only if its in a route/city that doesn't have any daily "event" but I won't recommend it cause sometimes it goes wrong and you have to w8 more 24h :s
btw the best spot for audinos is in the giant chasm (lv50-55) .
Otherwise you can chill out on route 12(im not sure about the number so , its the route where you can catch combees etc , right next to the giant chasm) where you can get them at (lv47-50) .
hope i helped ^^

Now my question , can any1 tell me some gr8 teams for battle subway?
I have almost all pokemons so , just need some items , so , opinions are acepted ! :D

Yoshikko August 24th, 2011 12:22 PM

Which Pokémon in B/W gives the most EXP, excluding Audino?

Whoa, you only searched one date? You'd be lucky if you even found a seed. When you're searching for shiny captures (with specific IVs) you have to make it search a couple of months at least.

OK, so you found your seed, that's good. What is the PID frame for the shiny? Also, do you know how to check your starting PID frame? (Catch a Pokémon, use its Nature/Ability/Species to find out. RNG reporter should give you a list of PID frames that you can look this up with). Also, The IV frame is 1 right?

Uh IDK the exact procedure (I use PPRNG instead of RNG Reporter because I'm on a Mac, so the procedure is different). You need to do something that will give you a list of PID frames with the corresponding ability, nature, ESV (encounter slot), and gender. Alternatively, you could use the "calculate initial PID frame feature and that usually works most of the time. Also, RNG reporter should tell you what the shiny frame of the seed is.

That sounds about right, you still should learn to calculate the initial one without the aid of that button (sometimes it doesn't work due to wandering NPCs or other factors). All you have to do is use Chatot to advance your frame to whatever frame the shiny is at. For example, if your shiny frame were 81, you'd have to advance it 30 times.

Also, if you have any more questions, VM me. I don't want to clog up this thread with all these posts X_X

Non DW Vulpix, to get a hidden ability through breeding, the female Pokemon has to breed with its male counterpart in order to pass down its ability. It still has a chance to not work though.

In your case you need a male vulpix. If your trying for shiny then you need a non english male vulpix.

Quick question. I'm no EV expert. I used vitamins on my Caterpie who I think was still level 1 at the time until I got the "it won't have an effect" message when I tried any of the vitamins. The EV feathers won't work either. So, is there anything else I can do to boost its stats besides theoretically fighting specific Pokemon that carry the EVs I want?

You can't boost its stat with vitamins once its EV's are equal to or over 100. So you can only use 10 on a Pokemon (10 EVs in each Vitamin) then you'll have to battle Pokemon to raise its EV's, to speed up the process, infect your Pokemon with pokerus and have it hold an item that promotes EV Gain (Power Items).

More info here: http://www.serebii.net/games/evs.shtml
Hope this helped :)

Thanks, that does help. How do I infect a Pokemon with Pokerus?

Two other questions, both related to each other:

1. I move a Pokemon from a generation IV game to a generation V game via the PokeShifter, will I be able to send it back? What I want to do is send a Hitokage from Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver to my Pokemon White, breed it, and send it back. Can I do that?

2. If I can't do this, can I breed the Hitokage in the generation IV game and send the egg permanently to my White game?

For the top part, just make sure you have a Pokemon with pokerus (either from trades - ask in quick trade thread maybe) or finding it in the wild by battling wild Pokemon, and then put that Pokemon in your party, then start battling with that Pokemon. After a few battles it'll have spread the pokerus around the party and boom, 6 of your Pokemon have pokerus. Just remember to box them after. :x

For one, nope they can't be sent back to gen IV and apparently eggs cannot be transferred, so... no. Unless you hatch it in your gen IV game, where there would be no issue.

EV Training Session

Ok, now that I got introduced to what is EV and such, I wanted to EV Train my pokemon for Competitive online battles. Now before I do so, I have some questions.

-How do I know which PkMn to Battle? I want to raise my Speed and Attack, so which Pokemons shall I fight exactly? And how do I know its the right one?

-I heard that EVs are gained by defeating Pokemons everytime, so, does that mean leveling Up fast isn't good? Does that mean leveling up is not important, but killing the pokemon is? If so, does this mean I will get tons of EVs if I fight a low lvl Pokemon but that has a good Attack stats (I won't lvl up fast, but will grind many points out of all the pokemons).

Thanks for your help

If so, does this mean I will get tons of EVs if I fight a low lvl Pokemon but that has a good Attack stats (I won't lvl up fast, but will grind many points out of all the pokemons).

Thanks for your help

Well for the first part, in Black and White, Basculin is good for Speed & Lillipup/Patrat are good for Attack - have a look at the Black and White FAQ for some more information in general - it has detailed information on ev training in these games which can be applied to past ones too.

Levelling up is important, yes, but if you're going to grind it's best to do that afterwards incase you fight the wrong Pokemon throwing off your ev training completely. But yes, you only need to fight a certain amount of low level Pokemon and your evs go up after each battle, so it's not that you need to grind a lot to ev train well. :)

Why would you want Double Kick? It sucks
They are both in the same egg group, so yes, they can breed.

Well I thought of getting it first but now that I saw all my Infernapes BETTER moves, I neglected it. And yeah it sucks.

Ok, I am in my EV training now, so, here is another question.

Do anyone know which Unova Pokemon can give me 2-3 Attack EV?
Training with the Patrat and Lilipup is Kinda Slow especially with no PkRs and Power Brace. I don't want the power brace since I am EV training for speed as well.

Power brace only cuts speed in battle, not the stat itself. All power items cut speed since I'm guessing their 'heavy'. Anyways patrat and lillipup is your best option. To max attack, use 10 proteins on a Pokemon (100 EV's), Infect the Pokemon with Pokerus (I can do that for you) Obtain a power bracer and equip it on your Pokemon. Then you'll have to fight 15 patrat/lillipups (150 EV's) that makes a total of 250 EV's, take off the bracer and fight 1 more patrat/lillipup (2 EV's) and you will now have a total of 252 EV's in attack!

EV Training speed and HP is faster though since patrat/lillpup give +1 EV's, Basculin (speed) and Stunfisk (HP) Give +2 EV's. So repeat what I said with patrat/lillipup but give it 10 carbos/Hp Up and replace power bracer with power anklet/weight. Defeat 12 Basculin/Stunfisk with power anklet/weight and 2 without the power anklet/weight and you'll have 252 EV's in Speed/HP.

Hopefully I made sense! :P

Ok, ok , ok....Are you saying the power items don't cut Speed Stat? only in battle? So all I do is give my pkmn a power brace or whatever its called and I will get ~5EVs in attack from a Lillipup?! If so, THAT'S SO AWESOME!

Yeah, you will get 5 EVs in the attack stat fighting a Lillipup/Patrat with power bracer. Power items DO NOT cut speed stats, only in battle. :) Also if your Pokemon has Pokerus you will get +10 EVs for each Lillipup/Patrat knocked out. So thats only 15 Lillipup/Patrat needed till 250 EV's (provided that you used 10 proteins on the Pokemon) and then 1 more Lillipup/Patrat without power bracer for the last 2 EV's.

After a few battles it'll have spread the pokerus around the party and boom, 6 of your Pokemon have pokerus. Just remember to box them after. :x

Pokerus would be very hard to come by on my own, right? So the only dependable way to get it would be to trade with someone who has it?

Yep, coming across Pokerus is very rare, not as rare as a shiny if I'm correct, you will need to trade with someone in the trade corner who offers pokerus, many do, including me.

I have pokerus on my pokemon and would be happy to make a trade. btw, How do you use the Wifi Room? I tried going in with a friend overseas, and he didn't show up in the room. We've both registered each other in our Pal Pads and tried reentering the room, but it still doesn't work. Any help please?

Also, is there any way to make a request on the GTS for a pokemon you haven't 'seen' or a have a picture of in the pokedex?

For spA, go to Celestial Tower, everything you fight = spA evs.
Aaand for speed, go to route 3, you'll find Basculin & Blitzle there as well as Woobat in the cave nearby. :)

Scyther/Scizor on white

This isn't a trade request, its just a question.
Is it possible to trade a scyther to white early in the game? Im on my way to get my 4th badge, and id really like to level up and play with a scyther as I go the storyline in white.
I was just wondering if it was possible because on my gf's soulsilver I traded her all her level 30+ Pokemon from her sapphire and she was only on her 6th badge. I dont want to wait until I can poke transfer because that kind defeats the purpose of me wanting to go through the storyline with the scyther.

If someone with Black and White has a Scyther, then yes, but any other games, you cannot til post-game. The quick trade thread can be useful for that, so you could try and see if anyone will help you out there.

I reckon it's possible to get one through the dream world. It'll probably take a lot of Dream Points though.

I can't figure out how to trade and or battle with somebody on pkmn white. (Not with somebody in the same room, i mean in another state)
I know you go to the poke-center but which of the 3 "doors" do I go to?

You speak to the middle person. They will allow you to go into Wifi. If you have never been in before; they'll connect you to your Wifi and then you'll leave. That's when you get your Friend Code etc..

Unless you use an AR or Pokesav, you can't find out yourself unfortunately. You have to start from scratch with a Pokemon (or use EV-reducing berries down to 0) and then count from there.

The Pokemon they give out are based on the number of votes for the specified event and are replicas of Pokemon given away at the events. It's up to you to decide if this is a hack or not--the site functions similarly to the way official events run (and distribute official-looking Pokemon), but isn't official. However, they make and transmit them the same way the events do, so there's really no difference except who is giving them out.

It's a nice idea for players who live in areas without events (since their Wi-Fi is global), but it gets out of hand because you can get infinite of any Pokemon they are currently giving out on one cartridge. But then again, what's stopping you from bringing more than one cart to an actual event?

However, it's generally good form to avoid redistributing / trading the Pokemon. PokeStation was made to help players obtain events they couldn't get normally, not give you bargaining chips for other valued Pokemon. You are intended to keep what you get for yourself--not depreciate the value of everyone else's hard-earned event Pokemon. Plus, the added kind-of controversy about it should be avoided too. So yeah, keep them for yourself, train them, battle with them, breed them, but don't trade them.

The events we distribute are recieved from the official events. We extract the .pkm after recieving the Wonder Card & upload them to our servers. Our Event Database is 100% legit events only, we don't upload any which are not legit.

We also host the official .pgf (.pcd & .pgt for DP/Pt/HG/SS) files for the Wonder Cards.

I do hope this clears up the discusion of whether our events are legit or not. :)

what is the best flying type to catch in the game?

I want a really good flying type Pokemon in my party, which in Black & White is the best one to have? and where can I find it?

Early on you can get Pidove @ Route 3, but from what I've heard it doesn't carry through that well in-game. Woobat can be okay @ first cave you'll see, but considering most of Plasma has dark types, probably not useful for you. Sigilyph @ Desert Resort, same sort of issue as Woobat really but Magic Guard can be really useful. :x Archen is apparently useful and found in Route 4 @ the Desert Resort in that tower there, so somewhat early on. Next flying type you'll find is Ducklett which can be useful for the gym leader around there (Driftveil) but otherwise doesn't really prove an advantage overall. Finally you have Rufflet's line and Vullaby's line, both pretty good imo and found in Route 10, so really late in the game. And then there's the flying genies which are found around Unova after the 8th gym so you're probably not going to go with them. Either way, merging to Quick Questions for more thoughts which is where this belongs next time.

I ended up using my Pidove (which eventually became Unfezant) through the entire game from the start. Worked fine for me. As for Archen, I got Tirtouga instead :D

Because each one has different letters. It's like a serial number. The only bit that matters is 'USA' meaning it's from the United States. Like 'JPN' is Japan and 'EUR' is Europe.

TWL means for the DSi and above (aka region-locked), while NTR means for the original Nintendo DS (aka not-region locked).

In other words you can play the one you brought online on any version of the DS (either Japanese etc).

lol didn't see this before :x

Region-locking only applies if you're playing a DSi or above, so yes although B/W are primarily made for that system (aka why they have TWL) they can play in a normal DS no matter whether they're Japanese or English.

Not entirely sure why your other version would have NTR though. :x Actually, all versions are meant to be TWL so it seems you have a fake..

In other words as long as you continue playing your normal DS none of this matters - however if you go up to DSi you won't be able to play the Japanese versions on it.

how to back up my game?

Hi, I've been playing pokemon since silver and have thousands of hours of work on my pearl file. I want to migrate everything to white but I'm starting to worry, what if something happens to my game at some point and it stops working, I would lose years of work. So I started googling how to back up a pokemon white (or pearl) file onto your PC. Several sites said I needed a "flash cart" and some toolkits that you can download, but the whole thing seems extremely complicated.

Is there a way to back up my pokemon game onto my computer, and restore it again if anything happened to my game? I have the retail version of pearl and am going to buy white this weekend. I don't want ROMs (actually I don't really know what ROMs are to be honest), I'm talking only about the retail cartridges (not emulators), I don't want to cheat in ANY way or edit my game, I just want to back it up. Please help, I am good with computers but know very little about the DS. I didn't know what a flash cart was until I googled it today. I don't want to spend more than $50 on accessories for this. I do already have a Micro SD card. Is there a safe, easy, reliable way to just back up my stuff and potentially restore it later?

Thanks alot, I did a search on the forum but didn't find a thread looking for the same thing.

I was wondering if it was against the rules to ask about RNG'ing, if not, would anyone know where I could find a guide that actually works? I would love to try RNG'ing for myself.
