B/W Graphics
The developers of Pokemon B/W did an excellent job. I'm playing through Pokemon White, and one thing about the game that I'm really impressed with is the graphics. The environments have much more depth and detail. The games have really come a long way. I can't wait to see how the changing seasons affect the look of the game.
What do you think of the Black & White graphic style? |
The graphics are awesome. My jaw dropped when I saw Castellia City.
|
I definitely agree with Michael (I'm agreeing with myself? O_O"). The graphics are pretty much at their peak. How everything is redone is just jaw dropping.
|
They could definitely be better but I'm happy with them.
|
I'm more impressed with how much character they put into the battle animations... little things like Darumaka tucking his arms in and sitting there like a doll, or Scraggy pulling his shorts up over his whole body and letting them fall back down.
I like little stuff like that... but the graphics and environments themselves are nice too. Even the Routes feel like they have more character and depth. |
From what I've seen from the B/W YouTube videos (I don't have the games yet), the B/W graphics are incredible; they're a step above Gen IV's graphics.
|
The graphics are so-so. It's great when there is a cut scene and some of the cities are nice c:
|
the graphics are good. My only complaint is when youre battling and your pokemon looked pixeled. anyone else notice this?
|
I love the graphics, Castelia city was amazing. XD
|
The graphics are awesome. I mean, the game actually feels 3D, unlike the failed 3D attempts they made at the 4th generation. The textures are great too, and I love how the Pokemon are animated. The games are masterpieces, and their graphics are pure art.
|
I love the graphics. Castelia City :D
But something keeps telling me that the graphic's aren't that much different from D/P/Pt... -Totodile42 |

I love Sky Arrow Bridge. I could run about on it all day :D |
I'm so impressed that i thought that i should of payed more!
|
I'm not sure what to say.
But it's certainly better than Pokémon Diamond! |
I really like them. I made the world feel more alive, no to say it felt more "real". Just everything had so much better detail and feeling to it or them; than previous handheld pokemon game.
I would mos def give this game 10/10. Wonderful. Nostalgic. Fun. Brilliant. Pokemon. |
I really like the graphics for the city's and the routes. I also like the small details of in battle pokémon. I can't wait to see the seasonal changes as well, I think it'll be really nice because it will set a certain feel to the game with each change. The cut scenes look great and I really love the intro when you first turn on the game actually. But, one thing I'm not too fond of is the back side of your pokémon when you battle. It looks weird. :/
|
The graphics are pretty much the same when it comes to the cities and towns, they just shifted the camera angle to make it look different.
But I do like the battle animations a lot more. |
I love the battle animations the most. Battles look so much better and go much faster too
|
I would say they are a HUGE step up as there have been not only upgraded, (Castella City and Victory Road being prime examples.) but also some graphical glitches have been fixed up, so they are certainly the best looking pokemon games (Excluding Battle Revolution) yet.
|
The graphics are intense in this game (Castelia City, I'm looking at you), especially the way the camera pans around and turns allowing for a greater sense of scale.
I also like the way that the new camera style allows for things like the curved roads in Castelia and the circular rooms in Dragonspiral Tower. [EDIT] I forgot to mention the new, animated battle sprites; they make the whole experience seem more alive and dynamic. My only problem is the backsprites though. They seem to have designed them in such a way that you only ever see them non-pixelated is when the are initially thrown out and in the 'Dex. The other way around would have made a bit more sense, but it's not a big problem. |

Im playing on a DS Lite. |
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the graphics. the random 3D parts of your journey-- especially the Sky Bridge and the Nimbasa Gym... AMAZING. I had so much fun on the little track ride in Nibmasa's gym. Walking along the Sky Bridge has been the peak of my adventure, so far (as far as the enviornment features go). I love the battle animations, although I HATE, I HATE, I HATE how pixelated and crappy the hind view of your Pokemon looks, when in battle. I also hate that the Pokemon follow and the use of the Pokewalker weren't continued onto B&W. I really loved those features, and I thought they'd be a prolonged piece of Pokemon forever! I'm impressed with about 85% of the new pokes. They're very good. Better than I imagined. I really wanted to be able to use my Pokewalker forever ): Soul Silver is the best Pokemon game in my opinion, but the girl and the boy in Unova are my favorite player designs, so far!
I'm sure some of you "indie," classic gamers love the pixelation of the backsprites, but personally... I hate it more than anything and it actually makes the game a bit less awesome ): Maybe I'm being a whiner, but I miss the old, crisp graphics on the backsprites. Please put them back in, in the next game! |

Outside the battle, I'm not sure if I like the graphics or not; The sprites look much better than Gen IV's sprites, but I feel like the scenery has sort of lost it's "Pokémon" feel. I guess I can't complain though, it still looks awesome. |

I think the graphics are pretty astonishing this gen. I love the small details in the floor tiles in certain places (especially in Pinwheel Forest). |
I bought the game mostly for the beautiful graphics. I love the bridges, buildings, and especially the towers. I could train in Dragonspiral Tower for hours and not be bored. :3

I can dig that. I understand where you're coming from! But, Pokemon is evolving and "improving"/updating, just like everything else in the world is. |
I'm quite impressed on how the battle scenario was made in the game. I mean, triple battling? That's something. Also the animated sprites, to be quite honest, are a lot better than the 4th generation games.
|
I think they really pushed the DS graphics, which isn't too much of a surprise. Anytime the next device comes out (the 3DS in this case) the previous generation output is maximized. They've mastered the DS hardware.
|
The backsprites are scaled up so that they manage they can fill the screen to a reasonable degree in the battle sequences - leaving them at a regular size would make your side of the field seem sparse, while drawing backsprites natively at such a large size would take forever.
(And there's also the matter that Pokémon Musical sequences use the back and front sprites together to improve the impression of movement, and that wouldn't work if the back sprites weren't the same size as the front ones) |

Maybe it's because I haven't gotten too far into the game yet, but the graphics look like D/P/PT Graphics to me. The graphics in battle have really improved though.
|
I dunno. Sometimes when I move, I get some strange graphic issues like NPCs with holed eyes so they look like zombies. It's kinda bothersome.
Also seems pixellish sometimes, and blurry. I love the battles, though. |
The graphics in the fifth generation improve upon the later fourth generation games. I especially like the battle graphics, aside from the backsprite resolution - I do understand that VRAM can run out, though. As for the overworld - much nicer than HGSS, and definitely better than Platinum. (Castelia City... I will never forget. Or all the bridges.)
|
I don't like the way they did White Forest and Black City, or how pixilated your Pokemon are in battle but other than that, amazing!
|
Graphics are really nice, they are vibrant and detailed.
Love the animations to each pokemon. :D |
I only like the battle graphics but hate everything else, the taller characters look awkward too.
|
The environment like the Routes, etc. looks impressive but actually not much of an advance compared to 4th Gen. The 3D still looks a bit 'emulated' and the taller characters look very skinny... (Big head, too slim body).
The battles are great with the animations of the Pokémon, they let them be alive somehow. I think they really overtopped themselves. The idea with the seasons is great and that the areas change that noticeable is also great but still it's not blowing my mind away :D But I guess that's because they have to keep that cute charm, players are familiar with and only can do bigger changes from game to game. This time it was definately the character design which they want to improve. |
I sometimes think the 2D sprites don't scale very well...
but overall I think the direction of some of the 3D scenes is very good and I love the new battle animations. I like the fact that when pokemon with eyes are sent to sleep their eyes actually close. It's a real improvement and way past due. |

I love Castelia city :D I feel like I'm in a Final Fantasy game there to be honest ^^ And Sky Arrow Bridge blew my mind ^^
Ive noticed the pixelated backsprite too :( Its a small price to pay for the rest of the good graphics though n__n I love how all the gyms are different on the outside as well as the inside n.n Nimbassa and Driftveil gyms are pretty memorable to me n.n |
The graphics are awesome. I mean, it's the DS, man! What do you expect?
The graphics in B/W already reached its limit. So, they're awesome on a DS console. |

Myself, I'm totally in love with how they got everything to turn out. While everyone usually fawns over the stuff like the huge buildings in Castelia or pretty cities/landscapes or whatever, my favorite part is honestly the changes made to the battle system & sprites. Breathing, moving Pokemon are one step closer to what I would imagine them as if they were real. Plus, the background zooming around with moves and stuff is really cool imo. I love everything they did with the battle stuff. :DD |
Quote:
And yeah, the zoom in camera stuff and the huge skyscrapers are the best, yes, I mean, the best things in the whole game. I pretty impressed that Game Freak actually bothered to make a game good in terms of graphics. |
Graphics
Now i was looking at the graphics from pokemon black and white and comparing them to gen 4s. Now i like the new look of pokemon in gen 5 but i kinda miss the older style of the graphics so i was thinking why cant they combined the two. I was looking at some of the dream world art and i was wondering why cant they use that type of art in the game. What are your thoughts?
|
I really like the new change of graphis this generation.
But the pokemon were much more pixely in battle and the over world trainer sprites look werid from a certain angle. |

The graphics of B/W are amazing. Even though I don't have the games yet, I've seen videos about it and they were more breathtaking compared to the Gen IV games.
|
This time, GF took the Graphics of Pokemon to a whole new level. I've gotten used to the new graphics now, but I remember, everything was amazing when I started playing White.
|
Majority of everything is fine except the battle sequences.
I hate how they're a tad delayed as well as being too pixelated.. Not liking the depth. |
Quote:
Also, amazing graphics. I love it all. Now if they could be less pixelated on Skyarrow Bridge somewhow when zooming out... (I know, very unlikely D;) |
I don't really see much difference with the the actual quality of the graphics in BW, but I do love all the new camera angles they are using in this game. I love that they are do dynamic rather than that static camera we had in DPP
|
I love the graphics in Black and White. They are just awesome. Every thing looks great from the places to the Pokemon and Trainers. They really did an awesome job with the graphics.
|
Amazing. I love every pixel. The feel of the overall environmental settings is great. I love all the new camera angles, and uh.. all the move animations and sprite animations. I'm only through like 50% of the game, and I'm hoping for more. But yeah, they've done an amazing job with the graphics in B/W.
|
It was Awesome Specially when those cutscenes occur...
|
the graphics are absolutely amazing i played on skyarrow bridge and a few other places just because it was so awesome. then the seasons just make the game more real.

I don't know if I'd call the graphics amazing (quite basic pixel art), but I can say that the animations are fantastic.
|
The animations aren't particularly amazing either - they're clearly constrained by both the DS's graphics memory and the amount of time they had to work on each Pokémon.
|
the zooming in and out and manipulation of the camera creates depth in a pokemon world for the first time. battle animations are the best i've seen but the back sprites irk me more than usual in B/W
|
Animated battle sprites are awesome, especially when pokemon actually closes their eyes when they're asleep. But their animated sprites moves normally when they're paralyze...so that could be improve.
|
I played yellow for a little bit a few days ago and it's crazy how much the game/graphics have changed since then. This game looks so good graphic wise.
|
I think the graphic are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I loved the graphics as soon as I saw the bedroom. The pokemon battles are soo fun now, with the endless animations, and the cities are so 3D, idk how the 3
ds could top that. I love being on the bridges, and the different camera angles show, and one of my favourite 3D effects was running up the stairs in Celestial Tower. I thought it looked so heaven like, and the perspective was really good. I think they nailed this game in terms of camera angles/graphics! |
really pixeled, but still delicous.
|
The graphics in Black and White are so awesome. They look great. I love all the detail there is in the graphics and all the camera angles too.
|
For the DS? And not evne the DSi or 3DS? The graphics are simply amazing. It's like, the pinnacle of DS graphics. It's just /that/ good. I can't imagine DS graphics getting any better.
I think the next step is for them to get a higher resolution system and take advantage of the size to use more effects. But for now? They've /perfected/ the art. |
Meh. I thnk the camera was great. Still wish they waited for the 3DS. They would have been a lot better.
|
the new graphics are outstanding! i hope they remake r/s/e with graphics that good
|
I like the graphics too, but they have pretty much reached there limit with the DS, can't wait for Pokemon on the 3DS that should be good :D
|
I like almost everything but these two things the ow's don't look very 3dish some of the sprites look like they been repeated for example scoutland line looks very similar to pouchinia but neither less still practical.
|
It's graphics are really good and it's clear is well. When you battle it's not that good because you see pixels on the pokemon your useing isn't that good but a well.
