It's been a while, huh?

You know, I was just going over the Fifth Generation Speculation thread, and I thought "Damn. It's been a year ever since we were in the dark about this gen." I mean, we were thinking all kinds of stuff, like changing your clothes, having a closet, a eating function, etc.

You can visit it here, and laugh the entire way as I did. Be warned though, some members where in their noob days...so here you go: http://174.133.255.180/showthread.php?t=207223

So, what were your previous expectations of Generation Five? And did they come true/come close to be true?

Dominus Temporis March 17th, 2011 1:29 AM

Oh man, I flipped through some of that thread and now memories are coming back to me. Like some of the ludicrous theories as to what the starters were before they were revealed. There was a huge debate somewhere, maybe not on this site, as to whether Tepig was a pig or a rabbit.

I'd say "those were the days" but I'm glad they're over...

Oh, and remember when we had no idea what Galvantula and Cofagrigus looked like beyond glimpses of their backsprites, and they were the ones everyone wanted to see? And people were insisting Galvantula wasn't an Electric-type?

I had but one expectation of this generation, and was willing to roll with everything else that was thrown at us. I wanted a drill mole.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with what I got there.

My expectations weren't off the charts about B/W. Even when there was a lot of talk about the games supposedly being "revolutionary" I took their words lightly. It didn't seem completely logical to me how the creators would go out of their way to break away the generic mechanisms of the Pokemon games thus far, and would at best only change a few things while keeping most of others the same.

But that didn't stop me actually enjoying Black and White, the story was refreshing and the characters are very much endearing. Even now I still busy myself with the games, especially seeing as you cannot transfer items from past games and would in turn need to work for the ones you find vital to your team.

I expected Pokemon like Farfetch'd, Pachirisu and Luvdisc to get new evolved forms, but sadly, that didn't happen. Let's hope GF does that in Gen VI.

That's not likely to happen. Gen V is a reboot, remember?

Meganium March 17th, 2011 6:27 AM

I kinda expected that Gen. V would be the same as Gen.IV. But once I learned about it a lot more it really pulled me into it as other generations like 3 & 4 have failed to do so. So, I was quite clueless back then.

Kenshin5 March 17th, 2011 6:29 AM

I just remember the speculation on a new type Light type because of Reshiram and the Zekrom would be Dark Type. Then when the typing were introduces everyone hopes on that were crushed. Then there was so much hate for the final evolutions of the starters cause a lot of people thought they were fakes including myself. I was hoping for a Dark type gym and that didn't come true, that was about the only expectation I remember.

Personally, I'm glad the surprise is over. But it was fun to debate issues.

Just have the rain falling the whole extent of the move and when it's over (however many turns that takes) the game can then announce "The rain stopped."
Awwwww. Seeing all the predictions from so long ago that came true makes me smile.

Ho-Oh March 17th, 2011 5:25 PM

asduhads omg, due to the lighting of the screenshots in this post, it seems so nostalgic. And I guess from that I assumed Castelia would be different due to the lighting there...XD

Anyway, I predicted that there would be a new duck and a professor called Willow (probably taken from somewhere), at least we got a female and a duck, though. :D Tbh most of my crazy predictions never came true due to them being so well, crazy. Half of which I didn't post.

Oh and the rumours thread is also good for insane theories about the games. XD Sooo much nostalgia, lol.
