インフェルノの津波 March 22nd, 2011 3:04 PM

Yes! I finally got a Adamant Golett with Iron Fist!

Anyway, training is always a pain.

Sweet Candace March 22nd, 2011 3:12 PM

I hated R/B/Y/LG/FR because of the huge level difference between Giovanni's strongest Pokemon and Loriel's weakest.

I couldn't even get halfway there to challenging Loriel before I restarted my game. Leveling up was so much easier in every other game though.

Skip Class March 22nd, 2011 3:29 PM

I swear Levels didn't matter so much when I was younger. Now it's all "I need to train my pokemon to at least LVLX before I face XGym Leader" I just battled whoever whenever back then XD

Sweet Candace March 22nd, 2011 3:31 PM

I wasn't the best Trainer when I first started out. I had one Pokemon that was so much stronger than the others. Now, I'm trying my hardest to balance out my team and have them all at the same level, which is more difficult to do.

Chibi-chan March 22nd, 2011 3:32 PM

When I first started playing Pokemon I wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was.

I don't mind level grinding as long as the combat is bearable, but it should still be destroyed. Only Final Fantasy Tactics has been forgiven for the grind.

I wanted to see exotic Kanto, the crown jewel of the Pokémon world. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture...and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill.

Chibi-chan March 22nd, 2011 3:46 PM

I watched a Caterpie crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream; that's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor... and surviving.

Jack O'Neill March 22nd, 2011 3:52 PM

Pallet Town. Crap, I'm still only in Pallet Town. Every time I think, I'm gonna wake up back in the forest, or alongside the road. When I was home after my first tour, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said "yes" to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there. When I was there, all I could think of was getting back on the road. I'm here a week now, waiting for a mission, getting softer. Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Team Rocket squats in the bush, it gets stronger. Each time I looked around, the walls moved in a little tighter.

Chibi-chan March 22nd, 2011 3:58 PM

On the lake, I thought that the minute I looked at him, I'd know what to do, but it didn't happen. I was in there with him for days, not under guard; I was free, but he knew I wasn't going anywhere. He knew more about what I was going to do than I did. If the trainers back in Mahogany Town could see what I saw, would they still want me to kill him? More than ever, probably. And what would the Gyarados back home want if they ever learned just how far from them he'd really gone? He broke from them, and then he broke from himself. I'd never seen a shiny Gyarados so broken up and ripped apart.

Captain Fabio March 22nd, 2011 4:00 PM

What are you two on about? XD

You might be tempted to lynch me for my answer to that question. I have not seen it. Nor have I beaten the game yet.

I do agree with you about my avatar, though.

I forget if I properly credited it or not. I should check that quick.

Gogogogo! Beat the game! It's much better x100000 than the OVA.
And don't play the sequel. It never happened.

Well, she's the one who did some of the final touches on it. I think the original piece was a rip of sprites from a fan game or something like that done by someone else.

Zeffy March 22nd, 2011 6:38 PM

Oh how I wish a was a great graphics editor. Oh well, maybe I could use a bit more practice...and someone to teach me properly. D:

WriteThemWrong March 22nd, 2011 9:54 PM

where would we be without our artists

Signomi March 22nd, 2011 11:04 PM

Did somebody say art? :o

I pretty much juggle both drawing and making graphics, they're both enjoyable and usually have great results if I try hard enough.

moments. March 23rd, 2011 12:13 AM

I used to be really in to graphics, but I am moving on, no longer have motivation to do it and want to pursue interests in film instead...

Skip Class March 23rd, 2011 12:38 AM

meh I'm still on a 4 month GFX block (fail sig atm) that's why I've moved on to Digital Art for now till I can get back my motivation

moments. March 23rd, 2011 12:39 AM

Digital art as in like using a tablet or something to draw?

Signomi March 23rd, 2011 12:54 AM

Speaking of tablet, I'd love to get one that's actually A4 sized. I've got two tablets at the moment they're rather small and a bit inconvenient to draw with if I wanted to go a bit large scale.

インフェルノの津波 March 23rd, 2011 1:16 AM

I have no idea what any of you are talking about, just what the hell is a tablet?

Arlen March 23rd, 2011 1:34 AM

A tablet is basically a small rectangular touch pad like your laptop but they usually come in bigger sizes and are external to your computer, you basically use a pen on it and that draws onto your computer. Pretty handy if you do comics and things like that.

But as for me, I'm a photography person :D
I just cant be bothered taking the time to put my photographs up in the graphics section because photobucket takes ages to upload :Q.

Ninja Caterpie March 23rd, 2011 1:38 AM

yeah.... I want a tablet :x doing scribble is more fun with a tablet.

Zeffy March 23rd, 2011 1:54 AM

A tablet. You all remind me of the tablet again. *sigh*
I've been wanting one for the past year. :U

So grateful, you posted it twice! Although by the time I post this, it'll nearly be 5pm in India (due to their time zone being GMT+ 5:30 and not any deviation of simply block hours).

I am in my Gaming Labs, setting up our 360s to download updates from a HTC wireless hotspot. Complicated stuff but we are sticking it to the man at IT services who said it was impossible to do and me and my tutor are doing it. LOL

It's snowing here right now. So much for spring, I guess. T___T

インフェルノの津波 March 23rd, 2011 5:03 AM

Okay then..Let's talk about music!

I like J-Rock!

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ March 23rd, 2011 5:18 AM

I like 80's love songs but I'm starting to get into J-Pop as well.

Captain Fabio March 23rd, 2011 5:22 AM

I am more of a Metal/Heavy Metal man myself.
I do love my guitar riffs and drums.

Saryka March 23rd, 2011 6:36 AM

I'll listen to anything, basically. I've become more open-minded with my music over the years (I remember a time when I thought all pop music was evil and I would have none of it but I've definitely loosened up over time). Not a huge hip-hop fan, though. I'll listen to the odd song here and there but it's just not my cup of tea.

Actually, what I'm really into right now is piano renditions of various songs, from pop songs to video game songs. I'm a huge piano nerd so it's really straight up my alley, haha. I feel that the piano can make any song sound beautiful.

Classic Heavy/Thrash Metal for me :D (no guttural vocals, kthnx)
I love the guitar solos.

Meganium March 23rd, 2011 7:35 AM

I'll listen to pretty much anything except for rap music. As long as the song doesn't have 90% curse words I'll ok with it. :P

Livewire March 23rd, 2011 7:39 AM

Mostly Rock, Alt rock, metal and alternative stuff for me - Rise Against, Chevelle, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Atreyu, Five Finger Death Punch, Seether, etc.

FFDP is so awesome!

I am yet to see them live, but I shall soon! :3

Meganium March 23rd, 2011 8:18 AM

Rise Against and Seether are among two of my top favorite bands! ^_^

Captain Fabio March 23rd, 2011 8:27 AM

One of my top favourite bands, even though they haven't made a new album since 2008 is Machine Head. :3

Cherrim March 23rd, 2011 8:44 AM

My only genre used to be alternative rock. I don't listen to any new stuff in that genre anymore, really. I'm more into pop (...and soundtracks) so whenever I do listen to rock it's usually old stuff from the 90s or 00s.

Mr Cat Dog March 23rd, 2011 9:02 AM

I listen to a varied selection of music, but don't really delve deep into any one section; as such, my music knowledge is very surface-level at best. Currently listening to a combination of Arcade Fire, Regina Spektor and The Beach Boys, depending on what mood I feel in!

Nick March 23rd, 2011 9:03 AM

@Nick: Omgggg. I looooove Atreyu!

~~~
Most of my top music is alternative, pop, and eventually go into soundtracks - but they should really just be scores, since most soundtracks I have are just instrumental soundtracks to movies or television shows.
@Erica: Damn girl, keep up with the times. lmao you sound like my dad! :(
Cherrim March 23rd, 2011 9:08 AM
But keeping up with the times has me listening to Justin Bieber which most of my friends and family have agreed is a bad thing. 8(
Nick March 23rd, 2011 9:11 AM
Yeaaaaah, about that, Erica.... :(((
You have an unhealthy obsession with him, and it's destroying you from the inside out.
Signomi March 23rd, 2011 9:11 AM
They wouldn't be the only one who agrees it's a bad thing. >:|
I don't confine myself to one genre of music because there tends to be such a range out there that I prefer diversity. Listening to the same kind of song over and over can make me feel as though I'm exhausting that genre too much and would be put off it for a while, so I'm definitely not a fan of doing that. @[email protected]
Livewire March 23rd, 2011 9:22 AM
I mostly gravitate to the same few songs and genres, but every now and then I'll hear something from the totally opposite side of the musical spectrum and I'll love it. Owl City, was an example.
Quote:
I SAID CALM YO TITS!!!!
I don't know anyone who outright confines themselves to one genre but surely you have a certain type of music you tend to listen to more than others.
For me the only genre I almost consistently dislike is country, haha.
I kid you not, more often than not I tend to play and shuffle through song collection that contains a variety of genres. I've tried staying true to just one genre a few years ago and that was mostly Synthpop, but that had the same effect on me as would keeping a song on repeat for hours on end. It became tedious. :\
Admittedly, there are times I become in the mood to listen to a string of songs from the same genre, I guess it depends on my mood at the end of the day. D;
Nick March 23rd, 2011 9:35 AM
Sort of related, when I'm listening to an album, I prefer the album to sound sort of the same. All the tracks on the album should sound somewhat similar for me to be able to listen to it all. It has to have some sort of synergy that brings it all together. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll listen to an album that doesn't have songs that sound kind of the same and enjoy it, but for me to really get into it, I need to have a sense of similarity. It's kind of weird, though, because my favorite album, The ArchAndroid, doesn't sound the same at all, but the tracks tie into eachother and... lol, rambling.
But I used to confine myself to alternative a few years back. I used to think pop was trashy.
Gabri March 23rd, 2011 9:38 AM
Justin Bieber. Kek.
Seriously, how the hell can he even be a singer.
I don't really care about if stuff is recent or not. I don't listen to a certain kind of music just because it's recent. If I like stuff released in the 80's or 90's, I listen to it. The best Metal stuff is from that era, for example.
Metal is my favourite genre, but sometimes I also find myself listening to some rock music, like Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Guns 'n' Roses, or even grunge like Pearl Jam. And other times, I even listen to something more into electronic like Pendulum.
But Megadeth is pure PWNAGE.
Genres I can't stand listening to are pop music and rap. Seriously. Get those away from me, kthnx.
Nick March 23rd, 2011 9:40 AM
Justin Bieber can sing. I think his voice, now that it's a little lower, is more appropriate for R&B than pop, though. His acoustic cover songs are nice.
Signomi March 23rd, 2011 9:42 AM
I don't really give a tossing turnip about Justin Bieber and his singing, what annoys me more is his immensely vast and obnoxious fan base.
That sounds really weird to me. I don't like mixing genres. I find it really disorienting when I'm listening to, say, orchestral music and the very next thing on shuffle is heavy metal and then to a pop ballad. D: It breaks my concentration so when I listen to music, I tend to just pick a CD or an album and put that on. If it's too repetitive, I might grab a few similar ones and put them on shuffle.
Really, I'd say it's the producer & mixer's faults if an album can't be listened to all the way through with ease. :( It's their (or SOMEONE'S, anyway) job to make sure it's mixed well and that each song flows into the next one fairly easily so that the only way the CD jolts you out of easy listening is if it's on purpose. u_u;
Nick March 23rd, 2011 9:44 AM
I totally agree. I think the main reason people dislike him so much is because of his fans stans. They're pretty crazy.
Edit: @Erica - I didn't know if anyone else who thought songs should sort of sound the same before!! Most of the time people complain that they sound similar, and I'm like, well... it IS an album. @[email protected]
The problem with music is that it's becoming much more of a business than an art. And that's really bad in my opinion.
Well if it gives my music arrangement a bit more clarity, I tend to not mix overwhelming contrasts together. Can't say I'm fond of anything that's too heavy and would ring my eardrums too much if I listened to it, especially straight after a fairly decent song. I suppose that's one reason why I'm not exactly fond of heavy metal music, or at least not mixed with the sort of playlist I like putting on. :<
インフェルノの津波 March 23rd, 2011 9:52 AM
Well, I can't sympathize with any of you. I was a music hater till I heard the sweet words coming off of Flow's lips.
It was love at first sound.
Cherrim March 23rd, 2011 9:54 AM
I hear ya. I'm not a very big fan of heavy metal either. D: Only band in the genre like is Iron Maiden and even then I only like... I guess some of their softer songs? Something like that. Most other heavy metal I hear just ends up sounding like noise to me. ._.
Well, I like Metallica too but apparently there are disputes that they're even in the genre. I always considered them more rock than metal anyway.
インフェルノの津波 March 23rd, 2011 9:57 AM
No offense to any of you, but at most times it is. I only listen to J-Pop/Rock because I somehow enjoy it more than English songs.
Alright, gotta go get Community Service Credit. See-ya.
Cherrim March 23rd, 2011 10:00 AM
J-Pop blurs together for me and I can't tell a lot of songs apart. I used to love it and J-Rock though. Now I only end up listening to songs or artists I find because they did an anime/game OP/ED that I liked though. :/
Signomi March 23rd, 2011 10:01 AM
I rather enjoy J-rock/pop as well, mostly because of Jorge's influence. And coming back to heavy metal, I can sympathise with you, Erica, when you say most heavy metal music you hear ends up sounding like noise. A lot of the time it's just a bunch of screaming and intense instruments that really enforce the ringing inside my ears.
I sometimes don't see where the appeal lies in this sort of music, but it's a taste for other people I guess.
Cherrim March 23rd, 2011 10:05 AM
Yeah, same. I know some people like it since a friend went through a phase of liking that and screamo and would often have me listen to that stuff too but it never once clicked for me. Mostly just gave me a headache. :(
WriteThemWrong March 23rd, 2011 10:06 AM
love songs for me, that's really all i listen to. i have a playlist of nothing but love songs and it's constantly playing. it has a lot of sinatra, dean martin, some maroon 5, and one lindsay lohan song
Signomi March 23rd, 2011 10:12 AM
Ah Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin... I grew up with those two and a couple of other vintage artists because my dad was and still is a big fan.
I get to deal with a brother who only enjoys heavy metal, and it's very frustrating. I don't understand how it's considered music, but yeah, I guess it's just a taste for other people. :/
I mean, some heavy metal is okay, but most of it isn't what I find tolerable.
Sweet Candace March 23rd, 2011 10:24 AM
The only music I really listen to the "hair bands" from the 80's. My dad and mom are fans of a lot of the famous rock bands from that time in music.
Well, I like Metallica too but apparently there are disputes that they're even in the genre. I always considered them more rock than metal anyway.
...you didn't listen to their first stuff, that's for sure.
Their albums Kill'em All (which was going to be named Metal Up Your Ass), Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are pure Thrash Metal. But then they started screwing up and going into more light stuff. St. Anger, for example, was a total piece of crap. But they are getting heavier again.
A lot of the time it's just a bunch of screaming and intense instruments that really enforce the ringing inside my ears.
I sometimes don't see where the appeal lies in this sort of music, but it's a taste for other people I guess.
A-a-a-a. Wowow. Stop. If you are talking about pure Heavy Metal, there is no screaming. At all. That's for Death Metal, Metalcore, and stuff like that. The voices in pure Heavy Metal are clean.
And the instrumental also depends. Amplified guitars are mandatory in Metal, but the speed and heaviness varies from style to style. Lightning-paced, heavy drum beats are almost never found in pure Heavy Metal too. I understand that the instrumental may be a bit much to whoever isn't used to it, but... yeah, it's a matter of getting used to it.
Even in Metal, there are certain songs it's absolutely impossible to dislike. Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden being one of them.
The appeal is exactly the instrumental part. Most of the best guitarists that have ever existed are/were Metal musicians. And most of the lyrics are really nice too, Metal bands talk about everything in their songs (Megadeth, for ex.)
Oh, hey, music discussion! :D
I can handle some screamo music, but nine times out of ten, it just...really hurts my ears. A lot of the groups that I listen to it don't even apparently do "real" screamo, which is fine, I guess. I know I could never stand heavy metal as a kid and...I still sorta can't, but I do have an appreciation for anything that happens to be well composed.
Proooobably in the same manner that any other form of modern music is considered music, but you'll still find older people and history in general would kinda laugh at the thought.
I typically enjoy...well, no real preference. I guess I would say either well produced hip hop, which means like 1% of what's out there, anything with a sexy guitar and bass line, and pop music. If it all somehow manages to combine into one ungodly beast of music, I'll probably like it more. I've also got a really strong love for jazz and electronic music. Again, combine them and I'm in heaven. Though I'll typically listen to anything as long as it doesn't give me a headache.
I've never been big on metal, but I don't dislike the genre. I have a few friends who really like metal music and I'd listen to it once in a while with them, but I never really got into it myself. Listening to it made me appreciate it, but not necessarily like it.
Going back to J-Pop, I used to listen to a lot of it back when I was 11-14 or so, but now I've narrowed it waaaay down to just, like, Utada Hikaru because I've gotten to a point where I like to really listen to the lyrics of a song, and well... I don't speak Japanese. XD; And like Erica said, it all blurs together and I end up being unable to tell them apart.
I really like putting my entire music library on iTunes on shuffle sometimes and see what songs come up. I like how I'd get, say, an Imogen Heap song next to something like Breaking Benjamin, and then back to something like Cobra Starship to an FFVII Piano Collections song. That's usually when I'm not in a mood for a particular genre and I really don't care what kind of songs I listen to, though. XD;
donavannj March 23rd, 2011 10:47 AM
Most of what people consider heavy metal is specifically screamo or death metal, or even just hard rock in some cases. In fact, I've even heard some Christian metal where the lyrics are mostly being screamed out. Though I find these songs fun to "sing" along with as a great way to relieve my stress, since I'm a person who likes to avoid yelling and screaming at people because of personal stress.
I can stand most genres, but if I get overexposed to a song (and various genres have different levels of exposure I can handle), I will complain or change the song/station every time I hear it.
Spherical Ice March 23rd, 2011 10:57 AM
Well my favourite band are Bon Jovi, so I guess you could say I like rock music - I do enjoy Boston and Europe, etc., but not modern rock - it's not as good imo. My music capacity isn't limited to the 80s though, aha, I do listen to the likes of Take That and The Plain White Ts, U2, etc. Idk, I guess I'm a pop/rock person. Heavy metal is just...idk. But I especially hate the screaming music. RnB and rap I can barely stand.
Even though I already knew that about you, high five for powerpop!
^ *high fives*
Although I think I made it very obvious a few years ago that I really liked them. XD;
Rap and hip-hop got me into music. Now I don't listen to it as much anymore, but I still check out new songs every once in a while. Most of my music is pop or all the various forms of rock, but I have a bit of probably nearly every genre except for screamo, electronic, and country.
I think people who flat-out deny any genre as being "true music" should try being less close-minded. I always hear about rap being the bane of music. Rap isn't always about girls and money, and there are some artists that don't follow the typical rapper stereotype. To say all rap is horrible is ignorant.
Bloo March 23rd, 2011 3:58 PM
I got into music when I was much younger and it was mostly pop, I never really liked rap or hip-hop, mostly just pop. I even had a Hannah Montana obsession when I was like, 9 D:
Now my favorite type of music is punk rock, and my favorite band is My Chemical Romance (hater gon' hate) because I really like all of their songs. I mean literally ALL of them. I also like screamo, at least the sort that I can understand, and I also still listen to pop. I also like Electronic music. I like Owl City also, I honestly think his project just got popular rather than being made for something like that because he seems to retain the meaning in his songs.
I wasn't really into music when I was younger, it was only when I started to get into my early teens that I started to live by it! XD
I had been playing the piano since I was 8 and I really did enjoy it. Then I started to listen to metal music when I was about 13, and I loved it so much. I still kept up playing the piano, since I loved playing it! XD
I took my 5th grade playing and theory test for piano then stopped getting lessons, because I could teach myself the pieces at that point.
Then I started to pick up a guitar and play the drums, and I love them to this day. Self taught guitar and drums! :3
tl;dr version - From 13 I couldn't live without music.
Zeffy March 23rd, 2011 6:52 PM
Ehh, music. I like music. I dream of being a composer. Too bad, I don't know if that will ever happen. I hope it does, though.
Saryka March 23rd, 2011 7:06 PM
I didn't really listen to music when I was a kid and I don't know why. :( I wasn't really even into pop groups like the Spice Girls at the time. The only people I remember liking were Britney Spears and Aqua. This probably explains why I'm still a bit of a Britney stan these days haha.
I started playing the piano when I was six years old, and I got pretty far, even almost skipping a grade. I quit when I was ten years old, before I could skip that grade though haha. Actually, I didn't get back into lessons until I was seventeen, so it's only been a year and a half and I'm glad that it didn't take me very long to catch up. Playing the piano is such a wonderful escape, and it's so much fun, too. :)
Zeffy March 23rd, 2011 7:18 PM
Reminds me when I had a piano when I was a kid. It was just a toy, but it produces real piano music. Ehh, I was 6 back then and the only song I could play was "Happy Birthday". Then I got a guitar last year. Well, right now, I'm in no mood for instruments.
Saryka March 23rd, 2011 7:20 PM
I fail at the guitar. x_x; I've been trying to play since I was thirteen and I could never grasp it for some reason. It sucks because I really want to play. I have this guitar I bought when I was thirteen and I hardly use it, haha.
Zeffy March 23rd, 2011 7:25 PM
Well, its pretty easy once you get used to it. You just have to flow with the music. xD
Livewire March 23rd, 2011 7:26 PM
I really have no musical talent whatsoever. I couldn't play a tune to save my life. x__x
JeXsus™ March 23rd, 2011 7:28 PM
I love to play my guitar. I'm not amazing at it, but it doesn't stop me. ^_^
I play acoustic covers and I mostly free play. I can also sing so it's more fun.
