This is probably one of the most confusing things about this site, but it's basically this:

Very close friends. You can even pair with others and make a group if you'd like. Hell, if you like them enough you might meet in real life.

I don't think anyone would do that..

I'm quoting exact text from the FAQ:
Quote:

The action of pairing is often when two forum members, usually good friends, get together. This can either be in a romantic way (as in, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.) or as a platonic way to show friendship. People often write who they're paired with in their signatures. To pair, PM or contact the person whom you would like to pair with and if you mutually agree on it, you can post in this thread to record it.
I hope that helps. :)

I wouldn't mind meeting my pair in real life, she's a pretty cool girl.

You'd actually be surprised! There's a lot of pairs here that met on here, and then met up afterwords IRL at a convention, or on their own. I can think of a few off the top of my head that's developed into a very meaningful and loving relationship.

Of course, but then again.. how do you know that person is who it is? ^o)

There's Skype, Facebook, texting, etc. Not everyone on the internet is out to getcha. ;)

I meant offline :P

And it's easy for people to pretend to be who they aren't.. >.>

What confuses me are people who advertise that they're looking for a pair...is that like advertising that you want a friend? ._.

@Complans: Once you've been on the internet enough, it gets easier to tell. Such as if you have phone conversation, skype video calls, know their friends, know about their life, etc, it's much less likely that they're "out to getcha". I knew some people on my old MMO that were in a relationship, but still called each other by their usernames. That's entirely different from what a serious online relationship is like. A serious online relationship involves so much intimacy of communication (not that way, mind out of the gutter) and dedication that it's nearly impossible to get that far into it without knowing something is wrong.

Not that I'm even in an online relationship, lol. Just pointing that out.

We being social animals, many people simply like to be 'in'. Having pairs could be construed as being fashionable... subconsciously, of course; people aren't usually too switched on about their base desires.

Melody March 22nd, 2011 12:24 PM

Yes, and in a sense, if someone is advertising that they want a pair then they're letting their unpaired close friends know it's all clear to do so.

I know that anyone I've ever paired with, had been a very good friend at the time. Pairing can be romantic yes, but it's not always the case. Even if sometimes I'm a lot more willing than most people are at expressing my own feelings for my pairs
