What did you think of 'King' N?

As title suggests, what did you think of the whole 'King' idea?
The past generations never had a king for the head antagonist, they usually had a boss like Giovanni.

So did you like the idea of a 'King'? If you want say why you did/didn't like the idea.

Personally I didn't like the fact that they brought in a king. A king just doesn't really fit the Pokemon genre for me =/

PlatinumDude March 26th, 2011 11:02 PM

The "king" title suits N to an extent because the Team Plasma grunts have clothes that resemble the medieval days.

The Nightmare March 26th, 2011 11:03 PM

I think it is actually better then having Ghetsis as King because Ghetsis is kinda more evil than N.

Satoshi Ookami March 26th, 2011 11:35 PM

If anyone, N deserves that title for sure.
BW was supposed to be revolutionary and it really is.
So why don't we have pokemon world's king? :D
So I liked that idea =)

Misheard Whisper March 26th, 2011 11:43 PM

N should be a prince instead . . . because that means I get to be the princess.

hackerofdarkness March 27th, 2011 7:51 AM

I believe he deserves it for being a peace loving person but all he wanted to do was free pokemons and he cares deeply about them, that's simply how a king cares about his fellow nobles.

trespasser March 27th, 2011 8:19 AM

I like it, but the idea of the Seven Sages is kinda weird. :P

Tetra March 27th, 2011 8:25 AM

Accually, I quite like it. Because it's supposed to be a new reigon, far away from the others.

Xyrin March 27th, 2011 8:27 AM

I thought he was a lord (sounds better) but I happen to like it. It's just like what the others said, far away.

Ho-Oh April 7th, 2011 7:57 AM

I was thinking about this earlier today and I realised that the king title DOES suit him, because with a king you inherit things, etc, and really, N inherited Team Plasma's history. Although they failed ultimately, he'll always be remembered for being the one destined to make a change...if that makes sense. Much better than just a boring Plasma admin!

Uber Legend April 7th, 2011 8:21 AM

I like the idea! I love old medieval stuff and whatnot. Yeah, it's definitely better than Plasma Admin. Ugh -_-

Notworking15 April 7th, 2011 8:56 AM

when i hear "king" in a game, (this one or another) i always think "power-hungry freak who needs to be overthrown and destroyed". N was a good guy, but since he was being used by Ghetsis, he would have been a "abusing your power" kind. or a type with good intention, but evil execution...

"You're the Team Plasma Admin? What does that mean?"
"Oh, mostly managerial work, I fill out a lot of forms...I also make sure the budget is on target every year, and hold meetings with Team Plasma stockholders to pass their ideas on to the Grunt Manager."
"Sounds like...fun..."

shengar April 8th, 2011 4:12 PM

Yeah, King suit him Perfectly. Just as Ghetsis, the corrupt archbishop that hold higher power than their king.

Corvus of the Black Night April 8th, 2011 4:45 PM

When I first saw N. I was like this.

Then I was like. "Yeah whatever, King works I guess. He's still pretty damn "Heart" though for a villain."

Pokemon Trainer Touko April 9th, 2011 2:56 AM

I don't really like the idea of him being the 'King' of team Plasma. I think he's too young to be a king.

It would be better if he was the Prince. :3

Dark Piplup April 9th, 2011 5:20 AM

I think he just doesn't look like a king. And he's too young. Besides he was tricked into the whole thing. Though IMO Ghetsis looks a lot like a king.

Neeni April 9th, 2011 5:54 AM

Should've been a [ Prince ] :3
"King" just doesn't fit and he doesn't act like one..

SonGohan April 9th, 2011 10:51 AM

If anyone is to be king it really should be Ghetsis. I agree and say that N seems too young to be the king of anything and should've succeeded that role after his father.

Blastin'Tyruntz April 9th, 2011 11:01 AM

i didn't liked it.
the region is a HIGH-TECH region, but they still have a king like the medieval days???
thats odd

Ho-Oh December 5th, 2012 6:45 AM

So I wanted to recreate this thread earlier but I figured it'd be easier if we just made it an ongoing discussion, woo! Anyway so while there's the normal thread asking about what's so good about N, this thread is rather about his title of a King and whether you felt it was appropriate for Pokemon, so there is a difference! Remember older posters likely won't reply but feel free to discuss with newer posters,

At first, when I saw the cutscene thing before the main menu, I thought it seemed awesome, his whole coronation, and it seemed incredibly intriguing. I found the whole "king thing" to be a little cultish, and weird for pokemon lateer on though. I still thought the whole thing was cool, but with the sages and the blind faith, it felt a little..strong? I don't know what word I'm looking for. I like the idea, I just feel it was a little intense/unexpected maybe? But I also feel like it was good for those reasons showing that maturity in pokemon games and amping up the games. :D

I mostly agree with Golurk on this one.

I have to admit that while the opening cutscene was different from other games, it was a fun one to watch. I was thinking "What the heck we have a king in the Pokemon games? This can't be right." but when I read more about N's backstory I eventually found out how interesting this was.

I did like the idea of N as king, but it did feel a little unexpected, especially for franchise newcomers. However, it also has a mature side to it, which totally accommodated the older gamers like myself and also added that dark twist to it.

Serperion December 15th, 2012 2:44 AM

I don't know about king I saw some other posts saying prince however his teams didn't truly suit royalty I mean

Zekrom/Reshiram, Carracosta, Archeops, Klinklang, Zoroark & Vanilluxe

its not really royal or medieval since if we go by chess standards which are
King, Queen, Knight, Bishop, Rook & Pawn
This team may have fitted better

Zekrom/Reshiram, Lilligant, Stoutland, Bisharp, Golurk, Durant

but that's just my opinion

Rivvon December 15th, 2012 1:45 PM

I thought it was great that N was described as a King. It further connected him to the two princes who founded Unova, and it's hinted that he descends from the ancient king that could communicate to Pokemon.

No one is really sure about how the government works in the Pokemon world, but I think that all the talk of kings and princes gives a lot of insight into how things were in the past; it wasn't always this way, things change. And N, by being a king, wanted to bring things back to how they were in the past, being ruled by a monarchy and Pokemon not being controlled by trainers.
