I kinda miss those. I guess they got replaced with the pokemon musical. Anyone else miss them?

MegaKuriboh April 2nd, 2011 11:27 AM

I agree, there's no motivation to do it as you get no reward for taking part.

Neiko Star April 2nd, 2011 1:16 PM

I like getting new Props though.

PlatinumDude April 2nd, 2011 3:33 PM

I tried the Musical and it was pretty boring compared to the Contests and Pokeathlons. If one of them makes a comeback in the third version, I'll be happy.

solarowl April 2nd, 2011 4:46 PM

If you're talking about Pokeathlon, I'm with you. Musicals were much more boring this time. Contests were even better than this as well. Pokeathlon was the most entertaining. There were many events, and all of them were fun to play.

Rionix April 2nd, 2011 4:49 PM

I like the concept of Pokemon Musical. And I like to see my pokemon jiggling and bouncing. I'm not a gay though O.O

vaporeon7 April 2nd, 2011 4:54 PM

I miss the Pokeathlon and Pokemon Contests (R/S/E not D/P/Pt). Those minigames were more fun and included more interactivity then the Musicals. I don't mind the concept of the Musicals I just don't like how it is more of a trimmed Super Contest. I wish there was more to it then just dressing up and pressing two buttons in the Musical. I think it'd be better if you could use all your props.

Hyrulian_Hero April 2nd, 2011 8:00 PM

they better bring it back in the 3rd revision of Black and White (Grey version I'm betting its gonna be called)

or at least the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire

jessemac_7 April 2nd, 2011 8:45 PM

I hate how in the musicals like you really don't get to do anything but dress up your pokemon, its kinda boring. I'm wondering if they just added it in in hopes to appeal to female game players but IDK (not trying to be sexist, just speculating). Personally I enjoyed the contest in ruby, sapphire and emerald the most cuz I love the strategy.

Alerek April 2nd, 2011 10:29 PM

What I think they need to have is a game where they include pokemon contests(R/S/E), Pokeathlons, Musical. I mean why cant they just add all of them? It would add so much more time to the play time.

AusGut April 3rd, 2011 12:21 AM

Couldnt stand contests, found them so boring and dont even wanna try the musicals.

The Pokeatholon was fun though

skyluigi2 April 3rd, 2011 1:37 AM

Compared to Contests and the Pokeathlon, Musicals are pretty rubbish. Really. There's no point...

That's not you being sexist: that's the game creators, if that's really the reason. ):

Yeah...I miss the old contest from R/S/E. I was really good at those! I had a Xatu for the smart contests and a Ninetales for Beauty...and a Regirock for either tough or cute, I can't remember...I was trying to get that one statue for the secret base you would get if you beat master level for all five areas.

Eh, Pokeathlon was okay. I just don't like games that require me to actually do things at that fast of a pace; they make me really nervous and sick. That's why I only play Pokemon games, I think...

Giraffe April 3rd, 2011 7:01 AM

The Pokeathlon was amazing... But the Musicals are cute; I love getting new props from 'fans'.

i love my adoring fans :) but they dont give me anything any more because ive got all the accessories apart from the birthday cake and its my birthday in 6 days :D hello silver trainer card! :)

PartiallyInsaneWhimsicott April 17th, 2011 3:38 AM

I thought, when I first heard about the games, and all the graphics being better than, say, Gen IV, I thought, "the Contests must be AWESOME!" Then when I found out they replaced them with--I can't even say it(which don't even give you ribbons or medals or anything)--it was like a slap in the face!

I miss my Contests...and my Pokeathlons!

nate890 April 17th, 2011 4:47 AM

While I do prefer the Pokeathlon and contest over the musical, the musical does have some interesting elements but they just need to be capitalized on. I wish the muscial had a bit more strategy to it!

Nateon April 17th, 2011 4:56 AM

I loved the contests, i found them a fun challenge, i enjoyed the poketholon (cant spell) when it was introduced but i didn't even attempt the gen 5 ones, they just look awful =/

NamelessGuy April 17th, 2011 5:52 AM

For some reason, the Pokemon Musical reminds me too much of Glee. And I absolutely can't stand that show, so naturally, I think the musical is pure bogus.

On another note, the contests were actually enjoyable. And with the addition of new moves in Gens IV and V, one can only wonder why the developers didn't keep contests in the games.

marcc5m April 17th, 2011 10:04 AM

I hate the Musicals. All they are is the contests from Sinnoh, except without the actual contest part, you can't control the Pokemon when they dance and you can't choose where the accessories go. Bring back the Pokeathlon.

Rai April 21st, 2011 10:35 AM

I think the musicals are cute but they are kind of pointless honestly. I LOVED the Pokealthon. It was so much fun and I felt like I accomplished something when I played it. The musicals are cute but that's it.

AusDon April 21st, 2011 10:42 AM

No ribbons or anything.

Musical is lame. Does absolutely nothing.

Not to mention the development time and the time spent figuring out how to shove all these things into one place!

Anyway, it looks like from the onset that they were satisfied with using Contests as a mechanic in two sets of games (R/S and D/P) and were planning to develop a replacement side-game system in any further games. As we can see, the two HG/SS and B/W teams came up with different ideas which both showed off something new in the game (the Pokéthlon is a further excuse to use Pokémon OW sprites while the Musical hinges on the use of full-sized Pokémon backsprites)

I'd be surprised if they returned to Contests in a new, original Pokémon game.
