Pokémon Deep Balance
 
In this land, youngster, there is an old story told by the elder people in the cities and towns. Long ago, a couple of centuries before we inhabited this land, the Gravinters lived here. The Gravinters were intelligent people, and possesed skills no-one else had around that time. Some of them even had magical powers, and everything in the Gravinter Lands was futuristic. Some say the Gravinters were partly Pokemon. The Lands were ruled by the three most intelligent people in the country: the Magisters. The Magisters were unbelievably smart and really curious. The land was even more futuristic than it is now.

The skill of the Gravinters, however, became lost forever, on that single, black day, five centuries ago...

In 2008, I started "creating" Pokémon Fan-games. I was a beginning Rom-Hacker back then, practising with various aspects of editing the rom, from mapping to scripting. After 2 years of practise, I started my first "real" project, Pokémon FireRed 2: The Next Chapter. I got a big-enough fanbase back then, and I had enough motivation, to continue the project. I was convinced that one day, one day the hack would be completed. But, due to unforeseen circumstances, the first beta wasn't ever reached. A bug sortof "destroyed" the ROM, and I didn't have a clue on how to fix it. I took a break.


During that break, while doing my "DIR (Daily Internet Routine)", my eyes fell on a fangame, the not-so-unknown-fangame called Blue Chrome. It had many awesome features (I admit, in my opinion, some of the features are pointless, but the fact they are included says something about the skill of the scripter, and, it's possible, so why not?), I never thought were possible. It really drawed my attention, and I fell in love with the software needed to create this kind of games. RPG Maker XP.


I practised a few months with RPG Maker, and it wasn't that difficult at all to learn. Maybe that's due to my experience with Rom-Hacking, which is more complex in my opinion, but anyway, with the help of the members of the former PlanetDev I was ready for the real deal: creating a good fangame.


Pokémon Deep Balance isn't just the ordinary game we see all the time in the Game Development sections these days: this game is worked on by myself. No one else is developing this game. Just me. And, that's were this game shines, in my opinion. Everything is much more organised than other projects. Also, the game has, in my opinion, great graphics. Welcome to Pokémon Deep Balance.


STORY

"The three Magisters, Zekrun, Reshin and Kyuan, were conducting a new experiment. The Gravinter Lands were really modern, but they still didn't know an answer to questions as “How was the world created?”. The Gravinters held on to their religion, but the Magisters didn't. They wanted to do an experiment, a deadly experiment, that could possibly destroy the whole planet, in order to know the truth about the world. The Magisters held a poll, so the people of the Gravinter Lands would decide whether the Magisters will do the experiment or not. However, this poll wasn't really useful, as half of the people voted “yes”, and the other half voted “no”. Zekrun wanted to do the experiment, but Reshin didn't, he was afraid of the consequences. There was only one person left, who didn't vote: The Magister Kyuan. He couldn't choose, and Reshin and Zekrun couldn't take it. They put many pressure on Kyuan, until Zekrun decided to just do the experiment, against Reshin's will. A massive explosion followed, and no-one knows what happened there, in the Magister Palace.


When the guards of the palace entered the room where the Magisters were, everything in the room was destroyed. The Magisters were never seen again.


Everything in the Lands later got killed: the machines they created themselves, started acting strange. Unable to control them, the Gravinter Lands became destroyed. Some of the people though, survived, and fled to the north. Their children came back to the former Gravinter Lands, and started rebuilding the Lands. Their children did to, and now, a few centuries after that, the Lands are known as our Archipelago: the Blavibe Islands."


You, a youngster from Machai Island, will travel through the Blavibe Archipelago in order to find your dad. However, this isn't just a simple disappearance. There is a lot more going on in the region. The past has had his influence on the little archipelago. But what? What happened to the three magisters?

BUG FIXES

Bug fixes should be put in the installation folder. For example. if the game is installed to C:/Program Files/P-Sign/Pokémon Deep Balance, you should copy the .rgssad file to that folder. Replace the existing file, and the bug will be fixed.

You just need to set out the frames in a certain way and set it up in the scripts.
I'll make an easier way at some point.

Your mapping could definitely improve a bit more, everything seems so crowded. When making maps you need to focus on the gameplay and make sure it's easy for the player to walk through those maps.

Your grammar is another thing that could improve. Things like "I'm going to search my dad," and "Will you come back sometimes?" don't make much sense.

Other than that, I'm definitely looking forward to see some more updates.

Well no duh it looks like Luxray, it's got Luxray's head on Lucario's body with Zoroark's claws. It's not terrible, but I think you (or whoever your spriter is) could afford to make it look like less of an edit; change the head shape, maybe, or add spikes to the mane or something.

As for the game, it looks okay and it's got a cool name, which is always a plus. Your presentation could use some work though; at least break the post up with centering, underlining, and images. The first post is the first impression people have of your game, after all! Good luck. c:

It looks good, the screen shots are impressive. I think, however, that if you are going to use Fakemon, then you need to use original Fakemon instead of very obvious fusions lol. Keep it up!

i have a few comments
1- what you said about how you moved tp RMXP is exactly what happened to me, except i wasn't influenced by Blue Chrome, no offense Luke S.J, i was influenced by Shimmering emeral by CNG, that's in the first place, and was also influenced by garnet. and to tell you the truth, the screenies on this baby are even more to my liking and i am even more influenced, good luck amigo, this is turning out great !!

I'm looking at your game and wondering. Are you a really good scripter, because I'm thinking about using CNG's kit for my game but I can't figure out how to add more attacks / pokemon. Also, where did you get the tileset? It looks like its from black / white

Well, to be honest, I really can't script xD
I managed to show Zolux and Zolio in-game by replacing the sprites of Bulbasaur and Ivysaur :p

The bottom screen looks empty because not everything is evented/scripted yet ;)

Not a shock really speaking as he's always on off it hence why I never bothered to convert my game over when he passed it down. I'd rather work with essentials until he releases his kit to a certain extent. That's the best option to go with really speaking.

xD, I chose one choice because the player character is speaking here, because I don't really like a textbox saying: [PLAYER]: [Insert text here].

Awersome game. I have a question. The komatana sprite looks like cutted B/W sprite. It it true? How would for example pokabu sprite look like? It wouldn't hmmmm...to pixeled?

Komatana is a japan name of pawniard. ( I still can't learn english names of some pokemon from the Unowa region)

Yep, they are cutted sprites and they won't look as pixeled, like the HGSS BackSprites.

Sorry, but I just started and I'm doing everything alone, except for Spriting. This is just a Demo release, not a Final Version.

And if you think my game is retarded and I should get the hell out of here, sorry, but a game doesn't need to have only custom sprites and
stuff. This is a Pokémon game, there are 649+ official sprites in this game, and in most other Fan-Games too, and do you hear anybody complaining? I sure don't.

Well, most of the time, the fakemon are poorly designed (mine, for example), and I hate fakemon, since this is a Pokémon Game and not a fakemon game :p

What about ENTIRE fakedex regions?
That said, I have seen some fakemon that look like officical sprites, but thats hard to do and most people don't like that.

That said, I have seen some fakemon that look like officical sprites, but thats hard to do and most people don't like that.

Those are some nice looking protagonists you have up there, but something's off about them. They look a lot like the FireRed/LeafGreen protagonists, especially the male protagonist. I think it's just the style they're drawn though, with the bags like that. The male does look somewhat "generic" if you know what I mean. Maybe if you could, remove the hat, change the colour scheme of his clothing, and lose the hat, and you got yourself a winner. :) Girl looks really nice.

As for your actual screenshots, it seems like some of the menu backgrounds (Pawniard, Reshiram etc.) look like they've been stretched to fit completely onto the background. Try to avoid this, or you will get a horrible distortion. Other than that, I'm really impressed with the way you've gone about this. I can't wait to see some full-scale maps. :3

The pokemon front and backsprites don't show up for some reason. I think they're ill-positioned in the PBS documents. Also, after you leave your house in the beginning you can walk straight down into the little fenced in area because you overlapped a walkable tile over a non-walkable tile.

Strangely enough, they do show up in the uncompressed project, so i don't think it's got something to do with the positions.

Also, I've fixed the walking over the fence problem.

Fixed the Pokémon Sprites not appearing, uploading a new version in 30 minutes.

I fixed the problem by adding the Battlers folder to the .zip file.
The RMXP Encrypter apparently doesn't encrypt that folder XD

Try installing RPG Maker XP if you haven't and it should go away that error.

I downloaded it and tried it. Unfortunatly as soon as I got to the first town, some guy gave me a pokémon, said we should battle then it froze (I could hear the sound of something running into a wall so that might be it)

Game crashed while trying to get mom to heal my charmander and when i tried to battle the girl outside the house(check attached files). Didn't get too far, but I'm liking the game so far. Any idea why its lagging?

you also become invisible while holding down shift

The two errors are already fixed, I just need to upload the new version right now, but it takes a bit longer since I'm already close to a beta 2 release xD

I thinkv the lag is probably due to the fact the HGSS Menu is scripted in the script Scene_Map, but that's fixed already since I switched to a side-menu. This causes the game to move more smoothly.

I started working on this game since early january 2011. At the time, I wasn't really experienced with RPG Maker XP, so the quality of the game wasn't that high yet. The game was known as "Pokémon Climate Clash", but I switched to "Pokémon Deep Balance", due to the fact the link to the storyline is much deeper.

The project originally started on Planetdev, but after some help of the members there, my thread made it to the showcase section here on PC. The game's quality was much higher at that time, the graphics were better and the storyline received a boost too.


Pokémon Deep Balance is in the showcase section, next to great games like Xenotime, Blue Chrome, Sands of Time, Raptor and so much more. I'm proud of this achievement, and I hope this game meets the standard of the high quality games here on PC. Well, without further ado, here's the storyline:


Storyline

he Pokémon League of the year 2024 just ended.
It was a great championship, with the best trainers of the Balax Region competing.
Some well-recognized people were around, most notably Bryan, the founder of Brick Corp. He defeated all other trainers, and fought in the finals against four of the best trainers, the Elite 4, and won.
Now, he is going to face his biggest challenge:
He will fight the Champion.
Your dad.

While your dad is fighting Bryan, you are home, together with your mother.

It’s a big day for you too: You’re moving today!
While you’re saying goodbye to everyone in town, you will come across a friend:
Dennis, a Pokémon Trainer, will give you one of his Pokémon as a farewell gift.

But while you’re travelling from Calypso Island to Nestart Village, your dad is found to be missing…

Your mother is heartbroken, and you decide to search for him.
Many friends will help you, including Rick, a beginning Pokémon Trainer like you from Nestart Village, Dennis from Calypso Island and much more...

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS IN A SPOILER FOR A REASON!

While traveling throughout the Balax Region, you'll notice there are a lot of thefts: many Pokémon are stolen by a gang named the Prod Gang. The goal of them is unknown, but it will be revealed at the end of the storyline: The Prod Gang is hired by Bryan, the founder of Brick CORP. He wants Pokémon to use as employees, so he can fire his current employees and save tons of money. Many Pokémon and Nature-loving people are against this idea, most notably your own dad. He is kidnapped by Brick CORP so he can't do anything against them.
Meanwhile, the legendary musketeers are racing through the region and are attacking all people they see, for causing all the harm done to the Pokémon by Bryan. You will need to stop them, before it's all getting out of hand. But this isn't the only problem: The Balance Tower is shaking! All sages of the Balax Region gather at Balance Tunnel, fearing the destruction of two Pokémon: the Deep Black Pokémon and the Vast White Pokémon.
The 5 five Legendary Pokémon gather at Victory Peak, the highest place in all of the Balax Region. This is the place where your father was kidnapped, and nobody other than the League Champion is allowed to pass. You enter the tournament, since you've collected all 8 badges, together with your friends. You become the champion, and go up, to Victory Peak. The five Legendary Pokémon will attack you, and you've got to calm them down. Bryan saw everything and feares you're just as strong as your dad, or maybe even stronger. He challenges you, but you win. Bryan is arrested by the Balax Police Departement, and is taken away. All Pokémon are brought to their respective owners, and the Balax Region is in harmony with nature and Pokémon again...

15 years old, he/she decides to travel the Balax Region in order to find their lost father.

Gawain is the dad of Nate/Teresa, and the Pokémon Champion of this region.
All his battles take place on the top of Victory Peak.
He is a strong trainer, and is famous for it’s love for nature and Pokémon.

Bryan is the founder of the famous corporation Brick CORP.
Little is known about him, except for the fact he does everything for money.

This game looks really good, graphics-wise, although there are a couple things that bother me. As Cilerba said, your mapping could improve. Inthis screenshot, you may want to add some variety to the houses shown, the fact that they had the same colors and all bothered me a bit. While I don't mind that you've used edited sprites, you could always go the extra mile and make it less obvious that they came from official sprites, like not having Zolux's head look like Luxray's. Finally, you may want to watch the position of some of the sprites in the battle system. In this screen, Rick would look better if he wasn't at the very back of the patch of grass, and in here, Cherubi is far too close to Oshawott's HP Bar. Other than that, this is certainly an impressive game and I wish you luck in developing it.

I've remapped the whole city, and there's a slight reduction in the amount of houses right now.While I don't mind that you've used edited sprites, you could always go the extra mile and make it less obvious that they came from official sprites, like not having Zolux's head look like Luxray's. There aren't Fakemon in this game anymore since, like, two months ago or something xD Finally, you may want to watch the position of some of the sprites in the battle system. I've redone the battle system (graphics-wise) and I'm quite pleased with the result. I switched over to Essentials, so it's possible to catch Pokémon again. Pokedex will be included in the game itself too, and Something-Memorable is currently spriting the Hero/Heroine.

Box is a cool idea some notes though- The pokemon pics look kinda blury, and the "deep balance" text is hard to read (the c looks like an O)

The pokedex is ok. Too much 5th gen pokemon for my liking (nearly half)
Im curious, will more pokemon be avalialbe postgame like the official games?

Well, I'm still updating it, as some people didn't like the small amount of Ghost, Psychic and Electric Pokémon, so I'll probably add some more for the region Pokedex. Other Pokémon will be included postgame eventually, but I´m not to sure about that; If I want to develop another game after this one, I'm not going to add a National Dex, but if I'm not developing another game, I guess it will be added.

The pokedex just seems very unbalanced. Its mostly Fire and Water types. And I also agree with DarkDoom; there are just too many 5th generation pokemon. I think I counted 86, which is more than half. As for the traditional starters in the game, you have all of generation 2, 3, and 5. Charizard is the only generation 1 and there are no generation 4 pokemon. Just to balance it out, you should probably add the others, or get rid of 2 or 3. You only have 1 pure bird pokemon and in my opinion, the pidgey line isn't the best since it's a passive pokemon. The starly line may be the better option, especially since there are those who use bird pokemon to fight. Also, I feel some of the legends before generation 5 are a lot better, but that's just a personal opinion.

One last opinion, maybe you should switch out some pokemon for others, add a few more electric, psychic and w/e else you are missing, so you can balance it out; and maybe bump the number to an even 200 so the balance is easier to obtain.
