Alder's Mystery Pokemon...

I don't know if this threads been made or not but this is killing me. In the storyline Ghetis taunts Alder on how he lost his 'oldest partner' meaning an old pokemon I believe. So, wtf was it?! O.o I personally think it was a Larvesta or something seeing as big killer moth thing which name escapes me is his strongest pokemon. But yeah, discuss! XD

Misheard Whisper April 11th, 2011 11:27 AM

This is interesting, you see. I'm not actually sure if the game itself says that Alder's old Pokemon died. If not, it adds a whole raft of new possibilities - like Zekrom/Reshiram. It would explain somewhat why N felt it was so important to defeat Alder in a battle.

Nakuzami April 11th, 2011 11:48 AM

Well, they did say he lost his pokemon to sickness, which basically implies dying.

I have no idea what it could be, but it's likely just some random pokemon native to Unova. Perhaps it will be mentioned in the third game?

The_Noob April 11th, 2011 11:55 AM

Well, whatever it is, N and Ghetsis sure knew how to use it to push Alder's buttons. It's probably not beyond N's childish ways to have blatantly insulted the beast's memory every time he knocked out one of the Champion's Pokemon.

I assume that, whatever it was, his Vanilluxe replaced it. Not sure why, but such a cutesy Pokemon looks... out of place, considering Alder's rough-and-tumble cowboy look. Hell, it doesn't even do a good job of covering the blatant handicap Alder has against anyone with a rock-type.

Noob out.

ISA56 2.0 April 11th, 2011 12:57 PM

I'm personally starting to think it was a Braviary. It seems to fit him and his rough-and-tumble team very nicely. Vanilluxe probably replaced it.

Poor Braviary.....

Pika-power April 11th, 2011 1:03 PM

Maybe a boufflant or a unfezeant...

Lady Gaga April 11th, 2011 2:19 PM

Ash's Pikachu
It was Alder's strongest Pokemon, but then it became sick and fell into a deap coma, Alder thought he had died. He put it in a box, and put him into the sea. The box floated to Kanto, and was soon found by Professor Oak, to be given to Ash Ketchum. That explains Pikachu's disobedience in the beginning, and its uber mega power.

Lambda April 11th, 2011 3:04 PM

Well you can meet Alder on top of the tower and he says that his pokemon did die which is why he rings the bell.
But i most likely i think one of the starters for that could be the oldest poke he had for it is the first.

BTW a little off topic but its cool to think if Ghetsis and Alder knew each other in childhood.

Except in-game that's known as Red's Pikachu - which has no backstory, and there were no rumours of it being disobedient, or anything. Unless Alder's backstory is specifically mentioned in the anime, I doubt both the anime and games are connected in this situation.

Either way, his mystery Pokemon was probably something like Zoroark, a Pokemon that could be anything he wanted, --which is going along the route as mentioned relating to why N wanted to battle him. XD

N simply felt it was important to defeat Alder so that the plan could move forward. As the Champion of the region, he'd have better "control" over things and be more inspiring to the people who follow their Champions.

Volcarona would make the most sense, but since he has one when you go battle him... it kind puts it out of the equation. Perhaps it's a Legendary Pokemon, though isn't it mentioned that it was his starter Pokemon? Don't think he'd have such a thing for a starter. Maybe a Deino/Zweilous/Hydreigon considering he's a Champion without a pseudo-legendary on his team. Maybe it's a starter from the region... or maybe something not even from the region?

I do hope they address it some more in the next game, whether they flat out tell you or give you more clues.

dieter57 April 11th, 2011 4:24 PM

i think it was charlie sheen not.
i actually think it was a charizard. it just seems like one of the pokemon he could of had.

Alder has yet to be introduced so there is zero back story.

I honestly have no idea what his pokemon was. For all I know it was Genesect prior to it being pimped out by Plasma. He already has 3 Bug types on his team...

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire April 11th, 2011 4:36 PM

I think it was either Zoroark or Braviary seeing as those two are people that I would see suit him...or maybe a bug pokemon seeing as half of his team is bug...

MegaKuriboh April 11th, 2011 5:02 PM

I'm guessing a fire type... Maybe Darmanitan? Or it could be Hydreigon
I hope the third games tells us

Polizard April 11th, 2011 5:04 PM

I assumed it was a hydreigon only because it seem fitting for him and that it is awesome pokemon

Geras April 11th, 2011 5:23 PM

"My old partner is resting here in the Celestial Tower. It was the first Pokémon I received when I became a Trainer. I come here to ring the bell and comfort its spirit."
"It was a strong Pokémon. It was courageous, noble, and kind... Together, we madly perused strength... Without even knowing the meaning of strength."

This is what he says at celestial tower, which makes me think it's definitely not a Hydreigon. Mostly because: This brutal Pokémon travels the skies on its six wings. Anything that moves seems like a foe to it, triggering its attack. The heads on their arms do not have brains. They use all three heads to consume and destroy everything. It was probably a starter Pokemon.

On a side note, I like how he carries nine Pokemon with him.

Kenshin5 April 11th, 2011 5:58 PM

That description sounds more like Braviary then anything to me.

Yeah, I agree. Sounds a whole lot like Braviary. This is probably nothing, but Braviary = Flying type; Celestial Tower = Outside the city of a Flying type Gym Leader. Perhaps theres some type of connection there, though stretchy as it is lol.

Of course though, what he says doesn't necessarily have to be a clue to what species it was. In the eyes of a trainer, any Pokemon could be "courageous, noble, and kind" really.

The_Noob April 11th, 2011 6:43 PM

I really think it's up to the player to decide what it is. Personally, I think it's one of the Generation VI Pokemon, and a future event will announce its identity and Generation VI. After all, every odd gen announces the next one earlier than in even gens, from the patterns we've seen.

Of course, there's always the option of it being a Stoutland, since he is capable of learning moves that, in life, would have covered his Pokemon's weaknessess. Also, he fits the bill for Alder's description of him, a kind and noble companion who was with him from the start. Considering Lilipup can be found early in a trainer's quest, one could have easily been the boy's starter. Dogs, of course, also often die of sickness.

Noob out.

Thougar April 11th, 2011 7:31 PM

If you check the top of te Ghost tower after the game you get to hear him talk about it *the bell is still useless*.

I want to bet its Resham+Zecrom buti cant figure out how to spell their names -.-

Kenshin5 April 11th, 2011 7:41 PM

Reshiram and Zekrom

And if it was the original then he would have been able to control the dragons in place of N. That would mean he was the hero long ago in the past, and I kind of doubt he was around during the time Unova came to be(which I believe was when the creature was still one being iirc).

The Nightmare April 11th, 2011 8:48 PM

It's probably a starter pokemon or something because it was very special to him when he first caught it but I think it is a starter more than a wild.

Destiny. April 12th, 2011 1:32 AM

Probably an unreasonable guess, but there is the smallest chance it might be Kyurem. Legendary.

PlatinumDude April 12th, 2011 2:38 AM

Could've sworn there was a thread like this...

Anyway, like I said in that thread, I speculate that Alder's old Pokemon was Scolipede or Leavanny because half of his team are Bug Pokemon.

Agreed with this.. But a high probability that its a Volcarona as it fits his appearance and maybe personality.
