Oh my God, a Music Man parody and an episode where everyone revels in getting drunk all rolled into one.

Sheep January 30th, 2012 3:23 PM

Woop, forgot to comment on Saturday's episode.

It was hilarious... I'll never forget the song nor the moving up and down chanting, "cider, cider, cider"... just gold. But AJ's "lesson" made the whole episode if you ask me. :D

Loved that song.

AJ's lesson made it but even better when AJ said her friends was family.

Sweet Candace January 31st, 2012 1:18 PM

I believe that the cider is non-alcoholic, at least in the US version, it was probably different in the other areas of the world the episode aired.

Mr Cat Dog January 31st, 2012 1:28 PM

That's interesting. Wikipedia seems to confirm that for US-speaking parlance, cider simply means a non-alcoholic apple-juice variant and 'hard cider' (something I'd NEVER heard of) means the alcoholic variant. Although I still stand by my earlier statement that those ponies were essentially getting their fix of cider; it makes it so much more interesting to think of MLP characters as alcohol addicts (Rainbow Dash especially).

On saturday it's a Rainbow Dash episode.

Read It and Weep.

I didn't know cider was known as alchoholic outside the U.S. Since Equestria isn't in the U.S., I think they WERE looking to get their alchohol fix! XD

- Favorite Main Pony: Rainbow Dash

- About Me: I've have been a Brony for a week now. Watch it to see what the fuss was and instantly liked it. Over the next three days I'd seen then all.

TornZero February 6th, 2012 10:15 AM

So, after finally seeing the new episode myself this morning before school, I'm expecting to see plenty of Daring Do fanfics in the future. Anypony else? (I have to admit, though, I really like her mane. *Sweetie Belle channeling not intended*)

alisaie February 6th, 2012 10:24 AM

I don't really read fanfiction, but I do agree. There probably will be some Daring Do fanfiction in the future.

I liked the episode. Mainly because they made Rainbow Dash getting into books in the most believable way possible: adventure. If it was any other type of book, I don't think it would have been pull out as neatly.

Also: Indiana Jones reference through this whole episode Ya gotta love it! I wish I could have seen the episode in HD, but with Hasbro cracking down on MLP, I had to resort to any video I could find. Thus, I watched MLP in much lower quality than I'm used to.

TornZero February 6th, 2012 10:36 AM

I usually watch it on TV (except when I first got into it, of course, where I watched most of the first season on YouTube). If I miss it on Saturday, I'm almost always guaranteed I can watch the newest episode on Monday before I leave for school.

I hate that Hasbro is cracking down on YouTube videos about the episodes. It's the one of the only ways some people can watch the episodes if they don't get the Hub (the other way would be a livestream.)

olih February 6th, 2012 5:16 PM

Thing is, then Hasbro doesn't make a lot of the money that they would normally make off the show. Because the ads that are shown along with the show when it airs on TV are taken out for Youtube videos, Hasbro isn't making a lot off of that, and I can imagine the ad companies won't be too happy. I guess a solution could be, like, keeping the ads in the Youtube videos. That way Hasbro and the ad companies would be happy, and bronies could just skip over the ads :3 I don't know. I'm not very experienced in this sort of marketing stuff ^_^; It seems like a good solution to me.

TornZero February 6th, 2012 6:01 PM

I suggest that Cartoon Network be willing to play it for the US. I know Cartoon Network has FiM in Canada, but not in the US. Maybe replace Gumball? :D

Sweet Candace February 7th, 2012 7:22 AM

Cartoon Network would probably have to pay a pretty penny to air episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and they'd be probably forced to start at the beginning.

I don't know if the people running Cartoon Network would think that would be a good idea. What runs good on one channel, may not on another. You never know.

alisaie February 7th, 2012 7:32 AM

Well see, I wouldn't be into MLP:FiM if it wasn't for it being on Youtube, and that goes with many other fans. I can understand why they're cracking down on it, but I don't have an option to watch it on the HUB anyways. I don't even have the channel, and I'm sure many other fans don't as well. What they could do is have the episodes on their site, and have it with commercials there. CBS does that with my favorite show (Criminal Minds) so I don't see why they can't do the same thing.

But yeah. I usually watch My Little Pony via one of the high quality videos on Monday, since I don't have time over the weekend to watch it. I really don't want to watch the rest of the episodes in low quality. :s

That's a good idea. They should really think about doing that and stop all this cracking down on the videos on YouTube.

Not everyone has the Hub, Hasbro.

Legend February 9th, 2012 5:11 PM

I'd like to join the herd.

- Favorite Episode: "The Last Roundup" is without a doubt my favorite. Funny, well written, good story, plenty of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy action. Oh, and it has Derpy.
- Favorite Main Pony: Tough question, but I am probably going to have to go with Pinkie Pie. Fluttershy is a /very/ close second.
- Favorite Side Pony: Can I say the Cutie Mark Crusaders as a whole? If not, probably Sweetie Belle.
- About Me: Plenty to say, but I will keep MLP themed as everyone seems to be doing that. I started watching the series back in September but stalled because I actually got bored. But over my winter break (I am college student so I have a long break) I dedicated myself to giving the series a second try. I watched the entire series in a few weeks and have been a full fledged Brony. I now look forward to Saturday mornings for my weekly dose of Ponies. I have benefited from the typical Brony symptoms. Increased happiness, optimism and energy. Guilty of being changed here. I have converted several to the show and have met several Bronies on my campus. This show truly brings others together.

Sweet Candace February 9th, 2012 5:45 PM

You may or may not have known that this weekend's episode was leaked to iTunes today.

If you saw it, DON'T SPOIL ANYTHING! DON'T EVEN TALK ABOUT IT!

That is all.

Lucky! I only know one brony in my school! Maybe there are more in hiding...How do you find secret bronies?

Sweet Candace February 10th, 2012 5:12 PM

I have a guy in my class who wears a few MLP T-Shirts, but I'm usually out of my class in a flash and haven't talked to the guy at all face-to-face.

TwiDragon February 10th, 2012 5:37 PM

There are about a few bronies or pony fans (I'm a fan, not a bronie)

Yeah, we always joke around about the stuff, and look at silly pictures about the show.

My Favorite

TornZero February 10th, 2012 11:00 PM

I was in the nurse's office two or so weeks ago and saw a girl with a 20% Cooler shirt. I complimented it, and it turns out there's a small, scattered collection of Bronies in my school. Even the tall kid with really tight clothes is one, and the weird-looking guy with the large coat and bushy beard is a pony fan. The last example I found out about by showing him some funny pictures with clips from the show, and we got into talking about it.

If you're looking for closet Bronies, you can always go up to random people and show them pictures of the cast with funny captions and listen to their responses. :D

TwiDragon February 11th, 2012 3:12 PM

I think some of you guys who like to ship characters would like to see this.

Sweet Candace February 11th, 2012 4:25 PM

Doctor Whooves and Derpy Hooves is a very popular ship outside the Mane 6. Probably the most popular non-Mane 6 ship out there.

Please enjoy.

Oh yeah, I know that song. My friend told me about it, and he said that he really liked it. I've been hearing quite a lot of talk about the song lately :3

I did a drawing on a whiteboard at our school library, and my friend told me he was going to send it to the folks at EqD. I NEVER thought it would actually get in. This made my day. So, SO happy. xDD;;

Anyway, most people at my school are prejudice as well. But heck, I don't care. xD;
I did a speech on it last year, I've entered a few pony drawings in school art competitions, and I drew that. Then again, different schools are different, I suppose. :(

I'm at college, and the only MLP fan I know is a good friend of mine. Apparently he's found some bronies around the campus, but I haven't met any. Of course, I don't flaunt around how much I enjoy the series like he does, aha. He's a much bigger fan than me anyways.

alisaie February 16th, 2012 10:00 AM

Depending on how it ends it's definitely going to keep people on their toes until next season. I've been left off on cliffhangers in other series, and some of them are not fun to leave off on. I don't think MLP will really be too bad with their cliffhanger (considering my other shows are typically Crime Dramas) but we'll just see what they have in store for us.

Just got around to watching last week's episode. >:

The CMC's little song towards the beginning was adorable and there were overall a lot of funny scenes in this episode... but by the time Big Mac and Cheerilee were on screen going, "sweetie weetie pony pie" and etc, I was just itching for it to end lol. It wasn't bad at all but my ears couldn't take much of that XD

Yeah, some of the sweet talk sounded forced somewhat, but it shouldn't have taken away from the episode itself.

That's not the moral. The moral was don't knock something until you try it. Which it was Rainbow did. By passing reading off as an "egghead" activity until she read the book and found out she likes to read.

alisaie February 16th, 2012 9:57 PM

Everyone has their reasons for disliking something. I've heard worse reasons why someone would dislike an episode, or a genre of music, etc etc. And hey, he might have been joking about hating the episode.

On the topic of the 'lovely dovey' talk, I'm not surprised some of it seemed forced. Considering that it was part of the 'Love Poison' and all. It was a tad annoying, but I suppose that's what you are to expect from a concoction like that!

Mr Cat Dog February 19th, 2012 2:57 PM

I strangely liked this week's episode a lot. I say 'strangely' because I'm never a big fan of the songs, and too much Pinkie - though I do love her - can often drive me crazy... but everything seemed to come together for this one. The songs, while a bit too long, were all in keeping with the tone of the episode, and the ambient music in general was great (especially the minor version of Yankee Doodle Dandy when Cranky became mad). Indeed, the plot of the episode reminded very much of 'Homer's Enemy' from The Simpsons, with Cranky filling in for Frank Grimes, but I doubt MLP would have had the guts to have Cranky go crazy from Pinkie's antics and electrocute himself, so the ending we got was the second best thing they could have done.

Oh, and this episode how introduced the now-immortal quote into my lexicon: "This donkey is really, REALLY bald!" I swear there's not going to be a day where I don't use that phrase! :D

Houndour2005 February 20th, 2012 2:03 AM

I tend to post whenever a new episode comes up.

As for this new episode. I have mixed feeling about it. Pinkie Pie isn't a favorite pony of mine, and almost every episode except for Party of One is kind of "eh" for me. I liked the idea of having a character like Cranky in there.

Sweet Candace February 20th, 2012 5:18 PM

To be honest, the only thing that was good about the episode Saturday was the Smile, Smile, Smile song, although it was a little long...

LynLyra February 20th, 2012 5:42 PM

Yeah, even though it ended well. Pinkie Pie was just being rude and abnoxious.
Not a good lesson for kids.

"If they don't like you, get in there face and make them like you" . I would of liked the message better if it were "Not everyone will be you friend, but the friends you have will make up for it" or somehtng along those lines.

Sweet Candace February 20th, 2012 5:49 PM

Yeah, Pinkie blew EVERYTHING out of proportion and did some drastic things to try and get Cranky to be her friend.

"If they don't like you, get in there face and make them like you" . I would of liked the message better if it were "Not everyone will be you friend, but the friends you have will make up for it" or somehtng along those lines.

I find the lesson that Pinkie learned to be a good lesson, personally. While Pinkie did push it a bit so Cranky would become her friend, Pinkie learned that getting into one's face isn't how to make friends. Even when you make friends, you must learn to back off and allow said friends to have the space they want. While she didn't learn this until the end, at least she learned the lesson, and it is something kids should learn. Just because you are friends with someone it doesn't give you the right to start going into their face about everything. Something that a lot of people need to learn these days in my opinion.

I will agree that Pinkie blew things out of proportion and there could have been another lesson for her to learn from it, but I think in-between all that, she learned that you shouldn't be forceful when she backed off at the end.

That said, I liked the episode. I adoooore 'Smile', and I was happy to finally see the episode in which it came from.

Party of One is better with insane Pinkie Pie.

Party of One was a completely different episode then Friend in Deed. You're kind of comparing apples to oranges, and comparing two episodes with two different plotlines (not to mention there was no real "insane" Pinkie in Friend in Deed).

Yes! Scientists are taking bronies seriously!

Wow, he's planning on putting his research into a scientific journal? Also writing a book about it? That's freaking amazing. xDD;;
Can't wait to read more about it.

Anyway, I did some more fanart here. o3o

I'm joining
- Favorite Episode: Luna Eclipsed
- Favorite Main Pony: Fluttershy and Raindow Dash
- Favorite Side Pony: Derpy, Applebloom, Doctor Whooves, and Sweetie Belle.
- About Me: I was pretty skeptical at first about watching MLP. I've seen a ton of fan art on DeviantArt and wonder what it was about, but was worried about what my family would think if they knew I was watching a girls show. I learned that my little brother also watched the show in secret and that he was a brony. And I'm proud to say I'm a brony.

Anyone here know about Derpys new voice?

I'm just loving watching the outcry. I'm a fan of the show and all, but there is so much noise to the itunes version of that episode.

Yeah, the whole Derpy voice hubbub (and everything about Derpy) is kind of sad. I hate the people who think that everything has some underlying meaning, and in no way is Derpy Hooves making fun of handicapped people.

Astinus February 29th, 2012 8:09 PM

Except, in a way, the scene was. "Derpy" is used in an offensive manner to mock people with disabilities. People with disabilities were offended by it, even though other people might not have seen it. Between the name, the voice (which the voice actor based on a boy with mental disabilities), and the way that Dash treated her (bullying her) made the scene offensive. Particularly the last part, since there shouldn't be any bullying of anyone in a show about friendship, especially from a main character that little children look up to.

As Hasbro said.

Quote:

"The 'My Little Pony Friendship is Magic' series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters," Hasbro spokeswoman Nicole Angello told us over email. "Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode 'The Last Roundup' did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode."
As for Bubblecup's new voice, I love it. She's got more attitude, more sarcasm to it. She seems to be trolling Dash now.

I still wish the scene had been kept the way it was originally written. As Rogers explains in her letter:

Quote:

The scene I wrote was originally longer and had a flashback explaining exactly what Ditzy Doo had done to damage Town Hall. She and Rainbow Dash were "Bucking Bolts" out of the clouds during a storm. Ditzy Doo was bucking too close to Ponyville central. Rainbow kept trying to yell over the noisy bucking for Ditzy to move away from town. But Ditzy could not hear her and thought that Rainbow was complimenting her for her great buck bolting. Ditzy then hit Town Hall with a bolt. And, thus, the damage.
That works a lot better than how the original scene went.

As for the bronies reactions to the change and to the people who voiced their concerns over the original scene, it's actually extremely frightening how much violence is directed towards people. I've seen a lot of threats coming from bronies over this. It's rather disturbing.

It's some bronies that give the whole fanbase a bad name. Not every brony is like that, some just love the show, and don't try to constantly stir up trouble like this.

It's the way people acted in the Derpy situation is why I'm ashamed to call myself a brony( sort of condratictory to my sign-up thing I know). I guess I'm one of those bronies mainly who just enjoy the show. There are some aspects of the fanbase I'm ok with, but most of it like the perverted stuff disgusts me.

I was pretty calm during the Derpy thing. I don't really like her new voice, but after reading the letters from Hasbro and the writer, I can understand and accept it more.

Yeah, sometimes I feel that way too. I get constantly disgusted at the actions that some bronies do, and they always do stuff that just sickens me.

I agree. Unfortunately, my sister judges ALL bronies (and furries too) only by the bad examples. Most bronies are good people!

The actions of many are often judged by the actions of a few. The few bad bronies give every brony a bad name.

alisaie March 1st, 2012 10:39 PM

That's why I ignore fandom half the time haha. Or rather I stick to where the fandom is good such as this place. When it concerns Derpy Hooves/Ditsy Doo I'm not surprised it was altered and it's a bit sad in some of the reactions you get from bronys (which is why I'd like to say that I like the show but not a brony). My friend was very upset about the whole Derpy alteration things and the best I could do without offending him or anything was to say 'well it happened so we'll just have to deal with it'. I'm curious to hear her new voice though as I didn't like her old one at all.

Sweet Candace March 2nd, 2012 12:16 PM

I was totally against giving Derpy a much bigger role. She was born off being an "Easter Egg", then turned into a "Where's Waldo?" kind of character. Now, they wanted to take all the fun out of looking for her, and they tried to make her a mane pony?

They should've stopped at "Where's Waldo?", because I think, if they did, I don't think all this backlash would've come. (But, yes, I know. Someone would still probably find a way to be offended by it.)

Maraala March 2nd, 2012 9:50 PM

Whoa, haven't been here in forever.

My thoughts about the Derpy being canon and all? tbh I'm completely sick and tired of it all to where I just don't care about it. All the bronies over on Google+ keeps erupting about it every time something about it pops up. TTnTT

Sheep March 2nd, 2012 10:05 PM

I've been falling out of my MLP addiction lately; thought I skipped a few episodes but then found out they're on break until tomorrow so yay.

aaaand Personally I'm glad about the Derpy change. Given the offensiveness of what was being portrayed it was only a matter of time before something was done. I dislike the general brony fandom and tend to stay away from it (but continue to share my like of the show in places where the "saner" part of the fandom exists, for lack of better wording) so their reactions over this is even more disheartening. Honestly I'm glad I deleted my MLP bookmarks folder a few weeks back as I'm sure the fans' complaints over this mess are still echoing throughout sites like the My Little Brony branch on memebase (which I used to check daily).

Oh please, please, may I join too? I love FiM ~ !

- Favorite Episode: Ooh, I haven't decided that yet...

- Favorite Main Pony: Applejack & Rainbow Dash

- Favorite Side Pony: Derp-Derp-Derpy~!

- About Me: I w-was also a bit weary of FiM when it was first released... I was a very big fan of the old MLP series when it was still very young and new. I wasn't sure, what with the new style and take on MLP, how well FiM would live up to it... but it has far exceeded all of my expectations, and I haven't loved MLP more than I do now... ♥

Okay, just saw the new episode, and I could only think one thing before the ending.

Spoiler:
Flutter***** is back!

And then I smiled.

Sweet Candace March 3rd, 2012 2:55 PM

I didn't really care for the episode. I just hate when the writers milk a particular facet of a pony's personality. Like Dashie's arrogance and spotlight-seeking, and now Fluttershy's meekness and shyness.

Victini March 3rd, 2012 4:38 PM

Thanks so much!

I'm a bit late on the topic, but I hope it's okay for me to give my own thoughts about Derpy's new role...

I've never before seen a case come out full-blown like Derpy's. She began as an animation mistake. Then as she was noticed by the fans, they began to do it on purpose... and put her out to be spotted for fun by everyone. Then gradually she appeared more often doing something rather than standing out in the background...

She was lovingly deemed Derpy Hooves by the fans... and just last night I witnessed something I never thought I would..

When Dash called her Derpy, my heart skipped. And when Derpy spoke, it skipped again. I couldn't believe t-that they really actually made what was to be just a regular side pony, something of a fan-made character! I honestly haven't been more ecstatic about the show since... I've never seen fanservice be direct. Usually it's very subtle... but that was an outright hat-tip to the fans of MLP. I never fell into the love for Derpy when she was just a funny little "Where's Waldo?" type of pony... but then she was given that name officially, and received a character of her own similar to fan portrayal.. ♥

I look at Derpy as a symbol of love from the creators of MLP to their fans.

I don't know about the controversy surrounding Derpy... Derpy is a very lovable character to me. To me she made disabilities similar to hers very endearing. As for Dash purposely bullying Derpy around, as I understand it, I don't see it that way. Dash has a very irritable nature, even towards her own friends... she didn't tease Derpy any more than she has another pony. Derpy was also originally intended to be extremely clumsy and accident-prone... her original name was Ditzy Doo afterall. ^^ Derpy itself as a name wasn't offensive until Dash said it... it was fine when it was just a fan-made thing.. I can't really understand how that works. I can see how Derpy may be a heavy trigger, but I don't personally feel anyone should take her existence as offensive for all of the above opinions...

Derpy is a very wonderful character thus far, and I wish to see more of her with a role! ... If she doesn't get censored completely that is...

It's all character development, really. I thought this episode worked really well. Very enjoyable. Even with Rainbow Dash, it wasn't really milking. That's my opinion, anyway.

And on the Derpy topic, I was one of those people who were overjoyed about her talking. I didn't find her offensive myself, but people are entitled to their own views and opinions, and I can see how people find her offensive. /shrugs
It's just something that happens in society.

Sweet Visions March 3rd, 2012 6:16 PM

Today's episode was pretty decent. I thought Fluttershy was amusing and it was cool to see Pinkie and Rarity hanging out. It's funny how Fluttershy was so critical of those two though when she just spends her time messing around with animals who probably don't even need her.

Mr Cat Dog March 4th, 2012 6:04 AM

The episode on the whole was kinda bleh. Fluttershy starts off to shy, becomes too aggressive and then becomes juuuuuuust right. Saw it coming a mile off. Although it did give us Pinkie's homage to the classic Looney Tunes short Rabbit Fire, which elevated the episode somewhat:

Astinus March 4th, 2012 6:44 PM

Yeah, the recent episode was all right to me. I liked it better than the last one, and I like the lessons more of this episode. Particularly that "no means no" part.

What I like the most about the episode was that it seemed to reveal that Ponyville tends to go to extremes when there's a need for it. In the Mare-Do-Well episode, Ponyville was full of danger. In this Fluttershy episode, everyone was a massive jerk. I find that amusing about the place.

And also I like Angel Bunny being a jerk as well. I didn't like him slapping Fluttershy and getting away with it, but him being picky and spoiled about his dinner was adorable.

The video that Jon posted just adds more evidence to the theory that Pinkie Pie is very Looney-Toon-ish.
