Route 4: What you think is on the EAST half of it

Walking the sandstorm of Route 4 the first time, I could not help but wonder at why there is construction related barriers preventing me from seeing the eastern side (the right side) of the desert region of Unova.

Anticipating it to be explorable when I defeated the Elite 4, I returned to Route 4.

But what's this? Still I cannot explore any further?

What could lie beyond those barriers? Thoughts?

Well, according to OMG Facts, the Unova region is based on New York, and the construction site is Ground Zero, where the terrorists flew the planes into the buildings. If you look at the map from a birds' eye view, you can even see the ruins of the buildings. But I'm not sure, it's just a guess from some people online. XD;

Problem with that is that if you do look at Unova as analogous the New York metropolitan area, the twin towers would've been a fair bit south, right in the middle of Castelia City. But I do see the correlation and would appreciate the symbolism if this theory was true and it was just moved a bit further north for gameplay purposes. :/

The Nightmare April 15th, 2011 2:03 PM

Don't think you can go there on route 4, it's just like that even though you might think it will change but it won't.

Yeah, they don't belong there, the area was destroyed by a meteor, and the ruined buildings are ancient towers and temples, not skyscrapers. The desert is there because they wanted people to get Ground Pokemon before the Electric Gym. Whoo, conspiracy theories.

On the topic of inaccessible areas, what about that gate in Driftveil City? I always wanted to know what was beyond there...

Well since the region is based on New York, maybe the area leads to other regions based off other US cities and states?

Underground storage maybe?

Route 4 (the desert) is a peninsula.

PlatinumDude April 15th, 2011 3:50 PM

Meh, I think it's just more buildings and construction stuff in the fenced-in part of the desert.

That's definitely the one that bothered me the most. I kept trying to find ways to get beyond it haha. I thought perhaps surfing? Maybe after the E4? But nope, still blocked. Really would have liked there to be something interesting to venture into.

There's an open door! Why can't I go into the open door?! D:

Maybe you can with the help of the AR Walk-Through-Walls cheat? XD

ISA56 2.0 April 15th, 2011 5:35 PM

It's probably more construction work, as well as whatever they're building. Perhaps we will see what it is in Grey?

Ho-Oh April 15th, 2011 5:57 PM

Omg, the Driftveil Gate, I was so disappointed that I couldn't get past there. :( I totally forgot all about it til it was mentioned!

But as for the desert...I really don't know. Maybe it's a secret area you can only access in the third game? I can't think of any other inaccessable areas that annoy me tbh. OH WAIT.

I so wish we could surf directly in front of Nuvema. I know it's not exactly an unknown area, but still, I just wanna surf there. ;___;

King Gumball April 15th, 2011 6:04 PM

I wish we could Surf the whole map... like up the rivers and stuff. idk why we aren't allowed!! I mean other than the killer piranhas in the river there shouldn't be anything stopping us from surfing the map. Or even just Surfing during day time, because of the Royal Unova the sails around during evenings.

And that means that if you were given access you couldn't use surf?

TurbineMaster May 10th, 2011 2:57 PM

I saw a video of some guy on youtube who hacked using ar codes to walk through walls...And when he used it, he went to the East side of Route4. There's nothing. Except for some guy. He is one of the construction workers, and he's floating in air. Whats weird is you can battle him and he gives you money...
And that gate at Driftveil city IS annyoing!! I keep trying to get through, but the guy just says something about the Cold Storage.

Seeds Horizon May 10th, 2011 3:14 PM

My theory is that in the third game, it will be the area where you find the third legendary thing, but currently its "Under Construction". Or maybe its the site of the real Team Plasma HQ, and those construction workers are actually team plasma members incognito XD. Other than that I believe it was just added to make us speculate and guess...Leave us wondering "WHAT THE PIKACHU IS PAST THOSE BARRICADES?!?!".

ElectricScyther May 10th, 2011 4:20 PM

Probably just a construction site. Nothing to see there unless you work there or are fascinated by machinery.

have you actually seen the rivers along Manhattan? trust me it is not somewhere you would want to surf. lol

and that gate in driftvile. why gamefreak? why must you taunt me so?!

the desert is being turned into a resort according to the construction dudes. maybe in the third game there could be some buildings?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this lol. That would be interesting to see. Maybe in 3rd game those areas will be open? Also I love the Unova region on how it looks!

Rai May 10th, 2011 6:50 PM

I thought we were going to be able to surf to the other side of Route 4. I was disappointed. I thought there would at least be a cave or something. But nope, nothing.

2Cool4Mewtwo May 10th, 2011 6:58 PM

There could possibly be couple of addtions like the team plasma branch HQ or something, as someone mentioned earlier (after all, something similar did happen with magma HQ on Emerald), but I really doubt anything will change, let alone a team plasma HQ...

ElectricScyther May 11th, 2011 4:41 AM

Hey hold on. I just realized the Driftveil gate is the Holland Tunnel. It would lead into Castelia, but you wouldn't want to compete with cars in that tunnel. :P

bwburke94 May 12th, 2011 10:55 AM

I'm tempted to make a "your mom" joke here, but even she isn't that big. Even when she's pregnant.

Seriously though, that might be where they move White Forest if they keep it in the third game.

Palkia May 12th, 2011 11:10 AM

It's probably some army bases or a private airport. Nothing interesting.
