Elemental Monkeys

Well, as I just reset my White, and recently got my monkeh, was wondering if anyone uses it for very long, like into the endgame or even up to the E4 the first time around. Before I reset I only kept mine up to Elesa..Then just mehhed it..It was still level 18 lmao XD. I was also wondering your thoughts about them, like how useful they are and if you do decide to keep it, do you keep it un evolved to get those few extra moves? Or do you evolve it as soon as you can to make it look not as wimpy? Just wanted your guys thoughts on the elemental monkeys as a whole ^_^. And heres what I think of them: In the beginning, I believe they are useful, especially for the first gym, but after the first couple they start to become obsolete as new and stronger pokemon become available. Yet seeing as they cover your starters weakness they are especially useful in battles with Cheren, until your final battle at least. All in all, I believe it to be a good pokemon to use until you get into the endgame, or until you can catch other pokemon to cover your starters weakness. Well, theres my two cents..Now what is yours?:P

rstevenson1976 April 18th, 2011 4:34 PM

I think they're quite strong, I used semipour well after the endgame

Dark Piplup April 18th, 2011 4:37 PM

Meh. I never used it once. Except to beat Cilan and to get past the part where you need 2 pokemon. I may someday train my Pansear but not now.

NamelessGuy April 18th, 2011 4:41 PM

As stupid as the elemental monkeys look, my Simipour came in handy several times... Right now, it's chillin' in my PC.

pokemonkidtotodile April 18th, 2011 4:43 PM

I used my simisear untill after the first E4 but now he is in my box un-used

TheMysteryEgg April 18th, 2011 4:45 PM

I replaced my Simisage with Cobalion and then I found out that Cobalian stunk so now it is still with me and I'm about to face the E4.

Dr. Montague April 18th, 2011 4:45 PM

I kept my Panpour around for about 20 more levels or so until after a while, I replaced it for something else (And then put Panpour back because it was better). But if you actually end up evolving it after it learns it's moves beforehand (Or use TMs/HMs) then it can easily do well in battles.

I'm still training mine to get all its moves before evolving it anyways.

Buggyo April 18th, 2011 4:58 PM

My Panpour is sitting in one of my boxes at...level 14. I just never liked the concept of an elemental monkey. x__X

Pyrax April 18th, 2011 5:01 PM

I kept my Panpour until I got to Chargestone cave and decided to backtrack to Nacrene in order to revive Tirtouga.
I then replaced Panpour with Tirtouga.

So now it's sitting in a box at lv.30.

mikey April 18th, 2011 5:19 PM

I used mine for like, a day. I got bored of it fast and boxed it.

I hate them, lol.

Ho-Oh April 18th, 2011 5:42 PM

I'm so glad the other one is finally dead (four months what lol) so that there can be a proper discussion. XD

I got the monkey, decided not to use it against the gym leader, then boxed it. To me they kinda seemed weak, and really, imo, are only useful against the first gym. Plus their designs are weird... :(

shengar April 18th, 2011 6:24 PM

I use elemental monkey, simipour precisely, because my starter is Serperior and there is no decent water pokemon for me. so I decided to keep Simipour in my main team. He's quite useful actually. capable of learning many moves of many types.

Buggyo April 18th, 2011 6:44 PM

Fair enough...water types in Gen V are the fire types of Gen IV. >__>

Seeds Horizon April 18th, 2011 6:48 PM

Yeah I noticed there isnt many decent Water types..This has changed my perspective a bit on the monkeys XD. I think I shall keep mah PanPour around a bit, see if it helps out much ^_^.

Eeohnex April 18th, 2011 7:02 PM

Wish they would have let you chose the Elemental Monkey instead of automatically giving you one depending on which starter you picked, it would've made the game a little bit more interesting for me.

Throughout the game, I did used Pansage, taught him some TM's and evolved him right before the 4th Gym, but didn't used him on the Elite 4. Sure, Pansage did came handy for the 1st & 2nd Gym but after that, it started to lack moves sets in my opinion and of course, as I was continuing the game, better Pokémon appeared. I'm glad they give you an Elemental Monkey in the beginning of the game, something new.

The Nightmare April 18th, 2011 8:05 PM

They are strong with moves and stats and even though they are second evolve they will be strong but I don't use them on my team because they kinda annoying to use when fighting someone.

PrinceTrase April 18th, 2011 8:13 PM

I've only used it to beat that first gym. Then I evolved it to boost my PokeDex another number. It seems that a lot of NPC trainers have them and I dislike like having a Pokemon that everyones uses. Yeah, yeah. The chances are pretty high that someone will have the party that I have, but I like to shake things up. I'm sure they aren't a bad bunch of monkeys once you train them well.

Zenfyre April 18th, 2011 8:23 PM

Since I chose Snivy, I got Panpour for my game and used it up until the Desert Resort area. It was pretty useful but then I got some Pokemon I wanted to use in-game more. Now it's sort of sitting in my box unused, but I plan on breeding it for one to use in a competitive team because I need a good water type.

hayden19 April 18th, 2011 8:58 PM

I used my panpour until about level 45, then I decided to evolve him, got simipour, somewhere around 7th gym I believe, I only used Serperior Victini and Pan/Simipour to beat the game on the first play through. But once I beat it, he was about level 59, I just boxed him and Victini in favour of my pokemon from other gens.

jon328 April 18th, 2011 10:10 PM

i love the monkeys :]
my panpour has come in handy and it's my only water type

i evolved panpour and i really hate how he looks but i still keep him since he comes in handy and has helped me a lot :D

batmon April 18th, 2011 10:34 PM

I got rid of the fire monkey once I was able to get a decent Flying type

PlatinumDude April 19th, 2011 12:21 AM

I kept my Pansear until shortly before arriving at Nacrene. I ditched it at that point because a Timid nature + 2 physical moves didn't seem to cut it. Incinerate was too weak (though it was useful for getting rid of Cheren's Snivy's Oran Berry), and I wish it got Ember instead. There also weren't any places to EV train for Special Attack at that point in the game. Now I use Pansear as my Cut slave.

solarowl April 19th, 2011 1:21 AM

I kept my Pansear for a short while, but only for the first gym. after that, I kept it in my party but didn't train it, only when I got my entire team did I box it.

Shiny_Scyther April 19th, 2011 6:59 AM

Just like almost everyone else that posted before me, I kept my Pansear for the first couple of gyms, then i evolved it the first chance i got (mistake..big mistake)..and now i no longer have a use for it, seeing as how i got my Arcanine from my other game. So, it sits in my box at level 38...until next time, little simisear.

EJ April 19th, 2011 7:10 AM

My Simipour was male but looked like a female.

Simisage looks like Elvis with that hair.

Simisear looks high.

Overall, they have weird designs and mediocre stats. They have their use.

trespasser April 19th, 2011 7:35 AM

I kept my Simipour until I started building a team. Before it was just high level pokemon that i caught. XD (that was after beating the E4 3 times)

Edsbob April 19th, 2011 7:57 AM

To me, BW wasn't a game where I wanted to make an uber team for some reason.

I have a Simisage. He gets the job done with Seed Bomb.
The monkeys, they look great, they get the job done fine.
I love them.

Lateon April 19th, 2011 10:10 AM

I boxed simisage as soon as I could. It would have been useful if it had a decent movepool, but for me he kept getting KO'd left and right

jle1076 April 19th, 2011 10:17 AM

Both Offensive Stats under 100 and with piss poor defenses to match? THEYRE TERRIBLE

morrison April 19th, 2011 10:19 AM

Meh my fire one was weak i didnt keep it in the team. and because I didnt get its name right I never got a firestone...I got a watersone...

Chiar April 19th, 2011 10:55 AM

Quote:

Ummm...they're 98 so it's not a really big difference from 100...
In terms of stats, they aren't that bad. 500 BST isn't a mediocre number.
Their biggest downside are really bad movesets. That's why I never used them for more than 3 days~.

Rai April 19th, 2011 5:32 PM

I liked my Pansear but... I dunno, it just didn't feel right on my team. I don't know if that makes sense.

jle1076 April 19th, 2011 5:39 PM

um 98/98 offensive sets and ~70/~70 defenses along with a shallow movepool= terrible

JP April 19th, 2011 6:17 PM

I used my Simisage for a good while on my one game, however for my Simipour, I ended up boxing it in after I evolved it before battling Burgh lol. That was mainly due to me being stupid and forgetting that they don't learn any moves after evolving. Other thing is that I don't really like these monkeys much. Their first stages are pretty cool, but their evolutions are pretty much butt ugly to me.

big NATE alpha April 19th, 2011 7:29 PM

I used my Pansear until Castelia Gym, at which point I evolved it into Simisear...but then I got Victini and ditched it. I decided to train a bit in post-game, but I still haven't taken much time. It's currently sitting in my box at level 38, but I will soon work on making it better, because it's not a bad Pokemon.

hokala April 20th, 2011 6:15 AM

I like the monkeys. I got a pansear which is good because pinwheel forest is right there for me to train him easily. I like the concept of having basically two starter!

You've said the same thing over and over again. Either you REALLY hate these monkeys and you feel like trolling or you have a REALLY bad memory. XD

Honestly, I saw a lot of use out of my Simisage. Leech Seed is always nice to have around, plus his physical movepool isn't too shabby at all, getting STAB from Seed Bomb, plus Rock Slide and Dig to cover for his weaknesses and you're good to go. XD

johnny18 April 20th, 2011 9:04 AM

I never use them since they are really not my favorite. I guess I'll try to train one someday ^_^

Superjub April 20th, 2011 9:05 AM

When I played the Japanese Rom, I used mine. Hower, in the English version, I ditched mine (Simisage) for a Cottonee, which is now a Whimsicott. I just left it in my box until I got a leaf stone, and then I evolved it just for my PokeDex. XD So yeah, their stats and movepool isn't that great, plus I don't really like any of their evolutions, apart from the fire one which I can tolerate. But then, there are superior fire types, like Chandelure and Emboar (which I have.)

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ April 20th, 2011 10:18 AM

I didn't even use it against the first gym, considering I was at level 18 and my other Pokemon easily took care of the gym leader. Somehow I caught the other two, but currently all three monkeys are just hanging out in Box 2.

Seeds Horizon April 20th, 2011 12:15 PM

Well, I caught Pansage and Pansear, Pansear for Burgh..Seeing as my team is Grass and Grass/Bug types, and its kinda annoying to fight Grass on Grass..So used it to tear through his team *shrugs*. Now that I think about it though..Coulda caught that Darma-something pokemon..probably would have been best *sigh*.

Pwnyta Jockey April 20th, 2011 12:19 PM

Like them after breeding becaus of ROLE PLAY. Such a fun move. Shame they can't Baton Pass.

iMareth April 20th, 2011 1:50 PM

I got Semipour and kept him on my team till the end because he was my water hm slave. Pretty resourceful if you ask me.

AusDon April 20th, 2011 2:24 PM

I don't even remember having it. I traded it through the GTS, I think.
Still need a decent water pokemon (For my Gen 5 team), so it probably wasn't a very good idea. lol

Boarbeque April 21st, 2011 12:27 PM

Elvis...I mean Simisage was on my team the first time i played the games in Japanese. He is actually really good.

Krovvy April 21st, 2011 12:30 PM

Everybody hates them. I think they're pretty good. I use Simisage in my party. Good grass type.

Boarbeque April 21st, 2011 12:31 PM

I hate Simisear for its design and Simipour because its the reason I lose on the Battle Subway.

I like Simisage because it reminds me of Elvis.

Seeds Horizon April 21st, 2011 12:45 PM

Meh. After looking through all these posts seems many tend to discard it for better Pokemon of the same type. I discarded my Panpour for a Ducklett, which then evolved into a Swanna, since it can fly and is also a water type, so win-win :/. Plus it was like 10 levels higher... I had a Snivy/Servine/Serperior already, so didnt need another Grass. For Pansear, I got Darmanitan as soon as I could, since I have noticed it does have better moves...*shrugs* I think later on ill level em up just for the amusement.

Weespotty April 21st, 2011 12:48 PM

Meh, I want to start again because I want the water monkey sooo badly.

Elfie April 21st, 2011 6:48 PM

Meh... I just benched it. Got overleveled, and crushed the first gym. I just don't like evo-stone pokemon that only have one stage. ie.Jigglypuff, Clefable, Munna

Imperator161 April 21st, 2011 10:06 PM

I still haven't beaten the game yet (I'm at the seventh gym), but I'm still using mine. I haven't actually decided precisely what my team should be yet, but my Pansear (yes, I haven't evolved it yet) is still part of my party rotation for the time being. It has a pretty diverse moveset at the moment, and I'm pretty happy with it, even though it's a little weak at the moment (particularly as an unevolved monkey). I don't know if I'll keep using it through the end of the game, but I think I will. I like its semi-novelty value as an early game gift Pokemon.

Molts April 21st, 2011 10:23 PM

I really like the Monkey's design, but I never used mine since I started with snivy, and already had plans on getting dakumara, which wasn't that far in the future. Had I use a different starter I definitely would have used my elemental monkey throughout the game.

Porygon Z April 21st, 2011 11:59 PM

I've just used Pansear as a HM Slave for Cut, Dig and Flash :D
But now, I've trained all of them up to Lv. 45 or something (and evolved) to see which moves they could learn. They didn't suck at all (the moves).

SilverCrown April 22nd, 2011 3:08 AM

I'm using a Simisear in my Wi-Fi team. They're pretty strong!

Misheard Whisper April 22nd, 2011 3:21 AM

I used my Simisear all the way up to the seventh Gym (type advantage \o/) but then ditched it for Chandelure, which is an infinitely better Fire-type. There are many better Fire-types, really. I reckon they're only useful for that first Gym, if I'm being totally honest.

JakeG April 22nd, 2011 3:36 AM

I kept Panpour for I think up to the 4th gym before evolving and boxxing it for stronger water pokemon. I found it really cool and useful for that time.

nate890 April 22nd, 2011 5:02 AM

I really like the elemential monkies. They have a good move set and decent stats. I used my pansear throughout the whole game.

Amore April 22nd, 2011 5:57 AM

I like them...although Simsage's pokédex entry makes it sound a bit horrible, it looked cool when I battled Bianca's Simisage. Simipour is probably the best one, however I dislike its' design. Simisear, I never used because of Victini, but has the best design, I think. Pansear is better than the other two too.

hokala April 22nd, 2011 6:03 AM

I use my monkey all the time. It's very useful.

Rionix April 22nd, 2011 7:02 AM

I didn't train my pansear.. when i got it, it went straight to my pc box and i did not even use it to defeat Cilan... Maybe if they're elemental cats then I would have used them but no.. not monkeys.. :s

Seeds Horizon April 23rd, 2011 3:00 PM

Elemental Cats would have been interesting XD. Or maybe Elemental Rats?:P. When I first read about them, in some game review or perhaps the walkthrough I checked out while waiting for the game to get in, I liked the concept. But after getting one..I was meeehhhh you suck! But maybe ill train it up during my third playthrough and see how good it gets towards the E4 and into the endgame..Might surprise me.

Barn April 23rd, 2011 3:15 PM

I don't like their designs (except for Pansage & Simisage, but I never chose Tepig) so I ditched them after the first gym.

Most people seem to have gotten rid of them..>_<. You know you can get all three elemental types in Pinwheel forest in the shaking grass?:O

Nikorasu April 24th, 2011 12:55 PM

NAh i hate how your just given him, i like to earn my pokemanz

Saryka April 24th, 2011 5:22 PM

I started my game with Tepig and only used the Pansage I was given for the first gym battle against Cress. It's now an occasional HM slave sitting in my PC box. I catch the Elemental Monkeys only for filling my Pokédex, but I don't use them in my party.

Osha_say_wott?! April 28th, 2011 5:35 PM

My starter Pokémon was Oshawott, so the elemental money giving to me n the Dreamyard was Pansear. I've kept it in my team and is my second strongest Pokémon, right behind Samurott. I'm planning to finally evolve him into Simisear when I battle the Icirrus City's gym leader. I tried to add Panpour and Pansage to my team but couldn't train them well enough. =/

Hooh April 28th, 2011 5:56 PM

I never even got Panpour the entire game, and it shall remain like that.

Grålle April 29th, 2011 6:51 AM

I took Pansear after I lost against the gymleader 3 times. I wasn't to happy about using him but after he beat Cilan without any training he have been in my team since then, up till the second time on Elite 4. Now days I train him and the rest of my in-game team to lv 100.

hiff8 April 29th, 2011 12:46 PM

I actually kept my pansage/simisage well forever it was my main guy it excelled ahead of my starter it had great coverage with its moves It had acrobatics a move you get that is weirdly strong for the start, seed bomb, bite, and flash which is (no matter what anyone says) is crazy good. near the end I nearly killed both N and the leader with nothing but him
i only used zerkrom like once XD.

bolter1 April 30th, 2011 8:31 AM

I only used my Pansear for the first gym. Maybe I was just being impatient or picky but he didn't seem to be very stong or have good attacks. Plus incinerate's, my only fire-type attack at the time, animation really bugged since it didn't look like the fire was even reaching the target. After the first gym I threw him in the PC never to see the light again, or at least a very long time.

TwilightBlade April 30th, 2011 10:41 AM

I cringe every time I see them! I could have had 6 cooler Pokemon instead of these silly little monkeys.

I ditched my monkey after the first gym.

Opposite Day April 30th, 2011 11:03 AM

Simipour isn't that bad looking if it is female.

Rather useful too, I loved using mine as a cut slave and as a box filler before the first gym.

Houli April 30th, 2011 12:36 PM

I stopped using my Pansage after the first gym. The problem was that it just took too long to level it even with Audinos. Also it seemed to die a lot.

Vrai April 30th, 2011 4:14 PM

so what if it's male ;DDD

I never really found any kind of use for the monkeys at all. Like Oppo said, it was a Cut slave and then I dumped it off in the box (admittedly, my first monkey stayed with me for some time longer but then ended up in the box anyway so eh).

Hectic April 30th, 2011 4:19 PM

I used it until the end. It was easier then finding a fire pokemon, even if it sucked.

Legendary Silke April 30th, 2011 5:12 PM

They ended up in the PC boxes for not being of much use. Not after I get the other starters from the GTS... I guess I'll just evolve them for the Pokédex and be done with them. They are never going to be on my team.

Air Pichu April 30th, 2011 7:01 PM

I didn't even use it. I got Pansear, which I think is the worst of them all because all he knows is Incinerate, which is a horrible Fire move. Also, there are way better Pokemon in the game in Unova other than the Elemental Monkey.

Kenith April 30th, 2011 11:46 PM

I thought they would be useless at first ^^"

But Semisage proved to be very useful for me, even against the Elite Four. Not the most powerful fire type out there, but he served his purpose well =3

Semipour, I think, is the most gifted. It has Scald it can naturally learn, a water type move that can burn other pokemon. That surprised and really took me off guard that I've always been careful whenever I battle them ._."

calister17 May 1st, 2011 8:01 AM

im not a fan of any of them, i think they are really lackluster.

TTC May 1st, 2011 9:18 AM

The monkeys for the most part are pretty awful. That said, I've seen the water one used in a few wifi battles, and it is actually somewhat functional. I think the other two are borderline useless though.

Jdwg1337 May 1st, 2011 1:49 PM

I obtained a Pansage and kept it all the way untill after the E4, then left it in my PC never to be used again, mainly because its almost useless and looks horrid.

SuperSaiyanII May 3rd, 2011 9:59 AM

They're all ok to me but there are much better grass, fire, or water types in the game that I can use so I prefer not to use any of the elemental monkeys.

GreenBeece May 4th, 2011 3:26 AM

I like (Pan/Simi)sear, (Pan/Simi)pour and (Pan/Simi)sage. Only thing that bothers me is that Simipour is so... hermaphrodite... and most of them are male... I made sure that mine was female.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/c5/Spr_5b_516.png

Zelda May 4th, 2011 3:32 AM

None of the elemental monkeys are that strong, and while semi-training a Pansear for my team I had later on decided to keep it in the PC. Though my favorite would be Pansage/Simisage as its design looks the best out of them all, imo.

Jesspke May 4th, 2011 7:33 AM

Nope. Never.
I use one for the first gym, and then box it. I'm not a fan of them, because the evolutions look weird, and it takes a while for them to use decent moves :/
I feel slightly differant 'cause everybody else uses them...

NatureKeeper May 5th, 2011 9:33 AM

I used my Simisear until Level 20 but replaced it for Victini later. (I know Victini's not that good, but I like it so don't comment.) And yer, I did evolve it. The fire monkeys have a really bad level up set, unlike Victini.

OneofFour May 5th, 2011 9:40 AM

I used Simipour forever in-game. Scald alone makes him useful. Unfortunately, I think a lot of water Pokemon outclass him, so I doubt I'd ever use it again.

Arcaninerz May 5th, 2011 4:03 PM

I was using pansear up until i found a litwick then replaced him since litwick had a better type and also chandelure has one of the best sp. attack stats

adamant57 May 5th, 2011 5:11 PM

I use them until I beat the E4 the first time. Only because they had cute designs. Not to mention the lacking of proper fire types in the game before the E4. My starter was Oshawott so I needed a fire type

PaxAmericana May 5th, 2011 7:35 PM

All of them have pretty good movesets and designs. They all look good in my opinion. All of them have strengths and weaknesses.

9/10

MetalMario May 5th, 2011 8:13 PM

I boxed my Panpour as soon as I caught a Tympole. He did have the last laugh (or cry?) when I brought him back out to use as a water slave post-E4.

Kotone May 6th, 2011 3:01 PM

i kinda like the monkeys. i only used panpour for cut, surf, etc.

Ω Ruby and α Sapphire May 6th, 2011 3:54 PM

I think they are useless. I boxed my pansear after the first gym never to see the light again.....

Im not sure why people dont like the monkeys they rock socks and people saying they would rather have cats or weasels of something if you ask me monkeys are the PERFECT THING but the only thing they are not completely original they have are crazy look a likes to Aipom, almost as nasty as Snivy to Cyndaquil

When I got it I used it to beat the first Gym then it remained in my party unused until I had 6 Pokemon. Then I put it in my box never to be heard of again. Shame really as I like all the monkeys designs (Except their evolutions)

Pokestick, good times. May 8th, 2011 8:05 AM

The flamboyant monkey that some dude gave me so I can troll the first gym?

> Using it made me feel cheap.
> It made a good provisional HM slave.

To be honest, I never even used any of the monkeys as HM slaves at first. After beating the first gym with Pansear, it went straight into my PC. n_n

Still, at least it's neat how GameFreak tries to help give us a way to beat the first gym a bit easily. At least the addition with the three isn't too bad to say they are totally useless.

Well i got Pansage then levelled it up.... and evolved it -_-.... It learned no good moods like seed bomb etc. I was stuck with vine whip. I used him in the Elite 4 then dumped him in my PC.
