Spherical Ice's Pixel Art

hurr original title :D

Here's my latest pixel art, in order from latest to oldest.

From quite a while back,I don't I've posted some of the changes I made here at PC. Anyway for those who dont know I'm on and off making a game called the Adventures of Monokid, and yeah, this is the stuff for it. :D

See, I'm getting into this whole 'art criticism' thingy you've been going on about!

Pyrock, to me at least, looks like a cigar. I like the name, and want to see what it evolves into... according to your DeviantArt page. Posesstone and Oresses look interesting, especially the Psychic demon-thingy coming out of Possestone. I prefer the first name to the second... saying it out loud sounds a little bit weird, to be honest. As for the final two, I like how Eruptot changes from a bomb to a volcano: kinda unexpected, but when you think about it, it begins to make more sense.

Keep it up, I guess!

:D

Originally it was going to be a fish but then I decided against it but the shape kind of stayed intact. I guess a fish is a similar shape to a cigar..? :/ It evolves into Golava, though like Pyrock, I plan to remake it. Yeah, the names are WIPs for both, if I'm honest. And thanks again :D

Will do. :D

Just some trainers. The third one I'm not too sure on. The fire beetle is going to be part of a three stage evolution line, hence it's size. I just haven't gotten around to it. :/

XxxGoblinKingxxX July 3rd, 2011 5:15 PM

those look really cool you should do a dex

PokeDarby July 8th, 2011 3:06 AM

I love it! It's so adorable~

really cool graphics for your game! I think it's difficult to tell what your fakemons are exactly. I'm not saying pokemon are supposed to look like animals but usually they are based off of familiar shapes and colors from real life creatures. Anyways good luck on your game!

I find that true only for Pyrock, the first one. The rest are clearly based on rocks, volcanos and bombs, from left to right. And the fire beetle looks pretty similar to a beetle too, so...

Anywho!

It's for a kind of contest on another forum and we had to make an animation. So yeah.

(I've seen and removed those stray pixels, btw).

No idea why I did this.

Bonechill July 26th, 2011 3:03 AM

Well you just made a Mario reference, so you have my attention!

Keep up your spriting, it's very good!

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ July 26th, 2011 6:13 AM

You did those Mushrooms because they reminded you of the Mario series

These are very well done, the shading and the coloring

A quick suggestion: you could make the shadow grow and shrink as the... garden? floats up and down.

It's cute, like all your characters. I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at when I first saw it. I thought the nose was a mouth like this --> :D

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ August 9th, 2011 9:07 AM

I also agree with Scarf's suggesstion, other than that I love the coloring, the whole idea of the pixel art and the shading. Its so cute, great job!

I would, if it weren't for the fact that Photoshop is stupid and doesnt open frames in separate layers upon opening .gif files. But yeah, I'll bear it in mind the next time I draw a giant garden thing something floating :>

Thanks!

A character from Cilerba's Ammo Friends (see sig), an illogical Pokéball which I can't edit because of the aforemention idiocy of Adobe, a pixel of some plushie I got when I was born and what it looks like now and a small mockup where you are a boy who delivers and collects parcels for Guppy Couriers.

Esper August 31st, 2011 11:40 AM

Aw, what a cute and sad plushie that is.

And that's a strange thing your photoshop is doing. Mine (forget which version it is, not at my computer right now) lets me open a .gif and look at the frames as long as I have the animation window thingy open.

All you need is a zipper to replace your giraffe's mouth... then your plushy will truly be a banettezation ^^

Anyhow, The stuffing coming out of the giraffe is great! Though it's such a small detail, it is one that really makes that sprite stand out! I am especially fond of the portion on the neck where the stuffing is sitting flat, adjacent with the head! This little detail shows great skill in linear progression of distance ^^ VERY nicely done!

I think that you have very great potential, your work is absolutely amazing!

tnguye3 September 9th, 2011 3:58 PM

The sprites and tiles of Monokid look phenomenal!
I can already picture the game being made with Game Maker!

Great work -- I'm looking forward to seeing more Monokid sprite sheets. :)

I was just messing about and got something that looked like a horn, then kind of winged the rest of the piece.

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/043/5/c/monokid_3_0_by_sphericalice-d4ph4a9.png
This is just Monokid.

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/043/c/e/monokid___dinokid_powerup_by_sphericalice-d4ph3zm.png
This is Monokid when he's got a dinosaur powerup :3

And finally, for a while I've been wanting to do some low-resolution pixel art. Here's the result.
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/113/d/6/dotmen_by_sphericalice-d4xaynr.png
They're just a few characters, it should be quite obvious what they are, but if not it's a skeleton, pirate, samurai and ninja.

Even lower resolution:
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/113/b/f/pokeglyphs_by_sphericalice-d4xbtjb.png
These are 8x8 "glyphs" of a few Pokémon. I don't really like the Diglett one, I might change it.

Very colourfull sprites, like em alot!

PokeGuideHD June 11th, 2012 11:06 PM

Pyrock looks pretty cool, except maybe that it looks slightly monsterish and not enough like a Pokemon. Overall nice work.
