How do you feel about the amount of vending machines? [ #30 ]
How do you feel about the amount of vending machines?Going to be changing the format for a few weeks. Anyways, the last thread on this hasn't been alive for a while, so I figured we might as well ask it as a weekly poll! You may notice that almost everywhere you go there are... well, vending machines. Whether that be in a city or in a route (yeah it even occurs in some routes), they just seem to appear out of nowhere. Do you use them? And do you think there are two much? I mean, you've even got two vending machines next to each other... do you -really- need them? But yeah share your thoughts on the vending machines :D http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/45/Ani507MS.png If you have any ideas, let us know! We may not use them straight away, but we will eventually. :D |
I don't mind. I don't use them because It's too easy to find a doctor or go to a Pokémon Center. I've noticed that there are a lot of them, but they never get in my way and I'm sure a lot of players find them very convenient.
|
I don't use the vending machines often, but I think there should be more of them around on the game :D
|
I don't necessarily feel annoyed by the excessive amount. But I feel it's a bit too much, making the game even more easier than this is just too much In My Opinion.
|
I believe they are there to add flavor to the game, mostly, and not to make it easier. I appreciate them being there for that reason, but I don't recall using them.
|
Of course they're helpful but some of them are in weird places like in the center of Twist Mountain and in the desert near Relic Castle.
|
Well it's all part of the "New York" theme isn't it? I'm pretty sure i've seen loads of vending mahcines around NY, they even have "Pokémon Center" vending machines around malls in america, take a look at this one;
Spoiler:
But yeah, to be honest, I haven't actually taken much notice to them that much. Neither have they really effected much of my gameplay so yeah... |
They're annoying and you can't buy in bulk. You have to buy one at a time and it takes time -_- There's too much and they don't do much since we have Nurses and Doctors now :)
|
Meh. I use them when I need a healing item. Other than that, they do help make the game feel more... City-like. o-o
|
I certainly don't mind them. It sure beats running back to the Poke "All in One" MartCenter for my healing items. I can simply stroll up, buy as many Lemonades as I need to tide me over, then be on my way.
I also think they add to the more urban feel of the region. |
I don't really mind but they can come in handy sometimes I suppose
|
I don't mind how many there are but I do mind the price it's outrageous I just wish you had the option to kick them and get a freebie.
|
Too many.
MooMoo milk > Vending Machine Why does Castelia have TWO side by side in that fountain square anyway? |
I did notice how there seemed to be loads of vending machines this time around, I like them for Fresh Water, as they seem to be super cheap compared to Super Potions. When I need to restore more for Pokemon with higher HP, then I'll use the Moo Moo Milk.

I really don't mind the vending machines. Unova is, after all, based on New York, which in turn is in the United States, and everybody knows how much the U.S. likes convience. It just makes sense.
|
Lemonade is the best freakin' deal ever. If a Potion cost only 300 Pokédollars and heals 20 HP, then compare that to Lemonade's 80 HP pick for only a meager 350? There are times when a Hyper Potion, or a Max Potion/Full Restore can come in handy, but man, I just love gunking my Pokémons' throats down with that citrus flavor taste. :V
Anyway, can't get enough of those vending machines. Totally an atmospheric win there for me. |
I don't use them, but I suppose they do add a lot more realism to the game, and make it easier for some people.
|
I've noticed them, but I never use them. I think I used one like once, before the E4.
|
It almost makes up for the weird, seemingly higher encounter chance where you finish up a battle and BARELY MOVE and get jumped. Which seems to happen to me an awful lot. I don't think it makes the game any easier since wild encounters are often more difficult when you visit the area for the first time--it balances out.
It also gives a more urbanized feel to the region compared to other games. Though it was amusing to find a vending machine on the route into Desert Resort. Well placed, but a bit wtf. One would think the vending machine would be inoperable in a sandstorm... |
I don't understand why people would care at all.

I don't mind. Honestly, I didn't even use them or remember about those anyways. D:

How can you have a problem with the vending machines? There are two things which they might violate, narrative and gameplay mechanics, and they harm neither.
Narrative: wow, there sure are a lot of vending machines in this world! It's almost like things other than Pokemon are meant to use the products which come out of them... oh wait, I as a human drink lemonade. So I guess that makes sense. Gameplay: I love having access to economical effective healing items at the mid-game level. But doesn't that make things a tad too easy? Oh wait, there's tons of free healing throughout this game (doctors are a way bigger offense), these items are not terrible useful towards the end of the game, and it's not like this campaign was ever hard to begin with. Honestly, I don't get what all the fuss was about. Pokemon games have never been known for the incredibly intricate design of game progression and the difficulty curve, and I don't think vending machines in this generation somehow makes that even more problematic. TL;DR: The vending machines are fine. Complain about something else. |
I don't really mind if vending machines are everywhere around Unova. The thing I mind about is the amount of item we can get from them. I wish they've added an option of how many item we will buy from it. Instead of clicking and clicking it one by one.
|
Well, I barely notice them. I see them just as id see a bush or a tree. Though they are handy when your out of potions you can buy lemonades I suppose *shrugs* though I barely used them.
EDIT: Also, if you walk IRL to almost any store or strip mall, and malls in general, you cant walk 20 steps without encountering a vending machine or two, so it gives the game a more real-like feeling. |
