Gym dude giving you fresh water?

As anyone else wondered why the guy in the front of each gym gives you a fresh water? It doesn't have much significance, but I'm wondering why Game Freak would add that.

Starrodkirby86 April 24th, 2011 5:15 PM

I thought that the gym caretaker, Clyde, was a pretty cool guy, really. I like how Game Freak upped the gym caretakers much more than just your regular, average NPC.

I suppose they further did this to add more user-friendliness to the trainers. I'm sure the Fresh Water could have helped when situations got a little more tense earlier on in the game. I don't mind it all though, and I thought it was really nice to have something as recurring as this. :)

He even talks about all the Fresh Waters he gave you after you obtain the eighth badge. ;w;

uhhh6677 April 24th, 2011 5:17 PM

Yeah, I guess so. I thought it was a nice touch by GF. Maybe in the next game we'll get a lemonade at every gym ;)

Oryx April 24th, 2011 5:20 PM

I thought it was super cute, because he always, always helped you in every other game, but you didn't know anything about him and I felt bad D: Now he's my good friend Clyde! I wanna take him on my journey!

Seeds Horizon April 24th, 2011 5:23 PM

To be brutally honest, I would have lost quite a few gym battles without those phr33 fresh waters ;_;. And even if I didnt use them in the later gyms, outside of them in between battles I used them as a free heal :3. All in all, extremely useful especially in the early gyms and the early game in general, and shouldnt be underestimated.

King Of The Blues April 24th, 2011 5:25 PM

I like it, it's a nice little feature.

I do think that fresh water is helpful. It's even more helpful early on in the game.

Xyrin April 24th, 2011 5:32 PM

I loved the fresh water. I'm always running out of money. So a free mini potion before a battle is really nice. Mostly at the first few gyms.

NamelessGuy April 24th, 2011 5:42 PM

"Please take this Fresh Water!"

That's going to be a classic quote for years to come.

mikey April 24th, 2011 5:54 PM

It actually helped me out a couple of times, im glad they added something like that xD

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire April 24th, 2011 5:56 PM

I found them quite helpful specially when I was low on both potions and money...

Zelda April 24th, 2011 6:06 PM

hey it's free water and its fresh, why would you refuse??

I honestly think its a pretty neat add on. I know it helped whenever I forgot to buy potions along whichever way I was heading. It's worth saving the $200 in expense each time too, if you think about it. So I won't complain, I think it's a nice little feature given to the guy. Makes him a bit more useful to be honest, as in previous generations I wouldn't really bother talking to him in each gym as I knew there wasn't anything too special to hear from him. n__n

Shorty- April 24th, 2011 8:29 PM

I thought it was great. Got me out of trouble a couple times. Great feature.

Rionix April 24th, 2011 9:02 PM

I like it. The dude is pretty much a charity. Especially on my first and second gym challenges, its quite useful. And most of all, its totally free :P

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ April 24th, 2011 9:11 PM

Can't complain about free healing items, though I do wish he upgraded to Moomoo Milk or Lemonade for the final few gyms. I don't recall if I used the freebie in the respective gym battle, but I do know that each and every one of them got used at some point in the game.

XAndyyX ss April 24th, 2011 9:54 PM

i think its because he wants you to heal your pokes so they dont die in the gym :)

Ho-Oh April 24th, 2011 10:00 PM

I think it's just to make the games easier for new players tbh. I kept forgetting to talk to him though, lol :( Soooo I only ended up with like 3 fresh waters! How anoying.

Satoshi Ookami April 25th, 2011 12:36 AM

It's cool feature :D Well as I'm always saying BW games are revolution :D
Even though I've not used those Fresh Waters :D
I just picked it and left it in my bag =) It somehow reminded me how many gym I've beaten :D

PlatinumDude April 25th, 2011 12:56 AM

Free recovery items never hurt. The gym guy got a lot more useful this generation apart from giving advice.

Pika99 May 2nd, 2011 10:27 AM

i think is a good ideia..make the game more modern..xD

FalconsDrummer May 2nd, 2011 10:34 AM

In the first few Gyms I did actually use that Fresh Water in the battle with the Leader. Granted, I had bought Potions and stuff in preparation, but the free water was cool. Clyde is one cool dude, I say.

Soul Eater May 2nd, 2011 10:36 AM

Call me lame, but I was a few Gyms in before I noticed that he gave out a Fresh Water, because I'm pretty sure I didn't bother talking to him every time. I was always stalked up on various Potions anyway, though.

Palkia May 2nd, 2011 10:41 AM

The problem with Clyde giving you Fresh Water is that about 6 Gyms into the game they are almost worthless unless you have pokemon with a bad HP stat. I support the idea of getting free recovery items, although they need to be different for each gym.

heroherohero May 2nd, 2011 10:54 AM

I thought it was pretty neat. I always just take a trip back to the pokemon center if I have to though. I very rarely use items tbh.

I agree sorta, sorta-notta
i think if it was like:
fresh water = 50HP
soda pop = 100HP
& lemonade = 150HP
and you got: FW 1st-3rd gym
SP 4-6thgym & LA
7&8th gym then itd be perfect
but either way i liked it, at first i thought he only did it in gym 1&2 cuz thats the only time he ever came to me and gave it to me, but afterwards i figured out its in every gym (i hardly ever talked to the helper guy -clyde- after gen3)

hiff8 May 2nd, 2011 1:29 PM

The first time i saw him in the earlier games i thought he was some kind of pedophile you would get to a gym and he would be like "hey *INSERT TRAINER NAME HERE* hows your journey" and i would be like " 0.0 Htf do you know my name? " but now hes my BFF i like to call him uncle Clide i named my first heirder after him!

ElectricScyther May 2nd, 2011 3:16 PM

The fresh waters were very useful, but I think the best part of this is that it adds a bit more depth to the pokemon world.

Rai May 3rd, 2011 1:55 PM

I love the Fresh Water Guy. They came in handy and as I said in another thread, I had no idea Fighting, Steel and Rock were super effective against Ice types until the Water Guy at the seventh gym told me @[email protected]
