this is about the 3rd time ive actually tried EV training, i messed up on some of my team along the line and there EV's got to spread out, im using HG/SS. so do i now basically just use E.V berries to take away the EV's in the stats i dont want and start over on the stats i want trained?
(i did it correctly with my alakazam and he came out amazingly, he stomps over anyone who hasnt the slightest clue what their getting into when i tell them im a "competitive" player) And as for a final member to my team im not to sure what i want. so suggestions? i was thinking snorlax |
Pikachu ev training :O?
Basically I got a light ball and a female pikachu and bred it with a male in the same egg group many times till i got a timid nature pikachu with a volt tackle , i then went and started killing starlys then i moved on to the pokemon mansion and killed pichus/pikachus so i get speed stat . These are the current stats.
Pikachu (female) Item= lightball lvl:40 HP:82 Attack:47 Defense:39 Sp.Atk: 53 Sp.Def:48 Speed:115 These are the stats but im not sure if i should continue ev training speed or i should ev train special attack im pretty confused can anybody guide me please? ty in advance |
Should be moved in in-game team help.
Do you have an idea how much EV points you have in your Sp.Attack and Speed stat? You should have around 252 EV points for both (SpA and Spe) and just leave of the 4 to Def. |
choosing between IV spreads
Hi,
I'm currently breeding for a Mix Flygon and I have now hatched these two and am torn between them to choose which one to use. I have: Trapinch : Rash / 09/30/30/31/31/24 and Trapinch : Rash / 24/28/30/31/23/29 I'd like to know which one you would choose and why. Is more HP valuable on a Mix attacker? Is it worth the loss of SpD? Am I overlooking something? Thanks for your help :) |
Random battle question:
Hello everyone, What has three heads and is also a Pokemon? If you guessed Hydreigon, then you are correct! I have a Hydreigon that I want to use mainly for random battles online, which is 3v3, lvl 50, flat rules. He's maxing EVs in SpA and Spd. Right now, his current move set is, Draco meteor, surf, dragon pulse, flamethrower. I'm wondering about what the best move set would be for random battles. I feel like I don't need draco meteor and dragon pulse both, but I don't like the major spa drop from draco meteor. However, I'm not sure how long Hydreigon can last before fainting, and I know 2 draco meteors is better than 2 dragon pulses. Should I only keep one of them? I'm considering switching a move out with Focus Blast, probably either Surf, Draco Meteor, and Dragon Pulse. Is this a good idea, and if so, which one would be best to switch out? And finally, should I keep flamethrower, or switch to fire blast? Accuracy vs power in random battle online. Thanks in advance. |
Is baton passing to a choice item ever a good idea? (For example, passing a shell smash boost from gorebyss to a scarfed/banded terrakion. Or should I just use a different, completely physical moveset on terrakion?)

Quick question that I need answered for a team I'm building.
If I have a pokemon with the ability Water Absorb, if he were to use Substitute and then get hit with a water attack, will he absorb the water like normal and his Substitute also takes no damage, or does the Substitute take the damage and fade since it was protecting the pokemon with Water Absorb? Thanks in advance. |

help plz! cant decide on my pokemon team!!!
So far I have tyranitar and scizor but I don't know which of the following pokemons I should pick to have an amazing team!! This is a list of what I was thinking but I don't know which ones should I pick:
Blissey Blasiken Gyarados Elective Mamoswine Machamp Tentacruel Dragonite Aerodactyl Gengar Wobbufet And if you can also provide me with movesets I will appricoate it very much guys thanks for helping a noob like myself!! Also if you have a better suggestion than the ones I listed above let me know my version is soul silver :) |
Out of these Bagons, which are best to invest into (EV training, sets? They all have Dragon Dance and Dragon Rush). Females have been listed so I can chain-breed with those.
1) Mild - 30/31/31/25/31/27 2) Modest - 15/31/21/27/31/5 3) Adamant - 6/31/31/27/31/15 (female) 4) Naive - 31/31/17/9/14/5 5) Lonely - 29/31/31/30/4/31 6) Mild - 31/31/16/0/1/23 The following are all Naughty: 7) 29/31/16/13/11/5 (female) 8) 29/31/23/26/31/14 9) 29/31/30/14/31/27 10) 18/31/16/31/29/10 11) 13/31/2/4/31/5 (female) 12) 26/31/2/31/2/5 (female) 13) 21/31/16/11/21/31 14) 31/31/16/30/23/22 (female) 15) 13/31/19/31/14/19 |
I feel some of my POKeMON's (see Trainer Card below) true battle capacity has been dulled because of the HMs. I only have 1 water POKeMON on my team (POLIWRATH) and he's essentially the water HM *****, which bothers me because I would like to use his FIGHT type in some way with some fight moves... Do you think I should catch another Poliwag and train him to be a battler and less of a story moving element.
POLIWRATH's Moves Whirlpool Surf Waterfall Hypnosis (the only reason this remains is to make tough catches easier.) |
A bit of a big question, I'll explain it in a form of story.
So let's say there's a Ghost + Dark type pokemon and shedinja in a battle. We'll make Sableye an example. Sableye uses skill swap on shedinja. Bam! He can't be touched now. Can he be affected with Odor Sleuth to make normal and fighting types hit it? Then used any fighting type moves until he dies? Please answer, or test it if you can. |

My Tyranitar (Please Rate)
Tyranitar @ Hard Stone Nature: ?
Ability: Sandstream Moves: Ancientpower Thunder Icebeam Aerial Ace Ancientpower is the principle move here mainly at the cause of that Tyranitar gets 90 Power when you calculate STAB and the hard stone gives an added boost which brings this dinasuars Ancientpower power (redundancy, i know) to roughly a sweeper-worthy 108, which is even better than E-Quake and it boosts all of his stats one stage. Thunder is awesome on T-tar because of the sheer power, not to mention the added coverage. Icebeam is another coverage move but with better accuracy. And aerial ace covers him but also never misses, which is useful when you consider how many times you see: sand-attack, double team, minimize or any other accuracy lowering or evasion rising move there is out there. Altogether, when T-tar gets going he isn't likely to be stopped. |
Ancient Power is not very viable competitively, nor is non-Technician Aerial Ace. Thunder should not be used outside of Rain.
Anyway, you should be utilizing Tyranitar's great Attack. I suggest a Choice Scarf for revenge killing and late game sweeping. Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf Jolly Nature- 252Att/252Spe/4HP Stone Edge Crunch Pursuit Aqua Tail/Superpower |
Okay, thnx for the suggestion but wat do you mean by 'not very viable' and i can't take aerial ace out because of coverage
|
Quote:
-AncientPower runs off of Tyranitar's weaker attack stat. It also isn't very strong (at 60 BP, 90 if you take STAB in account). Its side effect of boosting all stats has a low chance of happening (10%) -While Aerial Ace gives Tyranitar a way for dealing with Grass, Bug and Fighting Pokemon (Breloom, Virizion and Heracross come in mind), it doesn't have much utility outside of that. A neutral Superpower (at 120 BP, no STAB, since Tyranitar isn't Fighting) does as much damage as a supereffective non-STABed Aerial Ace (at the cost of lowering your physical stats, but you can always switch). Superpower also has better coverage and it deals with opposing Steel Pokemon, something that your proposed set has difficulty accomplishing outside of Thunderbolt. Another possible set here can be used to take advantage of Tyranitar's bulk and relatively wide move pool: -Stealth Rock -Crunch -Fire Blast -Ice Beam/Stone Edge/Superpower Nature: Sassy EVs: 252 HP/64 SAtk/192 SDef Item: Leftovers Ability: Sand Stream |
this is probably the best place to ask this but since i cant figure this out with hidden power calculators
I need to maximize Eelektross hidden power ice effectiveness Currently (salamence looses 35% health and it has 4x weakness to it): ( i am using a Special Eelectross) HP 21 Attack 12 Defense- 24 Sp. Attack 13 Sp. Defense 17 Speed 15 |

Quick question: which is this a good set for a modest megnazone?
Megnazone @ Leftovers @ Sturdy Modest Nature- 252 Sp.Att/252 Def/4HP Thunder Wave Thunder Mirror Coat lock-On |
Quote:

Quote:
Magnezone @Choice Specs Magnet Pull Modest (+SpA; -Atk) 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe - Hidden Power [Fire] - Thunderbolt - Volt Switch - Flash Cannon Magnezone doesn't have an impressive movepool, but with a base 130 SpA it will surely kill something. Especially if you can switch in on Ferrothorn, Scizor, Forretress etc Magnet Pull doesn't let Steel types switch so you can kill them. |
Guys i am thinking of using this Setup on Togekiss:
Is it a bad idea? Ev: 176 Hp * 80 Spa *252 Spe Nature : Modest Held Item Leftovers Trait: Serene Grace -Roost -Tri-attack -Ancient Power -Air Slash and thanks in advance |

Estimating IVs before catching a Pokémon?
I don't know where exactly this would go, so feel free to move it if necessary, mods.
Since the Random Number in the Damage Formula is pretty small (a range of 15% of total damage), shouldn't it be possible to find a range of [Special] Attack IVs before even catching a pokémon? Damage is known, your pokémon's defense is known, and Level is known. The only remaining variables in the Damage Formula are the offending pokémon's [Sp.] Attack stat and Rand(85,100). Given a high enough level pokémon (where IVs will have a better effect), it would be possible to find the Minimum IV needed to do the damage and the Maximum IV. After multiple attacks, the range would become more narrow as long as the random number is different since all other variables are constant for a single pokémon. Can someone tell me if I'm wrong in all this? Has anyone ever gone through the trouble to find the math for all this? |
Advice Needed please!!!
I am working with my Nidoking that I hatched myself and am trying to find a moveset that will allow him to be able to stand his ground against other Pokemon that are his weakness. If you don't know, his weaknesses are:
Water / Ice / Ground / Psychic This is how he looks currently: Lv. 59 Ability - Poison Point Stats: HP - 185 Attack - 130 Defense - 117 Sp. Atk - 120 Sp. Def - 99 Speed - 141 Moveset: Head Smash <-- Bred into him Megahorn <-- to combat Psychic-types Earthquake Toxic I don't know too much about IV's or EV's but I am getting the basics down for EV training I just don't really worry about it much at all. Advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of teaching him Thunderbolt but I'm not too sure... |
Get Nidoking with sheer force. Teach it Thunderbolt/Ice beam/Earth Power/Fireblast (or flamethrower). Make it timid/modest. Give it a life orb. This is what makes Nidoking usable.
|
What ^ said. Its probably the only good moveset for Nidoking.
|
Merged Rashaden's and keoShine questions into Q&A. |
Is The community's PO server wack at the moment? When I connect, I get,

Quote:
Nidoking @ Choice Scarf Modest (+SpA; -Atk) / Timid (+Spe; -Atk) Sheer Force 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe ~ Earth Power ~ Sludge Wave / Fire Blast ~ Ice Beam ~ Thunderbolt Nidoking has pretty basic speed, so a Choice Scarf is a nice item for it considering Sheer Force + its booster powered moves + amazing coverage allow it to hurt a lot of things. Sludge Wave is a nice STAB that gets boosted by Sheer Force but doesn't get coverage on much. I'm pretty sure there's a Hone Claws set that utilizes Hone Claws and Rock Slide, too. |
Quote:
-Hone Claws -Earthquake -Blizzard -Thunder/Fire Blast Nature: Naive EVs: 40 Atk/252 SAtk/216 Spe Item: Life Orb Ability: Sheer Force Sheer Force Nidoking also gained the elemental punches in B2/W2, so it can use them in place of the special moves listed above. |

Ev training advice / suggestions for a Competitive team?
Hey everyone.
I'm making a competitive team and i'm not sure what to use for my Ev's. so far I have a mudkip with perfect Iv's and Curse/ waterfall and avalanche. I'm not sure what to put his Ev's as. Should i give him 252 Hp/252 attack/4 defence? Or 252hp/252defence/4 attack? Also, i'm hopefully getting a ferrowthorn with 31/31/31/31/31/31 iv's. How should I Ev him also? I may also get a Flawless Larvitar. How should I ev him? I'm assuming I should put 252 ev's in Attack of course. But should I but the rest in defence? Or hp? Thank you for taking the time to read this ^_^ I look forward to your responses! |
Well, if Mudkip has Curse, give him 252HP/40Def/216Speed. If you also want to consider the moveset... Here's one I got on the smogon forums. Curse+Resttalk Curse/Waterfall/Rest/SleepTalk.
Ferrothorn is a little tricky. I would make sure he has 0 Speed IVs so a Gyro Ball would work. I would have his EVs at 252HP/88Def/168Sp.Def. He should run the moveset of: GyroBall/PowerWhip/ThunderWave/LeechSeed I don't know about Larvitar though. Maybe 252 Atk/192Speed/64Def? |

Cool! I'll get started on mine now! Hopefully I won't be flamed into oblivion... Haha, I'm kidding! :D

And with swampert, would this work? Moveset Ev's: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Speed ~ Waterfall / Aqua Tail ~ Earthquake ~ Ice Punch / Stone Edge ~ Superpower And I think those Ev's with Larvitar would be pretty good. Maybe a little boost to hp or defence by halfing speed or something ;D |

And the above EV spread looks okay to me. |

Do you have a suggested moveset/strategy for him? I've never used him before, I've heard he's amazing. |
Quote:
-Spikes/Stealth Rock -Leech Seed -Gyro Ball/Thunder Wave/Protect -Power Whip/Protect Nature: Relaxed EVs: 252 HP/88 Def/168 SDef Item: Leftovers/Shed Shell Since B2/W2 is coming soon, you can also use all 3 of Stealth Rock, Spikes and Leech Seed, plus an attacking move, but that leaves you as near-complete set-up bait. |

Can you help my Gengar?!
Ok so i have a Lv.70 Timid (speed+, att-) Alert to Sounds Gengar Ev trained with 252 speed 252 sp attack 4 HP, according to 3 different IV calculators it has 31 IV in speed 24 in SP.A and 19 in HP. I use a life orb on him.
now for the problem, i've battled 2 people now on WIFI at lv. 50 cap whom also lead with a Gengar, assuming mine is faster i substituted hoping for a miss but both times i was outsped and one shotted by their shadow ball, now assuming the fact that i was outsped ment that they were using choice scarf i switch in my milotic to take care of him.... to which i eat a thunderbolt which obviously means they're not choiced, i also one shotted they're gengar back to which they responded to by holding on with focus sash, which eliminated the possibility of a quick claw or something of that nature. So my question is how is this possible for this to happen twice when by all accounts my Gengar couldnt be any faster bar choice scarf? the only thing that i can think of is since shes not level 100 all of her EV havent been "activated" however i cant find any information as to if you need to level to 100 for all 252 EVs to be active at lv 50. cap, id think that type of thing would be all over the place warning people that they need to hit level 100 for their EV training to be fully effective in 50 cap battles if that were true, so im at a loss. Help me out |
You might not have EV Trained it properly, put in the wrong EV's into the IV Calculator and it calculated it wrong. But Alert to Sounds is the only characteristic that will give an IV of 31... Use pokecheck to check your IV's and EV's. Other than that they might be max speed as well, meaning you have a 50/50 chance of striking first. I guess you've been unlucky if that's the case. Hope this helped.
|
Yea i never considered that i screwed up the EVs, just went and berried all stats except speed and sp att, all couldnt go any lower on first berry except hp which couldnt go any lower on second berry, guess i am just unlucky :( thanks.

Searching for opponents..
Hello,
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or.. When I go to the first floor of the pkmn center and look for a random match (free mode), it keeps telling me 'Searching for your opponent..'. I've waited for 15/20 minutes and still haven't found an opponent. Maybe it's looking for opponents with similar stats? I haven't won any match and have lost 7 times, so maybe it can't find someone with such bad stats haha. Are there other ways to battle against random people online? |
There are other ways to battle random people online, but they aren't available on the Ds. You have to download either Pokemon Online or go to Pokemonshowdown, both are battle simulators which let you create your own team and battle others. n_n

First of all, you shouldn't pay attention to braggers. They may have beaten you, but nobody likes a bragger. Second, although they may be useful at times, status attacks aren't worth keeping. My team only know attack-attacks, and I beat pretty much anything. Teach all your Pokemon non-status moves, and you're well on your way to beating these braggers. Third, level your Pokemon up a bunch of times and you'll have a good upper hand. Fourth, looks like you've battled them enough times to know their main team. With that information, you can form a powerful team with type advantages. And lastly, if your so called friends keep bragging, just say something witty, like 'You win, you lose, it doesn't really matter'
Good luck ;) |
If you wanna put all attacking moves, prepare to get walled...alot.

Need Water Pokemon for Wifi Team.
Hey everyone this is my first time posting here so here it goes. I recently starting making an online team for Pokemon SS and I have most of my team figured out, I just can't decide on what water pokemon I should use. This is my team so far: Snorlax, Scizor, Arbok/Gengar, Dragonite and Arcanine. And the water Pokemon I am interested in using are: Blastoise, Kingler, Gyarados, Suicune or Kabutops. Any advice on my team would be much appreciated, but I really need to find a water Pokemon, Thanks.

Hi guys i've posted few days ago in the WB section asking for some help. Ninjagon suggested to write in this section so after i spent some time reading an online guide i think i'm ready to ask few more questions. Now i've figured out how levelling and stat work (nature, iv, ev ecc) but the guide i read (smogon university) was based on fourth generation games. Are there new ways to ev effectevely? other than power items and pokerus. Btw from what i've read seems impossible to ev during the "main plot", it should be done after i beat the game right? Is it hard or is better just to use simulators? I'd also like to know how stat directly influence damage. For example how defence reduces the damage you take? Is there a particular formula?
Sorry for all these questions |
Quote:
-Health Wing: HP -Muscle Wing: Attack -Resist Wing: Defense -Genius Wing: Special Attack -Clever Wing: Special Defense -Swift Wing: Speed It's kind of possible to EV train in-game, but you may have to take some time off from the main storyline grinding in routes as opposed to fighting other trainers (it's easier to do on physical attackers early on, since non-White players will have a hard time EV training their Special Attacking Pokemon, considering that Petilil, a Pokemon who gives out Special Attack EVs, isn't in Black; those players will have to wait till much later on, when they'll encounter Litwick in Celestial Tower) A little off-topic, and for your knowledge, here are the B/W EV training spots: -HP: Stunfisk (Iccirus City) -Attack: Patrat, Lillipup (Route 1) -Defense: Roggenrola (Wellspring Cave); Sewaddle, Venipede (Pinwheel Forest) -Special Attack: Litwick (Celestlal Tower); Petilil (Pinwheel Forest, Lostlorn Forest; White only) -Special Defense: Frillish (Route 17, Route 18, Driftveil City; surfing) -Speed: Basculin (any lake); Woobat (Wellspring Cave) Read this article and scroll down to "damage formula" (sorry if this isn't much help, but it's all I can think of) |
Thanks that's what i was looking for ;) Now i'll play just to enjoy the main story then i'll see if it'll be more convenient to start ev training directly on W2

Serious question. Has everyone I remember died or just this section?

Guys is always convenient to evolve pokemon the sooner possible? Both for ingame and competitive purposes. For example pokemon that evolves through items
|
Quote:
This also applies to Pokemon that evolve by level-up. When a Pokemon evolves into another, its new form learns its moves slower than its previous stage. For example, Cranidos learns Head Smash at level 46, but Rampardos learns it at level 58. Some evolved Pokemon also learn moves that are different from their pre-evolved forms; for instance, Shroomish learns Spore at level 45, but Breloom learns DynamicPunch at that level instead. However, there are a few exceptions. Pokemon that evolve through trade (like Kadabra into Alakazam and Gurdurr into Conkeldurr) tend to learn the same moves at the same levels. Some unevolved Pokemon (like Magikarp and Tynamo) have bad level-up move sets, so they must be evolved as soon as possible to make them better in battle. A few Pokemon that evolve by holding an item then leveling up (Sneasel into Weavile, Gligar into Gliscor) have similar move sets to their evolved forms, though a few (like Happiny into Chansey) are completely different. The same applies to Pokemon that evolve by leveling up in certain places (like Magneton into Magnezone). |

Random Matchup Problem
Hey guys. I just finished using Pokégen to get a new NU Sun Team. When I went to test to see if these Pokés were legal, it claimed my there was a problem with my Pokémon. I narrowed it down and found that these 3 were the issue. NOTE: The fact that I got these from Pokégen is not the issue.

I'm a bit in a rush. When I'm not I will edit the mistakes. Anyways I hope what you know what I mean. Also all these are level 100. Please tell me what's wrong with these Pokémon. |
Is it because they are all Fateful encounters? I dont battle from WiFi so im not familiar with these things. Is Prankster released yet on Volbeat?
Hope i helped |
Quote:
Volbeat's DW Ability is Prankster. I have no problem getting in with Pokémon such as Drizzle Politoed, so no, I don't think that's the problem. |
I think the problems are the Volbeat and Regirock.
As for Volbeat, it shouldn't have it's dream world ability if it was caught on Route 3. Also, since Regirock was met in the Dream World, its ability should be Sturdy, not Clear Body. |
Okay, I will try this. But what about V-Bel? Isn't he a White Forest Pokémon?
|
Bellsprout is able to be legitimately caught in white forest, and thus has its non-DW ability, so it's probably good.
