Would you like to see R/B/Y & G/S/C in the eShop?
So it occured to me that theres a posibility that Nintendo might release the first Pokémon games created that are no longer playable on current consoles, that is Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver & Crystal.
This got me really excited because I always get the urge to play these but hardly can anymore, only with ROMS on my Computer/Laptop, which lets face it, its alright but its not as good as on the handheld besides, they might implement new features such as multiplayer online batteling via Infra red or wireless/Wi-Fi but still keeping it the same game, its unlikely but possible. My question is, would you like to see and would you buy Pokémon R/B/Y & G/S/C games in the eShop? |
Yes, and yes, especially for GSC.
|
Probably not.
We already have FRLGHGSS, after all. |
True, but the whole idea of the eShop is to release older games for older consoles such as the GB, besides some people prefere the older to the remakes.
|
No, I have the cartridges, so I personally could careless. If I want to play them again I will just bust out my Gameboy Color of my GBA or GBA SP. On top of this I already have remakes FR/LG & HGSS.
|
I would because I hate FRLG,and HGSS lost GSC levelling. However my lack of 3DS woulçd make it useless for me tho.But there are always hoep,so yea,I woiulod buy(If I also had moiney, wut's a whole 'nother story T.T)
|
I think I would actually, since I can't find any of my R/B/Y games, and my Gold doesn't work anymore.
|
Crystal, maybe. The others, probably not. I do prefer FR/LG to R/B, and I'd pass over G/S in favor of Crystal. But I think I would like to play Crystal as an alternative to HG/SS
Main reason is the lack of a female playable trainer in all the old games up until Crystal. |
Yellow yes. If I wanted to Replay Red or Blue I'd play FR or LG. If I wanted to play G/S/C I'd just play Soul Silver or Heart Gold. Yellow is the only one that wasn't remade so that be the one I'd want to play. Hopefully they'd make a Surfing Pikachu addition so we can play the Surfing Mini Game too.
|
Maybe, depends on when it comes out, and what other games i can get.
|
It sounds like a good idea but I wouldn't get it if its on the eShop, thats why I have ROM's and besides, I'm too busy enough to be playing the current Pokemon games. But I do agree with Pyrax, no point.
:t354:TG |
i will like to see yellow because is based of the anime and I got already FR and HG/SS.
|
I'd like Yellow and GSc but I don't have a 3DS so I guess it won't matter to much for me
|
To be honest...no, not really. Whilst the Pokemon gameplay has gone absolutely nowhere since its conception, the interface for the original games is so horrendously outdated that I think I'd probably go insane trying to play them again. Battles are faster and smoother these days, and you're not fighting a battle with your handheld just to get a Pokemon to do something anymore. But then, I am of the opinion that old, outdated games shouldn't be re-released with no changes added to them, just for the sake of nostalgia. It hasn't worked with Ocarina of Time on the 3DS, and I highly doubt it would work with the original Pokemon games.
|
No, they would no work in the eShop as a virtual console game. They would work well in the 3D classics series, seeing as games have a redesign when they are ported.
|
Gold/Silver/Crystal are a must, if you ask me.
Crystal is the only game that if they put it on the eShop I'd have to rush out and buy. My Crystal's battery is going out and it is my favorite Pokemon game ever. I'd love to have a copy of it that won't die. Having it on my 3DS would be the best way to have it, as well - with a lit screen! I really hope Nintendo does this. I don't see the point of the eShop if they won't put big name games like this on it. And just because I wouldn't personally purchase a game off of eShop doesn't mean that I'm going to stay "Screw you" to everybody else and say "No, it shouldn't be on there." Quote:
FR/LG only account for Red/Blue, yet HG/SS account for Gold/Silver and Crystal somehow? I know that HG/SS incorporated some of Crystal's features, but there are still differences, particularly in the female protagonist. Yellow will never get a "remake" because Nintendo doesn't seem to care to remake the third edition of each game. |
I have Red, plus FR/LG. Dont need that.
Got the G/S/C, plus HG. Thats enough Johto. However, I would be eternally grateful if they put in Pokemon Yellow. That is my all-time favorite game, and I recently lost it, so being able to replay it would bring tears to my nostalgic eyes :3 |
I would actually like to see Nintendo put the first and second gens on the apple app store... Think about it, Nintendo currently isnt making any money off of these games and if they put them on the appstore at a price of like $2 they would almost instantly be at the top of the Top25 paid apps. I don't think Nintendo would ever do this but i see it as a win/win situation for pokemon fans and Nintendo.
|
Oh yes defenitely! Especially if it also inludeded wi-fi, but ONLY for battling, and also wireless for that. I'd buy an 3DS for it.
|
I would buy it, but I can't imagine how they would make multiplayer possible, like getting friend codes and stuff...
|
I would be extremely happy if they were to make these games available for the e-shop.
|
It would be awesome if First Generation Pokemon has been re-localized so that we (outside of Japan) actually have 4 First Generation games (Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow) if it's going to be on a virtual console.
Sadly, it isn't going to happen. |
YES.... NO MORE DRY INTERNAL BATTERY.

Late September they may be releasing R/S/E/FR/LG. Unconfirmed ofcourse, but Nintendo is adding a massive amount of GBA games to the eShop for the 3DS as a customer appreciation deal. Very small chance that they may add them to it.
As for R/B/Y/G/S/C If they would have I think they would have done it by now knowing how big Pokemon is it would have boosted the sales a little more than what they have now. I hope they do as I loved Yellow and Crystal and really want to play those two again, but its hard to say. |
Heck yes I would,I never really got the chance,to fully enjoy yellow,I only played it for 20 minutes,so that would be so amazing, though I hope they don't add the current trading when have today, but just make it abit diffrent.

I hope Nintendo does, but I doubt they will. They tend to assume that all Pokemon fans only play the latest games, and they probably expect everyone to have forgotten all about Kanto, and to only remember Johto because of the recent release of HeartGold and SoulSilver. It's all about the "latest and greatest." Have you ever wondered why we don't have Stadium 1 and 2 on the Wii Virtual Console?
|
i would love to have them on the eshop. i would buy them all instantly. i love those games but i always have to go find my gameboy if i want to play them. plus on the 2nd gen the battery is dead so i get that annoying message all the time
|
It would be a great idea, plus it would be VERY popular & bring in alot of cash.
|
Actually, I don't see why they couldn't put in R/S/E now, seeing as GBA games have now been confirmed, I think it would be a good idea if they could release them to try to promote the future remakes. (that is if there are going to be some)

Yellow was an game playing on the anime's massive popularity back at that time. I don't think too many people would have been happy if they had made FR/LG resemble Yellow/the anime. |
I'm sorry, but a release on the eShop will never happen. eShop games can't communicate with one-another, and the pinnacle of the main series of Pokemon games is the connectivity features. Pokemon simply wouldn't be Satoshi Tariji's vision of they were to nix Pokemon trading. Also, introducing the old games in their old format again would financially hurt Gamefreak. Strategically, having poor technology during the time of manufacturing Generation I, II, and to a lesser extent, III games, is really working out in Gamefreak's favor. Not only are those games likely to break (or the systems they play on- who wasn't bummed when the Nintendo DS was no longer backwards compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color Games, and infuriated that the Nintendo DSi didn't even have a Game Boy Advanced slot?), but the few games that still do work (and the rare few that are still in mint condition) will exponentially raise in value. Sure, Pokemon trainers from the 90's will miss the 16-bit graphics, crudely-designed Pokemon sprites, and eerie Lavender Town 16-bit music, but newer usually means better.
And I have to say, Gamefreak is getting a lot better at revamping remakes. Compare FireRed and LeafGreen to HeartGold and SoulSilver. When I was younger, I had no reason to buy FireRed. But, upon the release of HeartGold, it was a must-have now that they included new Pokemon, new areas, and especially the long sought-after feature of having your Pokemon follow you around in the overworld. |
I emulate the 1st through 3rd generations perfectly on my PSP, so I don't need to buy them if they were released. But it would still be good for people without PSPs. Releasing the 1st and 2nd generations would show they care, so it'd be nice.
I heard they will also (or already have) make old games 3Dified. So I think they can make small edits. It'd be a stretch, but I can imagine they will emulate the link cable with wireless communication. Only time will tell. |

And yeah, Nintendo's taking a lot of liberties with their 3D Classics line. It's been announced that the NES games that are coming in the Ambassador's program will have multiplayer. I've heard they aren't even a part of the 3D Classics line? I don't see why Nintendo couldn't work something out for the Pokemon games. Pokemon games have always been a must-have for every Nintendo portable. It would just seem flat out odd if they weren't included. For me, if I hadn't gotten Pokemon Red, I seriously doubt I would have ever taken portable consoles seriously. Pokemon games pretty much made portable gaming for me. So them not being added on there would just flat out be wrong. If they can do this connectivity for NES games on the 3DS, than they can do it for Pokemon. |

...And on the topic of Yellow...I suddenly fear the 3rd copy to Gen 5 is gunna be another Anime spoof. Sorry off topic ending. |
Yes, definitely. I want to be able to play my old favorites! I just hope they release them exactly as they were. They'll probably remove Missingno. and other glitches, but I can dream.

Of course I'd like to see older Pokémon games on eShop! Why not?
@emberjed: HG/SS included Kanto too, so the region isn't forgotten. And I'm pretty sure that they know the older Pokémon games still sell enough. My cousin who haven't ever played Pokémon (as he only watched anime and got bored) would like to try Pokémon games because many of people like them but he doesn't want to start with newer games as they have too many Pokémon, he only remembers half(?) of the original, so he's now waiting for R/B/Y to be released in eShop. And then, the Stadium games. I think they aren't in VC because you can't connect GB/C games to them to have your own team, you would have to use rented Pokémon. When the older Pokémon games come, I hope that they'll release Stadiums on VC and make a way to trade between them but that is the thing that will never come true. |

The main issue would be can the Pokemon Games communicate? It most likely won't be too hard to add a wifi code to the old ones similar to Fire Red/Leaf Green's wireless code so that you can still trade. |

And GB and GBC were 8-bit handhelds, SNES is 16-bit console. |
Quote:
I can't believe there are people around saying that it absolutely won't happen because eShop games can not have multiplayer. I honestly don't think any of us would have expected those NES games to be able to link with each other. The same people would have said "That will never happen". If they can do it with those NES games, and that Zelda Four Swords game they can definitely do it with Pokemon games. Knowing how popular they are, there's no saying they wouldn't think about going through that kind of effort to get them released. To me, the eShop will be very incomplete if it doesn't have the Pokemon main games on them. As I said above, handheld gaming would have never been taken seriously by me if I hadn't got Pokemon Red. |
I think the lack of trading would disappoint some people. Such as not being able to get Golem or Alakazam.
|
F*CK YES! They should indeed do this. They would be fools if they didn't, and would be missing out on absolutely TONS of cash. Do it nintendo, do it!
