Pokemon Fire Red: The Hard Version! Release

1 Attachment(s)

Beta 6
Introduction http://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/506717-darkrayquaza/717/56/pokeball_icon.gif

Hey guys! I'd like to introduce another (or improved) version of Pokémon Fire Red. This is kind of a mix between a 386 and a difficulty game.
The minor features and changes implamented do not really change the characteriscits of the orignal game but do however enhance the difficulty and the enjoyment of the game!

I have only been working on this for several days so the only assortments I have worked on so far are the battles this includes trainers, rivals, gyms, Elite Four ect.
I promise you this game to be very challenging but fun!

If this game gets positive feedback and becomes admired by users then I will go forth to adding new variables such as scripts, events and so on. For now however let's just call this "The Pilot" I have spent quite alot of my time dedicated to this hack and plan to carry on so please be respectable with feedback, thank-you.

Features http://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/506717-darkrayquaza/717/56/pokeball_icon.gif
  • A whole new Rival!
  • Gym Leaders have new & stronger teams!
  • Every Gym Leader now has 6 Pokémon (aside Brock & Misty)
  • Sound replacements (Example; Oaks Lab)
  • Rivals team had alertations
  • All trainers edited some the same but higher levels
  • All rematches with any trainer has also been edited to suit their location in-game
  • Elite Four members have much stronger teams and even stronger teams second time round (L90+)
  • Gym Leader Rematches! ~ After completeing the Elite Four you will notice the Gym Leaders dotted around Islands Four, Five Six & Seven.. can you find them all!?
  • All 386 Pokémon obtainable
  • New trainers implamented to spice things up
  • Whole game difficulty intensified
Mediahttp://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/506717-darkrayquaza/717/56/pokeball_icon.gif

First beta now released, test it & feedback, thanks :]

KingCyndaquil July 16th, 2011 9:40 AM

i played it, it satifyed the need to make this game harder, as i beat firered in a week, ill keep an eye on it!

blue July 16th, 2011 4:18 PM

Hey thanks, it becomes increasingly harder!

pokkeball July 17th, 2011 1:36 AM

Hard pokemons? That's what I'm looking for! Will definitely try it! ;)

pantherwarrior July 17th, 2011 3:57 AM

Which Emulator would you recommend?

blue July 17th, 2011 5:22 AM

Visual Boy Advance (VBA) just Google it.

TheDemetrious1 July 17th, 2011 10:17 AM

Hey I thought game is pretty good. Got a couple things though.
1.Change the girl that you battle before you enter in the forest; oddish to at least a higher then the pokemon in the nearest grass.
2.Change Pichu to evolve to pikachu at any level between 10-30.
3.Change what the proffesor that upgrades your pokedex make him update it and leave somewhere. -not give you dream eater-
4.I like the fact that you can catch grass starters in the forest but it defeats the purpose of getting a Bulbasaur. lol.
5.I liked the game and I think you should continue it.

blue July 17th, 2011 11:49 AM

Thanks for the feedback & I'll take it on board.

About the Oddish I changed that right after I made the release (now Level 8) which I think is suitable and about the professor, I was debating whether I should just leave him because well I'm not too strong on scripting but I don't really see a problem with teaching Dream Eater but if people wish for me to change I will.
Regarding the Pichu & Pikachu evolution, with the next release I'm going to change it so that ALL Pokémon that are evolved via trade will be evolved by a certain level and I will change SOME happiness evolutions and leave some in because I know people like using happiness to evolve Pokémon.
Finally, the starters, yeah I only wanted to put them in an early stage as a test because the beta does end at Pewter so I'm kinda limited to areas where to place them but I will relocate them to a later point in the game, like I said this was only a pilot so I was expecting some flaws with the game, I just wanted to see how it went down but again, thanks, I do intend to continue it.

pantherwarrior July 17th, 2011 12:24 PM

My VBA won't play the game, it keeps coming up with the message "Unsupported file type" I tried patching it to a clean Fire Red ROM but the VBA will just play the Fire Red game and not the hack. Am I doing anything wrong?

jvpski3 July 17th, 2011 12:51 PM

Can you tell me where you got the de-capitalization patch? Thanks. Also, this game is not really hard. Can you update it?

blue July 17th, 2011 1:10 PM

The levels of Gym Leaders increase majorly but I have been thinking of increasing Brocks levels.

Sorry, it was months ago that I downloaded it and I'm unable to locate it.

Yea it wasn't too hard seeing there's a spam method with using all your money then battling the gym leader while losing but gaining exp. Got my Treeko, Charmander, and Pichu all the way to 26 doing that.

blue July 17th, 2011 2:22 PM

Ah right, well thanks for the feedback, I will increase Brocks levels for the next release, and possibly the other Gym Leaders but I dont think they need it because Misty reaches Level 30 and Level 30 for the second Gym is quite intense but yeah.

TheDemetrious1 July 17th, 2011 3:21 PM

Al right sweet! Estimated time for next release? -curious-

blue July 17th, 2011 3:48 PM

Most probally tomorrow, or the day after, I've already changed everything to Cerulean, including trainers, gyms & Wild Pokemon.

TheDemetrious1 July 17th, 2011 4:30 PM

Nice! If you need help with beta testing I'm here!

blue July 17th, 2011 4:33 PM

That's actually a good idea, the thought of beta testers some reason didn't occur to me, I'm testing it now but if you wanna try it out I can send you a link now?

Pichu_fan July 17th, 2011 4:37 PM

This Hack looks very good,I wonder how hard this would be to Nuzlocke....

Oh, and can I please be a Beta Tester too, if you need them?

Sure, no problem, I'll PM you when you can.

Pichu_fan July 17th, 2011 4:51 PM

I'm free Now,really. Nothing Important for me these days.

EDIT:
I'm Playing the beta you gave me, and I see that Route 22 is completely Unedited. I went to battle my Rival (Demet, Dur)and His team was how it was before. and the grass still has what it had there.

WHAT DID I FIND ON Mt.MOON?

blue July 17th, 2011 6:25 PM

I have PM'ed you the link to the Beta, thank-you.

bcrobert July 17th, 2011 10:03 PM

I'm a little concerned about the types for the rival's team. The speed team is heavily flying/electric based and the defensive team is heavily steel based. I don't mean to nitpick, but I think this makes the difficulty of the rival battles uneven. A team centered around Blastoise will be close to annihilated (which is good) whereas a team centered around Charizard might have too much of an advantage.

Of course I haven't taken a good luck at the move sets, so if you engineered those with this kind of thing in mind then forget I said anything.

Liquid Twilight July 18th, 2011 1:42 AM

I played this and I fully love this. I am in full support of this hack.

I was concerned that somebody would pick up on this and thanks for doing that, it was kind of a last minute thing and I am aware that his speed team is nowhere near as strong as his offensive team, that is something that I also need to work on.

Dear Suicune,
On my way to cerulean city,I saw the black belt,so i healed my pokemon.Next thing I know, I'm controlling red,and he started where the Black belt was.I could only move in a 2x2 square, and i could not go back to Leaf, no matter what i do.
http://i.imgur.com/1LWS5.jpg

Oh,and the Green Hair Girl in the gym will not battle me. Did you put the script in?

I know, I've removed this Blackbelt, he was glitched and is no longer there anymore, apologies, again there were some errors in the beta I gave you again, I'll try fix these immediately, thanks!

Pichu_fan July 18th, 2011 5:07 AM

Ok,thanks.
Don't forget that you left Route 22 Unedited(in my beta)
Oh, and the 3rd Rival battle was too easy, Please try to buff it up.

I've changed Rivals team completely now, but on the 3rd encounter his Pokémon are quite weak but Level 22-25, and the only reason they are weak is because they are pre-evolutions of strong Pokémon with the likes of Dragonite and I can't really have him having a Dragonair/Dragonite at such an early point, they will be much increased by the 4th however.
Route 22 has been edited since.

Lugiaz Soul July 18th, 2011 11:06 AM

Awesome! I was thinking about doing something like this myself but it looks like you have spared me a lot of work and I am free to just play :) I wish you all the best luck on completing this little extension.

Mirari July 18th, 2011 5:10 PM

I was looking for a hack like this *--* I still haven't played any Beta yet but I'm going to soon ^^

Are you changing the movesets? I was playing a hacked today and a Weezing keep using Destiny Bond, and when the PP ran out it used Memento... It must be hard to change the way the CPU acts so make sure you give many offensive moves to their pokes. Just a suggestion x)

blue July 18th, 2011 5:23 PM

Say thanks! Yeah, don't worry the AI is smart enough for a reasonable battle, it wont be Destiny Bond after Destiny Bond.

Liquid Twilight July 19th, 2011 3:43 AM

I was playing this again and I'm surprised how much the national dex pokemon and harder teams can really change the game. I am really looking foreward to the next beta. I would offer to be a beta tester but I think I would play the game more for enjoymeny rather than seek out bugs / help.

I know I posted before about how much I liked it and I don't want it to seem like I'm brown-nosing but I really enjoy this hack and can't wait for the next beta.

Pichu_fan July 19th, 2011 7:40 AM

I forgot to save after getting the SST,so I had to start back at Mt.moon :(.

BTW,some trainers you put into the game don't battle you and when you talk to them, they say something they would say when they lose (Like this one youngster on Route 25 who says "I'll get you next time"or something)

I also wish Staryu came early :( (I'm not requesting that.)

Charizard203 July 22nd, 2011 4:19 PM

I like how you increased the difficulty, but I'd have loved it if he kept his Starter with him (if he had one).

Seki July 23rd, 2011 2:59 AM

Looks intresting, might play it when I have the time to do it. I normally don't play hacks, but this looks intresting.

cbd98 July 23rd, 2011 9:08 AM

This looks wicked fun! If you ever need any help with anything I'd love to help. Also I noticed there's a custom trainer section. Are you suggesting that we might be able to put our teams into this wonderful game in the near future? *faints*

EDIT: Oh, I didn't see the bottom........... I'M GOING TO PM YOU MY TEAM RIGHT NOW!

blue July 23rd, 2011 3:32 PM

Having some problems with the trainers regarding levels so the next beta may be pushed back slightly, I basically need to redo some of the trainers.
Won't take too long, hopefully!

blue July 27th, 2011 3:38 PM

Re-released the Beta, it's the same length but the levels have been changed. The reason for this is people who played the previous beta ended up being overleveled by about 10, in the mid 20's and it was kinda messed up. However I have fixed this so it may seem easy at first but don't be put off, you'll notice it becoming increasingly harder!

blue August 2nd, 2011 3:08 PM

The new beta is out, check the OP!

The Grubby Pup August 3rd, 2011 2:58 PM

It looks good. Haven't tried it yet, but the new addition of trainers and added scripts will definitely put a new feel toward the game.

blue August 3rd, 2011 3:11 PM

Thank-you, I plan to add more as I progress.

The Grubby Pup August 3rd, 2011 3:58 PM

Alright, cool! But seriously, your game does interest me. Once you make a lot of progress, I'll promise to give it a try.

Good luck on your game.

yaya0 August 5th, 2011 5:22 PM

I could be a beta tester; I've done it for hacks in the past.

DualGaming August 8th, 2011 6:48 AM

Seems sweet. Will check it out

iwelshykid August 8th, 2011 6:10 PM

Just killed Surge

Brock and Misty only had four

cbd98 August 11th, 2011 6:20 AM

Oh. My. GOD!!! My name's in the thread!! Thank you so much!! I would've played the beta earlier, but I was on a road trip. I'll go through everything and make the best team ever(probably modeling it of my ingame trainer's team :P).

EDIT: Could you change the trainer name on my guy to William? It sounds much more gentleman-like.

EDIT EDIT: The optional battle with rival on route 23 is unchanged. Just so you know.

Dodq2 August 16th, 2011 2:57 PM

Could I have a trainer? (Male)

Name & Class: Cool Trainer Caden
Location: Victory Road
Team:
Electabuzz
Gengar
Alakazam
Blastoise
Pidgeot
Sceptile

Super Red August 16th, 2011 5:27 PM

I like it. Great job. I have full support for this hack. I'll be looking forward for more beta versions and most importantly the final version!

Also, I have an idea for a trainer. I will PM you the details.

VelocityQ August 21st, 2011 9:41 AM

Yeah, I would like to know how to get a custom trainer on there as well. Do we have to finish the current beta? Or something like that? Just curious.
And if I do manage to get a character in here is what I like it to be:

Cool Trainer Quinn
Location: Nugget Bridge
Pokemon: Seadra Level 23, Swellow Level 22, Raichu Level 23

and....(If I'm allowed to do a rematch thingy)

Cool Trainer Quinn
Location: Nugget Bridge
Pokemon: Kingdra Level 44, Swellow Level 44, Raichu Level 44

and I'll download it now

Sorry. It thought I posted it twice for some reason. and the trainer would be [Insert Male Symbol Here] Male

Tranitar August 21st, 2011 10:54 AM

Im really liking this. It's a challenge.

And you mean ♂? Alt + 11

Super Red August 22nd, 2011 12:42 PM

Is it possible for my Custom Trainer to be edited? If it is, can you switch Zangoose with Blastoise and Typhlosion with Sceptile? My Trainer is Pokemon Trainer Collin and he should be on Victory Road or Route 11, depending on where you chose to put him.

Truality August 23rd, 2011 4:37 AM

As I told you once before, this is probably the best 'FR enchancement' type of hack in this Showcase. I hope you finish it and when you do, then I'll play it. (yeah, I have faith that you WILL finish this)

I have some jotted downs some ideas that could add to the story/gameplay of FR from when I was experimenting with a 386 spin-off, so let me know if you'd like me to send you them through a PM.

Best of luck with this one.

Yeah, that's fine just PM me the details so that when Im inputting the trainers I can just go over to my PMS and get the details, thanks and it will most probally be Victory Road.

Thanks, that really does mean alot! and you're faith is correct because I do plan to finish this, I'm already upto the 4th Gym so I'm nearly half way and it's becoming popular so I do plan to carry on. Also yes please do, I'm always open to new ideas into making the game better, thank-you!

NaistoNub September 3rd, 2011 6:36 PM

This looks very cool. I'm defiantly checking this out!

rocky505 September 4th, 2011 10:23 AM

Why does Eevee evolve into Umbreon at 55 but it evolves into espeon using the sun stone. I would rather it evolve with the moon stone for Umbreon.

blue September 4th, 2011 11:01 AM

So it's different, having Umbreon evolve via a Moon Stone is easy. The majority of people choose Umbreon over Espeon and level 55 is a decent level for a good Pokémon, besides you obtain the Sun Stone much later in the game rather than the Moon.

I'm resuming work on the hack, hopefully I should be releasing the next Beta sometime next week which will go upto the 5th/6th Gym. I haven't worked on it for quite some time.. about a month so I'll have to get caught up and I will start to insert the custom trainers just make sure you have PM'ed me the details, thanks!

Dark Bolt September 17th, 2011 12:17 PM

wheres the link? I wanna play this game it sounds cool.

blue September 18th, 2011 4:29 AM

The link or attatchment is at the bottom of the first post, click the attatchment to download it.

cbd98 September 20th, 2011 8:37 AM

I have a question, can we make multiple trainers? Because that would be awesome :3

blue September 23rd, 2011 3:22 AM

Right so I've got to take my Comptuer in for repair for a day or two so I may have a set back giving that my data is erased however I hopefully will be able to pick up where the beta ends so it will be a little while longer for the next beta, apologies for the delays!

You need to patch the .ips to a .gba file by using something like Lunar IPS

AquaticWartortle October 5th, 2011 11:39 AM

It looks interesting! I might try it! Could I also make a custom trainer in the game? (It's okay if you say no! ;))

This looks brilliant, if I have the time I'll give this a go, I guess the wild starters is actually good, you'll need their stats and power to overcome this gam I can imagine.

Looks brilliant, keep it up.

After a long hiatus I've picked up where I left off, my motivation went out the window for this since the whole project went corrupt but I've been slowly fixing things getting it back to the way it was. I have spent most of today editing ALL the Pokémon in the areas of Kanto & Sevii Islands and all 386 are catchable (some through evolution) except from Starters & Legendaries which I plan to implement into an event of some sort. A new and updated release will be out soon so keep a look out!

Arma December 6th, 2011 4:36 PM

Heya, I've played through the Beta and I loved it! Too bad about you data, but it's really nice too see you aren't giving up.

One thing bothers me though... aren't some of the stat changes a bit over the top? I mean, It's okay to power up some underpowered Pokemon. But you can get perfectly balanced stats with a total between 480 ~ 500.

Vnalder December 7th, 2011 8:23 PM

If you need more custom trainers...

Name & Class: Expert Foxer
Location: One of the islands on Route 21
Team:
Kingdra
Venomoth
Aggron
Dunsparce (but with an absurd moveset)

EDIT: /fail need 15 posts to be able to post images
best box art ever :P

SenatorLugia December 8th, 2011 10:40 PM

Why are there ice types in Rock Tunnel? I'd recommend Rhyhorn, Teddiursa, Phanpy, Cubone (probably catchable in the ghost tower?), Khangaskhan, Dunsparce, and maybe even Ditto.

EDIT: Whismer would be good if you haven't already put it in there.

Tryploshion December 16th, 2011 3:59 PM

Hey this looks good pls finish it i like how u modify it exelent hack but continue adding pokemon good work and goodluck in this hack

Miazhu December 20th, 2011 7:44 PM

Check the OP! I have uploaded the latest Beta (Release 0.74) This goes all the way upto Two Island so that means you will be able to battle 7 gyms upto Blaine! ~ You'll notice a few changes that all the Pokemon have been edited to new locations, Gym Leaders teams intensfied and most importantly a new rival!

I was playing beta 0.74 and found that route 9 is blocked, screenshot (I was using walk through wall to show it)

blue December 23rd, 2011 11:38 AM

I noticed that as I was editing yesterday, since then I've released a later version of 0.74 so just download that, patch it on your ROM and continue it should be fixed.

Truality December 23rd, 2011 11:59 AM

Good job so far, Joe!

To answer what someone else said above, I believe since this is a 386 hack, the ice-type pokemon are correctly placed in rock tunnel, it's a great place to have some of them since they can't be practically out in the open-and only two ice caves are there in total.

Good luck finishing this one as well!

blue December 24th, 2011 2:51 PM

Thanks! that's true there are a limited amount of Ice Caves and more Ice types that can fit. I should be able to finish this quicker now as I've completed Expert Emerald asike some slight tweaks now and then.

c1234321 December 27th, 2011 8:43 AM

not sure if this was mentioned yet but both my taillow and swablu didnt evolve until three levels after when they were supposed to and im stuck in lavender town and i cant go down cuz the snorlax and i cant go left cuz its blocked off for some reason

blue December 28th, 2011 9:00 AM

The stats of the evolutions have been raised therefore it's more of a challenge to evolve them which is more effort. Regarding the Lavender blockage problem I have mistakenly untouched the movement positions but I've fixed that and re-uploaded the patch so it should be fine now.

destinydownloads January 3rd, 2012 3:51 AM

How do I get rid of the guy that is standing in front of the lavender tower?

blue January 3rd, 2012 8:58 AM

That was intentional for a script later on however I decided to remove it to speed things up, just download the new beta and patch it and he should be removed.

xTheAndyx January 3rd, 2012 9:55 PM

great game!! i love it haha. something i noticed: when you walk into the game corner in celadon city, you spawn in the middle of the room instead of in the door way.

also... where do you find stantler??? ;( i cant find him anywhere!
anyways, awesome hack. i cant wait until the next beta comes out!

destinydownloads January 7th, 2012 2:53 PM

This may be a lot of hard work but I think yo should make a document where you have a list of all the pokemon and where they could be found. Because I want to do a Let's Play of this game and I want to see different team options.

I'm actually currently in the middle of creating a list of locations for each Pokémon, should be released within the next beta or two, hopefully!

bwburke94 January 7th, 2012 7:54 PM

I'll be playing this after my Expert Emerald run is complete. Unfortunately, said run is stalled at the moment due to grinding issues.

Pearlone January 9th, 2012 6:54 PM

I'm playing this, just finished 6th Badge, and I'm really liking it.
If you don't mind i'd like to add some more trainers to the game, mess around with it.
Also there are quite a few unedited grunts especially in Silph Tower
One Fisherman south of Lavender Town is unedited his name was Hank or something, also Scientist Ed (his name is the only one I remember.)

Jayster23 January 9th, 2012 10:47 PM

Not sure if this has been asked but what level does Graveler evolve?
The document says 45 which i've passed and the thread says level 50 which i've passed.

Could anyone help me out here?

EDIT: Don't worry, it evolved level 51 :P

Still this is a great and fun game. It's quite challenging.

blue January 10th, 2012 5:35 AM

No major changes on the latest release aside some unedited trainers who are now edited, mostly Rocket Grunts at Silph Co. which I had a feeling would have some unedited around that area. I'm positive that at least 95% of all trainers up to and including Two Island have been completely edited!

Thank you for letting me know and noting the names, I've fixed that!

Also, I've fixed and swapped some levels for evolution round and corrected the errors regarding evolutions on the OP and the documentation, all levels are now correct.

lukasz_pro January 10th, 2012 1:40 PM

great one , i hope it will be finished soon :D
overall progress ? 80% ? :P

blue January 10th, 2012 2:10 PM

Well it's upto Island Two so the main things that need to be done are: 8th Gym, Elite Four, Victory Road, Four-Seven Islands, Elite Four Rematches & Gym Rematches so I'd say around 70-80% yeah!

Pearlone January 10th, 2012 2:24 PM

Actually I have played Fire Red where I set up a National Dex in the beginning what will happen is that when you get to the Elite Four the door will be blocked, you will have to do the Lorelei/Team Rocket Warehouse story first before you face Elite Four.

superdean January 10th, 2012 3:02 PM

this is exactly the kind of rom I'm looking for!

quick question:
If I were to start playing now, and then you release a new beta, can I patch the newer beta right over the old rom without losing my save?

blue January 10th, 2012 4:45 PM

Yeah, if a later patch is released whilst your playing you can just patch over it without any errors.

Jayster23 January 10th, 2012 6:25 PM

The two rocket grunts standing in the way at Two Island.
Is that the end of the beta or is there something to still do?
