The originals or the remakes?
OK,i just wanna ask
Do you preffer the original RBY/GSC over their remakes,FRLG/HGSS and why? |
I prefer the original remakes (RBY/GCS), mainly because that's the generation I grew up with and it has epic sprites and music.
i like RBY better than FR/LG. just because those are the first pokemon games i ever played. and i like hg/ss better than GSC. i dont know why i just love the hgss games
I prefer the originals because of Nostalgia, and the originality of it all, but if I played them both at the same time, I would prefer the remakes easily.
Originals for nostalgia, but the remakes have their perks too. Still I will always play the originals if given the choice.
Originals, all the way. But, I can play the remakes for longer.
I prefer the originals for G/S/C since well It was just plain better, the music, the feel. But I prefer FR/LG over R/B/G because It had graphic updates and new content like the sevii islands implemented, I also really liked the Vs Seeker.
I like Crystal about the same as I liked HG/SS. But I definitely like FR/LG more than R/B/Y. As much as I liked the HG/SS updates, there's just something refreshing about going back to Crystal... even if Mareep's not in it...
But as far as R/B/Y, the only gameplay element I prefer over the remakes is the fact that Slash would go critical practically every time when Persian used it. Otherwise FR/LG wins, mainly because they gave us the best protagonist in a Pokemon game ever as the form of the female trainer. But if you've known me for any length of time on PC, you'd have known I was gonna say that Leaf's awesome :) Of course, there's the fact that the internal battery's dead on all of my first and second gen games that keeps me from playing them at all... |
Remake and Original respectively
RBY were nice, but FRLG is better, guess it's because it was fixed up,shame mons from other generations can't evolve untill you have NDEX,but beats only Gen. GSC,are better than HGSS because the later was too complicated in my opinion. |
As a classic gamer, I prefer the originals hands down. Back then we didn't have abilities, natures, or even weird berry names (that I still can't memorize). I prefer the simplicity, and the nostalgia the classic games have to offer, but I wouldn't mind trying out the remakes just to see how things have changed, as well as staying on top of Pokemon today.
ORIGINALS. All the way.
The remakes of Gold and Silver (i.e., HeartGold, SoulSilver) were fantastic games, don't get me wrong here. But the problem is, they didn't capture the same magic, the beauty of the originals. The original Silver had terribad graphics, but I've grown to love them. 3D doesn't do it for me. The 8-bit soundtrack -- oh my God! It was the best soundtrack ever released for any game of any system. The Gen IV remakes were good, too, but they were just that -- remakes. tl;dr -- new games, great. old games, magic. |
The originals are always best! :3
I prefer originals. I play them all today though, hell just for kicks I decided to begin a new game for Yellow the other day just to remember how I loved the game back when there were no stinkin' remakes. I only play the remakes because they're updated and I like to check out the remixed music, other than that, G/R/B/Y/G/S/C ftw!
Even if I started by playing yellow I STILL prefer updated games so yeah FR/LG all the way, I never got to play HG/SS but I always like an updated look at an old game, abilities and all that never got in my way and as for berries I admit sadly that it took me a minute or two to figure out what psncureberry and prlyzcureberry meant LOL. Besides the new names have been around long enough for me to name off the ones that heal status effects plus the fact that they're all pointless if you have lum berries anyways.
As much as I love nostalgia I love a crisp new feel too Pokemon is pokemon and as long as my Typhlosion can learn Thunderpunch via TM in a G/S remake I'm just fine. |
I liked the originals more when they were new more than i liked the remakes when they were new because of the fact that the originals were so far ahead of their time when they came out, no other game could come close to them.
I like the originals better, for nostalgia mostly.
Remakes, just because they have the Hoenn pokemon in them and the new islands are a good addition. However I can't deny that the old games do hold a certain charm! Although the music in the old ones is unbeatable!
I prefer the originals, it's the same reason as everyone said; nostalgia.
Although, I do love the remakes, well, only HG/SS; FR/LG didn't sit that well with me. plus the originals run super fast on emulators. C: |
Remakes have good plot... But some originals start the new era, such as D/P/Pt, and B/W/G. (I think the sequel/prequel is Gray to Black and White.)
Originals. You can't replicate the feeling when you first played them, the excitement in battling! The plot twists! Defeating team rocket! Catching your first legendary bird! Charmander evolving!
The remakes are just like; meh, I defeated team rocket... again... in better graphics. |
For First Generation, I would say the originals. But if it has to be the version of my own, then remakes because I didn't like the way Pokemon Red and Green was localized, making Blue the missing link despite its engine being used. Who thought it's a good idea to localize the first two versions using the engine of the third version?
For Second Generation, whether it's the original region or the region of my own, I have to go for Remakes because everything was done right (For example, you can explore Kanto to its full potential,) you're allowed to have Pokemon that aren't in Johto and Kanto without having to get a National Pokedex (unlike in Fire Red and Leaf Green where you can only have First Gen Pokemon until you get National Pokedex,) The feature is nice to keep you in touch. |
For first gen definitely originals. Even I have too much nostalgia, and I hate nostalgia. Plus I couldn't stand the "previously on your journey..." stuff every single time I started the game up.
It's a toss-up between the remakes and the originals in second gen though. In the end, I'd have to say the originals, because I loved Crystal but I couldn't even finish my HG. |
The originals are good for the nostalgia but I prefer the remakes overall.
I prefer the remakes for one reason. I can keep my pokemon. Being able to migrate them up the generations makes it feel more real to me. Whereas having to keep R/B/Y and G/S/C in just those two gens make me uncomfortable with the whole internal battery dieing thing.
In terms of RBYG, I think FR/LG is better(but not "much better").
When it comes to GSC, I like HGSS but Crystal is still awesome! But overall. I prefer the remakes over the originals mainly because I haven't had a chance to play and finish them. The remakes also presented new features, revamped tiles, new scripts and such. |
Remakes, I loved the old games but its really nice to see how they've been modernized (I wish I could repeat last year over and over, I loved how everything was gen II orientated in the Pokemon world again) and in HG/SS they put in so much more brilliant stuff to improve on the classics (the redesigns of the gyms was a personal favourite)
The originals, easy. Mainly because of the glitches. :P
This isn't really a topic for me to answer since I never played the remakes, but I prefer the originals for their nostalgic value and simplicity.
Even though I grew up playing the originals, and loved them so very much, I prefer the remakes. They're more fresh, refined, and just better overall.
I will always say the originals. Their was just something special about them. And to be honest, if you take the graphics out of the whole arguement, are the remakes truley better? Graphics are the only thing thats truley better about the remakes.
The originals are better in my opinion because I think the graphics and the 8-bit sounds are what makes the Pokemon games. It just seems to me that that's how the games were meant to be and that's how they should be. I feels more right to play them.
i prefer the remakes of 2nd gen. (just miss not having the interactive sprites)
but the originals of 1st gen are always gonna be the best for me. especially my beloved blue version. |
Remakes are the best IMO, the game play, graphics, speed, mechanics, pokemon... Everything is just better. Although the old ones will always carry a certain charm about them to say the least...
I honestly prefer the remakes since they're more graphically appealing and have more interesting features.
I would have to say the originals because that's what I grew up playing, I did however enjoy the remakes too because it was almost like going back to when I was 5, playing the originals.
Obviously the remakes are better for me because well they improved in a lot of things such as taking Glitches out of the games, there are more Pokemon in these games, more side quest and last but no least the graphics are way better. I am not one of those people that are stuck in the past when it comes to Pokemon.
:t354:TG |
Definitely the originals. They're so much easier to play (but its probably because I can run them at 5000% with the speed button on my emulator). I still don't think I've beaten HG/SS yet, and only beaten FRLG two or three times. Plus, I grew up with them, and I just know them better. There are slight differences that I just know the original way better.
R/B - because it seems better, more orginal and simple. But I'll play FR/LG just for any new parts
G/S - Same reason as above. |
I definitely prefer G/S/C hands down.
HG/SS is really awesome, especially with the PokeWalker, but I just can't pass up G/S/C, especially Crystal. They have been my favorite Pokemon games since I began playing them, and that will never change. |
Though the originals are great, I prefer the remakes like FR/LG, and HG/SS(though I do really like crystal a lot). I like how they expanded on the regions and made it more colorful and the towns almost like your actually walking in them. When I play them, I reminds me of the old games, but with a splash of color and better graphics for more fun!!

As for comparing GSC to HGSS, I have to go with HGSS. Everything about this remake was so entertaining. They brought in many features and I know it has caught a lot of people's attention in interests. This remake was definitely not a disappointment in anyway. To me, at least. So I guess I would have to go with the remakes on this one. Remakes are meant to improve anyway. :P |
While the originals were my childhood so they'll always have a special place in my heart, I absolutely love the remakes! Seriously, I much prefer SoulSilver to Gold, same goes for FireRed and Blue. Nicer sprites, nicer colours, brilliant new features... yeah.
I go with the originals way over the remakes. When playing the remakes, I often find myself thinking, "wait.. that's not supposed to happen!" Don't get me wrong, remakes are great! I just think the originals are so great in the first place!
For 1st generation, I prefer the remakes. Some of the sprites from Red version used to give me nightmares as a little kid.
I'm not sure about 2nd gen, though. They're both really awesome games. |
Quote:
Also, Wigglytuff's sprite was just plain ridiculous. |
Yeah, that Golbat sprite was the worst. That thing just looked so stretched and that tongue was really weird.
Yeah, even to this day, those sprites just make me cringe. |
I think I prefer the remakes of both 1st gen. and 2nd gen. over the originals, simply because of graphics, soundtrack, and the new playable female trainers (although as far as Crystal goes, I do prefer Krys over Lyra). Don't get me wrong though, the originals will always have that nostalgia factor.
The originals have a better feel. However, I do appreciate the remakes. They're still quite fun.
The remakes, they're new and fresh which I like and harness better and advanced features.
Remake, since it's cooler and has more Pokemon. And it's easier to hack :D

I prefer the originals over the remake
I love the originals and the remakes but I totally prefer the originals more. I think a lot of people can relate to me when I say I love that really weird feeling you used to get when you'd play pokemon as a kid. Plus, the sprites and music are more enjoyable for me in the original gold and silver.

I can't really pick between the originals and the remakes.
The originals provide me with nostalgia and fond memories, whereas the remakes were nice improvements on them. :\ |
I can't really tell, both were amazing on their own.
Remakes are better made, that's clear, but regardless I prefer originals. That's them that made me loving Pokémon, not the remakes.
I liked both, RBY/GS were awesome games I grew up on. FRLG/SSHG were awesome games I can relive my experience from the originals. I would play the remakes over the old however just because I'm used to the newer games. The old games are outdated however I wont ever pass up the day to play them! I own almost all of them too.
RBY: I prefer the originals.
GSC: I prefer the remakes. |
I prefer the remakes because although the originals were what got me into Pokemon, with the remakes you can play the same game with more features, Pokemon, and moves and your not limited to the EXACT same adventure.
The remakes, I know I prefer HGSS to GSC and I think FRLG to RBGY.
I like both HG/SS and G/S/C equally much but I definitely prefer R/B/Y to Fr/Lg. Fr/Lg just didn't seem to offer much as a remake, I get pretty annoyed that I can't evolve my Golbat until I get the national dex, it was okay in R/B/Y since Crobat wasn't around but Fr/Lg was just stupid the way they wouldn't implement new features to a remake. Also they make you go on like the longest side quest ever just to enable you to trade Pokemon with R/S/E, I just don't see the game being better since R/B/Y let you trade with G/S/C as soon as you get a second Pokemon. Breeding was another problem they had in Fr/Lg, just because they didn't have breeding in R/B/Y they won't let you breed your Pokemon until post-game where you have a whole another breeding centre for it. The maps and tiles needed to change is well, they were too similar to R/B/Y but the screen had just been stretched. They tried to make as little changes as they could to Fr/Lg you just get such a big disappointment when you play them since you think you're playing the same game but on GBA but as you play more of it, it just feels so different but not enough so to make it feel like a different game. HG/SS actually seemed like a new experience, with the whole kimono sisters plot and giving the buildings completely new tiles, adding the Sinnoh evolutions in and changing the layout and puzzles for the GYMs. They were just all features Fr/Lg seemed to lack.
After playing through most of SoulSilver, I have to admit that it is not a bad remake. It's actually pretty fun. I really don't like the remake music though. Firered was a complete flop in my opinion and I've never finished it.
The originals are definitely much better in my opinion. The music is 10 times better in my opinion. I also find it a lot easier to play simply because I am so much more familar with the games. When I was playing through Soulsilver, there were some move I'd never heard of (since I haven't played D/P or B/W) and it wouldn't know what it would do. |
I love the originals. There's nothing like picking up your Gameboy Colour and start playing it to relieve nostalgia.
I have to say that remakes are better.
Remakes are better because they have more features than originals and their graphics is better. Of course their graphics is better but have to say it because HG/SS graphics are beautiful. Also HG/SS game music is better because I like new music more than old 8-bit music. |
The original because that what I grew up on. Don't get me wrong I like the remake it just something about playing the good old gameboy color sitting there for hours not even noticing the time. but that just me.
For the sake of nostalgia, I'll be going with the originals. They have far better gaming experience.
However, remakes have more features (especially the Physical/ Special split) and better graphics. |
DEFINITELY the original ones, without a doubt. I don't like HG/SS at all, and FR/LG were meh as well. I grew up with the original ones as one of my first (Pokémon) games and I just think they got so much more character to them, I'm even thinking of replaying the first gen with my friend.
Blue version started it all for me way back when, I still love to play it occasionally, however my eyes fail me using the old systems after a while. If I do play the old games I use adaptors/Pokémon stadium to play through the television. But prefer the backlit 3DS.
I Really love the new versions and remakes, they are colourful and are playable for longer what with all the extra items and Pokémon to search for. (I Do miss surfing up and down the side of Cinnibar Island to solve all my problems though lol) I can’t wait till the game evolves even further, it’s come such a long way already from the, let’s face it pretty simple, Red and Blue versions. I expect to see a 3D roaming RPG in the next few generations with Pokémon stadium style battling. Zeus |
The remakes. By far. And whoever picked the originals has to admit that they only did it because of nostalgia, because, even though to me it was with the remakes, we all spent a shitload of time just mindlessly walking around Kanto/Johto, be it in whatever version it is, not fully knowing what is going on except that your level >80 starter is epic and that you need to smash all the things with your 4 STABs. Because though some can say that the only addition, besides the fixed mechanics, FRLG brought was the Seviis, then if it's the same, the only difference other than that is the graphics, who are better in FRLG. And if we talk HGSS, then it's even better
And though I also may be a bit biased on this, but going with nostalgia/"just because it has that original magic"/because it started it all really shouldn't be the way to classify the games, or compare them to each other. That comes from being a kid, not from the game itself. I remember feeling that way when going through Rock Tunnel, and asking help to my older friends cause I couldn't understand the puzzle in Lt. Surge's gym. And though that still happens a bit when replaying them, not being able to have that little feeling when playing them, be whatever game it is (for me, Dragon Ball on PS2, Pokémon on GBA, so on so forth) but that doesn't make them worse games |
For R/B/Y, I prefer the remake just because they fixed the missingno glitch.
For G/S/C, I prefer the originals. |
I most definitely prefer the originals in both situations, but HGSS are much better remakes than FRLG were.
Quote:
GSC are amazing. I love the music, the graphics, the sprites, everything. And when HGSS came out, I was a bit reluctant to play because I was afraid the remakes wouldn't do the originals any justice. But boy, HGSS were absolutely wonderful. I can't even choose which I like better, because GSC and HGSS will always hold a special place in my heart. As for RBY and FRLG, the originals are definitely superior for nostalgic reasons. |
Originals, for being wonderful and nostalgia,
But remakes, for running shoes. |
I prefer the originals because of the nostalgia, they were such a huge part of my life as a child. I choose to play the remakes nowadays though due to the fact that I can transfer my pokemon to the current generation.
I like the originals better, mostly because they have that old nostalgia feeling, and have a faster pace
I prefer FR/LG to RBY, but GSC to HGSS.
I can't really answer this completely, I prefer G/S/C to HG/SS but FR/LG vs R/B/Y I'm not sure I need to replay them :)
Personally I like the originals of G/S/C mainly because they were a big impact on my childhood and they were the series I played most often. More used to the originals, I guess.
But with R/B/Y, I'm more used to FR/LG because even though I did have Pokemon Yellow around the same time, I always got stuck in it. I think if I grew up more with Red and Blue I might have liked the originals more than the remakes. |
Originals. Like the textures more
Original RBY will always hold a dear place in my heart, the remakes weren't as epic of a difference, but HG and SS were way better than their originals. The remake for those had so much added that HG is currently my favorite version above all the other ones. So much so that I recently restarted playing HG.
I love the originals, because they're the first games I played and the ones I always play over and over again.
i prefer r/b/y over fr/lg, and hg/ss over the g/s/c
Quote:
It was probably both the hype and how new the whole thing was to me that makes the experience irreplaceable. Unless somehow Pokemon becomes a HUGE worldwide craze again, you won't get me as excited to play Pokemon now as much as I was back then. Now, I've never played the HeartGold/SoulSilver remakes, so I can't speak on that, but it still won't be the same as the original. I guess its just tied into so many good firsts, like how Pokemon games were was my 1st video game, that you can't replicate that with the remakes. |
Can't beat the originals, companies generally try too hard when doing a remake and they just don't have the same feel. G/S/C > SS/HG, SS/HG are still excellent games (LOVE the Pokemon following you feature), I just prefer the originals. So many memories.
Oh and most definitely R/B/Y, FR/LG were horrible, just horrible. ~Unknown |
Remakes~ I don't let nostalgia cloud my judgement.
I much more enjoyed the longer story, the added gameplay, so on, as apposed to the originals. It made for me feeling like I got my moneys worth. |
I perfer R/B/Y Solely because Mew was a Hidden Pokemon and Strike my whole gameplay when I found out I couldn't get a Mew unless it was an event that you had to go to to get one.
I also Perfer G/S/C because I had Gold when it first came out and loved it (Cyndaquil all the way.) Also when I found out that the last pokemon was #251, Celebi (Also another event Pokemon I had really wanted) This Generations Pokemon to me however...its fun and everything, but the feeling and hype isn't there anymore. I mean think about it for a second when you found out back in the day, Pokemon The First Movie Came out. How much hype was it? I miss those days. =\ - MegamanC |
Nostalgia purposes, and even difficulty reasons, I prefer the original. Maybe it's just because I was a young kid at the time, but the original was seriously harder than the remakes ^.^
Originals hands down. Grew up on them and I will always remember spending hours playing them. The feeling you got when to caught a rare pokemon or win a hard battle was wicked! Never gonna forget.
I'd actually have to say Remakes for both Gen 1 & 2. As much as I love originals and nostalgia etc. The remakes just had so much more to offer and not to mention the graphics, I'm fine with older graphics for a certain amount of time.. I'm definitely looking forward to the next set of remakes.
As much as I love the originals, it always annoyed me that you couldn't run. And the graphics play a role in my picking the remakes too.
Quote:
Originals easily.. Never can beat the originals, but the remakes give something else to the mix.
I prefer RBY/GSC because I'm a very nostalgic and sentimental person, and a Pokémon Purist.
The originals, definitely.
The oldschool graphics and music make them waaaaaay better. But I still like the reamkes. |
I'm not really decided on which I like more as both have their pros and cons, but I do like each one for what they're worth. I find the originals to be quite fun and challenging (especially in the case of Yellow's upgraded Gym Leaders) due to the slightly earlier battle mechanics and smaller possible move pools, plus trying out some of the major glitches can keep you entertained for hours. The newer games provide updated versions with things such as natures, far better graphics and a lot more end-game content. I guess I'd have to say that I prefer the original during the battles as they are more challenging, while the remakes perform better in terms of the overworld.
I perfer the originals just because I grew up with them :P
Originals, due to the quirky charms that make them what they are.
The remakes are streamlined, which is to be expected and they are the better games, but it isn't very conductive of the original feel. |
I would say remakes...they are usualy better than originals.
Like new pkmn, legendarys text and such Edit: but pkmn crystal is best of all gb and gbc pkmn games :D. |
I'll play either. But I have to say I prefer the originals music a whole lot more, especially New Bark Town.
