Sleep Powder: The Scourge of Trainers
I'm on the SS Anne, trying to fight my rival. He keeps using sleep powder and leech seed with Ivysaur and it's a pain in the butt. It's one of those moves that works ON you, but not FOR you. :dead:
|
Sleep Powder works for me a lot.
*loves annoying everyone with a Venasaur that will never go down and Sleep Powders everything* Should have picked Bulbasaur so you wouldn't have to fight it later on =p Strategies: -Use a strong and fast Flying type to take it out before it can use Sleep Powder -Use your own Grass Pokemon/Butterfree to Sleep Powder it (then Butterfree can use Confusion which is Super Effective) -Get a Pokemon with Insomnia or Vital Spirit The Flying one may not work that well though, I've taken down Skarmorys with my Sleep Powdering Venasaur =] |

Thanks for the advice...I wish I had Charmander...(though fighting Brock and Misty would be PAINFUL)
If I had my Blazekin I'd wipe them out. But alas, I left Ruby on an airplane. |

Actually, Drowzee is probably your best bet. Not only is it immune to Sleep Powder, but it can hurt Ivysaur with it's Confusion attack being supereffective (part Poison, you see). Drowzee starts off with Pound and Hypnosis (be ironic, and put them to sleep!), and learns Confusion at L11, so it's easy to see a way to beat Ivysaur with this.

Don't get me wrong but Drowzee isn't really the most likeable pokemon there is, I recommend Butterfree, easy to train learns its moves fast, all-round good pokemon

Grrrrrrr...I hate it when my opponents use those types of attacks on me. XD Well, I can help you out with your Ivysaur problem. ^_______^
Unless you have a Pokemon that is good against Ivysaur, say a Pidgey or a Spearow, then you may have to use better tactics. Seeing as Ivysaur uses Sleep Powder more often than you'd like, try using a super-speedy Pokemon against Ivysaur first to get in the first few hits. Maybe buy some Awakenings if you haven't already just to be on the safe side. I'd also recommend that you try and use attacks that can help to immobilze Ivysaur for a turn. Seeing as your rival has Ivysaur, that must mean you have Squirtle. By now, I'm guessing your Squirtle knows Bite. Bite can cause the opponent to flinch, giving you some extra time to take out the Ivysaur. Also, like Toothache said, Drowzee, being immune to Sleep Powder can be a good Pokemon to have. You can use hypnosis to make Ivysaur fall asleep, then attack with Pound and Confusion. ^______^ Well, I hope I helped you out a bit. ^o^ Good luck. =D ~Kelsey |

You could try to raise your Pokemon's speed. Later in the game in Lavender Town, you will get an item called the PokeFlute from a man named Mr. Fuji. If you play the PokeFlute in battle, it awakens the Pokemon so you don't have to keep buying sleep healers.

I don't really see how it can be so hard :S What are you trying to beat it with?
But yea, Drowzee is probably the best if you need it.... |
Definately catch a Drowzee, Hypno is underrated as a pokemon, it's Special Defense is humongous, and it can definately dish out damage.
Personally, I say train Drowzee/Hypno, as it will be extremely useful for pretty much the whole game, I know, because I had one in an old file, which almost wiped the E4 on his own. |
I would say Primape/Mankey then Seismis Toss the Grassy-Dinosaur to death =)
|
i was in that part and i used my butterfree =D my butterfree was faster than the ivysaur and since butterfree has compound eyes, i kept using sleep powder on ivysaur and then confusion (also used pidgey with gust XD XD)
