Ho-Oh September 22nd, 2011 5:35 AM

SINCE EDUCATION WAS MENTIONED... I go to uni on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday: 3:30 - 6:15pm (usually 6pm)
Tuesday: 11:30-2:00pm & 4:30 - 7:15pm (usually around 7pm)
Wednesday: 9:30 - 12:15pm (usually around 12pm)

As for general sleeping, I usually sleep around 1am and I'm forced to wake up around 8am. It's rare when I sleep before 1, or if I wake up later than around 10:00 on a day that isn't the weekend. :x

Oryx September 22nd, 2011 5:38 AM

My schedule is great but I still whine about it. xD Only 3 classes on Monday and Wednesday from 9:35-11:30 and then from 1:55-2:45, and only 2 on Thursdays, 12:30-1:45 and 5:00-6:15, then Friday has the same as MW plus a Physics lab every other week at 4 PM. But Tuesdays I'm going from 12:30 until 6 with like no breaks, lol. :(

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2011 5:55 AM

I think I have it really bad.

Mondays, wake up at 6:00 AM, go to school by 7:00 AM, come home at 3:30 PM.
Tuesdays, wake up at 6:15 AM, come home at 4:00 PM.
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, wake up at 5:45 AM, be at school by 6:30 AM, and come back home at either 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM or 1:50 PM.
Saturdays? Wake up at 6:30 AM, get to school at 7:10 AM or earlier, and the school's out at... 3:00 PM.

I have almost half of my day in school.

At least I only have 1.5 more months before I graduate from my school.

I don't school and my work schedule is really erratic lol - but the one constant is that no matter what, I go to bed around 2AM and get up between 8 and 9AM. If I sleep more than that I feel like crap.

Speaking of erratic schedules... urghh working 12-9 for the next two days.

Thats a hectic schedule. At least you graduate in 1.5 months although are you going to college Twiggy?

I just hope when I eventually get a job that my work schedule isnt too ridiculous.

Sweet Candace September 22nd, 2011 6:25 AM

I have 4 50-minute classes, and two 1 hour, 10 minute "break periods". The break periods are used for students to eat lunch and what not, or visit with their adviser(s).

I will be going to college. But there will be a gap year... or something. I really need that break.

Besides, 1.5 more months, and it's all over. :)

I think I know which school NOT to send my kids to now.

I highly recommend that. I'm on my 'gap year' right now, which has turned into an 'indefinite gap period' but it's definitely the best thing I ever did. College just drains the life out of you if you jump straight into it.

Only if you let it. If you schedule smart, you'll be alright. But it is an incredible workload and it will get to you if you aren't careful.

Meganium September 22nd, 2011 6:53 AM

I go to school in the afternoon, which is from 1:00 to sometimes 5 or 5:30. I used to go to school in the early mornings from 8:30 and get off at 4. I hated that schedule so much. 1:00 - 5:30 is the best schedule ever. :D I get to sleep late and sleep in every day!

Sweet Candace September 22nd, 2011 6:58 AM

I carefully planned my college schedule this year to have off on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Since I'm not working right now, those two days off really help me rest. And when I get a job, it'll give me something to do on those days.

donavannj September 22nd, 2011 7:11 AM

I go to school from 12-4/12-10 on Mondays and from 12-7/3-7 on Fridays depending on the week, and I have the rest of the week off to work any job I get.

It didn't really have much to do with my schedule, it was just a tedious, monotonous experience that I know I'll have to get out of the way some day - but going into it fresh from 13 years of school... it just felt like continuing the rut. But I guess everyone's experience is different lol

Mew~ September 22nd, 2011 7:42 AM

I have school Monday to Friday. I manage to go bed at around 11pm everyday, wake up around 7:00am for school. I like to sleep in on weekends.

I wish I could say the same thing. My gap year turned into an indefinite gap period too, and it's making me miserable. I'd give anything to be in college right now.

Esper September 22nd, 2011 8:46 AM

School is something you have to stick with or you'll be fighting an uphill battle to get back into the pace of it. Everyone I know who's taken a gap year or something similar hasn't been able to seriously get going again.

DarkAlucard September 22nd, 2011 8:48 AM

My work schedule is tough: Monday to Friday I get up at 4:45 am, to get ready and be in the company at 6 am (my time of entry). We regularly go out at 3:30 pm, but if there is much work, I stay on occasions until 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm. And once a month, I have to go on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Coming out of working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I go to my Master's classes.

Having overcome two gap years and getting into my favorite major (architecture), I wouldn't be so sure of it. It all comes down to determination-whether you want to keep going or not.

Also, deja vu.

I think if Post-Secondary options were more popular/easily obtainable, this wouldn't be so much of a big deal. The adjustment between college and High school, that is.

Shiny Celebi September 22nd, 2011 9:55 AM

If college wasnt so difficult, I might have gone.

Ryoutarou September 22nd, 2011 10:09 AM

I generally find that my work isn't too difficult, it's just time management that can be hard to properly do. I think with the proper time management, even a difficult level of work can be easy to manage if you can balance it out with recreational stuff so you don't burn out. I know I've managed to keep on top of my work this semester because I've done a better job than usual with time management. Despite the work, it's definitely worth the investment.

This.

I was tackling a three year gap by the time I started college and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. College (usually) only gets difficult for me when I don't apply myself enough, though there are those times I just...get hit with a ton of work that makes me want to cry. If a person really aspires for something, you'll get it because you'll want to put in the amount of work you must to have that goal become a reality.

Contrary to yourself, in high school, physics was the subject I was the best at, complementing maths and chemistry. I loathed biology, as well as philosophy and sociology. The way our teachers addressed those subjects was utterly unappealing and dementia-provoking (yes, to that extremity!).

My advice to you is as simple as concentrating and successively doing your homework assignments. Worked out for me great after a series of slacking off and disregarding assigned homework.

Oh, and I eat snow. A lot. Well, when I was a kid, I did.

Xyrin September 22nd, 2011 12:38 PM

I'm only in 7th grade although I do do algebra and so far the work hasn't been too hard. Not much homework or anything and it's nice. I bet it seems easy to me because I'm only taking 1 high school class. xD Ugh I'll be taking Algebra 2 when I'm a freshman. ;;

Oryx September 22nd, 2011 12:44 PM

Chances are you won't struggle too much in high school either, tbh. You seem smart, so maybe you'll overload with higher classes and struggle senior year or something but it's not as hard as it may seem. :P

Oh god, Algebra...I...those courses were a nightmare for me. When it comes to math, I'm not the brightest bulb, or the sharpest knife when it comes to math, I'm pretty much awful at it. I could never ask my parents for help because they were like me. I hated math, and loved Social Studies/World History.

My next break is Fall Break which only lasts a few days and it's coming up in a few weeks.

The two big college breaks are End Semester 1/Winter Break which stretches from mid-December to mid-January, and End Semester 2/Summer Break which stretches from mid-May to late-August.

Lucky duck! I'd love to get out of class :/ Fortunately though... this year marks a lot of ends for me :P

I'll be finishing all the math and history I'll need. And I'll only need one more English. The rest is just a lot of science which I can take down easy ^-^

donavannj September 22nd, 2011 2:43 PM

My next school break happens to fall on Columbus Day, I think, and if not Columbus Day, my next day off is for sure the 21st of October (1 DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY!) for an Education Minnesota convention, since I attend a school staffed by union teachers. Other than that, there's nothing until the week of American Thanksgiving (not to be confused with Canada's).

Any sort of federal financial aide? Not sure how Canada does that.

Alley Cat September 22nd, 2011 7:46 PM

AVID has taught me a lot! :D
Get scholarships. EVEN IF you don't meet the criteria, sign-up anyway. If, at the end of their giving period or whatever you want to call it, they have extra money, then they divide it among the rest of the people who have applied. So, apply to everyone you can, if you can and all that.

Unfortunately some states (if not all) cut education loans/ funds from students this year. My boyfriend was lucky in that he only had to wait a while extra to receive his student loan, although he had to put the deposit for classes/ dorm on credit card before he received it. Everything is sorted now.. but I could just imagine how disastrous it would be for someone without credit. I wonder if you can apply for a separate bank account without having to have your mom/parents cosign.. or invest in a simple $25 or so locked moneybox/safe that you can hide out in the garden/dig up in your yard >_> Where you can sneak cash in.. @[email protected] I'm always paranoid about that kind of stuff so I would invest in a personal safe. For example.. I have a fireproof/waterproof safe that I store some of my important data in (burned DVDs, external HDD, some portable usbs)

Team Fail, I hope you can try to find some more bursaries and other ways to make your way into school. Liam Crawford September 23rd, 2011 7:38 AM

How exactly do you get a blog? From what I understand from skimming through the previous posts, I guess you have to donate to unlock the feature. But I'm sure I saw that there is another way to do that.

The idea of a blog seems copacetic, especially in an active community. I'm usually talkative to no end, reaching a rather disturbing/vexing level of pleonasm -- a blog seems just right for me.

Mew~ September 23rd, 2011 8:03 AM

Heres a quote from the FAQ Liam;
Quote:

Blogs are an additional feature on PC and while everyone is free to comment on public blogs, they can only be created if you meet these criteria:
  • Become a Community Supporter of tier 2 or higher. (ie. donate at least $10)
  • Obtain at least 5000 posts.
  • Be selected by the staff.
  • Become a staff member.
As mentioned, there is a chance of being chosen specially by the staff for a blog. The staff may offer a blog to members who contribute actively to the community. If the staff believes you may have something worthwhile to contribute in a blog, there is a chance you will be selected to use the blogging feature.
I'd try and suck up to a member of staff. ;)
I can't really donate any more money, so I'll probably have to wait till I reach 5000 posts. xD; Another contest might come around sooner or later though, so you could try and win one of those~

I have a few ideas about things I'd like to blog about; Why Mudkip's are evil, Why Google Chrome sucks, n' a load of other stuff.

Ryoutarou September 23rd, 2011 8:19 AM

I've never once donated (perks of being an ex-admin!) and I already had well over five thousand posts by the time the donator usergroup was introduced, so this sort of just fell into my lap.

I would probably just end up blogging about playing White version just so I have something to keep me in the game, I put it down for too long and recently started fresh because I had no idea where I was or who half the Pokemon on my team were.

The idea of a blog seems copacetic, especially in an active community. I'm usually talkative to no end, reaching a rather disturbing/vexing level of pleonasm -- a blog seems just right for me.

There are other ways, in addition to the FAQ snippet. Sometimes supportership is given away as a prize for community events, and sometimes generous members here make anonymous donations to their friends. :)

Those two are possibly the most strange concepts I have ever heard of XD

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:05 AM

I wonder how many people would blog if it was open to everybody.

Ho-Oh September 23rd, 2011 9:07 AM

Agreed with the love for Chrome.
/only uses Chrome

@Nick: imo tbh anyone who visits blogs which is probably like 500 or so in total. :x

alisaie September 23rd, 2011 9:07 AM

I'm quite scared to know, to be quite honest. I need to use my blog for something more than just advertising. =u=

I stick with Firefox. Back when mods were double-posting (which I think is happening again) Firefox was the only one I wouldn't double-post on. Chrome and Safari were different stories.

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:17 AM

I use Safari and Chrome the most. Firefox sucks on Mac. I'm sorta trying to migrate over to strictly using Chrome, though.

Mew~ September 23rd, 2011 9:18 AM

Well, Google Chrome doesn't like me is all, that's what I ment when I said google chrome sucked. xD;
Mudkip's are evil though. Your being brainwashed by their black holes of death that are their eyes if you don't think so. D:

Well, given the theme I'm using at the moment, the blog link seems to be at the top of the page and by User CP, I never really noticed them before when I first made an account here, so I don't think a lot of members notice them, except for the most active ones. :x But yeah, if they were a little more noticeable I'd be interesting. Especially if everyone could create entries.

Ryoutarou September 23rd, 2011 9:30 AM

Google Chrome love, yay. I haven't used any other browser in quite some time, though I'm not sure if that's out of my lazyness or because I truly find it better than the others.

It seems like the sort of think half the community would jump all over when it first happens and then you would progressively have that whittled down to those select users who would blog regularly in the first place.

Liam Crawford September 23rd, 2011 9:32 AM

Not necessarily open for every user. I like the idea that whoever contributes to the community through making good posts and posting interesting topics or recent happenings gets to unlock the blog feature. I seriously doubt I will donate at the moment and reaching 5000 posts seems a bit extreme, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope some day a staff member selects me to have a blog. Or not.

I usually use Chrome on my laptop but as I am currently using my cousin's laptop, which does not have Chrome installed, hence I am inclined to stick with FireFox.

And what's with 'We are still working on a better slogan'? Is that the slogan or are you actually thinking of one? Had me curious.

Ho-Oh September 23rd, 2011 9:34 AM

I think the main reason I use Chrome is seriously for the spell check, and the fact that it doesn't die after 50 tabs like Firefox. XD; SO USEFUL.

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 9:34 AM

Google Chrome is a great side browser for me.

As for main browser...Firefox. I just can't stand the actual interface of Chrome for too long and I'm already so used to Firefox 3.6 to really use anything else as a main browser.

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:35 AM

Why doesn't it surprise me that you have 50 tabs open at a time?

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 9:36 AM

Who DOESN'T have 50 tabs open at a time?

I mean right now I have at least 96 open and that's a usual thing for me. XD

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:37 AM

I don't! I usually have about 4 open at a time.

Ho-Oh September 23rd, 2011 9:38 AM

^^ and the fact that my laptop is always on Hibernate and I just... don't bother to close tabs. XD;

You're too clean Nick. Be messy.

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 9:39 AM

Ahh I used to try and use less tabs when I had my old computer.

With this one, Firefox runs smoothly even while I have a good 90 or so tabs open.

Not to say I open that many tabs in one session, I just keep my computer on standby every night.

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:39 AM

I've never had the need to have more than 4 tabs open. What do you have so many tabs open for?

This.

I have five tabs open at the moment and the most I've ever had is 20 or so and that's when I just get too lazy to close them out, but it never lasts for very long. Disorganization bugs the living crap out of me, so I try to keep only the minimal amount of tabs that I need to actually browse comfortably open.

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 9:41 AM

It's mostly a habitual thing, I browse a lot of websites on a regular basis and I tend to open tabs for each individual search I conduct during my time online—even pointless ones.

I do get lost in the clutter at times, but that's something I just shrug off...because I get too lazy to redo the same searches again and again.

But wouldn't you like...end up spending more time searching for tabs with those open searches rather than just doing a fresh one? XD

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:44 AM

Anytime I have more than ten tabs open are when I open a tab for each page of something (usually comments on a news article) that I plan to read through. But when tabs start shrinking in size (you know, how when you open tabs and then they get smaller and smaller and eventually fade off the screen and into that little arrow thing?) I can't handle having too many tabs open at one time. Something about it is just a little overwhelming. I don't know what's what or what's where or anything. I really don't like that!

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 9:45 AM

Not at all, because it's not often that I would need to go through so many tabs to find what I'm looking for, and it's a rare occasion when I do.

More often than not, I only seem to go back on my latest opened tabs.

Ho-Oh September 23rd, 2011 9:46 AM

Oh God I have 102 tabs open, no wonder it lags--okay so that's like at least 80 opened from today since I cleared out tabs yesterday. I just know that Chrome kills the laptop if there's too many soo gotta fix that.

Nick September 23rd, 2011 9:53 AM

Tut tut. Shouldn't be blaming the browser for your resistance to closing tabs, Nica!!

Ryoutarou September 23rd, 2011 10:00 AM

Oh you...people and your insane amount of tabs, I'll never understand you. I also blame my OCD, but man I just cannot stand having so many tabs open, it would drive me crazy. In fact, I have ten tabs open now and it's bugging me. Time to close some!

Signomi September 23rd, 2011 10:02 AM

Pfft, Nica and I can be alone in this category of people who leave too many tabs open for all I care. XD

This all started when I got my new computer, one could say it's a bad habit...but I find it convenient, and I'm sure I can't expect anybody to understand that!

Sweet Candace September 23rd, 2011 10:36 AM

I usually have a whole bunch of tabs up, and it slows my computer down sometimes. But, I always close out every tab at the end of my current session.

Ryoutarou September 23rd, 2011 10:41 AM

Once I get my new desktop set up, I'm going to go on a mad dash of leaving as many tabs as I can open. Which in my case will probably be like 30 before it starts to eat away at me!

Oryx September 23rd, 2011 10:46 AM

My boyfriend constantly has 5-10 tabs up of just Facebook alone. I can't understand it for the life of me...half of them are just the home page cause he never closes them out! It drives me nuts :(

That...tends to be how I end up getting multiple tabs open. @[email protected] At times I'll have four or five PC home page tabs open and I have no idea why.
