A Decrease in Activity?

Am I the only one who's noticed a decrease in activity here on PC? I suppose it could just be because of school and such, but it seems a bit unsettling to me.

Sydian September 27th, 2011 6:09 PM

How is it unsettling? I mean, you said it yourself. It's mainly because of school. It shouldn't be bothering you too much.

Moltres Rider September 27th, 2011 6:10 PM

I've noticed this myself as well...

bobandbill September 27th, 2011 6:21 PM

As said, school for lots of people, and also the lack of a main game coming out in Japan around this time like the last three years means less activity not only for this forum but every other Pokemon forum out there. It happens - activity has its highs and lows after all.

Morkula September 27th, 2011 7:12 PM

Every single forum sees a decrease in activity in September. I've never seen one that doesn't. People are starting school and obviously have less time for posting on forums due to school, homework, and such.

Taemin September 27th, 2011 8:58 PM

It might be unsettling, but it happens every year.
PC has high and low points, but either way it's always pretty horribly active. xD

It's not like it ever has times where it's totally dead, so it's not any big problem.

Ciax September 27th, 2011 9:09 PM

From the way you guys are talking I'm guessing collge or something is starting now in America. I'm form Australia and in high scholl and right now I'm on school holidays, so I'm very active. Probably a bit too much....

Same here for me, School Holidays are the best xD

Impo September 28th, 2011 5:48 AM

Well, I feel I've been posting a lot more than usual.
But that's just in three or four different threads, so I guess that wouldn't really add to activity.

Masterge77 September 28th, 2011 5:59 AM

Well, the forum had gotten a bit quieter in the past few months, I personally blame the removal of social groups a few months back for the drop in activity on this site (bring back social groups damnit, I loved them!)

Fairly sure that has absolutely nothing to do with a decrease in activity.

Wat? Lol.
I am pretty certain that has nothing to do with the decrease in the activity, considering they weren't at all that active in the first place.

As everyone has said, the academic term has started back and it will be a month or two before it 'gets active' again.

Saerith September 28th, 2011 8:38 AM

Maybe people have gotten fed up with not being able to get on because the server can't handle the traffic it has? I mean if a guest can't get on half as much as I can't they are deffo not going to join. That and the school term as said above

That has nothing to do with it. PC's always had server issues, yet PC has over 200,000 members. It's school, it happens every year around this time.

Saerith September 28th, 2011 9:21 AM

I don't think it was always this bad though, when i first joined it was about 20 minutes a day but now i can hardly get on for 5 hours a day, more activity would mean a lot of people couldn't get on at all and maybe some guests have came on at that time and just given up after an hour or two. Some issues are always going to happen but it really shouldnt be a case of having to stay up to 4am to check this place. Be very hard to find a site that doesnt experience downtime, maybe its because im in the uk but its really bad

The 100 Mega Shock September 28th, 2011 9:23 AM

It has been far, far worse than this.

Saerith September 28th, 2011 9:25 AM

Out of curiosity why hasn't PC gotten a different server if this one is that bad?

It goes in spurts, and it could be based on your locale's connection strength, as well. Since you're in the UK, if the server goes down at about noon for you, Rukario probably won't see the issue until 3 hours later because he's likely to be asleep at the time. This gets compounded by the fact that there's usually a traffic spike due to US members getting off school at about 8 PM your time.

The biggest reason PC doesn't have a new server is the prohibitive cost of getting a better server.

If you would like to pay for one then feel free, but they are very expensive and PC doesn't really have much of an income...

luke September 28th, 2011 9:30 AM

There was a point where PC was down for a whole month. So people REALLY shouldn't be whining about 20 minutes to an hour of downtime.

Cherrim September 28th, 2011 10:08 AM

Well it's not like downtime isn't really, really annoying, no matter how long it inconveniences you. But there just isn't anything we can feasibly do about that right now so we've all just got to grin and bear it.

But the immediate decrease in activity isn't too surprising. Usually we do get an increase during the school year because people use PC as a procrastination tool but a lot of our members are also getting older so maybe more people have to re-evaluate how they spend their free time now that they're in the later years of schooling and until they find the combination of free time/studying/social/whatever, it'll stabilize.

There could be lots of reasons but PC is still pretty active so I don't think there's anything to be worried about. (If anything, the fact that PC is less active right now just means less database errors!)

Weavile05 September 28th, 2011 11:05 AM

Just when I asked about a decrease in activity, I make a thread that gets 21 posts in a few hours. Talk about Ironic huh? But yeah I guess I was overreacting a little bit.

The groups weren't exactly a wellspring of activity themselves... And we have Other Clubs and Pokemon Clubs that can just as much do the job of Social Groups so I see no reason why they would every be re-instituted.

And not to pretty much restate what everyone else said. If activity is a concern you could always spur on activity through posting actively with the forum you frequent either through regular posting, generating discussions in topics, or creating topics to discuss.

M4 September 28th, 2011 7:58 PM

Most ppl come here for the rom hacks and learning it, it's come and go.

Kirbychu September 28th, 2011 9:27 PM

I'm positive that activity will increase when a new Pokemon game is announced.

I'm talking about a real Pokemon game, not that Pokepark nonsense. :|
