Rain River

Introduction :2:
Hello, PC! I was wondering if anyone wanted to show off there skills in a few Pokémon edits. I, myself, have been interested in hacking for a couple of years, but haven't had much of a chance to do it. I've also had dreams of making third, fourth, and now fifth generation hacks, as well as a hack of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

This team is good for big thinkers and dreamers like myself. Research is one of our top priorities. By joining Rain River, one is saying that they want to go above and beyond any basic hack. They want to excel and become revolutionary.

Anyway, I should stop sounding so impossible (I have a really bad habit of that). Currently, the hack we'll be working on is Pokémon Clear Version. The original idea was Pokémon ShadowWhite, but that was before any of us knew that there was ever going to be a Generation V. After that, it was Pokémon Palladium, but that name is being used by FireShock, whom I wish the best of luck to in his hack.

You don't have to be that experienced to join, really. Just make sure you want to hack. I will let basically anyone join! :) Notice the unlimited researchers. If you have no idea what you're doing, that's the job for you. The more a researcher learns the more we all learn. (Unexperienced people are usually a little more curious anyway! :))

Current Projects :t233:
As I said before, we will be working on Pokémon Clear Version, a FireRed hack. On top of that we will be working on a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time hack, but that is currently second to Palladium. We will also be doing research on Generation IV and V games. Here's the hacks in detail:

ROM Projects
Pokémon Clear Version
Base ROM: Pokémon FireRed Version (US)

Platform: GBA

Story:
NOW OPEN FOR IDEAS! I prefer to release as little of the story as possible. However, I will tell you that it has a very dark, mysterious feel to it. It won't be cheesy if that's what you wanted. Anyway, the main character is basically the behind-the-scenes trainer throughout the Pokémon series. He/she is under Professor Deku, working not just to build a complete Pokédex, but to complete several missions and save the world from a dark team that I will not tell you about. Yet. :bandit: Oh, and the hero will get married to the trainer of the opposite gender. (Awwwww.... How absolutely adorable!
:pink_love:) This will take place in the Sinnoh region.

Trainer Sprite: The male will look quite a bit like the rival from HG/SS, but with different coloured hair (colour not chosen yet) and the red lining on his outfit will be white. Pretty simple. Why not make him carry a sword on his back, too? Make things epic. The Female trainer will be like that of FireRed, but blond and wears darker clothes and apparel. The rival? Currently unknown.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Paradox
Base ROM: Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time (US)

Platform: N64

Story: Basically, It's Ocarina of Time all over again. Throughout the whole game, there is some mystery about you, like you're not supposed to be there. YOU'RE NOT. The soul of the original Ocarina of Time's Link falls through time and into the timeline of Ocarina of Time. Everything's already happened. Everything's already done and finished. But he's back. No more story until later. Sorry!

Texture: We're unsure about the texture editing right now, but you can still apply. :) We'd love your help! :D

Research Projects
NDS:
All we really need right now is some map researchers for the 4th and 5th generation games, so if you can help, PLEASE DO! :cer_boogie:

N64:
We're looking for some research on music importation/exportation, and multiplayer compatibility in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (v1.0).

Also, I'm currently working on a secret Legend of Zelda project, but no info will be released until I actually get somewhere with it. ;) I'll only tell you info if you seem REALLY interested, think impossibilities to be totally possible, and you have earned my trust. Until then, you're stuck waiting. :mudkip;):

You're HIRED!

I really like the graphic designs. Mapping a region's pretty tough. I started to do Sinnoh and couldn't even do Twinleaf Town. :P I've gotten a little old with mapping, so I think I'll just stick to basic editing for now. Can't wait to see your skills! :)

Proof of skills: I haven't got any proof yet, but if you give me the right directions then I could make a map that is extremely unique.
Position applying for: Mapper
Experience: Around 2 or 3 months.

Additional Information: I might be only able to work on the hack every now and then, but I'll try my best when I'm online or when you need me. By the way, I'm GMT +1.

HIRED. Although, what map are you doing? One of the regions or something else? I'm cool with anything! :) You could either re-create a region or build your own island! The story's pretty flexible right now so you can do anything! :)

It's funny how as soon as I put 'mapper' as one of the jobs, I get people in no time. :P

BUT WE STILL NEED MORE MEMBERS! :D

Rayziken 2 October 8th, 2011 3:47 AM

Well, I can edit maps until they're unrecognisable. However, I don't know how to change the connections so that the map connects to another map via another direction. For example, I don't know how to make Pallet Town connect to a route sideways.

The Author October 8th, 2011 5:02 PM

I remember I figured out how to do that once, but I can't remember now. I'll figure it out for ya! ;) In the meantime, where's the rest of our members! Let's get some more people! Don't stop NOW! :D

Here's a coplete A-map tutorial that has connections in it:
http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=161616

But anyway, Rayziken, what region are you doing? Your choice. Now, when re-creating a region, I don't just want you to re-create a region, but have fun with it. Make sure its recognisable, but still pleasantly different. For example, in Kanto, I'm putting in a river that goes throughout the whole region (Ailema River, by the way. Originally it was a pond in Viridian Forest, but....).

Now before you think you're wasting your time on a really long game, I don't think I'm putting ALL the regions in there. And if I am, not all of them will be story-packed, but just for fun. If I get Hoenn in there I'm probably not doing much with it. Johto might have a little bit of story, and Sinnoh will be full of story, like Kanto. Unova I don't think will be in this hack at all, but I'm planning on it for a future hack.

Rayziken 2 October 15th, 2011 3:11 AM

I'll work on Kanto. After all, it's quite easy to work on (Hoenn if we use a Hoenn ROM.).

Also, I have an idea for the game, you choose a starter every region, but the twist is it's your level.

For example, if your Pokemon are Lvl 53, Lvl 72, Lvl 81, Lvl 62 and Lvl 90, then the starter would either be Lvl 50 or if possible, the level of your lowest Pokemon.

Sounds good! :) You can go ahead and make me some Kanto maps and send me the patch.

And about your idea, I was planning on making every starter catchable, but at a low level, and it wouldn't be just given to you. Just giving out Pokémon makes the game a little to easy, especially at higher levels like that. I'm still deciding what starters I'm going to use at the beginning of the game. I think 4th gen.

And speaking of 4th generation, are there any good Sinnoh mappers out there? I know it's asking a lot, but that would help PLENTY. ;)

In all fairness, everything your wanting to achieve you can learn how to by googling it.

Editing for OoT (there's many tuts on youtube)
There's a bunch of texture edits on youtube I'm sure if you asked people kindly they'd help you by explain how it's done...

Half the ''research'' you say needs to be done, has already been done by other people.

Thanks for the links. I actually recently downloaded UoT on my computer and I love it. And I've been searching for a decent music editor for a while, so thanks a lot! I'll update my post!

Personally, I never really liked 3rd gen to much. I like the 1st gen starters a lot but I think I'm going to kinda do the thing in Pokémon Yellow where people give the starters to you as you go along the Kanto region. But the STARTER starters for Pokémon Clear will probably be just the 4th gen ones. I'm not sure if I already said this, but all the starters will be catchable, just hard to find. I'm putting them in really random areas throughout the regions with a really low appearance rate.

Rayziken 2 October 19th, 2011 12:02 PM

Aww... I hate (Really, hate in this sentence means despise.) the Sinnoh starters. They're just boring and unexciting. Tell you what, how about:

Grass Starter: Bulbasaur
Fire Starter: Torchic
Water Starter: Piplup

Welcome aboard, Tcoppy! :D So, specifically, are you going to be recreating a region or editing one?

Not a bad idea, actually. Although I do think the grass starter should actually be Chikorita. It just seems fitting, ya know? I'll figure out something that everybody will love! ;)

We already have a Johto mapper and Hoenn might be a little hard on FireRed, but I'll totally take Hoenn if that's what you want to do! :)

It'll be fun fitting all these regions in one game. Should I just replace the Sevii islands with regions? I think that might work.

Rayziken 2 October 21st, 2011 10:13 AM

You should replace the Sevii Islands and unused maps with places from other Regions. Also, how about making Unova Routes (E.g. Newer Route 1) become three digit numbers (E.g. Route 1 would become Route 001, and Route 11 would become Route 011.). I'd also like to apply for a new position I made up:

Yes, replace the Sevii Islands with regions and it should be perfect. And yes I will do Hoenn

Rayziken 2 October 22nd, 2011 3:02 AM

Have we got a tile inserter yet? I'm asking because I wouldn't like to be one, but instead I'd absolutely love to judge the titles!

Tcoppy October 22nd, 2011 2:55 PM

Just saying, we should only do small parts of each region. For example, for the Sevii Isles, One Island can be a part Kanto (Vermillion City and areas around there since Vermillion is the main port in Kanto), Two and Three Island could be Hoenn (Slateport and areas around it) and Four and Five being Johto (Olivine and areas around it) and someone could do Sinnoh and Unova ports and areas for Six and Seven.

Three digit Unova routes isn't a bad idea, actually. :)
I believe the proper title for that position is "creative consultant" and yes, you may be one. ;)

No, we don't have any. You can definitely judge the tiles when we do, though! ;)

By the way, just a message to everyone:

I haven't really been giving you your projects yet because we're still building the team. Once everything's set in place you'll be getting your projects, but right now I'm not going to be giving out all of them so we avoid any confusion. I'll tell you what you can do so far through pm. ;)

Thank you!

Rayziken 2 October 24th, 2011 10:25 AM

Okay, thanks for giving me two more jobs!

By the way, what do you think about ading the Unknown Maps that appear in A-Map as parts of the other regions? In fact, we could even add our own maps, which is a good thing considering how much space a 5 Region game would need in terms of maps.
