Okay, I have to ask. Anyone else playin' since '97?

As in the first year that the games were released in the United States (not sure about other countries).

Picked my charmander in '97 on my red version. Completed my blue version Pokedex in '99, when they released Mew at the Pokemon Movie event lol.

Any old timers on here? come on, there's gotta be...

The Author October 29th, 2011 12:04 PM

Ummm.... You posted this twice.

Anyway, no. I was -1 when Pokémon came out! xD

Sydian October 29th, 2011 6:06 PM

I've been playing since 1999 with Yellow, but I've liked Pokemon since the beginning. idk if you would count me as much of a player back then though, cause I didn't get past Brock and then lost my game, so I mainly played both Pokemon Stadium games, Snap, and Puzzle League, haha. I was more of a TCG kid.

BaileyPlaysPokemon October 29th, 2011 6:25 PM

pokemon snap was the best. still throw it open every once in a while (:

Minishcap October 29th, 2011 9:35 PM

Yes! I began with the card game (pretty pics...) and then nagged on my mom so much to buy me the game. I wanted the Red version but she got my the Blue. I remember being so disappointed when I saw that ugly Blastoise. Later I played and I haven't stopped since then, although not playing non-stop since then.

Yoshikko October 30th, 2011 3:51 AM

Nope, I live in Europe, and my first Pokémon game was Yellow which came out in 2000. Means I was 6 years old when I first played it. I was 3 when the Pokémon games came out which is a little young XD

finally! lol i know what u mean though. i remember after my mom bought me red, i also conned her into buying me blue and yellow. she said "aren't these all the same game?" and i remember getting sooooo defensive on how they were different lol

psychomew2 October 30th, 2011 3:52 PM

I started playing during gen 1. I started with the anime and worked my way into the games from there though, so I haven't been playing since day 1. Pokemon stadium was my first game and after that I got red version, but I started with squirtle because I knew charmander would make dealing with brock a pain. At the end of my first game, blastoise was around lv 80 while everyone else was around lv 30 and didn't contribute much. In a way, I kinda did a solo challenge of my red version long before challenge runs got popular XD. Gen 1 was also the only time in my entire pokemon carrer that I raised anything to lv 100. Mewtwo ftw XD.

Sephirothxx October 31st, 2011 5:53 AM

I was 1 when Red and Blue came out, but I play my Red Version all the time since I got it in 2005....

AquaticWartortle October 31st, 2011 6:01 AM

I first got into the TCG when i was 7 & then I saved up when I was 8 I wanted to buy Pokemon Blue Version but I fell on the Ruby & Sapphire release date so in the end I walked out with a Pokemon Sapphire Version game. I got Blue version as my second game.

Snivy063 November 3rd, 2011 6:34 AM

My cousin from the US got one, and he lend it to me when he visited us. It was around 2001 or 2002 I guess. Can't remember the exact date.

mikey November 3rd, 2011 8:26 AM

Yup! Been playing since the beginning. I remember getting Red one of the first days it came out :)

hinkage November 3rd, 2011 8:32 AM

Sadly no, not in '97, but I played Blue in '99 so that's still pretty old.

Lord Varion November 3rd, 2011 2:02 PM

Yep, I got it when it came out in '97
Of course i moved a few years later, so ... I'm the only one in my area with a US version :I

blue November 3rd, 2011 5:37 PM

I think I did play back in 1997, I'm a true Pokéfan!

Deliciousfruit233 November 3rd, 2011 8:56 PM

Did Pokemon even leave Japan by '97?

Anyways, I was a little late. I first got Red version around 2000. Someone had actually sent it to my brother as a present, but he already had Blue, so he gave it to me.

alisaie November 3rd, 2011 9:44 PM

I didn't get into the games until I got Silver Version in 2000, on my eighth birthday. However, I've been a fan of Pokemon since the beginning, watching the anime, iirc.

SimJiv November 4th, 2011 1:58 PM

Didn't own a Pokémon Game when I was a kid. Played on friends game's, had the TCG Cards, the toys, watched the show and so, but didn't own a Gameboy.

In 2008 I bought Pokémon Red and Crystal and since then I have played them through alot.

thefacelessone64 November 4th, 2011 2:15 PM

i got an atomic purple gameboy color for my eighth birthday, along with red version and one of those purple skateboards with a handle on it that would flip up into a scooter( you guys remember those pieces of crap?), and i asked my mom to return it and get pokemon yellow instead (just saw the commercial for it on tv, it had just been released). i was so immersed in pokemon, i traded all my toys for cards, made tons of new friends at school through pokemon, taped over all of my dad's star trek episodes with pokemon... my parents hate the japanese now. lol i still have my gameboy and yellow, sadly i lost my red version.... oh well.

I too started with Pokemon Yellow, which arrived about half way through the year 2000 here in Europe, and Brock still brings back some nightmares.

Let's just say it took me a while to get to grips with the Pokemon games, and it took me an eternity to finally defeat Brock. It's hard to get a sense of typing effectiveness when most Pokemon moves are, at this point, electricity and normal type moves. I could do little but sit back, repeatedly smash into that Onyx with Quick Attack and wait for it all to be over swiftly.

Tyewatson November 6th, 2011 6:26 AM

I've been playing since 1999 as well! I had Pokémon Yellow, I remember when Pikachu ran out of PP I would restart the game because I thought you couldn't get that back... It is a face palm moment now... I never beat the game however I still own my original copy! :3 I should sit down and play through it when I get a chance!

Yingxue November 8th, 2011 6:49 PM

I can't remember exactly when I started playing, it was sometime when I was in Kindergarten. My brother bought Blue and Red version, and I ended up playing them after he beat them.

But I'd always watch him play, and I was so amazed at all the Pokemon. I can still remember the feeling of running into some of them for the very first time.

chella182 November 10th, 2011 6:01 AM

I got my Blue in 1999 (which is when it was released here) :D I was 10 and still in primary school. I didn't complete it legitimately though... I cheated using Missingno. D:

I might play through it again for real one day. Or I might just play FireRed... I'm not sure I could handle the graphics of Blue/Red/Yellow now haha!

gee2k8 November 10th, 2011 6:26 AM

I played it on Xmas day around the first time it was released, i remember seeing it in a games magazine and i couldnt stop reading about it! I was always going to pick Charmander first but i still lost alot of sleep on the build up towards xmas thinking about which starter to pick! I didnt have a gameboy before then so i got my copy of Pokemon Blue and pocket gameboy and all the charging stuff needed for it at xmas. Ahhh the good old days. Oh and btw (if u havent seen my other posts recently) ive picked the game back up recently along with 2 of my mates. I always seem to pull this game back out every couple of years same with final fantasy 7 but thats another story entirely.

Polizard November 10th, 2011 10:47 AM

I am an original on Dec 17 1998 i played my pokemon red and i never looked back i am still playing.

Squirrel November 10th, 2011 12:09 PM

I haven't played this in years D: Oh gosh, I have to now! I'm going to start again :3

blue November 10th, 2011 3:17 PM

Yeeeep, been playing since they were first released, Pokémon Blue <3!

sherreamethyst November 10th, 2011 3:33 PM

Honestly, I don't ever remember NOT playing Pokemon. I've played it for so long, my entire life, that I don't remember when I ever started playing. I would guess that I got my first game Yellow when I was probably 3 or so. Ever since I could pick up a game console and play a game, really. I've been playing since I could remember, so yeahhh....

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ November 13th, 2011 6:08 AM

I started with Blue in either '97 or '98... I know it was before they released Yellow. So I've been with the series since pretty much the start.

(even back then I wished for the ability to play as a girl, lol... that took three or four years for them to figure out :P)

Sandshrew November 29th, 2011 6:35 PM

Heck YES! since I was 6 or 7. :)
People my dad worked with found Pokemon Green (in Japanese) as a PC hack or rom, so I guess I've been playing since 96.
~Shrew

(edit - 1st post in more that 2 years!)

LightOfTruth November 30th, 2011 2:55 AM

I played them when I was young, That was a while ago. Now its better to play Firered or Heartgold, Only the original had the slots and the remake did not :(

Seki November 30th, 2011 4:44 AM

Nope, been playing since 2002. Started with Red.

Conspiracy December 6th, 2011 11:48 AM

I believe I was 8-9 when Red and Blue got released here :) Blue was my first Pokemon game :D

Aw, I remember being really excited when Pokemon Yellow got released. I miss those days.

.:CoralSoda:. December 6th, 2011 3:45 PM

Makes me feel old, but yeah, I still remember putting the cartridge into my gameboy pocket :3. Good times.

Houndoomed December 6th, 2011 4:25 PM

I was ten when they were released, after watching the cartoon before school I was obsessed with it, I went and bought Blue the first day they were released in 1997 (I think) in Australia.

Zeus

Disko_Rock December 6th, 2011 4:29 PM

I know I've been playing since Red and Blue came out cuz I've played them both and Yellow as well. Given the release dates though I'd be 4 which just doesn't seem right so I'm not too sure

Castgurl December 8th, 2011 5:48 AM

I was around 8 or 9 years old back in 97 and started at that year too! :3 It started when my friend let me play Pokemon Red at his house. Then started to watch the show, then finally brought my beloved pokemon blue version. Stopped watching the show around 11 or 12, but kept on playing the games. :)

Jarred0809 December 8th, 2011 3:40 PM

I started the anime in 1999 when my parents decided that Pokemon looked like a good show for a 3-year-old. Then when I was 6 I bought my friend's copy of Red to play on my Dad's game boy.

Sector December 8th, 2011 4:51 PM

I've watched the Anime first before playing..

But I played Red/Blue a year after they came out. I was way into Mario games prior to that

Sheep December 8th, 2011 4:58 PM

I've been playing since late '97 or early '98; that won't change anytime soon! (:

Weber December 9th, 2011 8:13 PM

i've been playing since the beginning, stopped for a while before emerald came out and then got back into 6 months after platinum came out, and i still love the series and can see myself still playing for many years to come.

(also picked up emerald and fire red later on)

rocky505 December 9th, 2011 9:46 PM

Been playing since day 1. Pokemon Blue and Squirtle FTW!

Keyaki December 10th, 2011 7:28 PM

Started in '99- '00. Haven't stopped.

Tsutarja December 10th, 2011 7:34 PM

I first touched my brother's Yellow version back in like 1999 or so when I had no idea what Pokemon even was, because all I did when i touched it was just move Red around with the controls xD and got confused why the colors changed ;;

It wasnt until 2001 that I touched Gold version, officially as mine (and not my brother's)!, and he and I started our journeys at the same exact time.. he had Silver while I had Gold, and from then, I began to play the games as a regular.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ December 12th, 2011 2:22 PM

For the U.S people that said that they played an American copy of these two games in 1997 is lying because it came out in 1998 of September.

Anyways, I've been playing the games since the beginning and until this day, I am still a hardcore fan.

:t354:TG

Vena Sera December 12th, 2011 9:41 PM

Same here, I got Red right when It came out with my Gameboy Color, and the world was changed. Had every incarnation of the Pokemon franchise and every Gameboy incarnation since.

pokestall December 16th, 2011 7:42 AM

Heck yes

Yes! I was in 4th grade when the my older brother got Red and then we started collecting the cards (which I still have!). I would play his until one year I got a gameboy pocket and Yellow for christmas. After a few years though I sold my gameboy and games to buy a playstation 2, what a waste! Then in highschool I bought a gameboy color and pokemon red off ebay and me and my best friend who had Blue were determined to catch them all! We got one away then he accidently evolved his Omanyte before trading first...Big mistake. In retaliation I "accidently" evolved my Kabuto without trading so neither one of use could complete our pokedex. 5 years later I find yellow on ebay and decide to finish my pokedex. Let me tell you it feels good! Now I just need a gameboy printer to print my certificate, frame it, and put it on the wall next to my diplomas!

So in short. Yes, I am married with a daughter and I still play pokemon Red and Yellow on my Gameboy Color and it brings me much joy!

I never played any other generations though. Maybe I will now that my pokedex is full. Any suggestions? How are Gold and Silver?

Sounds just like my story, but if you like that play Fire red on GBA or DSlite and it will blow your mind.

Ratty524 December 16th, 2011 3:45 PM

At the time it was released, I initially didn't like Pokemon because my sister thought they looked stupid (I was a follower), then she caught on to it and I followed it too. Since then, I became a Poke-addict, then I quit playing right around the time the 3rd Gen was going to be released because I thought it was associated with Satanism.

Years later, once my senses became clear, I saw my sister playing Platinum and I wanted to beat her in a Pokemon battle, so I got HG/SS and I've returned to my fandom of the franchise. :D

SyngthaSuyeon December 17th, 2011 1:03 PM

I used to have all 3 of the first gen when they first came out. Lost Blue when I lost my purple Gameboy color, but to this day, I still have Red and Yellow, Gold, Crystal (Gold and Crystal's batteries are dead tho), Sapphire (I think the battery is dead for that one too), I think I still have Snap, and Stadium 2. Since I - to this day - have never gotten a DS/DSi/3DS, all my games are played via emulator. I liked the remakes of GSCRBG, meh about DPPt, and ♥ BW.

XDragonRiderX December 24th, 2011 10:06 PM

I started in 2006, my brother started in 2001.

O'Keafe December 26th, 2011 3:11 AM

I guess sometime around '97, a little more maybe. My first game was Pokemon Blue, which I got it from my cousin who finished it first. Yellow, Gold, Silver, etc proceeded. Great years.

Gamerboy7991 December 27th, 2011 10:23 PM

I was born in that year :P

Meganium December 27th, 2011 11:27 PM

Been playing since 98, actually. My first game was Red, and I still adore that game ever since. Then it was Silver, Gold, and so on. :3

Mr Cat Dog December 28th, 2011 9:39 AM

I've been playing since Red and Blue came out in the UK, which I believe was 1998. I can even remember my parents buying one copy of each for my brother and I, which is unusual as I normally can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning! (Although I think I was being a petulant 8-year-old and acting with seething jealousy that my brother was going to have Pokemon as well as me. That's probably why it's stuck with me.)

tminus89 December 29th, 2011 9:59 PM

Hmmm, I could have sworn it came out earlier than that... but if it was in '97 then yup, I'm with you on that. I'm 22 right now and have played pokemon since it first came out. I'll never forget my Pokemon Red Version... I remember I had a problem if you saved the game where you cut a tree and turned it off then turned it on, you sometimes were stuck in that spot because the tree grew back... And I think it was also in Pokemon Red where if you use cut in front of grass, it would cut a small square of grass...

Good times, strong pokemon.

Razer302 December 29th, 2011 10:09 PM

I got red for Christmas the first year it came out. Since then I have bought every single pokemon game and I don't regret any of them. All of the games are great and now I play hacks and things making the game even more fun.

Dragon Tamer Dray January 3rd, 2012 9:58 AM

Got pokemon red for my Birthday in 98, and I never looked back! I was turning 7 years old were the good ol days go?

MissDigitalis January 3rd, 2012 11:01 AM

Yep another old timer here. ^_^

shininglatios217 January 3rd, 2012 3:10 PM

Not exactly a player here, but I've been a fan since '97, too

vaporeon7 January 3rd, 2012 4:27 PM

Nope, I was only 1 year old then. Ever since 2000 though.

Seki January 3rd, 2012 11:30 PM

I was born that year. But I have been playing ever since 2002 or something like that. First game was a Red Version.
Those fun times when Psychic Pokemon and Snorlax was god...

FinShaggy January 5th, 2012 12:55 AM

I thought the game came out before that...
But yeah, been playin since year 1.

Still got my friends Blue version :D

HaloSonic January 8th, 2012 1:41 PM

nah, but I was introduced to it in '98 by my cousin.

Kotowari January 8th, 2012 2:26 PM

I was introduced to it back in '98-'99 (don't remember exactly) by a friend of mine. I do remember though, that I played Pokémon Red on rom long before I got my Gameboy colour in April 2002. I even got a half translated rom of Pokémon Silver. |D Waninoko used [insert gibberish]

Mdash2011 January 8th, 2012 9:59 PM

I remember the first time I played Pokemon was in '99, I believe, making me 6 at the time. The game I played was Red and then went on to get Blue then Yellow, not too long afterwards. What a great Christmas that was, to wake up to a Gameboy Pocket with Pokemon Red. WOW!
I've played games up as far as Emerald, but no further. R/S/E ruined the run of great games as far as I'm concerned.
I'd rather stick with the oldies, that I know are going to be great, and with the GB/GBA hacks.

~Red January 9th, 2012 1:45 AM

I cannot remember exactly but I do know that it was my friend Chelsea who introduced me to Pokemon Red. I remember Pokemon Gold being released so it wasn't that long after the release of Red and Blue :)

TheRedeemed January 9th, 2012 2:56 AM

Oldschool PKMN player right here, was raised on the stuff. :P

Shijo January 9th, 2012 3:12 AM

i played pokemon blue when i was 8 years.... so i played in the 97, i remember that the anime wasn't released yet, at least in mexico, and there were a lot of commercials of the game in the tv

MegamanC January 10th, 2012 12:21 AM

I got my First Pokemon Game in Christmas of '98.
Year before that I had gotten my red Gameboy Pocket (Kinda wished I had kept) for Christmas.

I then got Gold Version when my Brother, sent it to me as a Birthday Present.

After a long break, I picked up Emerald in 2007 with my Gameboy Micro.

After that went to Pearl.

And now 2011, I have Pokemon Black on my 3DS.

What a nice timeline.

morrison January 13th, 2012 8:31 AM

I first saw it in school in 98 (i was in year 7 or 8)I think Everyone was out on their gameboys playing it- I bought it later that year, one on a holiday trip to denmark had Pokémon red and I tried it(got lost in mt moon) lol and when i came home I bought myself the blue version. my best friend had the red version but she never came around to trade her Pokémon with mine duh.
So I'd say it is still oldtimey enough. not long after the gold and silver roms came about(well came out in a symbols/english remix ;) ) Bought the Pokémon silver a day before it was officially released , which meant I didnt have money any more for the birthday present for my parents (whose birthday was 1 and 2 days after respectively) lol
they were not happy....
Anyway. thats how it went ;) (my mother confiscated the gameboy for half a year or so...)
my grand ma bought me a gameboy color(it was drastically reduced in a shop near hers, it only costed 50 DM the equivalent of what would have been 25 € which is now the equivalent of 30$ about. (also got pokemon tcg from some boys who were selling some of their stuff in the shopping centre.)
I bought crystal myself when it came out, and subsequently sapphire(although a bit later than its release date didnt have money on hand then) and sometime I sold my sapphire to play emerald (I liked sapphire better in the end.) (yeah - I also played sapphire in english jap symbol version before it came out. ) Next one was diamond, soulsilver, and black.
(I also had a firered version , but what I didnt know when I boguht it it was still the times when there were probably more bootlegs on ebay than real ones. only saw it when it came that it didnt look like the real thing- i played through it, but the battery fainted soem time after I finished.
(wasnt ready in the shops anymore by the time got it)
Somewhen along hte way(about time of sapphire or so)Got myself a Pokémon green (japanese original) and red version from the flea market which was at the japanese school which is in my area.

Also played lots of G/S /rb hacks in the time . and some ruby ones too but never as mucn as the G/S hacks <3

Nick January 21st, 2012 5:37 PM

September 30, 1998 here. On the exact date, I got the game. I got Pokémon Red version if I can remember correctly. Maybe I got Blue, I'm not sure. I have them all now and the people who got it for me are not around to ask. I just know that I chose Charmander as my starter. I didn't really become a mega-fan until Yellow came out, which became (and still is to this day) my favorite Pokémon game. Needless to say, if I'm being 100% honest, the fact that I got it since it came out in America, it kind of makes me feel just a liiiittle bit superior to those who were introduced to the games in later generations.

Pigeonrh January 26th, 2012 5:48 AM

Got my Blue version in 97 as well, when I was 11.
I actually got my game and gameboy color at the same time cause I wasn't in to gaming until Pokemon lol Once I got in the car I picked Charmander and named it Char lol Still have the same gameboy but now the sound doesn't work!

Mothman~ January 26th, 2012 10:53 AM

I live in West Virginia, and in the late '90s, trends caught on here later than most. Two years after its initial release, everybody at school had it. I received Pokemon Blue Version and a green Game Boy Color for my birthday in 1999. That was the only video game I received for my birthday, but I didn't care. It was awesome. :)

Jellicent♀ January 26th, 2012 5:15 PM

I started playing when the Gold and Silver version came out, so whenever that was (1999?) All I know is that I had just turned five years old and it was a gift from Santa, and it was the most amazing thing ever. I didn't even know Pokemon existed until that moment.

Dave_ January 26th, 2012 5:23 PM

I got Blue and started with a squirtle I reckon i could still remmeber my final pokemon league team...

Blastiose, Pidgeot, Articuno, Lapras, Flareon and I want to say.. Gyrados..?
Cant remember my 6th D=
I do remember having a golbat and omastar at some stage and a ditto, then mewtwo aswell I picked the pokemon based on their 'coolness' at 6/7 years old i think i did a pretty good job :3

Blastoise was jsut a tank and pretty much one hit his way through the elite 4 ha
and I remember giving eevee a fire stone as soon as I got it so it had a pretty dismal move list ...

XEL January 26th, 2012 5:51 PM

You've got an old-timer here ;)

Started with Blue in 1998. Skipped over Gen II completely. Got Ruby and Emerald don't know when. Diamond in '08. Black this here.

I was the last one of my group of friends to get a Pokemon game, back in 1998. I bought Blue version because everyone else had Red. They used to mock me, as I was the odd one out. Of course, that only lasted until they found out they had to trade to complete their pokedex.

I bought Gold version in 2000, then bought Emerald and LeafGreen in a used game store in 2007, and played them nonstop along with Advance Wars.

Never touched the DS games, as I never got a DS, but that might change soon...

I'm somewhat ashamed to say that although I have been a huge fan most of my life, I never got any games till I discovered emultion totaly by accident in 2005 and downloaded a Pokemon Sapphire ROM to my school's comp.... Since then I've been able to play most of the games, save gen IV upwards. Gotta say that the secong gen will always be my favorite as I grew up dreaming and wishing for it so long... Hehe yeah I know I'm crazy...

I still play Crystal, if that counts.

DrFuji February 12th, 2012 4:14 PM

I started playing Pokemon Blue way back in December 1998, or at least that's when my friend got it and let me take a turn every now and then so I guess you could say I was around from the beginning. I didn't own a Pokemon game of my very own until Pokemon Yellow was released in Australia just under a year later. My little five year old-self had no idea how big Pokemon would get due to the late 90's popularity explosion, but he was very happy that it happened.

I was BORN in '97!! :P But if i could, I would've started playing RIGHT when i was born!! :D

Raichupacabra February 16th, 2012 9:34 PM

I was not even a year old so no but I remember in 2001 for my birthday I got Red and Yellow, and Pokemon Stadium. Then on Christmas I got Gold and Crystal and Stadium 2. The good old days.

Playing in 2012, on a GameBoy Color emulator I coded myself. :I

Kano Shuuya February 17th, 2012 12:45 AM

I didn't start playing until 1999, because I was one of the people who was late to getting the games. ;w; I watched the anime starting in 1998, but if memory serves, Yellow version was out before I ever even got to own Blue, albeit it was when Yellow was brand-spankin' new.

Ostrich February 17th, 2012 2:56 PM

I got a Gameboy Advance when I was about about 6 (2000). I remember getting Pokemon Blue and some other games from a place called MC Toys or something. I think it's out of business now, but they had a huge bin of GBA games.

Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa

Snatched a copy of Blue on the week of the American release, mirroring my brother's copy of Red he had gotten a few days prior. My memories are all really splotchy when it comes to the years before GSC seeing as I was only four at the time and couldn't even read yet. :cer_confused:

Remember the days where we would actually discover things on our own, without media spoilers? It was always so exciting back then...

Joined in 1998 with BLUE. Then, as soon as released: Gold, Sapphire, Fire Red, Diamond. Last year my bro and me decided to make a "Pkmn Year" so we got/played/replayed: White/Black (me/bro), SS/HG, Platinum/Pearl, White/Black (we actually both have both versions... with 2 Mewtwos each of us ;)

Took me hours to find out that you could use moves on the field (HM01 Cut), so got stuck after defeating Lt.Surge!! LOL

Tachikaze February 24th, 2012 10:36 PM

I know I got mine for Christmas, but I don't remember if it was 1997 or 1998. I know for sure that I got Red with my new teal Gameboy Color, is all. XD

PaperNapkin February 25th, 2012 2:03 AM

Good to know that I am not the only one who was around when Pokemon was released.

I remember picking Bulbasaur as my starter in 97 after reading up on the three starters in Nintendo Power. I'll never forget that feeling of being the first kid in my elementary school to own/know what Pokemon was all about.

Ohhhh nostalgia, how I love to reminisce.

3Du February 25th, 2012 5:59 AM

So true. Each generation is a pleasent experience (althoug Ruby/Sapphire really didn't appeal much to me) but NOTHING compared to the first experience. I remember being 12 and when I discovered DIG I was like "Wow, you can't attack me one turn. Then, I attack you. Awesome".

Then, the first time ever to ride the bike (insert bike tune), each Rival appearance, and what's this pokemon at the end of Cerulean Cave??

arbok February 26th, 2012 4:53 AM

I never owned Blue, Red or Yellow untill later but I played my friends versions a lot. Then I got Silver as my first when it was released. I was too young to care about type match ups back then and never switched my Feraligater from the front of my party :D it was a power house.

dash! February 28th, 2012 6:15 PM

I don't remember the year, but I know I've been playing since before GenII, I'm pretty sure.

I'd been playing since I was young enough the run around the house with my siblings and pretend we were Pokemon and battle each other, jumping all over the couches, breaking glasses, and pissing our parents off. Good old days.

Xavier_PokeNation February 29th, 2012 6:29 AM

I'm not sure about the year but I played Pokemon Blue on the old Gameboy brick, stopped playing pokemon on device after emerald.

Bika March 3rd, 2012 8:47 PM

I got Red when I was 6. I can't remember when Red came out but I definitely got it in it's early years.

Seki March 4th, 2012 4:41 AM

I can't play it during '97, since I am born that year, silly. I don't remember the year I started, but I played Pokemon Red first on my old yellow Gameboy colour. Never stopped since.

Treecko March 4th, 2012 11:37 PM

I started playing Pokemon around 1998 or 1999, I think it was summer or spring so probably 99 . I was either 6 or 7 depending on the day I bought the game.

Dartht33bagger March 8th, 2012 2:11 PM

I got my blue version about 3 months after the games came out here in America. So some time in 1998 I believe.

Cloyster93 April 1st, 2012 10:46 AM

I got my Blue version about a month or two after it was released...

Then when Yellow came out, I got it within a week...

I bought Gold about a week after release, and when Crystal was released, I bought it on the day.

After that, I got LeafGreen a month after release and didn't buy another Pokémon game until SoulSilver, since I don't like Gen IV or V.
