Underrated Unova Pokemon?

For me Stoutland is an underrated Pokemon. It does not get much attention, but its Attack is worth mentioning. It is like the Gen III Snorlax of UU.

I actually have an Adamant Stoutland, so I'm sure you can imagine what it's attack stat has to be like. lol

I agree, Stoutland is definitely one of them. I haven't perused the Black & White threads in a while, but I'd have to say that Gigalith is another, which I also have on my Black team.

Good for you to have Adamant. I have a Modest one, and still its sweeping like there is no tomorrow.

Another Pokemon that comes to my mind is Braviary. First time I saw one, I was like , "OMG! This is gonna be OU!"

Pokemon Trainer Touko November 21st, 2011 1:52 AM

Swanna is kiinda underrated D: Not many people uses it.. except for Skyla ;A;

Hikamaru November 21st, 2011 2:04 AM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this guy...

http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/121/7/1/elgyem__the_alien_poke__mon_by_celestialien86-d3fcoy9.png

It's cute but most people think it sucks compared to Gothitelle and especially Reuniclus.

I still have room in my heart for Elgyem, it's cute and it's great to use if you get a Special Attack-raising nature.

Even my Pokemon walkthrough idol, Marriland uses one!

Celestial Daze November 21st, 2011 2:19 AM

Well, I think that Yamask/Cofagrigus is underrated too, although it is one of the few ghosts you can get in-game, due to most of its moves being Ghost Type leaving only a few of other types, working with him gets hard,as most Pokemon have neutral effect to Ghost or are Normal type ...
Plus it makes it hard to defend itself if needed

Oh yes, you're talking about the shallow movepool and incredibly slow Ghost-type known as Yamask and Cofagrigus.

I have caught one but never use it despite mine having a Timid nature (which boosts Speed a little but sadly still won't fix that Speed problem).

miltankRancher November 21st, 2011 2:42 AM

i forgot to mention this guy.

With the proper set, Scolipede can pretty much sweep, especially with Steamroller and Venoshock. Plus, it has a great design too. Sucks about the typing though.

Melinda November 21st, 2011 3:32 AM

I think Scolipede is definitely underrated.

It's helped me the most in my random match wifi battles, but not many people use it. Such a shame.

Celestial Daze November 21st, 2011 7:25 AM

Purrloin/Liepard are also underrated.
Like most derps they are only used in the beginning, and are soon dumped on a box ...

I also agree with you on this one

Scrafty is also kind of underrated, not that many people use it

Which is kind of a shame,as it is a very useful fighting-type,or dark-type even.

Mr Cat Dog November 21st, 2011 10:09 AM

I don't hear anyone talk about Krookodile, and yet it gets so much love from me that it's unreal. It's quick and strong, has a really cool design, and has some really good moves and typing. It's a wonder people don't talk about it more, to be honest.

Yoshikko November 21st, 2011 10:21 AM

Definitely agree on Scolipede, tbh it was one of the only gen V Pokémon I really really liked at first.

And well, PLENTY of people use Scrafty, competitively at least. Scrafty really isn't underrated, I see lots of people use it and it kicks ass.

Killjoy November 21st, 2011 10:42 AM

Yep, I really agree with Sawk, and Scolipede, both really fun to use, and helped me a lot!

Ephemeral Euphoria November 21st, 2011 11:11 AM

I'd have to say Carracosta due to how many times it's saved my ass with Shell Smash and a rather nice movepool to go with it. Went with Crunch, Stone Edge, and Surf to accompany Shell Smash by the time I faced the E4 and it cleaned house when given the opportunity.

I agree that Scolipede is very underrated because while 90 Attack isn't bad, it isn't very good either. Also, it can sweep better with Megahorn/Earthquake/Rock Slide/Swords Dance. It can also use Baton Pass to pass on Swords Dance, Agility or Iron Defense (the latter won't see much use, though). However, because of its poor Special Attack, it can't utilize Venoshock well (plus, it's a rather gimmicky move).

Houndoomed November 21st, 2011 4:51 PM

Krookodile and Gigalith are underated in my opinion

I think you should take a look at Sawsbuck.

It changes with the seasons but so few people use it.

It's a great physical attacker especially with a Return/Horn Leech/Megahorn combo.

Sawsbuck may have 6 weaknesses but a great Attack stat to have those Physical attacks hit hard! Plus it can learn Jump Kick.

I use a Sawsbuck in Black and she did well against the Driftveil Gym. I still cherish my Sawsbuck a lot.

TheGr8 November 21st, 2011 10:31 PM

I would say an underrated pokemon in Unova would have to be Carracosta, with access to shell smash, and being able to have rock slide/aqua jet and getting STAB with both. It's a very good poke that I've seen some people use and I think it's underrated because of it's 4x to Grass. Another one would be Eelektross, I don't know if he's underrated but I love using it and don't see them around too much.

Ho-Oh November 22nd, 2011 7:49 AM

...beware, totally from a competitive POV and not entirely in-game since I haven't used them there. XD

God yes. I think if it got a better speed stat it would definitely be OU, but yeah by the design it looks strong, but nope, looks deceive!

Yeah, currently 41st in usage. It isn't ideal, but it's still ahead of a few other OU Pokemon.

I really think it's due to Tyranitar being used so often that they don't really need another dark type (notice how Hydreigon is lower down too?), whereas for fighting they have the common Terrakion at #13. Scrafty is definitely good, but yeah not completely down and out, nor underrated. :x

Despite being RU, it still is used occasionally in OU (aka sun teams due to chlorophyll, and it can also fit into ice too apparently), but tbh with speed that isn't that bad and the attack stat being pretty good (plus access to Horn Leech), actually, it outspeeds most of OU which isn't that bad. Sooo yeah, I'd say it's underrated since the few times I've faced it I've had issues.

Oh and agreed on Carracosta.

I have to agree here. A Sword Danced Horn Leech is a pretty awesome move. especially when it used by a Summer Sawsbuck. Too bad it's RU. I think it would blend in perfectly in the OU tier because of the mushrooming number of Sun teams.

Kikaito plush November 22nd, 2011 10:34 AM

Personally I think Leavanny is underrated

Overlord Drakow November 23rd, 2011 3:40 AM

Mandibuzz. It's overlooked but it has a niche in taking on certain special attackers that use the Fighting, Psychic, Ghost, Dark type attacks.

This is my post for the 23rd November, Kaori.
