Idea to play all 5 Regions?

I've always wondered how would everyone loved to play a Pokemon game like this. Play the game A LOT like the journey of Ash. You start in Kanto with the first Start Pokemon and do the story. Each has their newest addition, like FireRed/LeafGreen, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Emerald, Platinum and let's just say Gray. Then after you beat the Elite Fours & Champion Lance, get your Mewtwo, you go to Johto. I would love to play a game to visit Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh & Unova all in one. And facing different Elite Fours/Champions each time. The professor of the region you're leaving gives you the next generation's Pokemon and so on. Unova region will probably be level 100's for the Elite Four/Champion Alder by the time we get there lol

Bad Idea?

Blizz December 7th, 2011 1:33 PM

I have always wanted to go to other regions too in one game. It would be cool to catch all Pokémon in one game pretty easy and travel between regions. But if Unova's trainers has level 100 Pokémon then it would be very slow and boring to train your Pokémon to higher levels.

But I have to say that this is great idea though few bad things.

XEL December 7th, 2011 2:40 PM

^ Like the above poster said, while the idea is cool, leveling might become a problem. They might actually have to bypass the 100 limit as well to keep things interesting.

Two ways I was thinking. Do what Ash does, put the captured Pokemon in the PC and you can only use Pokemon you've caught during your Johto run & before visiting a new region, the professor will grant you one Starter Pokemon before heading to the next region.

OR

Like HeartGold/SoulSilver, Kanto's Gym Leaders are all high levels in the 50's-60's. (Switch Kanto with Johto) Hoenn will have higher, in the 70's or so and there's Sinnoh & Unova for higher leveling, with rematches included. I was also involving each Elite Four for each Regions.

You know, first 4 Elite Four being the original with Blue as Champion, through Johto Blue steps down and you practically rematch Koga, Bruno, and faced the newer Elite Four and face Lance as Champion this time, then face the other Elite Four to face Steven, Cynthia & Alder. I would very much love to face then all in order without switching games lol Red to still be the last strongest trainer?

Team Rocket, Team Magma & Aqua, Team Galactic all to be involved for their specific region would be awesome too.

Disko_Rock December 7th, 2011 3:09 PM

It would be awesome but I think the game would be too long. I mean that's a grand total of 40 badges plus the option of taking the Battle Frontier/Tower/Subway challenges.

I probably would lose interest halfway through and stop playing. Or what about when you've completed and want to try a different route? You would have to do it all all over again D:
It would definitely get monotonous unless they include some way to add a twist to the story. For example, you might have to help Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua/Galatic/Plasma to take down another team whose goals hinder theirs somehow.

Something like that

True, it may be to long. But if you love Pokemon, the more the better isn't it? I can never get tired of it all myself, but maybe this idea is just perfect for me? :(

Battle Frontier/Tower/Subway..well..I don't even know where to begin. I'm sure something would be created, a NEW Battle Zone to combine them but separated into different categories. I don't know..it's complicated for this lol

i always thought about that
Ive been wondering about different save files
you can have 5 different save files, one for each region

shouldn't there be 2 versions?
1st installment should be red, gold, ruby, diamond and black
2nd installment should be blue, silver, sapphire, pearl and white
or one whole version bunched up together using 3rd installments
yellow+, crystal, emerald, platinum, grey?

now the problem is trading.
if the 3rd installment came out, you already got all the pokemon, so theres no use to trade. also, migration. you already got all pokemon too, no use for trading. maybe we should be able to trade with your other save files.

I mean I love the idea of it being more like the anime in that aspect but how would it work? Kanto and Johto are connected so you can just walk/surf across but Hoenn and Sinnoh are far away so a ferry? Isshu/Unova is even further away so maybe an airport? And you land in Mistralthon City? Or maybe another ferry and you end up in Castelia?

It's a plausible idea..just not very profitable. If they do make it sales on the individual games would go down I imagine.

VempireblacK December 7th, 2011 6:02 PM

Ya...I also want to play pkmn games start begin from Kanto...Then Jotho...3th OrangeIsland...Then
Hoenn...5th Sinnoh and end in Unova...Better rock!

Sector December 7th, 2011 6:04 PM

Good idea! Orange Island would be a PERFECT addition!

DarkWolf13 December 7th, 2011 6:08 PM

I like that idea and I think the levels may go like this...
Kanto: Lv 3-55
Johto: Lv 45-65
Hoenn: Lv 50-75
Sinnoh: Lv 60-85
Unova: Lv 70-95

Except that when you start a new region... you'll start fresh but the level starts should be like the lowest level of the 5 regions, except Kanto, whose starters are at Lv 5.

Matter of opinion but good idea or not, it's not going to happen. The Orange Islands (along with many other locations only found in the anime) is, well, anime only, and the games have not based themselves off of the anime since Yellow as Pokemon was at the peak of popularity at the time - ever since they've gone by their own thing. (It's the anime basing itself off of the games anyway). Orange Islands was just made by the anime as filler between the Kanto and Johto series. If Game Freak had wanted to use the Orange Islands at any rate they would have done it in FRLG - but they instead made the Sevii Islands instead.

As for the 'all-the-regions' game, it's a nice idea at first but there's a lot of issues with it. Firstly there's the amount of data you can fit in the game cartridge and as mentioned the level issues (which would likely need a change in game mechanics, maybe to IVs as well, and guess why you couldn't trade between GSC and RS? Potential lack of compatibility is not very fun). Either that or make you start over again in each region, but looking below...

Then there's the business viewpoint - why stuff all the regions into one game which may not work out for various reasons (assuming it's possible) and likely lose sales from other games (why buy the game with a new single region when you have the game with five?) when the current strategy of each generation having one new region max, and the most number of regions in a Pokemon game being two (GSC and their remakes in HGSS) being has made millions of sales every generation? If you want to make a game in which one starts over in each region, or has separate save files, it seems silly to do that instead of split them into separate games and make a lot of money, which is how it is done and has worked very well for Game Freak too.

PikachuGuy December 7th, 2011 8:13 PM

I actually like this idea. As a big Pokemon fan, I personally wouldn't mind playing through all regions in one game. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. Even if it is 40 badges, I'd still have fun! Too bad they most likely won't make a game like this. Cause like mentioned above, it would be a long game to beat. You're talking thousands of trainers, 40 gyms, Battle Frontier in all, and the side requests you get in all games. But I wouldn't mind the time it took, though.

PlatinumDude December 8th, 2011 12:36 AM

Cool concept, but there may be a problem with the leveling as you change regions. You might be overpowered when you reach a new region (like winning the Kanto League with level 50s, then heading off to Johto and the wild Pokemon there being at a low level)

The 100 Mega Shock December 8th, 2011 2:47 AM

Why keep trudging back to the same old places instead of doing something new? We get a remake of an old game every few years alongside brand new games, so what's the fun in one game that would take forever to make and serves as nothing except "Everything is the same as before but crudely stuck together"?

Blaziken15 December 8th, 2011 3:38 AM

I don't see something like this happening until the end of the Pokemon series when they make one super-game where you choose your starting region and go around all of them.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ December 8th, 2011 5:49 AM

How many times has this idea come up...?

I didn't particularly like Hoenn, so no. Replace Hoenn with Orre and we might be talking... except with the level cap issue. 100 levels divided by 5 regions would equal 20 levels per region. Even Johto/Unova, which have the lowest level Elite Fours, still top out at 50. I just don't see how you can cram 8 gyms into the span of 20 experience levels.

And no, I am not going to play a game where I have to start over with an all new team in each region. And as has been said, it doesn't make sense from a financial/business standpoint.

And I'd rather not do anything like Ash. I prefer to be somewhat competent, thank you very much.

Sector December 8th, 2011 5:50 PM

Didn't know the idea of this came up before this thread, Elite Overlord. If it's more than a month ago then I didn't want to risk bringing it back and getting a warning or something..sorry.

pokehearts December 8th, 2011 5:54 PM

It would take WAY to long. Also, has anyone brought into consideration how much data this would be for the poor Devs of this game (IF they made it) If anything, they'd make it DLC or something like that

I think someone already mentioned it would be to much for a game card to handle lol

So from what I can speculate, it's about 50/50 of the Pokemon fans who would like this game and dislike. Not bad. I'd like the idea myself, if it was on PC or on Nintendo, but I was just wanting to receive opinions about this. Lots of advantages/disadvantages that's for sure.

About 30 times, and I'm not exaggerating. This "idea" is basically omnipresent in any pokemon forum I've ever gone to.

That being said, I'll list pros and cons (some are only based on my opinion)

Pros
-Diversity (BIG factor)
-More Game content
-Longer gameplay (could be con, depending on your POV)
-Less grinding towards level 100 (possibly)

Cons
-Reduce sales of other games (possibly)
-Tricky level curve between regions (possibly)
-Space of data available might not accommodate the data needed for this game
-Realistic chance of Game Freak making this sort of game is extremely slim. They would have to implement data worth 5 regions @[email protected] (sort of on hand with 3rd reason)
-Future regions may feel "left out."

I personally think pros outweigh cons, but again, that's my opinion.

cbd98 December 8th, 2011 7:35 PM

They could do this as more of a final shabam thing, like when the company is about go bankrupt.... Wait, they control almost every child 5-9, so that won't happen any time soon.

While I would like this game, its still a 0/100 chance of game freak making it/not making it. The ONLY thing I could see happening was if Game Freak said "okay, we're not making any more games after this (and why would they do that when it makes them so much money)" and decided to go out with a bang.

Still, its not going to happen.

Nina December 8th, 2011 8:09 PM

I would not want a game in which you traveled all regions. It would get too long, it's hard enough for me to finish them as it.

An mmorpg however, would be a perfect setting for an expansive world. : )

I'll go ahead and disagree with that. =p Firstly - Game Freak (and Nintendo) like any gaming company are foremost interested in sales. Something that can affect sales negatively is always a huge point for them. Then there's the reasons like memory, and if one of the cons renders the idea impossible then I'd argue it's always going to be bigger than all of the pros combined.

That, and some of the pros are a bit iffy. What do you mean, for starters, by diversity? And would that overcome any of the cons? For instance, would it attract a significant amount of more people to buying it that otherwise wouldn't buy any of the other games?

Longer gameplay is not much of a concern for Pokemon either given the main quest in itself is pretty long and you have the whole competitive battling aspect, and catching them all if on wants. 649 different critters for people to get is always going to offer a long gameplay. That and I question the importance of 'less grinding' given teams can be auto-scaled on level with wifi battles, so that factor is already diminished compared to previous generations.

Shiny December 8th, 2011 9:07 PM

I imagine that if they did this, it would be if the Pokemon games were coming to a known end and they wanted to release one final game to please people.

Hell I'd love to play it, I think it'd be grouse! ; D

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ December 9th, 2011 5:51 AM

I wouldn't want a game that had all of the regions in it because Game Freak will have to cram so much stuff into one game and it might not have all of the detail stuff in it.

sherreamethyst December 10th, 2011 10:26 AM

Like some people are saying, it would be totally awesome and I have to admit I've thought about it quite a bit myself, but leveling would be a serious problem. I think it would be cool if you were able to transfer your Trainer info and Pokemon to another game, but it reduces the lvls back to 5. That would be just like the anime almost, haha!

Trainer Galza December 11th, 2011 3:52 AM

Kind of in the "would be nice to see but will never happen camp" ..

After crossing into different regions, do you keep your pokemon? Whats there to stop you from using all your uber powered guys from the old region you just came from? Is the lvl cap extended, or is everything else lvling along side you? Would it be possible then, to run into a lvl 100 Pidgey in the wild? Too much content to go through, I fear.

If Gamefreak was to make an MMO, that's probably the only way this idea works. But the idea of a pokemon MMO is a bit dodgey too.. real simple stuff, like how would you handle battles? Can you help your friends in fights? How would you catch a Pokemon? Would it be easy for a player to "kill steal" a Pokemon you wanted? Are the gameboy versions going to be compatible? I mean, there's a lot to think about.

In the end, it's a lot more trouble than it's worth. Which is probably why the only MMO experience is basically dreamworld.

I think it kind of goes against their business model for Pokemon anyway - if there ever was one.

blue December 14th, 2011 5:25 AM

How I wish for this to happen although it's highly unlikely.

Princess Diana December 14th, 2011 7:55 AM

If we ignore the technicalities of the game, it could work. And they could even stick a new region on the end if they pleased. :p

mikey December 17th, 2011 1:58 PM

I never liked the idea of having a game created with all the regions. I feel like it would be rushed and be too long to be honest.

Houndoomed December 17th, 2011 2:10 PM

I would love a super long game that allowed travel between all the regions, they could include all pokemon even event ones hidden in the wild, it would be the ultimate pokedexers dream to be able to obtain all pokemon without trade, evo trade pokemon being the exception.

Zeus

mrpengo88 December 18th, 2011 12:43 PM

I'm thinking a way they could keep leveling interesting is to have you drop off all of your pokemon from the past region in that region's storage box and start a new journey.

Maple Leaf December 18th, 2011 5:51 PM

At first glance, it's a decent idea, but it would be way too long. Of course, if you stay dedicated throughout, completion would be achievable for sure. Then there's the leveling issue. I highly doubt they would change the maximum level of 100.

Without looking at the cons, I'd certainly want it. Then after I look at them, I have no idea who
would want the game.

No, no, and no. If they did something like this, then it would be a definite no-buy for me. I'm not going to buy a game that forces me to ditch my Pokemon every new region. That wouldn't be any different than just playing the games on different cartridges.

Besides, that's what a certain idiot from the anime does, and I don't want to follow suit.

I've still never liked the idea of cramming the regions into one game, level scaling issue or not. It would involve too much play time and force me to replay the hellhole/wasteland called Hoenn.

miju-kun December 19th, 2011 6:24 PM

Nope. Why? There are some reasons.

1. Gameplay- Sure, I like long games but this one..it's just too much.
2. Ditching Pokémon- No. I worked very hard to train them and now I get this as my reward? No.
3. Boring- At first sight, I'd be like; "OMG I LOVE THIS GAME AAAH!" but after a while, I'd get bored of it. That's why I hate extremely long games....unless if it has something interesting every stage--whatsoever.
4. Overpower- If you don't ditch your Pokémon, you'd be a GOD in the next region which is just...wrong.

Well, most have been mentioned lol. Overall, I wouldn't buy this game.

LDBxEcho December 21st, 2013 1:45 AM

I think the game should be put on console, on a master disc sort of, and have a plot line other then go to a region, fight gym leaders, beat Elite 4, done. Or instead of an Elite 4 have something like the show with a tournament. For leveling, have like the levels of your Pokemon reset to like 25 or something, but they retain their moves. Like for Kanto and Johto have go up to however high it can be, but after that it gets bonked down, but their power remains the same. The best example I can put is like sports games transitioning from college to pro you might be a star player in college and have a rating of 90ish, but when you get to pro it goes down because you're on a higher playing field, have it something like that with when you go to Hoenn, Shinoh, etc. Like have it be like Ash's Pikachu, should be a god by now but can still get beat

BadPokemon December 21st, 2013 7:11 AM

What if it is just a much bigger region. Have 12 gyms, more cities, higher level elite four. New starters would be great. Include 2 new legendaries along with old ones. More places to explore than usual. A lot of after game gameplay. Friend safaris, battle maison, more content. They could add dlc with some new stuff, too. I also would like a starter that looks cool and cutish in the final form. Delphox and final form of cheap in were ok. Greninja was awesome.
