Well, since Ursaring can learn Crunch (which is pretty useful against ghost), the move is a must on Pangoro. Having in mind the new Dark-type moves to be released, it also could learn Taunt, Payback, and Pursuit. Sucker punch would be awesome, but I'm not sure about that because Houndoom has the attack and Scrafty would pay thousands in order to have it. Hone Claws would help to get attack and accuracy boost to the fist-based attacks like DynamicPunch.

Your partners: Shades the Krookodile and Mr. Shadow the Zoroark What Types rule: Dark and Grass obviously. Answer the current topic: Pangoro would probably get like... Bite, Mach Punch. Maybe Aura Sphere? Maybe some kind of grass type move like razor leaf because of that leaf he has in his mouth? He could maybe learn the elemental punches AND biting attacks? |

As for moves Pangoro may learn, I would agree with most of Esoj's post there. Taunt seems like a staple in most Dark movesets, same with Torment. Crunch is also a possibility, like what Esoj also mentioned but also I think Foul Play came into my mind, because it's based around the Dark-type's usual "dirty fighting" trick and given Pancham's Japanese species name is the Naughty Pokemon it seems fitting Pangoro gets it. I'd also hope it gets some of the new Dark attacks 6th Gen introduces. |
Yeah, gen 5 has so much variety with dark types! A flying/dark, a ground/dark, a fighting/dark, a steel/dark and a dragon/dark! I love gen 5 for giving so much variety in dark type pokemon. :3

Which Generation of Pokemon do you think introduced the best Dark types so far?
In my opinion, gen 3 introduced the best dark types. I LOVE Absol, Shiftry and Sharpedo. They have such good concepts and designs... |
Which Generation of Pokemon do you think introduced the best Dark types so far?
5th Gen for sure, I mean look at the fun type combinations they brought out like Dark/Dragon, Dark/Fighting and Ground/Dark. The Deino, Scraggy and Sandile lines also had some fun themes going for them, like the latter two lines being based on criminal stereotypes (which has been some thing going for a few Dark-types) and the Deino line's members all being named after the German names for one, two and three, each corresponding to the number of heads they have, Deino (one), Zweilous (two) and Hydreigon (three). |
Gen 3 FTW!!! Most of my favorite dark types were introduced in that gen including Absol, Sharpedo and, of course, Mightyena ;)
|
Gen 2! Murkrow, Sneasel, Houndoom, Tyranitar and Umbreon are all great pokemon. Not to rain on gen 3 and 5's parades, they introduced some cool ones too.
The only bad thing, is that originally in gen 2, you couldn't get most of the dark types until so late in the game! That was a lame move by Gamefreak. |
Which Generation of Pokemon do you think introduced the best Dark types so far?
Its hard to choose actually. I'd say a tie between Generation 2 and 3. They both brought out some great dark-types, that really had a menacing look and were fun to use. Absol, Tyranitar, Umbreon, the list goes on and on of how many powerhouses they brought in. Plus they all fitted the typing perfectly and I loved all of the unique designs thrown out there. While Gen 5 arguably had some creative ideas, it didn't make it across the line for me. I really like all of the dark-types in Gen 3 though, gotta say. |
Which Generation of Pokemon do you think introduced the best Dark types so far?
I agree with hikari10. I believe the best dark types are in gen 5 my favorite pokemon from unova is Zoroark and I use hydreigon in my team. There is also bisharp the steel/dark type. Gen 5 introduced new combinations not seen before and I hope gen 6 does too :) |
I agree with Hikari. The 5th gen launched interesting pokes with different types, giving to the Dark-type different flavors. Great concepts and nice designs, they were more open with the Dark-type in this generation. Also, the 3rd gen did well by introducing pure Dark-type pokes like Absol and Mightyena as well as different types combinations like dark/water, dark/grass, and the almost unbeatable dark/ghost.

What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: They're pretty solid overall, and many are really cool looking. Your partners: Umbreon and Absol What Types rule: Dark and Water types! Ghost is cool too, especially when paired with Dark, because it negates all weaknesses. Answer the current topic: I think Pancham is going to be a physical attack Pokemon, with average defenses and below average speed. That being said, I'd say Beat Up is a strong possibility, along with Feint Attack and possibly Pursuit. I wouldn't rule out Taunt and/ or Torment either. For Fighting type moves, I'm going to guess Force Palm, Karate Chop, and Close Combat. I have no doubt in my mind that it will favor physical moves over special ones. |

I'm gonna answer the topic myself now haha. I think 5th Generation has a lot of unique Dark types; Dark/Fighting , Ground/Dark, Dark/Dragon , Dark/Steel. And it some of my favorites too; Scraggy/Scrafty, Deino's family, Sandile's family (especially Krookodile!) , Pawniard's family and Zorua/Zoroark. So I definitely agree it introduced the best ones so far. After that I'd say Gen III. Mainly because I'm pretty bias towards Gen III, but also cause there's some really good looking ones such as Absol, Shiftry and Mightyena. |
Hey there guys! Got a little bit of news regarding X/Y but, not Dark types directly. On youtube I am subscribed to a user who posted a video of some Pokemon that may be appearing in X and Y that he got from a trustworthy source. Believe them or not , that is up to you, but, I think that it could be true since I've been subscribed to the user for a while and because of all the "precautions" that he took.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GA6gw-Yu6ME There's the link. Have fun and let the speculation begin! And to answer the current topic...Gen V had the best Dark types, and the most. We got Hydreigon, a new type combo, the pseudo legendary of Gen V, and it's just plain powerful. Zoroark, powerful, unique ability, and can also be seen as a pseudo legendary. Then we got awesome type combos from Scrafty, Krookodile, and Bisharp, and another really cool and unique Dark/Flying type. Overall, Gen V was the best for Dark types so far, with Gen II right behind it. I mean, without Gen II there wouldn't be Dark types, plus in Gen II we got Umbreon and Tyranitar, two of the best Dark types. Gen III follows II with great Pokemon like Absol, Shiftry, and Mightyena, and Gen IV in last sadly. Or, I guess Gen I last since it had no Dark types lol. |

Yeah I think it's best to wait till it's confirmed true. That applies to any information either real , leaked or rumors. I'm all for speculating what kind of Dark types we may get in X and Y, but I think it's easier to post all rumors in the X and Y forum unless it's directly about possible Dark types. That said we can speculate on what kind of Dark types we may get in X and Y. There's a rumors thread in the X and Y forum, try finding it and posting it there. :3 I'm just not really sure about discussing leaked info and usually take that stuff with a grain of salt either way.

Which of the 3 (main game) Dark type specialists do/did you find the hardest to defeat?
Karen for sure, mainly because her team is not just Dark-types, she carries a few Poison-type Pokemon as well mainly due to the lack of Dark-types present in Johto. It meant we had to take along a Psychic-type to take out some of her team and she has annoying strategies. But Grimsley on the other hand does have strong Pokemon but they fall easily to Fighting attacks. |
Which of the 3 (main game) Dark type specialists do/did you find the hardest to defeat?
To be completely honest, I haven't faced Sidney or Grimsley, since I haven't gotten up to that point in the respective games. I have battled with Karen though so I'll just give my quick opinion on her. I really like Karen. She's a great Elite Four member and her quotes are mesmerising, especially her ones on strong and weak pokemon. She's not all looks and quotes though, I have to say she was quite challenging. Her team is extremely fast and there's loads of types in there, rather than the general 'dark-type only' Pokemon. She had Houndooms, Honchkrows, Weaviles, all sorts of things running around that can cause serious damage to unprepared teams. Not to mention that my Pokemon were rather underlevelled. To be honest, I would of never scraped through that battle, had it not been for Heracross. Overall though, I really find Karen quite challenging if I don't train up for her. |
Which of the 3 (main game) Dark type specialists do/did you find the hardest to defeat?
Grimsley was the toughest one for me, though my favorite is Karen. Grimsley's Bsharp did a nice job making short work of my team the first time I played Black. His Krookodile isn't to be trifled with either. Sydney I found rather easy, as much as I loved his mohawk. My Blaziken made quick work of his entire team without much resistance. Karen was somewhat challenging as a kid with her diverse team, but the levels of her Pokeon are so low that they not as threatening as the others. HG/SS remedied this somewhat however. |

What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: Your partners: Sharpedo, Tyranitar What Types rule: Dark-types rule Answer the current topic: I didn't find any of them difficult, though Karen is the last E4 before you face Lance so I'd pick that. |
To answer the current topic, I honestly think that Karen was the hardest. The HG/SS Karen. In those games, getting levels was harder than in the 5th Generation games. Not to mention, her Vileplume was very difficult. I had gotten beaten by her and made to restart the Elite 4 at least 3 times. Karen was the hardest. Grimsley is definitley the runner up though. His Pokemon are high leveled, and thanks to dual typing, it is pretty diverse. And, since I try to use Dark types exclusively, made for an interesting battle between two Dark type Masters :P
I also just recently had a thought regarding Pangoros moveset. Considering he has these massive fists, it would sort of make sense for him to get the elemental punches. Maybe not all at the same time like Hitmonchan, but, maybe a little more spread out. |
In the current topic, I think Grimsley (B/W not B2/W2) was the hardest. Especially when you beat all of them and then he sends out his Bisharp. He beat me a few times so I had to catch a fighting Pokemon and train it just to beat him... And also his Liepard that always uses fake out whenever he sends it out. Karen wasn't that hard, the only Pokemon that gave me trouble was her Houndoom with Flamethrower. Sidney wasn't that hard if you brought a fighting Pokemon which a lot of people did due to Blaziken's type. So yeah, I think Grimsley was the hardest.
|
Current Topic: I think the hardest dark type specialist to beat was Sidney because at that time I really didnt train my pokemon as much as I do now. I now try to always be at high levels compare to opponents.
|
To answer the current topic, I consider Karen most difficult of the three. The other two you can battle first and so gives you time to prepare for them but Karen is far in the ranks of elite four and by then my team is already beaten out from all the previous battles. To add here difficult, she isn't using monotype Dark team.
|
So what does everyone think of the MegaPokemon? Specifically, MegaAbsol?
|
To answer the question^ I think they are awesome. I don't know what people are worried about? I don't think this is a big enough a change to redefine pokemon since these are technically like the form changes that was supposedly exclusive to Deoxys during Generation 3 before Giratina and Shaymin got theirs.
Anyway, Can I add a topic: Mega-Evolutions have been confirmed. With Absol gaining an "evolution" of some sort, what other Dark-types do you think will get a "mega" change? I think Mightyena should get a mega evolution, it needs the buff. If absol gets to get one, why not Mightyena? Other Pokemon I think is Houndoom, just cause it looks like the kind who can hold a form. |
Mega-Evolutions have been confirmed. With Absol gaining an "evolution" of some sort, what other Dark-types do you think will get a "mega" change?
I definitely agree with you on Mightyena! How badass would a huge wolf be? It'd have some pretty good stats and these mega evolutions would give underrated dark-types a chance to shine. Also I kind of want a mega Sharpedo! Not because its one of my favourites (okay its partly that), but I was always curious to where the other half of its body went. Is it a really short shark or did half of its body just... disappear? It'd be cool seeing a bigger and better evolution. Would be pretty overpowered in my opinion. Krookodile doesn't really need one, its strong and huge enough! I can't imagine it getting bigger to be honest. Mega Houndoom would just be incredibly badass as well. I've got a few others on the tip of my tongue but I can't think of them right now. |
Mega-Evolutions have been confirmed. With Absol gaining an "evolution" of some sort, what other Dark-types do you think will get a "mega" change?
I also agree on those who said Mightyena needs a Mega-Evolution, I mean a wolf would be awesome indeed plus that poor thing needs more love, Absol is definitely going to be very strong while still having Glass Cannon-like stats. And I do agree with Sophie that Houndoom should get one too, I bet it would have awesome-looking flames if that was the case. |

With Absol gaining an "evolution" of some sort, what other Dark-types do you think will get a "mega" change?I definitely think Mightyena could use one cause it really does need a boost ,especially in Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense. I also agree with Google about Weavile. While it already has good enough base stats, I'd love to see how much cooler it could look with a new design. One I personally would love too is Stuntank cause that would definitely give it a well needed stat boost and make more people actually use it and appreciate it. It's a very underrated Pokemon in my opinion. Plus I imagine it would have a killer Mega design with awesome red spiky streaks in it's fur. That would be cool looking to me. |

To be honest, I've never played Gen. I or HG/SS. I've looked up her team, and I went Holy Wow!! Whoever at Game Freak decided that it was a good idea to give a Dark type Trainer a Ghost type Pokemon has another thing coming!!>:) Also, a Grass/Poison combo isn't the easiest to beat. Here I was, naive little me, thinking that the greatest Dark type Pokemon Master of all time was Sidney from Generation III, but no. Oh, no. My role model is now Karen. What is it with her team that makes it so hard to beat? Here's my analysis:
Using only my partner Pokemon, I can easily take out her Umbreon seeing as it's a solid Dark type. However, the Umbreon can also easily take out my Absol, assuming that they are both the same level, and we both use non-Dark type moves. Then we have her dreaded Vileplume. Honestly, I don't see why it's so hard to defeat. You have no disadvantage against the combination, and no advantage either. The other way around, is the same result. That Vileplume and has no advantage/disadvantage against you. Then again, we don't know it's stats, so it's Defense could be extremely high. I'll skip her Murkrow and her Houndoom since they'd both be pretty easy to beat with a Dark type Pokemon. Gangar. Why would a DARK TYPE POKEMON MASTER have a GANGAR on her team? We, as the challenger, have an elemental advantage over it, and it has no advantage over us!! Easy out. Plain and simple. On an unrelated note, does ANYBODY know what Gangar's English name is?? I CAN'T FIND IT!! I have to translate all of the Japanese names to English, and it takes forever to find it sometimes. *~Maelstrom~* |

But anyway, we're in a need of a new topic since it seems no one was interested in answering that last one. D: Hopefully this topic gets more love. Which Dark type would you say you have used the most , whether be it in your in-game party or competitive teams?I don't do competitive battling so I'll answer from an in-game perspective. I would say either Absol or Umbreon for me. I've played Emerald at least 3-5 times and Sapphire once so far and in each or almost each of those I've used an Absol in my team. It's not the best stat-wise but I just thinking it's a cool looking Pokemon and I've always formed teams around looks over stats and how good they are in battle. I might use an Absol again in X and Y cause it's new Mega-evolution gives it the boost it needed and Magic Bounce is a good ability for Absol. Umbreon I've used in almost every Gold and Cyrstal playthough and in my HeartGold and Black 2 playthrough. I just really like it as much maybe more than Absol and it's one of the best Eeveelutions. How about you guys? |

I think that Dark type Pokemon were meant to kick butt. They all just look like they're gonna murder you in your sleep, even Vullaby does! I mean, all of them have epic unique designs. EVERY. LAST. ONE. In my Black game, I had my first Dark type enter the Hall of Fame which was Kiara, a Liepard. I traded her over to my Black 2 game and I still use her. Then my other partner was my Zoroark named Meema, she's a sweeper, and she loves me. She is the Zoroark that is Black 2. Dark types rule!!! andwatertypesilikethemtoo I've definately used Murkrow and Weavile the most, though neither have them have ever entered my Hall of Fame. I used Murkrow and Weavile in Platinum, HeartGold, Black and Black 2. |
Ah the club is dying... but oh well I would definitely spam with Ice Shard to destroy Karen's Weavile. But I wouldn't get far because of the Houndoom.

Before generation IV, all Dark-type moves were special. However, the presence of powerful Dark-type moves like Crunch, Pursuit, and Thief certainly does not make Dark all that special. So: Do you think it was right to classify them as Special moves? |
No way. I really like Gen 3 and I play it a lot but that's why I don't use that many Dark Types in that gen (or gen 2). It could have been awesome if it was physical..
|
Before generation IV, all Dark-type moves were special. However, the presence of powerful Dark-type moves like Crunch, Pursuit, and Thief certainly does not make Dark all that special. So: Do you think it was right to classify them as Special moves?
I think it was a dumb thing Game Freak did, because while Dark-types look so awesome, their moves sucked back the because almost all of them were physical attackers and the moves didn't take advantage of their stats, so changing them to physical in 4th Gen was a good move and finally made Dark-types usable again. |
Dark type, i believe, was the special version of the late Ghost Types, which is a Physical before Gen IV. If you put their elemental advantages side-by-side, you can see that both are similar in ways, both super effective against Ghost and Psychic. Since we're talking about moves, Ghost offensive advantages are only against itself and Psychic with no effect against normal types, making the latter a perfect check for those moves. Dark, on the other hand, is also strong against both Ghost an Psychic with no types immune to them and Fighting being its only difference between Ghost an Dark. If Dark would've been Physical before Gen 4, it would compete with the lesser Ghost moves and Dark would soon dominate over Ghost as Dark seeks more use while Ghost is left being a weaker variant of the fore-mentioned.
|
Dark as Special? I don't think that works at all, no! Crunch, Bite, Beat Up, Thief, Fling, Sucker Punch - none of these strike me as Special moves haha. I think they were just looking for a new Special type to balance things out and it made more sense to make it Dark rather than Steel but I think it was a mistake. Thankfully the division didn't last too long but I can't imagine how something like Weavile would've coped back then - even the most basic Dark-types introduced at the time like Mightyena go against the Special classing though so who knows paha.
|
NOOOOOO!!!!
Spoiler:
At least Dark can now have a chance against Steel types, the most defensive type there is. A type for a type, right? So Fairy is basically Light-type, effective against Dark, immune to Dark. Iamstilloutragedaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! DX |
Okay new topic due to recent news!

I think Fairy being strong on Dark was something I saw coming thanks to that big Pokebeach rumor dump from months back. It confirms Sableye and Spiritomb as now having a true weakness, and also Scrafty, Hydreigon and Pangoro being 4x weak to Fairy. The changes to Steel's resistances was something I didn't expect, maybe they removed the Ghost and Dark resistance to balance out Steel like how they added Fairy to balance out Dragon. Looks like Game Freak weren't balancing just Dragons after all! As for competitive, I think the Dark-type could see more use given it's now super-effective on Metagross, Bronzong and even Honedge. The modifications to Steel's matchups could make Dark-types be used more again so I could say it made it better imo. Oh, and Aaron you need to specify Ghost and Dark, not Steel and Dark in your last post there. |
I have to admit, I hate fairy type. But fairy>Dark makes sense.
|
Dark being neutral against Steel will be a huge help as it's currently one of their biggest counters but I think being weak to Fairy will make up for it. Fairy-types (assuming they get some strong members) will be huge in the new meta to counter all the old OP Dragon-types (especially things like the new mega Garchomp) so I can see Dark-types having a hard time as a result. I'm sure they'll have some of their old classics pull through but with Pokémon like Hydreigon now having 4x weaknesses I'm not expecting much. It's a shame :(
|
Quote:
Anyway, I'm gonna answer the topic myself now. I figured Dark would be weak against Fairy mainly cause of the leaks Hikari mentioned, but also cause it makes sense. Fairy is pretty much a light and magical type that is good and Dark is the evil and mischievous type. Light is the opposite of Dark so it makes sense the Light or Fairy type is super-effective against Dark. While Dark being weak against Fairy isn't good, Dark now being neutral to Steel types balances it out more. It will definitely make Dark types better and more used in competitive play too cause no it can take down uber tanks Pokemon such as Metagross and Bronzong. And I updated the OP since Hikari mentioned my mistake. Anyone who answers the topic now should use the corrected version instead. |
It's been recently announced that the Fairy-type is super effective against Dark types while Steel loses it's resistances against Dark and Ghost. What are your thoughts on all of the recent news? How do you think it will affect the Dark type competitively? Will it improve it or make it worse?
Fairy winning against Dark makes sense. I think they're turning it into one of those fairytale situations where the enemies always lose at the end no matter what. I don't like how dark-types in this situation are portrayed as the pirates and poisoners in books but I'll get over that. Another example of how fairy is super effective against dark is that fairy represents light while dark represents the shadows. Overall it makes logical sense but I don't like how fairy is becoming an overpowered force, ripping through some of the strongest types in the game. It gives a chance for the underrated types of the game (poison I'm looking at you), to stand out but overall all their strengths are insane. At least this one makes sense. (how steel beats fairies are beyond me, maybe cages to trap them?) As for steel losing their resistance to Dark, I guess it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth? Get another weakness while receiving a strength in return. Steel-types could possibly be represented as soulless being all hollow so I don't see how dark penetrates through them. But this is the Pokemon world where logic doesn't apply to anything, so I'll think about this later. Overall I think this was implemented for the sake of balancing dark out but either way, I welcome it with open arms. Competitively this will probably take the metagame by storm. If the most overused type in the game is cowering in fear, I don't think dark will cope to well. Hydreigon will probably drop down to the lower tiers while fairies rise higher to the top. We could possibly see more usage of other underrated types like Poison and their counters but that's only a guess. As for what happens to dark-types, I think everyone will expect a fall in usage. Top dark-types that usually find themselves sitting in higher tiers might not be able to handle all the offensive and defensive pressure on them especially with Tinkerbell on the rise. It's not all bad news but I think it definitely outweighs the positive. Dark-types could be used as wallbreakers against the defensive Steel-types but there are so many better types for that. I mean sure, they can now rip through Pokemon they used to have trouble with but they're also burdened by this new tyrant type. How competitive will affect dark-types is a mystery itself though. Although I think it'll take a tumble for the worse. ]: |
It makes sense that Fairy-types are effective against Dark now, as fairies are creatures of light and smite evil. I don't get how Steel is losing resistance to Dark and Ghost though, how can ghosts and darkness effect a metal? Steel needs to be kept strong and so does Dark.

What do you think of dark-type Pokémon: Design-wise, I think dark-type Pokémon are pretty awesome! Your partners: Tyranitar and Sableye. What types rule: Dark-types. :) It's been recently announced that the Fairy-type is super effective against Dark types while Steel loses it's resistances against Dark and Ghost. What are your thoughts on all of the recent news? How do you think it will affect the Dark type competitively? Will it improve it or make it worse? In my opinion, fairy-type represents good and dark-type represents evil. Since good always win over evil at the end, it makes perfect sense to me to have fairy-type Pokémon be super-effective to dark-types. Dark Pokémon aren't used very often due to their weakness to fighting (one of the most common types in competitive battling), but this could make their usage even lower. They are neutral to steel-types now, but I honestly don't see how that would be able to help much, since there are already plenty of other Pokémon types out there that could take down steel. The only dark-type Pokémon that would be able to keep its usage relatively the same is Zoroark, since its ability enables it to disguise itself as another Pokémon and trick the opponent. Tyranitar's usage could remain the same, too, maybe, since it's one of the very few Pokémon that has access to Sand Stream. d: |
LOL What if a Fairy-type fan club is founded and then suddenly we start rivalries between which is the better type an I'll be the type who gets pissed of by all their statements and starts a fight with them. XD
Hopefully that won't happen, especially with me getting very aggressive, since my current mood is getting very gloomy towards Dark-type's eventual downfall. Maybe I'll lighten to the type as soon as I get to us a few of them. |

What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: Ever since the release in G/S/C I have been a fan of them and always tend to try and have one on my team cause of their resistance for psychic and ghost. And with certain dual-typings, makes for better resistances. Your partners: Drapion What Types rule: Dark Types Rule! Answer the current topic: The fact they are now weak to Fairy-type makes sense. And Steel losing resistance to Dark and Ghost will shake things up both Competitive and casual-playwise. Competitive because it will cause everyone to rethink their team as well as their strategy and won't have all the same 1 Pokemon who makes the entire team. Casual because simply the fact you have to switch up your team. |

Partner Pokemon: Hydreigon Type Rules: Dark, because it is mostly offensive and speed and psychic has no effect on them (except for hypnosis). Answer to current topic: It does make sense that Fairy are strong againt Dark while I can't really answer about Steel losing resistance to Dark and Ghost types... |

We're definitely in need of a new topic: With Pokemon X and Y's release date only lass than 2 weeks away, do you see anymore new Dark types being revealed anytime soon? How about a Dark-type specialist?By soon I mean before the games release date. Anything could happen I think. Though the only new Dark type Pokemon I see being revealed would be an evolution of a already announced Pokemon , not a new species all together. They seem to be only revealing evolutions at this point. We supposed to be getting new Pokemon news during the showing of Pokemon Origins set to premiere in Japan on Wednesday morning (or October 2nd) so who knows. If the leaks about Chespin's final evo being Grass/Dark are true, then we could also see them reveal that with the final starter at the last minute. Dark type specialist I doubt less but it could still be possible. We haven't even seen the region's Champion or Elite Four yet. |
Sorry it's been so long since I've spoken up here! I took a long break, besides talking to AW a bit. As for the new topic, I have no idea. I've been doing my best to avoid any spoilers, but I'm sure they will do a few small pokemon announcements. Including some dark types :3
|
Wow, considering we just opened a new topic AND XY just came out, there's a lot of inactivity here huh? Hope this club doesn't die...
But anyway, to answer our current topic, a Dark specialist would be really cool. looking at the badge names, I think we can be fairly sure it's not a gym... (Bug, Cliff, Rumble, Plant, Voltage, Fairy, Psychic, and Iceberg) but we can conclude they're running out of ideas. Haven't heard anything about the elite four yet. Well, since XY is already out, I think we need a new topic. IF YOU HAD TO CREATE AN OFFENSIVE MOVESET FOR UMBREON, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Ignoring natures, stats and EV training, what do you think would be a good in-game moveset for Umbreon. This topic came to me because I just started Soulsilver and I want an offensive umbreon. This is probably a great challenge since umbreon is mostly a wall or annoyer. Well, this should be interesting. Hope this club isn't dying! |
Inkay and its evolved form Malamar are pretty cool. Dark/Psychic combo. 4x weak to Bug but good against Ghost, Poison, Fighting, etc.
|
Uggh I'm sorry guys. :( Just so you guys know I haven't gotten X and Y yet so I don't want much spoilers on the game, but I know there wasn't much new Dark types this time around, but we do got the first Dark type starter, Greninja whose's Water/Dark!!
IF YOU HAD TO CREATE AN OFFENSIVE MOVESET FOR UMBREON, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I'm not a competitive type but I'll give it a go. Dark Pulse- One of the best Dark type moves imo. Good power, 100% accuracy , and a 20% chance of flinching the opponent. Payback - While it only does 50 damage, it's double to 100 if Umbreon is hit first. It doesn't have the best Speed so it would likely be hit first often. Psychic/Toxic - Psychic is a good counter over Ghost types besides Payback and Dark pulse of course. Toxic obviously cause it badly poisons the opponent and it's 90% accurate. Return- You need to max out it's happiness to evolve it anyway so at this point Return is probably gonna be really powerful. Just my take. *shrugs* |
Umbreon moveset? I'd say Dark Pulse, Moonlight, Assurance and Faint Attack. I can't tell you why I picked those though other than I think it fits a Dark-type like him well.
|
I've been out for some time, college immersion XD.
Answering current topic, well, a defensive/supporter moveset suit perfect to Umbreon, but my offensive moveset would be: Psychic, HP (Fire), Payback, Work Up. Just a focus on its weaknesses. Work Up raise attacks and special attacks, good to complete its already nice defenses; Psychic to cover fighting types; HP Fire to deal decent damage on bug and steel type pokes; Payback has stab and deals double when your opponent hit you in the same turn. A different way to use the umbra bunny XD |
BUMP!!
Could really need a new topic here. And to update the list of members.... ._. Anyway. Out of the new Dark types we got in Gen VI, which one is your favorite and why? |
Wow this club was meant for me. My username when translated literally means 'Thief of the night', and Dark-types have always been my favourite, so.
Username: Thief Noctis What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: You can probably take a guess considering I'm filling in this form to join a Dark-type club. Your partners: Shiny Mightyena (my first ever Shiny in Emerald) and regular Mightyena if possible. If not, then just Mightyena and Umbreon. What Types rule: Dark types ofc. |
I don't have X or Y yet, but I really, really, really like Pangoro. It looks really badass and it's based off a panda, and I love pandas. I really like what they did with the evolution, of needing a dark type in your party.
|
Sounds like my kinda club :)
Username: DarkPoke001 What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: i think Dark types are a physical representation of fear and power (which is why i like them :) ) Your partners: Umbreon and Honchkrow What Types rule: Dark types rule! Answer the current topic: it's got to be Yveltal, a giant clawed terror-inducing monster :) |

I love Inkay and Malamar. The Dark/Psychic typing is an interesting combination and its design may not look the part but I love the whole concept with these two. I've heard that Malamar seems to be making quite an impact on competitive play thanks to access to moves like Superpower (great Contrary abuse there) and Topsy-Turvy to screw set-ups. One of my fave new Pokemon this gen for sure! Oh, and welcome aboard DarkPoke001 and Thief Noctis! Glad to see your love for Dark Pokemon. |

I do like Greninja (Dark-type starter, finally <3) but it's a shame its regular form isn't switched with its Shiny form. Its Shiny would've been far more fitting for a Dark type and I love it. Thankfully I found a Shiny Frogadier in a Friend Safari the other day. :t262: |

If I have to answer the topic myself..... I'm tied between Pangoro and Yveltal honestly. YVeltal is why I'm picking Y just cause of how much cooler it looks over Xerneas in my opinion. And it's signature move sounds amazing from what I'm guessing by what Mithel said about it. When Pangoro was revealed to be Pancham's evolution, it really took me by surprised cause of how beastly it looks. Definitely the coolest of the bear Pokemon we've gotten so far. |
"Out of the new Dark types we got in Gen VI, which one is your favorite and why?"
Uff, this is a good and difficult question. I really like Pangoro, Yveltal and Greninja, I'm in love with their concept. Pangoro looks like this guy that always wanted to be a "bad guy" and it finally did it counting with a nice typology (I don't care of what can do the fairies) Yveltal is just awesome. A powerful force that subtract the other's energy ands emits a dark aura (also its ability) that everyone get depressed when it is near. Theses pokes are just cool, but my favorite is Greninja. It's the fastest of the water type pokes, can be used with a mixed set with no problem, the entire family show ninja skills from the very beginning, has a smooth design transition, and, my favorite one, has a plan design. The design take everything that a frog can offer to match the ninja concept without entering into the obvious things. Starting from the legs, body, scarf-like tongue and head's sharpness. It's just perfect <3 |

It's gotta be Greninja, definitely. It looks very ninja-like in terms of design, which was their aim. And I really like how they made its tongue wrap around its neck like a scarf—it's quite creative. Greninja may look a little similar to Toxicroak, but that's all right. Many animals look alike in real life, so why not Pokémon? Pokémon are animals, too, but with superpowers. When it comes to battling, Greninja performs extremely well. It has gargantuan Speed; it could outrun almost any Pokémon that it goes up against. It has a decent Special Attack, too. Its base Sp. Att stat is one-o-three, which isn't very bad. With that kind of strength, it could knock out anyone within only two to three turns. At the moment, I have a Greninja on my team in Pokémon Y; I absolutely love using it. Along with Greninja, I also like Yveltal. Every time I see this Pokémon, I immediately get reminded of Lugia. Its shape, size, body structure, etc. etc. all look pretty much the same as this particular Pokémon. d: I wonder if these two are related, somehow? Only difference is that Yveltal's got a different color scheme, which is black and red. Interestingly, red and black are the exact opposite of Lugia's colors—white and blue! |

We need a new topic stat! Pokemon X and Y introduced the concept of Mega Evolution . 4 of the Mega Evolutions introduced are Dark types (3 which were already Dark before and one that gains a Dark typing when Mega Evolving). These Pokemon are Mega Absol, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Houndoom. Out of these four, which of the Dark type Mega Evolution is your favorite? Which one do you think is best battle wise?My favorite Mega is definitely Mega Houndoom. It's so much cooler looking design wise than Houndoom's original form and just looks much more menacing.I love the cuff links on it. Though I kind of which it was a normal evolution instead, I can still live with this. I really can't say how well it is in battle since I haven't played either X or Y yet, but looking at it's stats on Bulbapedia it looks like it's one of the best ones. Runner up to Houndoom is Mega Absol cause I love the design of the wings and hair. Absol was already one of my favorite Pokemon/ Dark types and it's Mega evolution makes it much more powerful and makes me love Absol even more! |
Because I was gone from PC for a while, I'd like to rejoin this club if you don't mind :x
What do you think of Dark-Type Pokemon: I like the fact that they are immune to Psychic types. Immunity to a specific type is great. Your partners: Question, can I say Tyranitar(Godzilla) AND Mega Tyranitar(Mega Godzilla)? If not, then Hydreigon(Darkzilla) as my 2nd choice plz What Types rule: Dark [sarcasm]Psychic type rules[/sarcasm] Quote:
Mega Absol is fast, strong & has one of the best abilities of Magic Bounce, which is very useful when playing against heavy stall/entry hazard users. I don't mind the design, so its just another cool looking Pokemon to me. Mega Gyarados, *sigh* I would honestly say would be much cooler as a Water/Dragon type to be honest. & Mold Breaker, really? Gyarados is much cooler being regular with the Intimidate/Moxie abilities. Don't know much other than the sprite in terms of design, looks sick, but in battle it doesn't impress me. Least favorite among the four, and the worst of the four. Mega Houndoom looks like the Devil's Dog. Have to admit, looks cool. I actually ignore this Pokemon, so it doesn't grab my attention much. Mega Tyranitar! We have a WINNER! Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! I love Sandstream users, and Mega Tyranitar is definitely my #1 favorite Mega Dark type! He is SUPER bulky and powerful. What don't you like about him? His design is pretty sick also! I'd have to say he is also the bets to user battle-wise, because of his bulk and strength. Mega Absol comes in 2nd behind this bad boy right here. |
