Favorite Generation 1 Pokemon: Mew Partner Pokemon: Charlie the Mew Why it is: Mew is totally adorable and it is a powerhouse being able to know transform, metronome and learn any TM making it a master of moves. (just like Arceus is a master of types) Yay I'm pretty much the first person! Anyways, here's a topic for this club What in your opinion is the most admirable thing about Gen. 1 Pokemon?. |
Welcome, ShadowTheDarkrai!
As far as your topic, I think the answer for me would have to be that the Gen I Pokemon is where Pokemon started out. Therefore, their memorability is what appeals most to me; they're the Pokemon I've known since I was 7-8. |

Username: AlexOzzyCake Favorite Gen I Pokemon: Sandshrew Partner Pokemon: Chilli the Sandshrew <3 I like how their designs seem a lot more basic than more other generations. "Lets make a caterpillar. Let's make a bee. Let's make a mouse. Let's make a fish. Let's make a starfish. Let's make a pink blob with arms." I find that kind of design process absolutely charming and it makes me love Gen I Pokemon a lot. <3 |

Alex, I couldn't agree more. The concepts were basic, but effective. It was very clear what they were based on, their names are very reflective thereof, and Gen I is the only gen where I never looked at a Pokemon's design and thought "WTF is that thing?!" |

Welcome, ikarochase!
Starting up a topic for us: Does it seem to you that the popularity of the original 151 has dwindled down in recent times with the new gens? Why/why not? From my viewpoint, though they're still among my favorites, among the general population they have definitely become less popular, and it's a shame. What with the fact that many have received evolutions, the originals we've come to know and love have been forgotten. Also, with the younger generation of today that Pokemon is generally aimed at, they have never been fully exposed to the classics that this club is dedicated to. |

pokemon have been aiming for the younger audiences insofar. and since we are the generation of the classics, it's been hard to reintroduce them to the mainstream play, especially as their remakes are already on the now obsolete gameboy advance. also, stats also take some of the older generation to the new gens. Several newly introdueced pokemon have been given beastly stats whereas most gen 1 Pokemon have been relying only on gimmicks and strategy to stay alive in the OU tier. Out of the 45 OU pokemon, only 9 are from gen 1. Cloyster, simply because of it's shell smash + icicle spear/ rock blast combo. Dragonite, well, he is a beast actually. Same as Gengar, Gyarados and Starmie. Ninetales for his drought. tentacruel is a great Toxic Spiker. Vappy for his Baton passing abilities, and with the new Wish mechanics, he became a great cleric. And venusaur for the newly rising popularity of sunny day teams. Compared to other pokemon in the OU, these Pokemon would be rarely seen in the metagame (except for Ninetales. That fox shows up quite a lot.) They have several Pokemon to compete with like Landorus, Metagross, Mienshao, FERROTHORN. How would their popularity not dwindle. |

DualBlade, to answer your question, at least I like Lapras. imo, it's one of the best Water-types of Gen I. I would like to bring up a point about Gen I that can and I hope will lead to further discussion: When I first started playing these games when I was young, I didn't even know about stat values, base stats, STAB, or anything like that. I just used my favorite Pokemon, and I had fun with it. I feel this is another big appeal of Gen I for me. EDIT: Whoa, Taposa, you ninja'd me! I'll get you in the list. Welcome! |

Members, you may have noticed that I posted a poll. Please vote in the poll, as the results will be used by me to judge whether or not we have enough eligible participants for me to start WiFi-based events in this club.

Yes. Pokemon back then were for enjoyment ONLY. No EV, no natures, no hidden values and such. We were kids back then, but everybody grow up. Most want something more exciting. Something.. different.

I could not catch any Safari mons. They are all running away from me :( |
I thought throwing a rock then feeding it would make it more easier to catch and less likely to run. I never thought that it would cancel out.
