Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition/Pokemon Conquest

Serebii has just revealed a new Pokemon game which is set to be released next year. I must say... it certainly looks different.

Dengeki Online has revealed a brand new Pokémon game for release next year. This game Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition (ポケモン プラス ノブナガの野望 ) is due for release in Japan in Spring 2012 on Nintendo DS. Not much is known about this game yet but it appears to be an RPG game, similar to the Nobunaga Ambition games set in old Japan which are Turn-Based Strategy RPGs and labelled as a simulation. This game is a crossover between Pokémon and Nobunaga Ambition where you have to take over Japan gradually, but how Pokémon ties in, is not yet known. Details are being added as we speak. This game is set within the Ranse Region
Edit @ 03:03; More details have come in from the official site and will be added here as we translate them. At the moment, all we have are character names;
Like the main games, you can select either a male or female heroine. They both start with Eevee
Nobunaga is the main warlord who has Zekrom as his partner
Oichi is a character who helps you in the game, paired with Jigglypuff
Mitsuhude is a character teamed with Articuno
Shingen is a character teamed with Groudon
Kenshin is a character teamed with Mewtwo
More information is promised in January, indicating it'll be in CoroCoro and possibly be the game CoroCoro revealed

Screenshots!

Certainly looks different!

Here's a youtube trailer for it:

It looks a lot... different. I can't wait to play it! :3

Those Characters are from..Dynasty warriors i mean Warriors Orochi.

marcc5m December 17th, 2011 4:43 AM

Ah, what a truly tremendous game! Absolutely spiffing, I say!
Might I add how remarkably Pokémon-like the characters look?
Delectable! A game I simply cannot wait to play, hurrah!

No they aren't.

They were actual real people.

And for the record, people who want Grey: That game will not be announced until Fall 2012 at the earliest.

took the words right out of my mouth, I will no be getting this game as well. But I won't expect them to talk about a Grey or a Remake, but I was expecting a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game to be announced.

He has a right to his opinion, he can say that the game looks horrendous by looking at the screenshots and the trailer. If he feels that the screenshots and trailer look horrendous then it looks horrendous (which I agree with)

No problem. I don't see why I have to play a game to give my opinion on the screenshots + video that I've just seen but w/e.

Perriechu December 17th, 2011 7:01 AM

I can't wait for the game, it looks pretty good IMO. Although I'll have to buy a new Ds, meh.

And for those complaining about the R/S, gray etc main games are announced in April and usually get released in September. So wait until March/April for news about those games.

Palamon December 17th, 2011 7:19 AM

This game looks amazing! When it comes out I am so going to buy it! The only think I dislike so far is having to start with an Eevee...other than that I can't wait for this game to make it overseas!

Yea, you do. When I saw the screenshots of Black and White, I thought it was bad at first, but I actually played the game, and loved it anyway. Imagine how much of a douche I would have sounded...

But while there is no playable version, I will give my opinion on what we do have. And what we do have is what I don't like.

mikey December 17th, 2011 11:35 AM

This is certainly different. It looks pretty interesting. I am going to wait for more news to decide whether or not it actually will appeal to me.

That artwork is incredible though.

JP December 17th, 2011 12:36 PM

I'm not one to usually be at all interested in the spin-offs of this franchise, but this actually looks interesting. If it ever reaches outside of Japan, I'll definitely give it a shot.

Master Terrador December 17th, 2011 3:28 PM

Tactics games are not really for me but I'll be willing to give it a shot. I never was really good at them, like Disagea I sucked at horribly and Fire Emblem I rage quited before I got anywhere. So this will probably be a pathetic playthrough on my part...

The 100 Mega Shock December 17th, 2011 3:34 PM

Since when has there even been a definition of a "Pokémon game"?

The side series has been branching into other genres ever since Pokémon Pinball and Trading Card Game Gameboy. Crossing over from characters from another series doesn't make this game any less valid than Ranger or Mystery Dungeon which are similar approaches to putting Pokémon in new settings.

In all honesty, the strategy/tactics RPG is a fairly natural genre for Pokémon to be adapted to, and one that it's very well suited for.

And yeah, all media thusfar has shown nothing but the battle sequences and two pictures of a world map and menu system. We haven't been given real concrete details on the battle system or anything to do with the parts of the Nobunaga games where you command your armies and make strategic choices between managing your resources, troops and the provinces your control.

QT December 17th, 2011 3:52 PM

I decided to not get my hopes up for a BW sequel/3rd Gen remake. Instead, I just thought the announcement would be a new Mystery Dungeon game.

So after watching the trailer for this, I have to say, I'm actually quite pleased.
However, if gameplay is identical to the Mystery Dungeon games I will feel cheated, but even if that is the case let's hope this game can win me over with it's storyline.

The 100 Mega Shock December 17th, 2011 4:04 PM

In Mystery Dungeon, every Pokémon performs a single action (moving, attacking, etc) simultaneously for each "turn". There's an emphasis on you, the main character, and a partner fighting against greater numbers of weak Pokémon while you traverse deeper into the dungeons

Battles in this game appear to be based around the style similar to Final Fantasy Tactics or more traditional turn-based-strategy games, where each character can move and perform an action (attacking, using items or skills) when their turn comes around. Combat emphasises large groups of Pokémon battling each other, rather than the main character vs the world.

While they seem similar at first glance, the two types of games become radically different when you get into them. The biggest difference is probably that Mystery Dungeon is about you and how you go into the dungeons and beat up everyone inside yourself. Nobunaga's Ambition is about you and how you command (control) your forces to win battles and take over territory.

Keiran December 17th, 2011 4:43 PM

Well, I was hoping for a Pokemon RPG, but I'm not sure this is relevant to my interests. Even though I LOVED Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem- which both have GBA versions released yeeeears ago that have similar/better graphics than this. >___>

You would prefer a Black and White re-release over something innovative and new for the franchise? Really what is so special about Grey? Am I missing something here? And of course it doesn't look like a traditional Pokemon game. It's a crossover for heaven's sake.

I think this looks great. I always wondered how a Pokemon Strategy RPG would turn out.

Houndoomed December 17th, 2011 5:05 PM

Add to Cart! I can't wait to get stuck into that, looks and reminds me of my old super mario rpg on the super ness, samurai's+Pokemon= win.

Still would love Hoenn remakes/Third Gen 5 game, will have to wait till April.

Hikamaru December 17th, 2011 7:59 PM

I first heard about this game through Bulbanews.

I'm more of a main series player so spin-offs don't impress me.

Fingers crossed the next game announcement is Grey or R/S remakes.

Neptune Vasilias December 17th, 2011 10:29 PM

The characters' costumes look like gijinkas to me. And the game is quite similar to the Rangers franchise. I was initially hoping for a 3rd Gen PMD with BW Pokemon, but this looks very fun too. The battle system is something I've never played in before. Looks so fun, I'm gonna tell all my Pokefan friends~ ^^

-ty- December 17th, 2011 11:31 PM

This spin-off game beats the mystery dungeon, pokepark, rumble blast and ranger games. I am really excited to get this game!

Yeah I would.
I don't like this.
DON'T
And I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to my opinion. I'm not a big fan of spin-offs and I'm not a big fan of crossovers and I'm not a big fan of characters in a Pokémon game that look like they should be in idk Naruto or something.
Therefore I'm not a big fan of this. Not even a medium fan.

Palladium December 18th, 2011 4:27 AM

Tbh I'm not a big fan of crossovers too, but you're not being open minded here, well each one with their own opinions ...

Late December 18th, 2011 7:46 AM

This looks like a game for me. I love SRPGs like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics and Shining Force and I've actually thought about making this kinda Pokémon board game as a kid. I think I even started making it but never finished it. Don't know why they decided to make it for DS as there's 3DS now but it doesn't really matter.

No one's saying you're not entitled to your own opinion. And yeah, I kind of got a feeling that you DON'T like this from your previous post. .-.

What I find odd is that you're already assuming this game is "crappy" when we have hardly any details on it when it comes to gameplay. Then you claim it doesn't look like a Pokemon game, which baffles me to no end. I'm not saying you should like it, I couldn't care less, but I don't know why you're so quick to hate a game we know so little about.

Regardless, I appreciate this news and if the gameplay is solid I'll support the The Pokemon Company for their great decision.

Yamikarasu December 18th, 2011 3:00 PM

I really don't see any reason to hate this game at all. Finally, a Pokemon game is being created that doesn't seem to be marketed straight at 10-year-olds. This game is using a format (SRPG) that we already know is fun--if you've played Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics you know what I mean. And even if spin-offs or SRPGs aren't your thing, it isn't like Pokemon is abandoning the main series games so there is no need to be angry. Gray or a 6th gen game is obviously coming eventually. I'm only disappointed that this game is coming out on the DS and not the 3DS. Nintendo needs a good Pokemon game to help out the 3DS system, so I'm not sure what they were thinking there.

Fireworks, you are being really immature and overly vocal about your opinion, that's why people are calling you out on it. Your posts are like a person going into a restaurant and freaking out at the manager when they only serve Pepsi instead of Coke.

Houndoomed December 18th, 2011 4:25 PM

Im not generally a fan of spins offs, but in my opinion, nothing that pokemon company has ever attached its name to has been crappy so I think fireworks comments are a bit hasty considering the small snippet we were given.

I'm kinda glad to see appearing on the regular ds, as I don't own a 3ds. Let's hope they do the same to this thing like they did with the first mystery dungeon games!

Ciax December 18th, 2011 5:46 PM

I would have rathered this be grey or the R/S/E remakes but this look pretty promising. It reminds me of the Final Fantasy Tactics games. I loved them.

Wondering if it's DS or 3DS, it looked like DS but not sure. Maybe both. Also I'm hoping this is released outside of Japan.

And guys lay off Fireworks, he's allowed his own opinion on the game and if he dosen't like it and it's a good game it's his loss. Don't turn this thread in a big flame war about opinions and stuff.

How does it look like a PMD when there's nothing about Pokemon transforming into humans and fighting in dungeons? The best comparison is probably Pokemon Rangers, in this case.

While I agree that you're entitled to your own opinion, however brashly you'd like to state it (you probably wouldn't be getting so much backlash if you had chosen to express your discontent in a more civil manner), you're wrong about gijinkas. These are existing characters.

I think people who say that didn't actually read about the game and just watched the trailer. I was so confused as to why people kept comparing it to PMD until I saw the trailer and if they hadn't read before that it's a strategy game they could mistake it for that.

moonlightning December 19th, 2011 1:10 AM

Taking over Japan?

Code Geass.

SRRPG Style Combat with Humans and Pokemon?

Devil Survivor

Code Geass + Devil Survivor + Pokemon?

Can't wait.

The 100 Mega Shock December 19th, 2011 5:25 AM

That's a very...strange connection to make.

People have been fighting their fellow man for control over their country for thousands of years. Comparing a game based around the period of civil war in 16th century Japan to a show about Japanese people fighting an invading superpower is kind of off by a couple of hundred years of world history.

Well, the trailer still show humans in there. A PMD game would be the last I would think of a point of comparison.

Everything about Pokemon is out-there, which is what attract players. Yes you may say that the characters look ugly because beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But saying that they look strange, weird or unusual is rather contradicting because Pokemon was always "strange" from the start.

I take it you have a hatred for gijinkas? Oh and the aims of the main games are basically to be the region's Champion, which is rather similar to "taking over a country"(since being the Champion equates to being the strongest ultimate Trainer in the region thus people would obey you).

17 castles = 17 types?

thedestinedblade December 19th, 2011 11:54 AM

While I would have definitely preferred a new shadow game, this idea doesn't seem too bad. Having the Shining Force/FE in-battle cutscenes would have made it 10x cooler though.

Saying that, this doesn't seem like a game that would make it outside of Japan even if it does have pokemon in it's title.

Impo December 21st, 2011 11:17 PM

I hope it does get localized, I kind of like it.

It's nice to see Pokemon out of dungeons and gym battles once in a while... though the gameplay did seem incredibly similar to PMD, still

pixiefroggy December 22nd, 2011 7:58 PM

This is exactly the kind of game Ive been looking forward to! ^_^ The main games always follow the same plot of defeating the bad guys and beating the regional
league(s). I'm glad they're making a spin-off.

If you don't like it, why do you keep coming back and posting, it's simple enough to not like the game and say so, who cares if some people hate your opinion, it's not worth the effort to come back and post it over and over In annoying ways like this.

Imo, I like the look of this game, I'm going to get it, just like I get all the pokémon games good or bad ones.

I'll admit I was hoping for a R/S or mystery dungeon annoucement, but I won't be nagging or moaning like other people i've seen on such things like youtube. -3-

Markichuuuuu December 23rd, 2011 12:15 PM

I hope we get this in America. I think I'd honestly rather have this over "Grey" version, since the third game in a set of Pokémon games is usually the same game with extra features. At least this way we get a brand new experience!

Spades Slick December 24th, 2011 9:56 AM

I'd love to see it in English, either officially or like they did on Mother 3

miltankRancher December 25th, 2011 6:36 AM

This is one of the games I am most excited of, including Pt and HGSS. This really looks different and radical, straying of the path from the PMD series and ranger series. I love samurais.

DowntownDumpling December 28th, 2011 7:09 AM

Looks pretty cool, kind of like a tactical RPG like the Mystery Dungeon games. I'd get it.

Kotowari December 28th, 2011 7:22 AM

I don't know the Nobunaga's Ambition games, though I know the original setting of the game. (I watched the anime of Sengoku Basara, it's the same period, only crazier). But I heard people make connections with Fire Emblem, combine that with Pokémon, great character design, hints of a great story and you got me looking forward to more details on this game.
I hope it gets localised in Europe. I would love to try it out. : >

Mentalii December 28th, 2011 10:48 AM

I'm perplexed. Honestly, that game doesn't appeal to me at all.
But, as a very big fan, I think I'll buy it if it's released in Europa, and I hope it will be great. Because I expected a really cool game, when they had announced that there would be a new game. I mean, a game that would ravish fans, like Pokémon Grey, or a remake, so this Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition totally disappoint me. I didn't even know, Nobunaga's Ambition...
But maybe I'm wrong to be disappointed, and that will be a super game ! I hope I'm wrong.
But for the moment, I'm perplexed.

shininglatios217 January 6th, 2012 10:58 PM

I also hoped to see Gray/Ranger 4/XD 2/Hoenn remakes, but seeing that it plays similar to Final Fantasy Tactics (the only strategy game I like) I'm hoping that this gets translated. Well, that and a Pokémon fighting game.

HaloSonic January 8th, 2012 1:55 PM

Interesting. will keep an eye out for it.

Most colourful!

D. Lawride January 11th, 2012 9:31 AM

And it has online features! This should be worthwhile! :3

The screenshot they have on there with the sort of search screen also looks awesome! wonder if those are just avatars or if we'll actually be allowed to create custom 'trainers'?

Interesting... I'd still like to see more screenshots/videos to judge my opinion on the game.

Impo January 11th, 2012 8:22 PM

I'm actually excited for the game, to be honest.

I like the box art, but I wonder if it will be released in English?

Xander Olivieri January 11th, 2012 10:45 PM

CoroCoro was leaked and had like three pages on Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition. Showing a few new characters, battle mechanics (still 6 on 6 with the samurai person being the trainer). All the traditional stuff is still there. Don't see how to "catch" Pokemon but You can befriend other "Trainers" to go into battle with you.

And Japanese Release Date was confirmed March 17th. SO Hope it comes out in America.

blue January 12th, 2012 7:45 AM

I'd download the ROM or watch walkthroughs before purchasing the game, I still don't know how good/bad it is going to be really.

Black Bolt January 12th, 2012 2:22 PM

well
it took nintendo about 17 years to make their first pokemon strategy game
i never knew about this samurai thingy or anything until now

i do hope it comes out in america as most games like fire emblem come late in america
it could be released around fall 2012 like most japan games that release in spring

ChaosJester083 January 15th, 2012 6:39 PM

I must say that I would love the to play this seeing how it is something new and different. I'm kinda hoping for more spin off games that are creative like this one

Raveness January 16th, 2012 2:14 PM

awesome

That looks awesome !!! Is it in English?

Here's the trailer with subtitles.

17 castles = 17 types?

17 castles is probably literally 17 castles here because of the whole taking over Japan part.

New info from an ongoing conference. Courtesy of pokejungle.

Quote:

-There have been plans and discussions for a Pokémon x Nobunaga collab for over 3 years.
-Many gimmicks allow you to create shortcuts (a new one being Ivy for some grass Pokémon)
-Some Pokémon can leave holes at pivotal parts of the map as traps for the enemy.
-During battles, General/character events take place depending on how well you do.
-In the original Nobunaga games there are over 40 famous generals. A concern from a fan was brought up as to whether all would be available to play, to which the representative from KOEI responded that he intends to give more information as time goes on, but for the time being he assures that fans of the Nobunaga series won’t be disappointed with the number of Generals.
-A limited edition Black Rayquaza dragon card will be given with the game (In Japan)
-Limited edition figures (Nobunaga with Zekrom or Mitsuhide with Articuno) will be given to those who pre-order (In Japan)
-A question was asked about the roles of Zekrom and Reshiram. Confirming Reshiram’s presence in the game seemed to be strategically avoided by the producer.
-The game was designed to encompass a wide range of fans from young to old.

New trailer is out today.

miltankRancher January 19th, 2012 3:09 AM

awesome! the pokemon can evolve! and I am loving the looks of the "leaders" lol.

LucarioGuild7 January 20th, 2012 9:05 PM

Oh my gosh when they first released the new game i almost fangasmed, I love the Samurai Warrior games and ive done quite a bit of research on the characters and yes most of them were actual people. Another thing i agree with The Mega Shock stop ripping off each others heads.
Samurai Warriors+Pokemon+Fire Emblem gameplay mechanics= HELL YEAH

Axiom January 21st, 2012 12:36 AM

Samurai and Pokemon? In the same game?
Does not compute. Error.

Tombo January 21st, 2012 1:50 PM

I still don't understand how the 'battles' are going to work but the trailer looks interesting.

Like its been siad some where in the thread and also it looks as though its true that it will be kind of like Fire Emblem gameplay mechanics if that helps you at all

AnjinMiura_PL January 22nd, 2012 10:34 AM

Actually I'm like hey, hey, this looks awesome :D I cannot wait to get Darkness Badge from Oda Nobunaga in Owari Gym or to stuff like that. Great idea ;)

fail i dont want that to happen

Lancelot-sama! February 4th, 2012 11:27 AM

I can't tell you how excited I am for this! At first, I'll admit I was confused, but now I jut hope that this game will com over to the US. I love the idea, and of course who wouldn't love a pokemon game with a feudal japan setting?! The character designs I have to agree are much more appealing (to me, anyway) than the usual pokemon designs as not everyone looks as thin as a stick and there's more diversity in facial features. We can just ignore the people who don't agree with the idea and let them think their own opinions, but I just can't wait for this game. It's a shame most people don't understand what Samurai Warriors/Nobunaga's Ambition is so they tend to turn it down. Oh well, can't do much about that.

new Image Scan from Coro Coro.

I see some Evolution progresses so apparently we can still Evolve Pokemon which is awesome~

And this is from Serebii on the scans:
Quote:

The next images of CoroCoro have also been released through Japanese forums, dealing with the upcoming game; Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition. This scan doesn't reveal much due to clarity at this time, but does showcase the evolution of Pokémon within this game as well as showing that the appearance of the various leaders changes with experience. It also shows the various new Bashou Leaders promised within this issue.
First, Mitsunari Ishida is teamed with the Pokémon Pawniard
Kiyomasa Kato is teamed with the Pokémon Fraxure
Masanori Fukushima is teamed with the Pokémon Krokorok
Newly revealed leader Yoshibiro is teamed with Gurdurr
Newly revealed leader Kaneshiga is teamed with Gardevoir
We'll bring more as it comes

miltankRancher February 14th, 2012 5:04 AM

I'm really loving this game, so far as spoilers are concerned. Does that CoroCoro scan image includes a card in the lower left corner?

Oooh this looks so awesome! I really hope this comes out in English (and in Australia because we never get anything). Although they'll probably give the characters crappy English-sounding names to make it more 'accessible':cer_pissed:.

No not necesairly its beig made in partnership with the people who make the samurai warrior games and they give every region and character their original name not counting Kunoichi who is just the generic term for female ninja, representing Yukimura's 10 Ninjas

phonastik February 24th, 2012 1:52 AM

Huh. Well, OK, I hope that's the case.

Also, it looks like the game might be localised, at least in Europe: Bulbanews

Mentalii February 24th, 2012 6:42 AM

This game hasn't the "Pokémon spirit", I'm more and more disappointed...
The mix between samurai and Pokémon isn't a good idea. The Pokémon World can't be mixed with anything...

The Author February 24th, 2012 8:44 AM

This crossover just seems wrong.
Like, what if Mewtwo was a boss in Zelda?

cappayne March 6th, 2012 1:58 AM

I don't love it. I'd much rather a 3D CONSOLE improvement on the main series games, Pokemon Snap 2, or (although the execs have spoken against it) an MMO.

miltankRancher March 6th, 2012 11:23 PM

I love this pair! They seem so smug and burly and strong!

pumpkinpie5 March 7th, 2012 12:44 PM

What the BEEP is narunaga (or whatever it is) I have bad feelings about the game and will not be getting it. It looks too much like pokemon ranger.

miltankRancher March 13th, 2012 3:23 AM

no! Why are there only a few people who can see how awesome this game is? I have to disagree with pumpkinpie with him saying that this feels much like ranger. Judging from the released pictures, this feels more like Rumble Blast rather than Ranger, and I am perfectly sure Ranger is boring compared to this.

thepsynergist March 17th, 2012 4:03 AM

The games been really fun so far. I've been ripping the instruments to get a soundfont for myself.

miltankRancher March 18th, 2012 5:59 AM

I am reading the updates by Serebii (can't afford to buy one yet) Ranse region is shaped like an Arceus?! Mind=blown.

Also, I am looking forward to the roles of the other boshou leaders. Like the one with the Crobat and Metagross. Epic.

That's Shimazu Yoshihiro and his partner Pokemon Gurdurr.

miltankRancher March 19th, 2012 2:00 AM

I actually know that, Hikari.

Anyone of you guys wonder why the BUSHOU ARE ABLE TO EVOLVE? Is it like a personality development or what?

bobandbill March 19th, 2012 4:35 PM

Haha, I played a bit on the computer and was surprised at the whole evolving thing. I guess it could be maybe compared to say class upgrades in the like of Fire Emblem - maybe abilities/stats of them are changed or something? And/or character based too.

It's not a bad game, certainly. Neat music, gameplay is alright and I've heard the main game is more like a glorified tutorial because there's a heck of a lot of content afterwards. Worth a try...if you don't mind working out by yourself how it works. If it wasn't a full priced game in english I'd certainly look at getting it. And now I feel like LPing it, heh.

And then Gurdurr grins and you move a bit away from the screen, haha.

miltankRancher March 19th, 2012 7:15 PM

After the story? I have not got the chance to play this game yt, but you mean, this is actually a Pokemon game whose post-game content is way more better?

English Version, please come out nawww!

bobandbill March 20th, 2012 2:53 AM

Apparently so! Basically you have a heck of a lot of content afterwards - episodes for every character, some that apparently take a long time. Pity about the fact it might not get translated as there is a fair bit of talking though, but we shall see.

Lucariland March 20th, 2012 8:47 AM

I't looks cool! looking forward to it gets released in europe! :D

Dave The Man March 22nd, 2012 4:38 AM

So it's a Pokemon RPG? or is it going to be something Different and I don't how they would catch Pokemon

Corvus of the Black Night March 22nd, 2012 3:35 PM

Something occurred to me... why the hell is Mewtwo in an ancient Japanese setting? Isn't it a science experiment? Sorry for sounding stupid if there's a reason but it just sounds ridiculous, even if it is a throwback in the future or something like that.

Sydian March 22nd, 2012 7:12 PM

^ I was wondering that myself. Hopefully that's explained in the game somewhere.

Anyway, this is actually looking to be an interesting game, and I think I'd actually invest in a copy if it gets localized. Looks like what people feared didn't really happen, that being that it wouldn't be focused on Pokemon and more on the Nobunaga's Ambition part. But yeah. Very different from the norm and I hope we end up seeing it.

well since mewtwo being a boss would be badass you should also imagine this crossover is so right

well an mmo would be awsome but i like that they are open about trying new gameplay styles and this cross over looks very fun

um that doesnt make sense how does a board startegy game look like a game where you capture pokemon using a stylus circling them not to say that ranger is bad it is also very good
