I don't have spring break until mid-march haha.

Palamon February 21st, 2012 10:08 AM

Well, as for me...in March I have no days off at all. I have a full month of school next week. ): Hope I survive... I usually do, but this is high school...

Oryx February 21st, 2012 10:13 AM

I think the death rate for "death by too much school" is generally pretty low so you'll probably survive.

Sweet Candace February 21st, 2012 10:57 AM

Depending on when Easter falls, either March or April, we never had a day off. (If Easter fell in March, there would be no days off in April, and if Easter fell in April, there'd be no days off in March.)

Livewire February 21st, 2012 12:23 PM

I think Easter's in early April this year, IIRC. So, spring break may actually be kind of warm for once, yesssss

alisaie February 21st, 2012 12:40 PM

Florida decided that it was going to have a bit of a "cold" spell. "Cold" as in it's not actually cold outside, but it's actually really nice and it's not humid and it's simply lovely weather. I'm going to cry when it leaves.

marcc5m February 21st, 2012 12:43 PM

What's a President Day? :\

Hope everyone enjoyed Pancake Day. I didn't because I have no pancakes. :(

Oryx February 21st, 2012 12:51 PM

My school has waffles for every meal. Like it's the only round-the-clock breakfast food, they never take the waffle irons away.

Esper February 21st, 2012 1:03 PM

Easter's on April 8th. I dunno why Easter means time off from school though since Easter's always on a Sunday.

Oryx February 21st, 2012 1:13 PM

Because it's more than Easter, it's also Good Friday/Holy Thursday, at least I think those are the names haha. My school gets off like Thursday, Friday, Monday, and sometimes the Wednesday before.

Arma February 21st, 2012 1:22 PM

I thought it was called White Thursday? At least that's what we call it here.

Anyway, Konginnedag gets my vote for the weirdest holiday.XD

Ivysaur February 21st, 2012 1:48 PM

We call Ester "Holy Week" and we geet a full week and a day off. That's some hyperreligious heritage I'm not angry about (at least now, because, back in the 70's, cinemas and theatres were closed down for all the week, and only religious shows could be broadcasted on radio and TV... that must have been so painful).

Charizard★ February 21st, 2012 5:00 PM

Myself, being an American, I'm still confused on some Christian or Catholic holidays we have since I don't really celebrate them. Although, as far as I care, as long as I get days off, I'm cool. :B

Here in Ontario (maybe some other places?), we had Family Day yesterday.

Basically a day to... think of something to do in the winter. I don't skate. I don't ski. I don't want to go to an overcrowded museum full of parents trying to think of something to do for the kids on this random day off.

It's a new holiday that came about maybe four years ago as a vote-getting measure. I'd have preferred a day off in the summer.

Over here in Alberta is like this too. Most happy go lucky families are loaded with a bunch of snowboard/ski gear on their car. I feel like a loner, since I'm driving to work on Family Day, LOL.

Netto Azure February 21st, 2012 10:23 PM

I don't think I've observed no Meat on Good Friday for years now.

I'm soooo bad. :B

My family does it. It's one of my favourite days of the year XD I don't think we observe the no meat part of it for religious reasons, even if the tradition is rooted in it. But, we just really enjoy the all-out fish feast festival that we make of it. Christmas Eve. too. Favourite family foods days lol

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ February 21st, 2012 11:53 PM

Wait, you're not supposed to eat meat on Good Friday? Wow, I was totally unaware of that.

Good Friday has now officially moved into the "weird holidays" category.

Though we never get off school for it, Halloween remains my favorite holiday. For otaku-related reasons :P

Shining Raichu February 22nd, 2012 4:33 AM

I like to make a point of eating meat on Good Friday just to rebel against the system :P

FIGHT THE POWER!

I suppose my favourite holiday is also Halloween just cause it's all dark and stuff. I've never really done anything that extravagant for it though.

Oryx February 22nd, 2012 4:40 AM

My dining hall isn't going to serve meat for the rest of Lent. No idea how sad I am. :(

Ivysaur February 22nd, 2012 4:53 AM

Actually, you can eat meat that day as long as you pay money to your local Church to get a special permission. Not that it ever crossed my mind XD

Although Protestantism was created just to fight that, the absurd corruption in the Catholic Church. It's as strong as ever around here.

Karma Police February 22nd, 2012 5:38 AM

lmao, for Hindus we're not supposed to eat meat on ANY Tuesday. At all. And probably some other days but I never follow that.

But I eat it anyways. lol.

Other than that in my country we get DOZENS of holidays for festivals, probably cause my country is secular and we have to respect all religions, so yeah, in almost all schools we get holidays for all kinds of festivals.

Esper February 22nd, 2012 9:42 AM

My friend's family is Catholic and on Good Friday they always had fish. As if fish wasn't meat.

Reminds me of this.

Oryx February 22nd, 2012 9:59 AM

Fish is allowed but I forget why haha.

Actually I looked it up and the actual rule is "no meat from warm-blooded animals", so, there you go. XD
