Lugia is my favourite legend of all time, I like it's shiny but I reckon shiny lugia should be shadow lugia from XD

Look at the epicness between this:

Shadow Lugia ftw!

@ikaros: not close. LOL.

on topic:

i have many faves among this gen honestly. but I like Cyndaquil and Smeargle the best!

curiousnathan January 24th, 2012 1:48 AM

From what I've seen form the picture.. definitely Yanma, Shuckle and Marill, mainly due ot the fact that they stand out amogst the rest of the Gen II Pokemon. :> I prefer the normal colours tbh; but I wouldn't mind finding a shiny in my HG. ;)

ikaroschase January 24th, 2012 1:59 AM

my top three would have to be these :D

and what do they have in common? they're pink! \(OuO)/
i don't personally like the colour pink but i think they look great in it :DDD

oh and i just realised azumarill is kind of golden \(O-O)/
http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/184.png

@mR come on give us a clue ><

miltankRancher January 24th, 2012 2:21 AM

I realized my previous post is kind of rushed. here is it.

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/155.png I like cyndaquil's shiny better than the original color. It still retained the cuteness, but gained more power in terms of appearance.

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/175.png and http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/176.png I love shiny's where you cannot almost distinguish the original colors!

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/184.png golden ftw!

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/192.png same as togepi/tic. :)

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/197.png FREAKING COOL.

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/205.png http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/208.png real Au for the win! (chemnerdiness)

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/235.png manly pink. this is what I am talking about.

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/243.pnghttp://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/244.pnghttp://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/245.png i love their shiny sprites for no apparent reason.

Jayster23 January 24th, 2012 4:05 AM

Yeah mR pretty much said all my favourites although i do like Shiny Larvitar as it's goldenish

miltankRancher January 24th, 2012 4:22 AM

this computer critter has also a good shiny sprite. :0

totodile, shuckle and furret.

they simply suit the colour so darn well. so yeah. GO TOTODILE!

miltankRancher January 24th, 2012 5:30 AM

IMO, furret does not quite fit pink very much. unlike smeargle.

http://www.serebii.net/Shiny/BW/235.png

Avishka January 24th, 2012 5:30 AM

Out of the three, (Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil), which starter pokemon would you choose and why?
Cyndaquil bcuz i always choose fire type and it is the cutest one. it is capable of defending itself by using the fire on its back. The fire grows more powerful as the Cyndaquil becomes more angry or defensive.

What pokemon do you dislike the most (excluding legendaries) from Generation II, and why?
Unown bcuz it can only learn one move ie Hidden Power.

most of the members have chosen Unown, also. Maybe because it is too simple, and low stats. Also, the access to just a single move hampers its ability to actually deal damage.

anything that cannot OHKO Unown (which is few and far between) are the only things Unown can actually do damage to.

Mr. Mammoth January 24th, 2012 6:11 AM

Which is my favourite 2nd gen shiny? Easy, Umbreon.
Why?
Well, when there are shinies that you would label as "cool!" or "awesome!" but I would call Umbreon's shiny form, beautiful. Umbreon is a Pokémon that represents the moon, something we connect with the night, something we connect with sleep. I feel at peace when I sleep, it feels so wonderful to dream for me... Blue, is a very soothing and calming color, the same color as water, which basically is the same thing as rain. Now, I've always been sleepy whenever I hear rain, and thus, it calms me. Makes me kick back a little more than I usually do. So a blue moon, makes me calm and relaxed, and makes me feel more safe than I already am.

@mr. mammoth yeah shiny umbreon's kind of soothing ((((((:

Jayster23 January 24th, 2012 7:58 AM

The blue on the umbreon gives it a more glowy moon effect. Kind of like the night sky filled with stars just brighter.

miltankRancher January 24th, 2012 11:59 AM

Umbreons shiny form is my favorite among Eeveelutions. So simple and yet so elegant. Not too drastic unlike the forms of other Pokemon, where they changed everything and the pokemon still look like something taken out from a one-year old's coloring book.

Jayster23 January 24th, 2012 8:30 PM

It does give it an elegant and mystic feel. I know especially Vapereon, looks shocking. The purple is so bright.

miltankRancher January 25th, 2012 12:02 AM

Like crobat! Shockingly pink, and it remove all the nastiness.

curiousnathan January 25th, 2012 12:04 AM

I like the shiny sprites if they're not in contrast with the original colours or too little of a difference to notice its shiny like Blissey etc.

curiousnathan January 26th, 2012 6:24 PM

Oh those shirts are great, Gengar is a pretty awesomesauce pokemon. I do't mind wobuffet, although it needs to learn more offensive type moves. :<

I agree. But, wobuffet works perfectly fine in that niche, and he does his work very well. I have no other points to bring out.

gunnerpow7 January 27th, 2012 1:52 AM

It's a whole new world we live in huh? I want to sign up also!!!

Name: gunnerpow7
What you would like others to call you: Gunner
Partner Pokémon: Bellossom!!!!!
Favourite Gen II Pokémon: Bellossom, Meganium
Reason For Joining: My favorite pokemon is in this generation and I love Gen II!

Mr. Mammoth January 27th, 2012 3:20 AM

@ikaros: Hey thanks! I'll try that out! *bows to our almighty club-starterer*

@mR: Thanks dude! I hope to bring you all more art in the future!

SS for me please! I just liked Silver the best of the 2nd gen games, I honestly don't know why... Probably because I had Gold for such a long time before I got Silver or I dunno...

Wobuffet T-shirt = WANT. NOW. Hey Wobffet isn't in the Uber-tier without a reason!

Also, welcome Gunner!

miltankRancher January 27th, 2012 3:45 AM

welcome gunner! :)

mammoth, yeah! Wobuffet is such an awesome Pokemon that it manages to annoy trainers ever since, without ever dealing direct damage.

ikaroschase January 27th, 2012 5:02 AM

welcome gunner :DDD i hope you enjoy yourself here \(OuO)/
while i was at serebii looking for bellossom's mini sprite i came across its shiny sprite (:

isn't it gorgeous? :D or maybe it's only me

i've never really used wobuffet :/ is it good?
*whispers in a corner* i'm just some useless bum who doesn't have a clue when it comes to competitive battling.

miltankRancher January 27th, 2012 5:20 AM

http://www.pokestadium.com/pokemon/sprites/handheld/blackwhite/animated/202.gif

Wobuffet is also adorable! :)

During the Fourth Gen, Wobuffet experienced its prime, securing a spot among the Ubers (with several legendaries.) However, it tiered-down to Borderline this gen, because primarily of the Encore change. It affected a lot of Wobuffet sets really.

Quote:

At first glance, Wobbuffet seems to be horrible: its movepool is literally 8 moves, and all its stats but HP are horrendous. However, Wobbuffet has the ability Shadow Tag, which turns it into a serious threat. Wobbuffet's movepool also complements its ability perfectly, consisting of moves such as Encore, Mirror Coat, and Counter, allowing Wobbuffet to almost always guarantee a KO or a free setup for a teammate. Wobbuffet's stats are actually a bit of a blessing, as its enormous HP and bad defenses make Counter and Mirror Coat hit for tons of damage. Wobbuffet even gets Tickle to round out its Shadow Tag-abusing movepool.

Sadly, Wobbuffet has to contend with problems both new and old in the 5th generation. It still lacks any form of recovery, which is unfortunate because it's hit by every entry hazard and all forms of damaging weather. Wobbuffet is also severely crippled by Taunt, becoming helpless while the opponent sets up. Perhaps the most debilitating problem is the nerf Encore received in this generation, only lasting 3 turns instead of 4-8 turns, making the already low PP of Encore even more of a problem. The general power of attacks has also increased dramatically, cutting short the number of times Wobbuffet can switch in and knock out the opponent. Despite these flaws, Wobbuffet remains a dangerous threat that every team should watch out for.

Mr. Mammoth January 27th, 2012 6:08 AM

Wobbu be stretchin'! xD

But really, look at that! It really looks like he is stretching!

Avishka January 27th, 2012 6:09 AM

Which do you like better? HeartGold or Soulsilver?
HeartGold bcuz it have some awesome pokemons like Arcanine and Kyogre in it.

So yeah, the topic!

Which do you like better? HeartGold or Soulsilver?

I honestly didn't try any of those games because I don't have a DS.... T_T So it is a draw for me, I guess...

miltankRancher January 27th, 2012 4:38 PM

Given the chance, gunner, what would you choose? Here are the version exclusives for you to base on. :)

THIS ONE.

gunnerpow7 January 27th, 2012 5:16 PM

Maybe HeartGold... It's pokemon are cooler than SoulSilver... =/

miltankRancher January 27th, 2012 5:59 PM

Yes! Sucks about the absence of skarmory, and Groudon.

ikaroschase January 27th, 2012 7:58 PM

on topic, i actually bought soul silver because of lugia :D
before it came to my country i researched a lot on serebii.
frankly speaking, i wanted to buy heart gold at first because of version exclusives
but i wanted lugia earlier \(OuO)/
hah :3

miltankRancher January 27th, 2012 8:03 PM

I do actually have both. Version-exclusive aside, I will still choose Heartgold because Soulsilver is pretty notorious for being glitchy.

anyway, I have made another userbar! Featuring the eight awesome leaders.

http://i.imgur.com/rNBFs.gif

and on the topic of my nickname: it jo_.

Mr. Mammoth January 28th, 2012 4:02 AM

@mR: What? SoulSilver is glitchy? I've never encountered any glitches that I can remember in SS...

But I do own both versions, I always buy both versions of a new Pokémon-game. If there are two versions that is.

Userbar = Baws. End of story.

Hmmm... Is it Josh?

miltankRancher January 28th, 2012 4:14 AM

good for you! my soulsilver is full of glitches. Even the rom's I download. For example when a battle will start, the game will "freeze" with the pokeballs still rolling. LOL.

thanks my friend!

and no. not josh. three letters nickname. 6 letters full.

Mr. Mammoth January 28th, 2012 5:53 AM

Pokéballs, defying physics since 1996.

Three letters nickname? ..... Grrrrgh, I got nothing...

miltankRancher January 28th, 2012 6:19 AM

We have been featured on the review! Apparently, what we need is a good topic, that will drive much discussion on this group. So, this is a new topic!

Second generation games (GSC) introduced a lot of new mechanics: Breeding, Shiny Factor, Pokerus, New Types (Dark and Steel) and Apricorns. Which of these is your favorite addition so far? Discuss. :) No one liners please.

Hmm, this one is a bit hard, as I was pretty oblivious to most of the new additions to the various games and I was just plain ignorant to most of those I knew about. Actually, looking at what I thought and knew about back then, the one I like the best would have to be breeding, though it's no fair competition for the others at all.
Back then I was totally oblivious to the shinies, which I'm not ashamed to reveal, as the chance of meeting them is really low, but the fact that I didn't even know about the two additions in typings is kinda embarrassing. Back then my view on the Pokémon were based on their colours, so everything that was green were Grass types, everything that was red were Fire types and so on, and as the new typings weren't in the original games, I just threw them into other categories. The apricorns I knew about, though they were of no particular interest, as I didn't really cared about the Pokéballs at all and therefore ignored them throughout most of my playthroughs. I still don't know what in the world Pokérus is and what it even does, so I'll probably need to look into that.
So with all that information it's easy to conclude, that breeding was the one addition I liked the best. It was one of the few new mechanics that I actually knew about and the only one I obligingly took use of. The fact that you could actually get more of a Pokémon without catching it was a great addition to the games. Hell, you could even get more of the starter Pokémon without repeatingly having to start over and trade the Pokémon over to a friend or second game, to get it traded back later.

Even though that the only reason it was my favourite addition back then, was because it was the only one I both knew about and liked, it's still my favourite one for reasons I explained above. The new typings and the shiny Pokémon has gotten a much higher priority now that I know about them, though I still don't like them as much as breeding. The apricorns have only gotten a bit higher priority, since I now know the importance of the type of Pokéball I use, though I still don't particularly care about them. And as stated before, I still don't know what Pokérus is >_<

miltankRancher January 28th, 2012 7:53 PM

Pokerus

Pokerus actually is a status ailment that benefits a Pokemon, especially when EV training. But since there is a very low chance of gaining one after a battle, its existence where unknown to much of the Pokemon gaming community.

Arpicorns meanwhile were flavor additions. The concept of roaming Pokemon, weight, the addition of day and time, rods and such screams the needs for "specialized Pokeballs" such that catching the said Pokemons may be easy. Yes, an Ultra Ball has a good chance of capturing Pokemon, but with this balls, I think there is a higher rate of capture.

The two types were a welcome addition to the game, especially Dark Types which finally limited Psychic's power. Back in Gen 1, Psychic types were unmatched seeing as Bug is their only weakness and the only real Bug type attack was Twineedle. Therefore, the addition of Dark types and their attacks in Gen 2 was a real welcome to the community, bringing the status of Psychic down.

Like the apricorns, shiny Pokemon were also flavor additions, meaning they don't affect the game so much. In fact, you could finish the whole game without running into a single Shiny Pokemon, excluding red Gyarados. The stats of a shiny Pokemon were no higher than their normal counterparts. They just look good. And, for bragging rights.

However, breeding is the best addition among all others. You could practically catch a single Pokemon, (and a mate) then breed it. You could mass-produce lots of the said species (excluding unbreedable Pokemon and Legendaries). This is good especially when you are hunting for a certain Pokemon with a certain Personality Value (or nature in later generations). also, you could have an offspring with a desired move it would not normally know.

I therefore conclude that breeding for me is the best addition to generation II.

gunnerpow7 January 29th, 2012 12:36 AM

For me, I think breeding is the best addition to Gen II as instead of capturing, you can raise and hatch eggs...

Mr. Mammoth January 29th, 2012 2:00 PM

Sign me up for breeding thank you! I just like the fact that you can pass on the genes of your Pokémon to create a new Pokémon. I always loved breeding when I was younger and I still do. I used to give the Pokémon names based off their parents, like putting a Jr behind or just make an anagram. And not to mention the Egg-moves. I thought that was like the coolest freaking thing ever! Make your Pokémon get cool moves they shouldn't learn through level-ups? Hell yeah! Like giving an Ekans Disable, or a Ponyta with Hypnosis. I just love breeding, it's one of my favourite things to do ingame!

This is one of the best byproducts of breeding. The ability to pass on moves, not normally learned is a great way to expand one pokemon's movepool.

I like to breed obscure moves onto Pokémon, like Hydro Pump on a Bagon for example!

Hydro Pump? I have far better ideas than you. LOL. Look at this. Look at Tyranitar. He is too awesome on his own right? WRONG. Through breeding, he has access to Stealth Rock (and with his sandstorm, makes him a viable lead), Curse (his Speed isn't that great anyway, so it is to no bother to lose some of it, in expense of higher attack) Dragon Dance (now, we are talking of beastly), Outrage (goodbye you Salamences and Hydreigons!) and Pursuit (good bye, cowards!)

Mr. Mammoth February 1st, 2012 2:09 PM

Oh?! You wanna talk competitive battling? Pssh, an Unaware Bibarel and Tyranitar is goddam TOAST! xD

Or I could just say Escavalier! What you gonna do about that? Huh? HUH?!

But let's not get off-topic here. OR? *nudge nudge, wink wink*

How about we discuss how to run a 2nd Generation party with Tyranitar as a lead with Sandstorm, and the other 5 (Generation 2 only Pokemon) being Sandstorm supporters or however you call it (Sandstorm team lol)

I'd say Skarmory & Scizor are a must, so there are half a team right there already. Who else?

Jayster23 February 1st, 2012 9:02 PM

Steelix can support Sandstorm, Maybe Golem? I dunno if Gliscor was in Gen II Gligar would be useful

Well Golem was Generation 1

Tyranitar
Skarmory
Scizor
Gligar
Corsola vs Quagsire
Steelix vs Donphan

How's it looking?

Dudy you need to have something in your post.

I'd go for Quagsire and Steelix Sector Revenge, but if Steelix is too much of a pain with just one metal coat go for Donphan.

Dudypokefan89 February 2nd, 2012 12:04 AM

I'm not a no0b at Pokemon, but I don't really see why someone would make a support team around Tyranitar with sandstorm, unless i just don't understand.

I think I will be going with Quagsire on the Corsola vs Quagsire matter. Are we talking of present gen competitive mechanics or gen II mechanics?

Quiagsire is a far more better and promising Pokemon than Corsola, IMO.

Welcome Lu! Hope you have an awesome time here!

Now on the matter of competitive battling. I'd EASILY go with Quagsire, I mean it has a certain bulk where Corsola is kinda brittle and it gets STAB Earthquake which is about the most powerful attacking move in the game. It's also good for Rain Dancers as it gets the water-boost. Granted, Corsola gets this too but I just think that Quagsire is more promising.

Mm we could go both ways

I was speaking more of Current Generation using a Generation 2 only party with Tyanitar leading a Sandstorm party, just for fun discussion.

miltankRancher February 2nd, 2012 5:08 PM

Then I am with Quagsire all the way. NU Wall, pretty bulky, and the 85 base Attack isn't a slouch either. Good status spreader. plus access to Recover and Earthquake makes him a threat on the lower tiers.

deoxys121 February 2nd, 2012 5:24 PM

Sorry for not being active. I'd have to say that my favorite new aspect of the Generation II games was held items and berries. Held items gave Pokemon new potential, and made certain weaker Pokemon more formidable. This system has expanded in newer games, but it is traced back to these games, as basic as it may have been.

Welcome to the club!!

Her Miltank did annoy me a bit but I managed to defeat her even without a Fighting-type.

That inspired me to train my own Miltank, the one I used in SoulSilver had an Impish nature I think. I managed to beat Lance with that Miltank, using Attract, Stomp and Strength.

I also have one in Black (Poke Transferred) with a Rash nature.

miltankRancher February 2nd, 2012 11:24 PM

All pokemon trainers have been annoyed by that special Miltank, one point or another. You could not truly call yourself Pokemon Trainer if you have not experienced the sheer power of Whitney's Miltank.

Which follows to my decision: ikaros, I will be adding my second partner (and thereby my last free). He (yes, a male Miltank) is a Miltank named Macardian. :)

Miltank are girls and always will be.

Whitney is the most complained Gym Leader because of that Miltank.

Jayster23 February 2nd, 2012 11:31 PM

That miltank is the worse is HG/SS.
G/S/C is absolutely no problem with it because the AI isn't as much of a pain.

Yeah you gotta love hold items, EXP.Share saved so much grinding it isn't funny.

I know. And that's not a good thing for me. LOLs.

One of the most complained. Claire also gave several trainers a good challenge because of her Kingdra. But very rarely do we hear someone complaining of it because it is expected for the eight gym leader to be hard.

Chuck can be a challenge because of the Poliwrath. depending on your team at the time.

Chuck is not too difficult if you have a Xatu cos Fighting is weak to both of Xatu's types (Psychic and Flying).

miltankRancher February 3rd, 2012 3:01 AM

that's why he said "depending on your team at that time."

well, no gym leader is hard when you are prepared. EXCEPT WHITNEY AND HER MILTANK.

Yes, it is pretty unexpected for a Pokemon rarely seen as Miltank.

I love Umbreon too, he is right behind in 4th place on the list. But aint nowhere NEAR as beautiful and awesome as Espeon! (Oh..her name's 'Summer') ;)

anyway, I love Ash's Bayleef's personality. Like how she consider Pikachu as her rival for Ash's attention. :)

anyway pics.

Jayster23 February 4th, 2012 9:31 PM

definitely keep the evolution system. It's fun :)

Bayleef i actually don't mind, Chikorita and Meganium i'm not that keen on

Mentalii February 5th, 2012 11:14 AM

Thank you all
I've changed my Eevee partner to Espeon, actually I hadn't understood I could choose an evolution as long as my partner's pre-evolution is from the 1st gen...
Sector Revenge => Yes Espeon is just wonderful ! Umbreon too but... Espeon has something better ! Something mythical ! And the moves I'd teach her would be Substitute, Calm Mind, Psyko and Hidden Power (Fighting-type).

So, about Bayleef... I'm not really crazy about this Pokémon, Chikorita is my less favourite starter from gen II. It's cute, but that's all.
Here is a picture :
