Sorry for inactivity! My explanation: SCHOOLWORK.

Anyway, hello new members! Hope you have a splendid time here!

Bayleef is a cool Pokémon, I used it in my secondmost recent playthrough of Crystal. And it rocked pretty good!

@Sector Revenge and Mentalii: HOW DARE YOU PUT UMBREON UNDER ESPEON!!!!1!1!11!!1!!!!

No JK xD. But in all seriousness that wasn't even funny...

...

I should go back to my cave now...

miltankRancher February 6th, 2012 12:56 AM

I liked Bayleef the most among the three (Chikorita, Bayleef, Meganium). It looked pretty good, unlike those two epic dinosaurs. :)

Umbreon is the better of the two for me. Epic wall, whereas Espeon will be overlooked and overshadowed by all of the Psychic types if not for Magic Bounce.

Olli February 7th, 2012 9:11 AM

Out of Bayleef's evolutionary line, Bayleef was the one I disliked the most. It wasn't its performance in battle I disliked, as I never actually chose it, however I didn't like its design at all. I don't like how the few leaves it has makes it seem so naked, where as with Chikorita it seems more natural, and with Meganium it isn't as evident. I did really like Meganium's design though, it just appealed very much to me, especially with those colourful flowers n_n

Haha I've always loved/used Espeon since the introduction to 2nd Generation. I grew onto Umbreon throughout the years and started using him with Leafeon in Generation 4. So Umbreon is now easily my 5th favorite on the list. xD Not trying to make him look bad, but he's a beast to take so many hits too!

miltankRancher February 7th, 2012 11:37 PM

Umbreon is my favorite among the the eeveelutions. :)

Bayleef is not naked! How dare you!

Sorry for being inactive lately, my excuse is school as well ( ̄ー ̄)
But omigod i love bayleaf, as well as chikorita and meganium! Thanks ikaros, again lol

Jayster23 February 10th, 2012 12:41 AM

Out of the lot Bayleef is the best looking, Meganium and Chikorita seem to girly for me, not saying that it's a bad thing but it's kind or like a more female based Pokemon and the chances of getting a male is rather high. Best thing about Chikorita line is that it learns Razor Leaf nice and early.

Which is not that good considering you face off with flying-type leader.

Jayster23 February 10th, 2012 5:08 AM

On the rare occasion i start with Chikorita i just tackle Falkner to death :P

I mean compared to Bulbasaur and such, It doesn't learn Razor leaf til later one and your stuck with poopy Vine Whip for how ever long.

gunnerpow7 February 10th, 2012 5:08 AM

For me, I love the Chikorita line... They were my first pokemon when I played Pokemon Crystal in an emulator....

What else does chikorita really have against Fawkner? Can't exactly razor leaf a pidgeotto.

Welcome Hydro Pumper :)

curiousnathan February 11th, 2012 3:50 AM

I'd train other pokemon or trade a local bellsprout for the onix from the boy in one of the houses, to battle against Fawkner. Rocky proved to be a powerhouse, especially now as my level 57 steelix. <3

Jayster23 February 11th, 2012 3:56 AM

I could never be bothered to train rocky up. I knew i would barely use it so i didn't bother much. I always have the second evolution by Fawkner and 3rd evolution by Whitney

curiousnathan February 11th, 2012 4:01 AM

See, Rocky was also pretty useful for Whitney too, her miltank was no match. ;p

Jayster23 February 11th, 2012 8:13 PM

I got rocky several times but never trained it. I really couldn't be bothered looking for Bellsprout in G/S

Againts Gastly's low level Pidgey's and Rattatas and Sentrets on Route 29 that will never give you enough experience to warrant a level up.

I always trade Bellsprout for Rocky, but I never use it to battle Falkner. :)

Jayster23 February 12th, 2012 2:28 AM

To battle Fawkner recently I've been training up a Geodude because well i got nothing better, but i usually start with Cyndaquil so i barely use Geodude anyway.
I'm more of a starter person, i always rely on them and they never leave my party unless i have to get rid of them for a challenge or whatever

miltankRancher February 13th, 2012 1:53 AM

Me too. I could won the whole HGSS with Typhlosion + HM slave only.

curiousnathan February 13th, 2012 9:39 PM

I used to be a starter pokemon, I'd always try an dtrade with my sister and her friends to obtain the three starters for my team in other Pokemon Games. I'd usually then have the three starters, a strong flying type (most of the time the local one: pidgey, starly) and electric type or dragon type and a ground type.

Jayster23 February 13th, 2012 11:51 PM

You know how people do the monotype challenge and solo challenge and everything. I've been doing them since i was like 6 without meaning to with just my starter :P

It's only been recently i've started making actual teams infact it started with HG/SS hahah

Same...

Not really a big fan of holding Pokemon who has 4x Weaknesses.

Plus, Shiny Gyarados is a nice Pokemon to have boxed up anyway.

Poor guy...never to see sunlight again.

miltankRancher February 19th, 2012 12:57 AM

Yes. Gyrados in the second gen was a meh! pokemon. It is supposed to be good, but cannot due to lack of moves. And shiny one is no excemption.

If Red Gyarados was suppose to be special of some sort, yes they should had given it some...'special' moves that a regular Gyarados cannot learn.

miltankRancher February 21st, 2012 3:58 AM

yes! Red Gyarados looks too much special (and its role ain't little either) to not be a special pokemon. They could at least gave it proper moves. Sadly, I think the only reason why they include it is to tell the world that shiny pokemon exists. Like:

"Hey! look at this gyarados! It's color is different! We albino pokemon exists! Come catch us!"

Mentalii February 22nd, 2012 3:40 AM

What did you do to the Red Gyarados?

Well it depends... I use to box it, mainly because I always choose the water starter so, useless to own a second water-type. Or in my Gold Version, where I had exceptionally chosen the cute Cyndaquil, I kept it, to have a "pretty strong" water Pokémon. After all, we can't deny that Gyarados, shiny or not, is a tough Pokémon, despite its weaknesses.
And miltankRancher you're right, the reason of the red Gyarados' presence is to show people that shiny Pokémon exist. Because they're so rare, developers prefered include a shiny that everybody could find to prove that they are real.

Olli February 22nd, 2012 12:21 PM

Well, what I did to the Gyarados shifted from playthrough to playthrough. Sometimes I'd catch it and succeed, other times I'd fail, or I'd see no need having it on my team, so I'd just defeat it for the exp. I kind of saw the Red Gyarados as a semi-legendary, because back with G/S/C I didn't know about shinies and Gyarados was a pretty decent Pokémon, so I'd often save before it and try to catch it, even if I weren't gonna use it. I'd always go and do the events in Mahogany town after Ecruteak for no apparent reason and I often had to go out and heal in the hideout because my Pokémon were underleveled.

Though all-in-all, I usually caught the Gyarados and either used it if I didn't have a Water type, or stuffed it in the PC box.

Jayster23 February 23rd, 2012 1:52 AM

I use the Red Gyarados as my HM slave with Surf, strength, whirlpool and waterfall

So, I think it's appropriate to get a new topic now, so here goes.

'Which Gen II Pokémon do you think has the most uncreative design?'

I guess I'd have to say Remoraid, due to how plain its design is. Comparing it to its animal counterpart, there isn't much difference at all, no additional, interesting features to make it more than a simple fish. I don't get why it evolves into an octapus either. It may have been the same with Magikarp, though that was the first generation and they shouldn't really be expected to go on a creativity outburst due to it being the first time. Another example of simpleness in the design could be Ursaring. Not much to distinguish it from a real life bear.

Pineco. A pine cone with eyes. Wow, best Pokémon ever.
Fortunately, its evolution is way better.

miltankRancher February 26th, 2012 6:08 AM

Ursaring is pretty good for me. I like his design. Simple yet really realistic.

I however, agree with Remoraid. I mean, that does not even look like a Pokemon. He looks like something I can catch with my real life rod! Octillery is way no better.

Also, another Pokemon that comes to mind is Qwilfish. I mean, he's just a puffer fish for Arceus' sake.

Partner Pokémon: Houndour
Favourite Gen II Pokémon: Too many to pick from ;; I guess Politoad? I usually get a shiny one and raise along side a shiny Ninetailes.
Reason For Joining: Pokemon Silver was the game that made me fall in love with Pokemon. I played Pokemon Blue but I was too young to understand what was happening and to really enjoy it.

Topics and such~

- Which do you like better? HeartGold or Soulsilver?
I prefer Soul Silver simply because of the version exclusives. My favourite pokemon is Ninetales so it's not really a surprise that I'm going to side with the version that has that pokemon. Also I liked the Lugia cut scene a lot more than the Ho-Oh one. The use of the cave system and the waterfall was amazing.

- What did you do to the Red Gyrados?
In my original playthrough of Pokemon Silver I kept it as part of my team and used it as a HM slave. Bare in mind that I wasn't aware of shinies and I just thought that it was some special pokemon. On all my other playthroughs of silver though I trained it as a part of my team because Gyrados is amazing but I could never be bothered to catch and train a magikarp.
In my Soul Silver run though I just boxed it. I'd already planned out a team before hand so I didn't need it.

I cannot believe I have forgotten about the unowns. I agree with you. Heiroglyphs are supposed to be interesting symbols, but 26 Greek Letters? They could do better with alternate forms.

- Which Gen II Pokémon do you think has the most uncreative design?

I think that most people confuse uncreative with simplistic sometimes :( Stuff like the unown are actually a really interesting idea, just because they are simple doesn't mean that they are uncreative :3
Ones that I do think are uncreative are the baby pokemon. It seams lazy to shrink down a few pokemon and say that they are baby ones, especially when some didn't need baby pokemon to begin with like Pichu or Igglybuff.

Two of these additions really stick out in my mind: the additions to the elemental table and--one that was half-mentioned--Apricorns and berries. At first, due to the unmatched number of younger players that to this day threatens to annihilate the future of the series has single-handedly overrun the fan base, the new types seemed simply a gimmick added to bring in new feel, complexity, and enthusiasts to the franchise. It wasn't until later that I really grew to appreciate what the developers did when adding these two types: balancing the present and future metagames. (I won't elaborate further since this is fairly self-explanatory, but imo, this was one of the most influential additions to the series.)

Now Apricorns and berries gave birth to unique concepts that still hold true (although in slightly varied forms) in the generations to this day. These new item types went hand-in-hand with the idea of held items which still holds noticeable influence on the games, especially in the field of competitive battling; new beta-like pokéballs were introduced to invoke strategic capturing instead of the mindless chucking of the highest-valued ball that had developed with the previous generation; and may I digress, Kurt was just so swag [sic] in those games. =3

I know that simple is not equal to uncreative. I like the concept of Unown, but I guess with the design they could do much better. And I really don't get the point of having 26 forms. :\ they could do with a single Alphabet pokemon and such.

I am actually fond of Elekid and Pichu. I mean, look at them. They look cute, but strong!

I'd have to say Whitney is unique, a very childish gym leader indeed, has a little tantrum when she loses. Chuck has unique ways of training *coughmeditatingunderawaterfallcough* Jasmine is a very caring person who cares about Amphy a lot. Your rival is good because of the way he acts and another interesting personality would be the hyuk-hyuk-hyuk guy from team rocket. Interesting indeed.

I would probably have to say the rival. Not much of his personality was actually shown, nor any background or anything about him. He is the most mysterious rival of all that has been introduced up till now. With the few encounters you had with him through the games, you got to know that he was a bit of a loner, he wasn't much for approaching people, but he didn't want people to get in his way either. The only reason he constantly kept coming after you, was because he repeadetly lost to you, and wanted to prove that he could beat you. He didn't treat his Pokémon very well, as the man in the Sprout Tower had mentioned, and a thing which could also be traced off of his personality. He also despised Team Rocket like no one else, which was honestly kinda weird, 'cause he seemed like a person that would've been in Team Rocket. Though it was made kinda evident in FR/LG that he was the son of Giovanni, so it might have been daddy issues? Either way, he differs a lot from most other 'important' characters in the games.

miltankRancher March 7th, 2012 11:33 PM

I agree with the rival. Typical anti-hero antagonist who wants nothing in the world except to beat you, and yet his character is as colorful as any other. his mysteriousness and wants were not the usual of a video game character. He stand on his own platform. Definitely my favorite rival of all.

Mentalii March 9th, 2012 2:09 AM

I hesitate between the rival and Eusine... To tell the truth I think that Silver has lost some charisma in HGSS, while in these games Eusine was more interesting than in Crystal. Both characters are mysterious.
The rival, being the son of Giovanni, has something else than any other ones. And, his personnality really make of him someone unique.

Treecko March 9th, 2012 2:44 AM

The most interesting to me would be the rival. His personality and mysteriousness way much different than any of the other rivals. He actually seems more like an enemy while the others are just a friend/friends of yours. The fact that he's the son of Giovanni makes him even better.
Eusine, is another interesting character. His pursuits to find Suicune are intriguing and he got a lot more developed in HGSS so I learned more about his character. I'm also glad the Kimono Girls interact with you more in HGSS. They became more developed characters and I find their personalities interesting too.

miltankRancher March 10th, 2012 5:15 PM

Eusine is a pretty good character. He's the epitome of obsession, but that is the the thing that made his character really good. In a way, I see Eusine as some kind of rival, but on a friendly competition.
